Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 60
Chapter 60
"Enough." Jing Rui wasn't bothered by Pei You bringing up her mother; she knew her mother well.
"Have you ever considered being serious? Even if you treated relationships with a third of the seriousness you give to work, it would be an improvement."
Undeniably, Jing Rui was a captivating woman: beautiful, elegant, with a great figure, charming, romantic, and incredibly capable… but she was also notoriously fickle in love.
Capturing such a woman's heart, making her love only you, was like taming a wild horse, a challenging yet alluring prospect.
That was why Pei You couldn't let go of Jing Rui, not even minding her promiscuity. If someone had never truly loved, how could they understand devotion? She thought that if Jing Rui gave her a chance, she could change.
Pei You's reasoning was sound, she just didn't know that a Chi Jia had already appeared in Jing Rui's life.
"We're not young anymore, we should settle down. Think about it seriously, is there anyone more suitable for you than me?" Pei You was confident, believing she was a perfect match for Jing Rui in every aspect, having known each other since childhood, her feelings for Jing Rui genuine.
From a practical standpoint, they were indeed a good match, but matters of the heart were personal, compatibility didn't guarantee a spark.
Jing Rui hated it when people interfered in her life, but considering Pei You's relationship with her mother, she didn't want to be too harsh.
"Suitable doesn't equal liking." Jing Rui's expression remained calm and indifferent. "I'm in a stable relationship right now."
"Stable?" Pei You chuckled, finding Jing Rui's claim ridiculous. "How long has this one lasted? I bet it hasn't even been a month."
"I don't need to report my love life to you, do I?" Jing Rui sneered, her tone dismissive. There was no point in continuing this unpleasant conversation. She stood up. "I have another appointment, excuse me."
Pei You watched Jing Rui's elegant, almost perfect figure as she walked away, her grip tightening on her wine glass as she downed the remaining wine, still unable to let go.
Jing Rui could be affectionate with other women, so why couldn't she be with her?
The heart wanted what it couldn't have.
Chi Jia hung up the phone with Jing Rui and was about to go downstairs for a bite to eat when she ran into Qin Dong. Working on the same floor, such encounters were common.
They exchanged polite smiles and continued on their way.
"Are you… together with her?" Qin Dong stopped, unable to resist asking Chi Jia, his voice low and almost casual, as if making small talk.
"Yes."
"But she's a woman, are you serious…?" Qin Dong avoided Chi Jia's gaze, their conversation in the corridor awkward.
"I know." Chi Jia's voice was calm, but the turmoil she had gone through to reach this point was hidden beneath the surface.
"I don't mean anything by it, I'm just worried about you, I don't want to see you get hurt."
The chances of liking someone who didn't like you back were high, yet people still persisted, hoping for a happy ending, but in most cases, time would eventually heal the wounds.
Finding the right person wasn't easy.
Chi Jia didn't offer any further explanations, just smiled and said, "Thank you."
After work, Chi Jia went to N Bar, a rare occurrence lately.
Jing Rui had been busy recently, and Chi Jia hadn't seen her for several days. For a couple in love, relying on phone calls and video chats wasn't enough.
It was even more difficult for Chi Jia, looking at the beautiful vixen on the screen, unable to touch or kiss her, the longing almost unbearable.
But they had a silent understanding; whenever they met in person, sparks would fly.
But Miss Chi was stubborn; no matter how much she missed Jing Rui, she wouldn't act cute and coquettish on the phone, asking Jing Rui to make time for her. She knew Jing Rui was genuinely busy, and despite her occasional whims, she never made unreasonable demands.
Singing love songs when you were in love made them sound even more beautiful, each word imbued with deeper meaning. After their passionate nights together, Jing Rui always liked to have Chi Jia sing for her.
Thinking of these little details, Chi Jia couldn't help but smile. She was smiling more often now than before, perhaps Jing Rui was making up for all the past heartache with double the sweetness now.
At the bar, Chi Jia ran into Jing Wei, whom she hadn't seen in a while. He was drinking alone, and he had had quite a bit.
"Want to join me for a drink?"
"You're alone?" Jing Wei was also her client, and Chi Jia greeted him with a friendly smile. She didn't know about the argument between Jing Rui and Jing Wei because of her.
Chi Jia's charm was undeniable, her delicate features and sweet demeanor easily capturing men's hearts.
Both Jing Rui and Chi Jia were beautiful women. If Jing Rui's beauty was cold and aloof, Chi Jia's was gentle and approachable.
Looking at Chi Jia now, Jing Wei still felt a pang of regret; she was his ideal type, and yet, his sister had beaten him to it.
"I heard you and my sister are back together?" He had heard it from Jing Rui.
Chi Jia held her glass, wondering why everyone was so interested in her relationship with Jing Rui lately. Although the word "again" wasn't quite accurate, Chi Jia didn't bother explaining and simply confirmed it.
