Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 71

Chapter 71

"Why don't you marry me?" Chi Jia retorted, refusing to back down.

"That works too." Jing Rui, her arm around Chi Jia, didn't mind at all. "A perfect wife like me isn't easy to find, you better make your move soon."

She didn't hesitate to call herself perfect. But in Chi Jia's heart, Jing Rui was indeed close to perfect. Although she kept a low profile, she wanted to announce to the world how amazing and beautiful her girlfriend was. She felt a sense of pride whenever they walked down the street hand in hand.

After their playful banter, Chi Jia became thoughtful, perhaps because of the mention of marriage.

Would she and Jing Rui actually get married?

It seemed like a distant prospect.

Chi Jia didn't know if Jing Rui was serious when she said those words, but Chi Jia was starting to think about it… seriously…

But they had only been together for a short while, she hadn't even come out to her family yet, and she was already thinking about marriage? It seemed premature.

"You look silly." Jing Rui, seeing Chi Jia lost in thought, smiled and gently ruffled her hair, then gave her a nudge. "Go get dressed."

Chi Jia snapped back to reality, and before letting go of Jing Rui, she kissed her softly, a small, instinctive gesture of affection whenever they were alone.

The neighborhood was lush and green, birds chirping in the trees, the air filled with the fragrance of spring flowers.

Standing by the window, bathed in the warm sunlight, Chi Jia smiled at Jing Rui, finally feeling like spring had truly arrived.

Chi Jia probably didn't even realize how much more often she smiled around Jing Rui. But Jing Rui noticed it, whether it was a happy smile, a coquettish smile, or a stubborn smile, they were all hers.

As Chi Jia kissed her, Jing Rui held her tighter, reluctant to let go.

"Let go of me." Chi Jia tried to pull Jing Rui's hand away, realizing she shouldn't have provoked the vixen; it was just a light peck on the lips, and now Jing Rui's arms were tightly wrapped around her waist.

Chi Jia pushed Jing Rui again. "I need to get dressed."

Jing Rui kissed Chi Jia several times, returning the favor. "I'll help you."

"No, thanks…" Chi Jia immediately refused, but after a moment of playful resistance, she gave in.

Jing Rui called it "fun," and Chi Jia was getting used to this kind of "fun," enjoying it, after all, they were always shameless with each other.

Laughter and playful banter echoed from the walk-in closet.

Just getting dressed, and Miss Chi was already being thoroughly teased.

"Hey! I knew it…"

"Stop touching me!"

Chi Jia squirmed and protested as she took off her clothes.

She had known this would happen when Jing Rui offered to help her get dressed. She wanted to act angry, but her words came out with a smile, like a playful lover's quarrel.

Which only encouraged Jing Rui.

Jing Rui's hands trailed along Chi Jia's smooth, bare back, making her blush furiously. She whispered in Chi Jia's ear, her lips brushing against her skin, "If I don't touch them, how will they grow bigger?"

It wasn't entirely untrue; Chi Jia's breasts seemed to have grown slightly larger, thanks to Jing Rui's efforts.

"…Pervert!" Despite calling Jing Rui a pervert, Chi Jia couldn't hide the affection in her voice. She didn't know when this insult had become a term of endearment between them.

Jing Rui didn't reply, just chuckled softly in Chi Jia's ear, a melodious sound that made Chi Jia's heart flutter.

This vixen, not only was she seductive, she was also a master tease.

"I'll dress myself…"

"Don't move, I'll help you." Jing Rui picked up a light-colored bra and helped Chi Jia put it on from behind.

As Jing Rui's hands moved over her breasts, Chi Jia's mind went blank. "Jing Rui…"

Jing Rui deliberately fumbled. "It's not on properly."

Miss Chi couldn't take it anymore.

As soon as she was dressed, she turned around and pinned Jing Rui against the closet, kissing her passionately, her hands exploring Jing Rui's body, returning the favor.

Chi Jia never let Jing Rui get away with anything; if Jing Rui made her beg for mercy in bed, she would find a way to get even. It was this competitive spirit that fueled their passionate entanglement.

"Babe…" Jing Rui tried to push Chi Jia away, but Chi Jia held her hands above her head, pinning them against the closet as she continued kissing her. And Jing Rui calling her "babe" only fueled the fire.

When Chi Jia was being unreasonable, Jing Rui was no match for her.

After all, Miss Chi had boundless energy, having been athletic since childhood.

"There's soup simmering downstairs."

Having had her fill of teasing, Chi Jia finally released Jing Rui, both of them slightly breathless, their passionate encounter almost escalating.

After calming down.

"I'm starving." Chi Jia rubbed her stomach.

Having exerted so much energy last night, she was naturally hungry now.

Jing Rui led Chi Jia to the bed, then bent down and took a chocolate bar from the drawer. "Have this first, don't eat too much."

Seeing the familiar chocolate bar, Chi Jia rolled her eyes; Jing Rui still remembered that, even keeping a stash at home, what a strange habit.

Chi Jia loved snacks, and even before she moved in, Jing Rui had filled her house with them, the three-door refrigerator downstairs stocked with all of Miss Chi's favorites.

