Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 79
Chapter 79
Chi Jia, seizing the opportunity, sat down next to Chi Lishu, clinging to her arm and acting coquettishly. "She said she wants to treat you to dinner tonight, will you go?"
Thirty years old, owns her own company. Chi Lishu matched the details with Jing Rui, then realized that Chi Jia had never actually said her partner was a man.
"You lied about the gathering last night, you were with her, weren't you?" Chi Lishu glanced at Chi Jia.
Chi Jia smiled sweetly and nodded.
"You really…"
"Isn't she beautiful? Your daughter has good taste, doesn't she?" Chi Jia couldn't help but brag; her girlfriend was so beautiful and successful, if she weren't worried about her mother's reaction, she would have shown her off long ago.
Seeing Chi Jia's smug expression, Chi Lishu couldn't help but laugh; so this was what Chi Jia had been so hesitant about. Although she understood, her daughter's happiness was still her priority. "You can't just look at appearances, what's important is…"
"Don't worry, she's very good to me, she spoils me." Chi Jia interrupted, knowing her mother had always doted on her, afraid of her being mistreated.
Chi Lishu listened quietly.
"We're serious about this, we've even thought about the future." Chi Jia's playful smile faded as she confessed, "Actually, at first, I also couldn't accept being with a woman… I thought it was wrong, but I just couldn't help but fall for her, I really don't want to leave her. So I was really afraid you would object…"
Chi Jia's voice held a hint of vulnerability, and Chi Lishu, seeing her daughter's worried expression, her heart softened. After all, her daughter was her most precious treasure. "As long as you two are happy together, that's all that matters. If you've found the right person, I would be happy for you, why would I object?"
"I'm not worried anymore, I knew you would understand." Chi Jia hugged Chi Lishu, a bright smile on her face. "I'm so happy, Mom, thank you."
Chi Jia had expected a difficult conversation, but it turned out to be a double blessing.
"Does Rui Rui's family know about your relationship?" Chi Lishu gently patted Chi Jia's back, still worried about her daughter's future.
"I met her parents last year, they support us." Chi Jia released Chi Lishu, her voice filled with confidence. "Now, all I need is your blessing, and I can bring her home, to be your daughter."
Chi Lishu chuckled, having been very impressed by Jing Rui. She teased Chi Jia, "Do you even have what it takes? Rui Rui is much more successful than you."
"I'm not bad either! I have plenty of admirers!" Chi Jia retorted, but she knew the gap between her and Jing Rui, and with her ambition, she was working even harder now than before.
"So, between you and Rui Rui, who pursued whom?"
"Of course, she pursued me, relentlessly." Chi Jia said, exaggerating slightly, then, her curiosity piqued, she asked, "What about you and Auntie Yang? Who pursued whom?"
Chi Lishu, sipping her water, didn't reply.
"You don't have to tell me, I already know." Chi Jia looked at Chi Lishu, certain of her answer. "It must have been Auntie Yang who pursued you."
"How did you know?"
"I came out of your belly, of course I know." Chi Jia joked, then continued, "So it's settled then, we're having dinner together tonight. Invite Auntie Yang too."
"Okay." Chi Lishu sighed, looking at Chi Jia. "Bring your girlfriend over later, we'll have dinner at home tonight."
Hearing the word "girlfriend" from Chi Lishu made Chi Jia overjoyed; she and her vixen could finally be open about their relationship. She stood up immediately, eager to share the good news. "I'll go pick her up now!"
"Aren't you going to finish your meal?" Chi Lishu asked.
Chi Jia had already put on her coat and was changing her shoes. "I'm full."
"Bring Rui Rui's luggage over too, she can stay here with us, no need for a hotel. This way, you won't have to find excuses to sneak out every night." Chi Lishu's words hit the mark; a mother truly knew her daughter best.
"Okay!" Chi Jia said, heading towards the door.
"Jiajia, your car keys."
"Oh…"
It was snowing heavily, the roads icy and congested. A short distance, but it took a long time. Even so, Chi Jia couldn't stop smiling as she drove to the hotel.
In her hotel room, Jing Rui was sitting at her desk by the window, her brow furrowed as she reviewed a project proposal on her laptop. For Jing Rui, the concept of "vacation" was vague; there was always work to be done.
Half an hour later, a knock came at the door.
She hadn't ordered any service, so it must be Chi Jia. Jing Rui stopped working and went to the door. As she opened it, Chi Jia, bundled up in her long down jacket, stood there, frozen.
"What are you standing there for, come in." Jing Rui took Chi Jia's hand and pulled her inside. "Why are you here already? Didn't you say you would be late?"
As soon as they were inside, Chi Jia deliberately put on a serious, worried expression.
"What's wrong?"
"I told my mom about us…"
Seeing Chi Jia's dejected expression, Jing Rui's heart sank, a sudden anxiety gripping her. "Did she give you a hard time? I told you to let me handle it, why didn't you listen to me?"
Only Miss Chi could make Jing Rui this anxious.