After a few more sips of wine, Jing Wei still couldn't help himself, feeling like such a lovely girl shouldn't be wasted on his sister. He offered Chi Jia some well-intentioned advice. "It's fine to play around with her, but don't take it seriously."
Chi Jia stopped, her hand frozen on her glass.
"I'm telling you this as a friend. I know her, there have been countless girls who fell head over heels for her."
Chi Jia didn't know what to say. When she decided to accept Jing Rui, she had been prepared, to start over, but Jing Wei's words still stung.
"I shouldn't have said that, I'll drink to that." Seeing Chi Jia's reaction, Jing Wei, slightly drunk, downed his drink.
After a few more awkward exchanges, Chi Jia excused herself and left the bar.
The streets were bustling with activity.
Chi Jia walked aimlessly, swinging her bag, then realized she was walking in the opposite direction of her apartment, and turned back with a sigh.
She's a woman, you two are not suited for each other.
She's just playing around, don't take it seriously.
Two "heartbreakers" in love, it did seem like a game. Who would believe they were truly serious? No one would think she and Jing Rui would last…
But so what?
Others couldn't understand what they felt for each other.
Even if the whole world was against them, Chi Jia still wanted to be with Jing Rui; perhaps only they could understand their love.
Chi Jia had always been fickle in love, never truly valuing relationships, but she knew her feelings for Jing Rui were different, a feeling of finally finding something precious, something she didn't want to let go of.
She had a feeling Jing Rui felt the same way, so she didn't care about Jing Rui's past, she had her own past too, all that mattered was their present and future.
Chi Jia hoped her intuition was right. She was willing to give Jing Rui all her love, and she hoped Jing Rui would do the same.
Back at her apartment, Chi Jia took a shower and lay in bed, her mind in turmoil, missing Jing Rui, wanting the vixen to be with her.
She liked being with Jing Rui, not just for the physical intimacy, but for the emotional connection, the comfort, understanding, and support they shared.
Chi Jia picked up her phone and finally called Jing Rui.
At that moment, Jing Rui had just parked her car in front of Chi Jia's apartment building, about to call her, when she saw Chi Jia's name on the screen.
Whenever she felt down, she longed for Chi Jia's comfort, and it was the same for Chi Jia; they were becoming increasingly inseparable.
"It's rare for you to call me~" As soon as she answered Miss Chi's call, all her worries and frustrations vanished.
Chi Jia, hearing Jing Rui's voice, couldn't help but whine softly, "I miss you so much."
Jing Rui's heart melted, wanting to see Chi Jia immediately. She looked at the apartment building in the distance. "I'll come over tonight, okay?"
"Okay." Chi Jia was overjoyed, and what made her even happier was that three minutes later, her doorbell rang, and she received a message from Jing Rui: "I'm here."
Opening the door, it was indeed Jing Rui.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" Chi Jia quickly pulled Jing Rui inside and closed the door.
"Didn't I just tell you?"
Chi Jia was speechless.
Jing Rui had just changed her shoes and put down her bag when she pulled Chi Jia into an embrace.
As if she knew exactly what she needed. Chi Jia smiled, hugging Jing Rui back, and they stood there, embraced, for a long moment, silent.
"What's wrong? Tell me." Jing Rui asked, gently stroking Chi Jia's hair.
"Wrong?"
"Would you have called me like that if nothing was wrong?" Jing Rui sensed Chi Jia's unusual vulnerability.
"How do you have time to come over tonight?" Chi Jia slyly changed the subject.
"Tell me again." Jing Rui didn't let her get away with it.
"What?"
Jing Rui looked at Chi Jia, wanting to hear her say it face to face. "Say you miss me."
Chi Jia looked at Jing Rui for a few seconds, a smile playing on her lips, and tightened her embrace, their bodies pressed close.
Lowering her head, she nuzzled Jing Rui's cheek, no longer hiding her feelings. "I miss you."
"Me too." As Jing Rui kissed Chi Jia, all her worries and frustrations vanished. She held Chi Jia's lips, gently pushing her against the wall, their bodies supporting each other as the kiss deepened.
"Mmm…" Chi Jia's hands moved to the back of Jing Rui's head, her slender fingers tangling in her hair, just like their tongues, intertwined.
"I'm so tired today, I just want to hold you and sleep." Jing Rui murmured, her head resting on Chi Jia's shoulder, her voice filled with exhaustion.
Seeing Jing Rui's vulnerability, no longer hiding behind her usual aloof smile, made Chi Jia feel a sense of contentment and security.
As they looked at each other, they couldn't resist kissing again, a soft, lingering kiss that threatened to escalate.
Chi Jia's breathing was unsteady, and hearing Jing Rui say she was tired, she had been holding back. "Then let's take a shower and go to bed."
But Jing Rui lifted Chi Jia's chin, a smile playing on her lips. "I want you to help me shower."
So much for being pure. Chi Jia pretended to be coy. "If I help you shower, won't you be even more tired?"
