Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 62

Chapter 62

Chi Jia, drowsy and snuggling in Jing Rui's arms, suddenly lifted her head, hearing Jing Rui's words. "Meet your mother?!"

They had only been officially dating for less than a month, still in the honeymoon phase, and Chi Jia hadn't even considered meeting the parents yet.

Meeting the parents meant facing reality.

Jing Rui had anticipated Chi Jia's reaction. It was indeed a bit sudden, but considering her mother's intention to set her up with Pei You, it was better to introduce Chi Jia to her mother sooner rather than later, to clear things up.

Chi Jia was still in shock.

"It's not like our relationship is a secret." Jing Rui caressed Chi Jia's face, teasing her. This was the first time she had wanted to introduce a partner to her family. Looking at Chi Jia's flushed cheeks, she couldn't help but kiss her softly. "It's just meeting my mother, having dinner with her. Don't worry, she won't object."

Even so, Chi Jia still hesitated. "I…"

Jing Rui wanting her to meet her mother should be reassuring, a sign that she was serious about their relationship.

"Not ready?"

"Mmm…"

"I told you, with me here, you don't have to be afraid of anything." Jing Rui thought for a moment, then decided not to pressure Chi Jia, understanding her concerns.

Chi Jia was silent, her mind racing with the thought of coming out, a heavy weight settling on her heart.

Chi Jia's silence made Jing Rui uneasy. She cupped Chi Jia's face in her hands, making her look at her, her gaze lingering. "Promise me something."

"What?"

"Don't run away." Jing Rui pulled Chi Jia closer, suddenly feeling an overwhelming need to keep her close. She looked into Chi Jia's eyes. "Stay with me, don't leave me, don't just disappear one day."

"Can you promise me that?" Jing Rui desperately needed a reassurance.

Jing Rui, when serious, could be incredibly reassuring, especially when she told Chi Jia "with me here, you don't have to be afraid of anything."

"I promise." Chi Jia smiled, giving Jing Rui the answer she wanted. Life was hers, and having finally found the love she wanted, why would she let it go?

She couldn't bear to.

Late at night.

Jing Rui held Chi Jia in her arms, whispering softly in the dim light, "I know what you're worried about, don't pressure yourself, I'll be with you, I'll protect you. I hope you can always be as happy as you are tonight when we're together..."

"Mmm." Chi Jia leaned against Jing Rui's shoulder, her heart filled with affection. The vixen, usually so frivolous, could be incredibly sweet and sentimental when she was serious, almost bringing tears to Chi Jia's eyes.

"You're always telling me that, what about you?" Chi Jia sat up in bed and looked at Jing Rui. "If you dare to cheat on me, I'll…"

Chi Jia didn't know what to say; she didn't know what she would do.

"What will you do if I cheat on you?" Jing Rui asked playfully.

Chi Jia, feigning anger, grabbed a pillow and started hitting Jing Rui. "You're still thinking about other women?!"

"Chi Jia, I think you're the one with violent tendencies. Where do you even get the energy…?" Jing Rui's voice was weak; they had just been… exercising. She took Chi Jia's hand. "Stop it, we won't be able to get up for work tomorrow if you keep this up."

Chi Jia threw the pillow aside, her lips pouting, still thinking about the cheating issue, clearly unhappy.

Jing Rui also sat up, smiling tiredly, then leaned in and kissed Chi Jia, a forceful kiss more effective than any words.

"Mmm…"

Within seconds, Chi Jia calmed down under Jing Rui's kiss.

Whenever they had a small disagreement, the vixen would use this tactic, sometimes even resorting to "physical compensation," which Chi Jia couldn't resist…

Because in the face of beauty, pride and self-respect were easily forgotten.

Jing Rui deepened the kiss, then gently pushed Chi Jia down onto the bed, their bodies intertwined, their lips still locked in a passionate embrace.

"Always using this trick… Mmm…" Chi Jia murmured against Jing Rui's lips, her hands exploring Jing Rui's body.

"As long as it works."

Chi Jia hummed softly, her body melting under Jing Rui's touch. Of course it worked.

While other people's goodnight kisses were light and fleeting, Chi Jia's kisses were always deep and lingering, and Jing Rui also seemed to enjoy kissing her.

"I'm tired, let's go to sleep." Jing Rui held Chi Jia close, closing her eyes with a smile.

Chi Jia licked her lips, a contented sigh, gazing at Jing Rui, thinking they were truly a perfect match, no wonder their compatibility score on the dating app was 99.99%.

Destined to meet, destined to be entangled, destined to be together.

After a while, Chi Jia turned off the lights.

Sleeping in Jing Rui's arms was always more peaceful and comforting than sleeping alone.

The temperature had dropped recently.

"If you're not feeling well, then rest early." Jing Rui's mother had originally planned to return to S City that afternoon, but seeing her daughter unwell, she couldn't bear to leave. "Have you taken your medicine?"

"Yes, I have. It's just a cold, don't worry." Jing Rui continued working in her study. "You should go to bed, I'm fine."

"Don't work too late." Her mother didn't leave, but sat quietly in the study.

Jing Rui knew what she wanted to say. She looked up and smiled. "Mom, just say what you want to say."

"Youyou was worried about you overworking, that's why she came to L City. Tonight, hearing that you're sick, she canceled all her appointments and wanted to come and take care of you. Before coming, she confessed to me, she said she likes you. I think it's a good thing, you two would be a good match…"

Here we go again.