The sunlight in the courtyard was warm and inviting.

"Happy Birthday."

"Cheers."

A simple meal, a few dishes, two glasses of wine, and the company of her loved one.

Her twenty-third birthday, just her and her vixen, not as lively as previous birthdays, but the sweetest. At this beautiful age, a woman had walked into her life. Life was strange; she had been waiting for a prince, but a princess had arrived instead. But it didn't matter, what mattered was, she felt like she had found the right person.

Chi Jia remembered how she had repeatedly rejected Jing Rui, out of fear, out of avoidance, but mostly because she hadn't been willing to take the risk. But after everything they had been through, she had finally found the courage.

"Eat some more."

"I've had enough." If Jing Rui kept feeding her like this, Chi Jia was certain she would gain weight within a year.

After lunch, they relaxed on the lounge chairs on the rooftop, enjoying the sun.

The sun was warm and pleasant.

Chi Jia took a yogurt cup, opened it, and offered it to Jing Rui with a mischievous smile. "Here, have some."

Jing Rui frowned. "You're just giving me the lid to lick?"

"It's the best part." Chi Jia said with a straight face.

Jing Rui leaned over Chi Jia, her body pressing against Chi Jia's. "Treating me like this now, what will you do after we're married? Abuse me?"

The mention of marriage again.

Chi Jia had initially thought Jing Rui would avoid marriage, seeing it as a constraint, but lately, she seemed to be bringing it up more and more often, casually mentioning "after we're married."

Chi Jia loved hearing those words; if you found the right person, marriage wasn't a constraint, but a reassurance, a promise of a future together.

Chi Jia used to think she wouldn't consider marriage before she turned twenty-six, but now, with Jing Rui, the thought made her heart flutter.

"Do you want to get married?" Chi Jia asked curiously.

Jing Rui looked at Chi Jia, a thoughtful expression on her face. "I never thought about it before."

Chi Jia didn't know that despite Jing Rui's many exes, she was the first one Jing Rui had lived with. Before, even with her girlfriends, Jing Rui had never suggested living together, because once you lived together, you had to face the other person's flaws, magnified, and she didn't have the patience for that, always treating relationships as a game.

But wanting to live with Chi Jia wasn't a whim; she was willing to compromise, to adjust, even to change. She didn't know why she was willing to do this for Chi Jia, perhaps it was just… fate.

Because it was her, she was willing.

Chi Jia felt like Jing Rui had more to say. "And now?"

"Now, I do."

Chi Jia's heart warmed; Jing Rui's gaze, as she said those words, was fixed on Chi Jia, her sincerity undeniable. Chi Jia secretly rejoiced, then asked knowingly, "Because of me?"

"Yes."

Chi Jia's joy was evident, but she still asked, "You're not just saying that to make me happy, are you?"

Jing Rui didn't answer, instead asking, "Are you willing?"

"Willing to what?"

"Marry me."

Chi Jia's heart skipped a beat, but she replied, "No."

Jing Rui looked at her, a question in her eyes.

Chi Jia, afraid Jing Rui would misunderstand, quickly added, "Who… proposes like that? It's not romantic at all."

"You want romance? That's easy."

Chi Jia's expression turned serious. "My mother doesn't know about us yet."

Having touched upon a sensitive topic, Jing Rui kissed Chi Jia's forehead. "Don't worry about it."

How could she not worry? Her mother had been divorced for so many years, refusing even to remarry, let alone accepting that her daughter was in love with a woman. Chi Jia had no idea how to tell her mother.

"Let me try." Seeing Chi Jia lost in thought, Jing Rui tried to distract her, taking the yogurt cup and licking the yogurt from the lid.

Chi Jia, seeing this, commented, "You lick that so… seductively."

"Like this?" Jing Rui, taking it as a compliment, licked the lid again, then slowly brought her tongue to Chi Jia's lips, a blatant invitation.

"I can't take you anymore…" Chi Jia muttered, unable to watch.

In the end, Miss Chi, despite claiming she couldn't take it, leaned in and captured Jing Rui's tongue with her lips, eagerly returning the kiss.

Their lips met, their eyes closing as they kissed, a familiar dance.

Under the warm sun, Chi Jia, half-lying beneath Jing Rui, their kiss deepened.

Chi Jia's phone rang incessantly.

She ignored it at first, but the ringing persisted.

"Let me answer the phone." Chi Jia said breathlessly, pulling away from the kiss.

"We're on vacation, ignore it." Jing Rui cupped Chi Jia's face in her hands, trying to continue the kiss.

Chi Jia still reached for her phone. "It's my mom…"

Jing Rui reluctantly let go, wrapping her arms around Chi Jia's waist, her chin resting on Chi Jia's shoulder as she waited.

"Jiajia, happy birthday! It's your day off, right? You should celebrate with your friends."

Chi Jia felt incredibly guilty answering the phone, especially with Jing Rui holding her so close, occasionally kissing her neck. She stammered, "I'm celebrating with my friend, don't worry."

"What friend?" Chi Lishu asked curiously. "Is it your boyfriend?"

"No, just an ordinary friend… Ouch!"

Chi Jia yelped as Jing Rui pinched her thigh hard…
