Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 81

Chapter 81

When Jing Rui said "Marry me," Chi Jia's first reaction was one of overwhelming emotion.

"When did you prepare this?"

"I'm not telling you."

Proposing right after she came out to her mother, it seemed premeditated. This was Jing Rui's second proposal, and Chi Jia, on top of Jing Rui, couldn't help but feel smug. "Are you that eager to marry me?"

"Aren't you always saying I'm old?" Jing Rui gently brushed Chi Jia's hair aside, her touch tender. "Of course, I'm eager to get married when I'm old."

"Oh," Chi Jia moved away from Jing Rui, sitting cross-legged on the bed, feigning indifference. "So you just think it's time to settle down, and I happened to be available, is that it?"

"You can't go a day without arguing with me." Jing Rui also sat up, facing Chi Jia, and said in her usual commanding tone, "Give me your hand."

Before Chi Jia could react, Jing Rui took her hand and started putting the ring on her slender, white finger…

As the ring touched her finger, Chi Jia pulled her hand back, narrowly escaping the vixen's trap.

"I haven't said yes yet."

Jing Rui smiled, still holding Chi Jia's hand, and asked again, "Babe, will you marry me?"

"No!" Chi Jia's reply was immediate and decisive.

"Why?" The answer wasn't unexpected; her little devil wouldn't agree so easily.

"Just because." Chi Jia started listing her reasons, "Who proposes like this? In bed, without even a single flower? How can anyone agree to such a casual proposal…?"

Despite her complaints, Chi Jia was secretly overjoyed, she loved seeing Jing Rui's serious expression as she asked her to marry her. It always made her heart flutter.

"You're truly impossible…" Jing Rui murmured, then leaning over, she silenced Chi Jia with a kiss.

Chi Jia's protests were swallowed by the kiss, silence returning.

Jing Rui's eyes closed as the kiss deepened, Chi Jia gradually responding.

Lost in Jing Rui's sweet kiss, Chi Jia's face flushed. After a while, she pulled away, still pretending to be unmoved. "A couple of kisses, and you think I'll marry you? In your dreams."

"Then what do you want?" Jing Rui's gaze lingered on Chi Jia's lips, then she leaned closer, whispering in Chi Jia's ear, her warm breath and seductive voice sending shivers down Chi Jia's spine. "I'm all yours tonight, how about that?"

That old trick again, blatant seduction.

Despite being a familiar tactic, Chi Jia was still tempted, the vixen rarely offered such privileges. She took a moment to compose herself, then said, "No, your proposal was too casual…"

"You're such a tease." Jing Rui sighed, exasperated yet amused by Miss Chi's antics. "If you're not satisfied with this proposal, I'll propose again until you are, how about that?"

Chi Jia, hearing the familiar words, remembered Jing Rui saying she would pursue her until she was satisfied.

And Jing Rui had indeed kept her promises. Sometimes, Chi Jia felt she was being too difficult, taking advantage of Jing Rui's affection. She looked down at the ring in Jing Rui's hand, knowing Jing Rui truly cared about her, she couldn't help but feel touched.

A smile played on Chi Jia's lips as she kissed Jing Rui's cheek, her gaze lingering on Jing Rui's beautiful face. On a whim, she asked, "Twenty years from now, will you still be this good to me? Like Auntie Yang is to my mom?"

Twenty years seemed like a long time, but it would pass in the blink of an eye. Her mother and Auntie Yang were a testament to that. Now, in middle age, their love was no longer a passionate fire, but a gentle, steady stream, a comfortable companionship. Perhaps that was the most beautiful ending for a love story.

Jing Rui had always been rational in relationships, knowing what she wanted. She had craved freedom before, but now, she wanted stability, and she knew who was truly indispensable to her.

So when she first proposed to Chi Jia, she had been prepared. A proposal wasn't just about saying "marry me," but the beginning of a lifelong commitment.

"Of course, I will." Jing Rui looked into Chi Jia's eyes. "Not just twenty years…"

Chi Jia no longer saw it as just sweet talk; it took time to truly know someone, and she thought she had finally found the person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.

"Don't believe me?" Jing Rui saw the uncertainty in Chi Jia's eyes. "Then marry me, and I'll prove it to you."

Chi Jia blinked, her eyes suddenly welling up.

Tears for strange reasons.

She had been thinking a lot tonight, about everything she and Jing Rui had been through, how difficult it had been for them to get together. And she felt incredibly lucky, having prepared herself for the worst, only to be met with the best possible outcome…

"Why are you crying?"

Chi Jia sniffed. "Just… happy."

Jing Rui gently wiped away Chi Jia's tears and kissed her softly. "Seeing you cry makes my heart ache."

Chi Jia smiled, leaning closer to Jing Rui, her voice soft. "Wifey…"

"Mmm." Jing Rui, a smile playing on her lips, leaned in to kiss Chi Jia.

Jing Rui's smile reminded Chi Jia of their first meeting; she should have hated this vixen, but she couldn't forget her.

Chi Jia's gaze moved from Jing Rui's smiling lips to her eyes, her voice soft and affectionate. "My wifey is so beautiful when she smiles…"

Their noses touched.

Jing Rui had never seen Chi Jia this happy, so openly affectionate, and she gently caressed Chi Jia's soft lips with her finger. "Such sweet words tonight."