Jing Rui interrupted her mother, reiterating, "I have a girlfriend."

"When have you not had a girlfriend?" Her mother said calmly. "You were young and playful before, I didn't say anything. But you're not young anymore, you should start thinking seriously about settling down."

"We agreed that you and Dad would respect my choices in relationships and marriage."

"I'm just giving you some advice. I didn't object when you said you liked women. I'm saying this because I care about you. Youyou genuinely likes you, you can give her a chance, talk to her seriously." As her only daughter, Jing Rui's mother doted on her and only wanted her to be happy and settled down.

If Jing Rui and Pei You could be together, that would be perfect, and her mother would fully support them.

"But I don't like her." Jing Rui stood up, sat down next to her mother on the sofa, and put her arm around her. "Don't worry about me, this time, I'm serious."

Her mother looked at her, a hint of disbelief in her eyes. "Your current girlfriend?"

"Yes, it wasn't easy for us to get together." Remembering everything they had been through, a smile spread across Jing Rui's face as she mentioned Chi Jia. "I finally understand why Dad pursued you for six years. Perhaps when you meet the right person, there's no room in your heart for anyone else."

Although Jing Rui didn't tell her mother about every relationship, she would occasionally discuss her love life with her.

Hearing such words from her daughter, as if she was a different person, Jing Rui's mother looked at her incredulously, her curiosity piqued. "What kind of girl could make you settle down?"

Jing Rui smiled, seizing the opportunity. "So stop worrying about me and stop trying to set me up with Pei You. Firstly, I don't like her, you can't force love; secondly, there's already someone in my heart."

For someone who had always been a player, to suddenly say she had someone in her heart was surprising, and the more Jing Rui said it, the more curious her mother became, wanting to know who had managed to capture her daughter's heart.

"Since she's your girlfriend, I should meet her." Jing Rui's mother had never cared about her previous girlfriends, but this time was different, her interest piqued. "Do you have a picture? Let me see."

Jing Rui scrolled through her phone, finding the picture she had secretly taken of Chi Jia at sunset, her favorite picture, Chi Jia's hair flowing in the wind, her smile pure and radiant, breathtakingly beautiful.

Jing Rui's mother looked at the picture, instantly liking Chi Jia. She couldn't help but comment, "She's more beautiful than your previous girlfriends."

"She's even more beautiful in person." Jing Rui couldn't help but praise her girlfriend; if Miss Chi heard this, she would be overjoyed.

"She looks quite young."

"Twenty-three…"

Jing Rui's mother learned a bit more about Chi Jia, quite surprised that besides her beauty, she was just an ordinary girl, but Jing Rui clearly adored her, her face lighting up whenever she mentioned her.

It seemed she had truly settled down.

"Let's arrange a time for me to bring her home, to officially meet you and Dad." Jing Rui held her mother's hand. "And I hope you and Dad will respect my choice."

With Jing Rui wanting to bring Chi Jia home, her mother finally believed she was serious. After all these years, apart from their urging, Jing Rui had never actively brought a partner home before.

Her mother sighed. "If you've already decided, what can your father and I do?"

But having someone who could make her settle down was better than her continuing her playboy lifestyle.

"Please don't try to set me up with Pei You anymore, it's awkward." Jing Rui was referring to tonight, her mother had deliberately arranged for Pei You to stay over.

"I don't have the energy to deal with your love life." Her mother turned to Jing Rui. "You should also explain things clearly to her, don't be ambiguous and lead her on."

"I know, you should go to bed now." Jing Rui thought, how could she dare to be intimate with any other woman now? Her girlfriend, a dormant volcano, was ready to erupt at any moment.

Jing Rui was still working in her study past 10 PM. Feeling tired, she called Chi Jia.

Chi Jia had just finished working overtime and was waiting for the elevator when her phone rang. She smiled and answered.

"What are you doing?"

"Working overtime."

"Still at the office this late?" Jing Rui looked at the time.

"I'm home." Chi Jia quickly corrected herself; if she said she was still at the office, Jing Rui would worry.

"I'm also working overtime at home."

Chi Jia, listening to Jing Rui's voice, sensed something was amiss. She was usually oblivious to such things, but she was surprisingly perceptive when it came to her girlfriend. "Do you have a cold?"

Jing Rui, leaning against the back of her chair, her head resting on her hand, replied, "It's nothing, I've taken some medicine."

"I'm coming over right now!"

Jing Rui could hear the concern in Chi Jia's voice. "Silly, it's just a cold, it's so late, you should go to bed, we can have dinner together tomorrow night."

"Don't work too late either." Chi Jia's voice softened, muttering, "Why are you working so hard anyway…?"

"To make money and support my wife, of course."

Chi Jia instinctively replied, "I can support myself, I don't need you to support me."

Jing Rui chuckled on the other end.

After a few seconds, Chi Jia realized why Jing Rui was laughing, having inadvertently given the vixen an opening to tease her.

After a few more sweet nothings, they hung up. Chi Jia had just reached the elevator.

Stepping out of the office building, a cold wind blew past, and Chi Jia realized her coat wasn't warm enough. She stood by the roadside and hailed a cab.

Then she gave the driver Jing Rui's address.

It was only a ten-minute drive.

A surprise visit, to see the vixen.

She had already wanted to see Jing Rui, and now, hearing that she was unwell, she wanted to see her even more…