"My mom said…" Chi Jia paused, trying to suppress a smile, her voice serious.
Jing Rui looked at Chi Jia's face, her arm instinctively wrapping around Chi Jia in a comforting embrace. "Don't worry, we'll take it slow."
Chi Jia leaned against Jing Rui's shoulder, touched by her concern.
As expected, no matter what, Jing Rui would always be there for her. She hugged Jing Rui back, then unable to contain herself any longer, she burst out laughing.
Jing Rui released Chi Jia, looking at her laughing face, a suspicion dawning on her. She pinched Chi Jia's cheek. "Stop lying, trying to trick me with such nonsense?"
Chi Jia, still giggling, asked, "Were you worried just now?"
"Childish."
"I was just kidding, don't be so petty."
"Did you really tell your mother?"
Chi Jia nodded seriously. "Yes, I did."
Seeing the bright smile on Chi Jia's face, Jing Rui knew it was good news. "What did she say?"
"She wants us to come home for dinner."
"That's it?"
Chi Jia took Jing Rui's hand, her joy overflowing, and kissed her hard on the lips, then whispered against her forehead, "I told her I'm going to marry you, and she said okay."
This was the first time Chi Jia had smiled so freely since they got together, finally having that weight lifted off her shoulders. Jing Rui pulled Chi Jia into an embrace, her own face mirroring Chi Jia's joy. She couldn't help but tease her, "You haven't even proposed yet, and you're already saying you're going to marry me?"
Chi Jia acted coyly. "Proposing is your job."
"How is that my job?"
"You don't have to propose if you don't want to, I'm not forcing you." Chi Jia wrapped her arms around Jing Rui's waist, snuggling closer. "I'm still young anyway, I'm not in a hurry to get married, I can still play around for a few more years."
The mention of age again, Chi Jia had hit Jing Rui's sore spot. "I'm not arguing with you about this."
"I'm younger than you, so you have to indulge me." Chi Jia continued, "And you have to be extra nice to me in front of my mother, or she won't be at ease letting me be with you."
Jing Rui caught the important part. "So you're saying I'm usually not nice to you?"
"You're… adequate." Chi Jia would only say this to Jing Rui; she knew better than anyone how good Jing Rui was to her, having praised Jing Rui endlessly in front of Chi Lishu.
"You have such high standards…" Jing Rui knew Chi Jia's personality well; she rarely said anything nice, but her actions showed she cared. Just like today, telling her mother about their relationship without consulting her first, Jing Rui understood Chi Jia's intentions. "Don't do this again."
"Do what?"
"Making decisions on your own. I told you I would be there with you."
"It's fine, my mom didn't object, she was actually quite happy…"
Jing Rui interrupted Chi Jia. "What if she wasn't? What if she gave you a hard time?"
Chi Jia was silent for a moment. "I didn't want you to go through that either, if I can handle it myself, I don't want to put you in a difficult position."
They both cared deeply about protecting each other.
Jing Rui kissed Chi Jia softly on the lips. "Feeling better now? Not overthinking anymore?"
"Mmm." Chi Jia hugged Jing Rui tighter, burying her face in Jing Rui's neck, a smile on her face. "My mom approves, I can't believe it, I feel like I'm dreaming."
Jing Rui playfully bit Chi Jia's lip.
Chi Jia winced. "Ouch…"
Jing Rui chuckled. "If it hurts, then it's not a dream."
"Do you know why my mom accepted it so easily?" Chi Jia thought for a moment, then added, "Actually, you'll never guess…"
Before Chi Jia could finish.
"Your mother also likes women?" Jing Rui asked calmly.
Chi Jia, stunned by her accurate guess, exclaimed, "How did you know?!"
Seeing Chi Jia's reaction, Jing Rui's suspicion was confirmed. "The woman having dinner with your mother last night, was she your mother's girlfriend? They must have been together for quite some time."
"Yes… how did you figure it out?"
"A woman's intuition." Jing Rui used this excuse again, although it wasn't that difficult to tell. Even during that brief dinner, their glances, their expressions, their subtle gestures, they seemed more like lovers than just friends.
"Why didn't my intuition tell me anything?"
"Perhaps… because you're an innocent little lamb?" Jing Rui couldn't help but tease Chi Jia again.
Chi Jia: "..."
Before heading home, Chi Jia and Jing Rui went shopping for gifts. While shopping, Chi Jia received a message from Chi Lishu: When are you two coming home? What does Rui Rui like to eat?
Chi Jia suddenly felt threatened; her mother usually asked her what she wanted to eat, always indulging her.
An hour later, Chi Jia, carrying several shopping bags, said, "Mom, we're home!"
", Auntie."
"You're back!" Chi Lishu's face lit up with a smile as she hurried over to help Jing Rui with the bags. "Rui Rui, why did you buy so many things? It's cold outside, come in quickly."
Chi Jia stood at the doorway, feeling slightly ignored as her mother fussed over Jing Rui, her enthusiasm after learning that Jing Rui was her girlfriend even greater than last night…