Chi Jia leaned in and kissed Jing Rui softly. "Sweet?" she asked as she pulled away.

"Very," Jing Rui replied, enjoying Chi Jia's affection, wanting more. "Again."

Chi Jia indulged her, their lips meeting again, a soft, lingering kiss, their eyes fluttering closed.

Entangled, lost in the moment.

Jing Rui moaned softly, her hand taking Chi Jia's, finally slipping the ring onto her finger.

Chi Jia looked down at the ring, a perfect fit, a smile spreading across her face.

"Consider it a New Year's gift." Jing Rui, holding Chi Jia's hand, explained, "From now on, you have to wear it all the time, except when you're with me, to let everyone know you're taken, understand? I've been telling everyone I have a wife, you should also act accordingly."

Jing Rui was indeed very public about their relationship, wanting the whole world to know that Chi Jia was hers. Now, whenever Chi Jia went to Number Nine, the staff would call her "Boss's wife," having been specifically instructed to do so by Jing Rui. What could Chi Jia say?

"Such a jealous and petty woman."

"I am petty," Jing Rui said, pulling Chi Jia into an embrace, "what are you going to do about it?"

"I…" Before Chi Jia could finish, she playfully pushed Jing Rui down onto the bed, taking the dominant position. Although they had been intimate countless times, kissing Jing Rui still made her heart race.

Jing Rui's beauty, her allure, even without a word, a single glance, a subtle gesture, was enough to captivate Chi Jia's heart.

"You said I could do whatever I want with you tonight…" Chi Jia said, a mischievous smile playing on her lips as her hand trailed down Jing Rui's face.

Jing Rui caught Chi Jia's hand, a seductive smile on her face. "I said that if you agreed to marry me, you could do whatever you want with me."

"I never said I wouldn't marry you…" Chi Jia said, then eagerly started undressing Jing Rui, her hands moving to Jing Rui's chest.

"Then… when are you marrying me?" Jing Rui asked, her eyes half-closed, her voice breathy as she lay beneath Chi Jia, enjoying her touch.

"Guess…" Chi Jia whispered after a lingering kiss. "Be quiet tonight."

"What if I can't help myself?" Jing Rui, her voice husky, teased Chi Jia.

"You have to. If you moan too loudly, my mom will hear us."

Like a couple having a secret affair. Chi Jia's concern wasn't unfounded; usually, it was just the two of them, and when they first moved in together, Jing Rui's moans had made Chi Jia blush, but later, she had gotten used to it, enjoying their passionate nights together.

Chi Jia wasn't as unrestrained as usual tonight, always cautious, the thought of her mother in the next room making her hold back, even her breathing.

But it was strangely exciting.

"Mmm, babe…"

"My mom is next door, be quiet…" As soon as Jing Rui started moaning, Chi Jia quickly silenced her with a kiss.

Despite her words, Chi Jia didn't hold back, her movements growing bolder, a mischievous smile on her face. Usually, she was the one being teased and pushed to the limit by Jing Rui; tonight, she was getting her revenge.

Jing Rui clutched the sheets, her teeth biting Chi Jia's shoulder, her voice a low moan. "I'll get you back for this later…"

"Still being stubborn?" Chi Jia, seeing Jing Rui's lost expression, only intensified her teasing.

In the next room, silence.

Yang Lu was sitting up in bed, reading a magazine. Seeing Chi Lishu come out of the bathroom, she put down the magazine, moved over, and offered Chi Lishu the warmer side of the bed.

"What are you looking at?" Chi Lishu asked, getting into bed and glancing at the magazine; it was about travel destinations.

"Looking for places to take our wedding photos. Where do you want to go?"

"Wedding photos? At our age?"

"What do you mean 'our age'? We're at the peak of our womanhood." Yang Lu put her arm around Chi Lishu and smiled. "You still owe me a wedding, don't think you can get out of it."

"We're really doing this?"

"You were worried about Jiajia not accepting it before, but now, what's stopping you? Let's have a destination wedding this year, and a honeymoon while we're at it."

"A honeymoon? For us?" Chi Lishu chuckled.

"Who says honeymoons are only for young people? You're still as unromantic as ever." Yang Lu sighed, remembering the past. "Chasing you was like chasing a block of wood…"

"Why are you bringing up ancient history?" Chi Lishu lay down. "Let's go to sleep."

A few seconds later, Chi Lishu turned over and sighed. "Jiajia is serious this time, she really likes this girl."

"Rui Rui is good to Jiajia, are you still bothered by her being with a woman?"

"It's not easy for two women to be together."

"They're both grown-ups, they know what they're doing, don't worry so much."

"As long as she's happy, I'm happy."

Yang Lu embraced Chi Lishu. "Can you think about yourself for once? Think about me?"

"When have I not cared about you?"

Yang Lu joked, "You seem to care more about Jiajia."

"Are you seriously competing with my daughter for attention?"

"By the way, Jiajia called me 'Mom' today."

"Really?"

"Mmm…"

Yang Lu smiled, holding Chi Lishu close, then gave her a quick kiss.

A silent exchange of glances.

Chi Lishu frowned. "The girls are next door."

"We'll be quiet…"
