Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 64
Chapter 64
Chi Jia, her chin resting on Jing Rui's shoulder, stared into the darkness, feeling Jing Rui's arms tighten around her.
The embrace warmed them both.
A rollercoaster of emotions in just a few minutes.
The scene she had witnessed upstairs had been truly devastating, after finally finding the courage to love Jing Rui. If Jing Rui hurt her, she might never have the energy to love again…
As her emotions gradually calmed, Chi Jia also embraced Jing Rui, inhaling her comforting fragrance. She nuzzled her face against Jing Rui's neck and bit down, not hard, but a venting bite.
Jing Rui winced slightly, her hand gently stroking Chi Jia's hair, letting her bite. Feeling Chi Jia's trembling body in her arms, she understood how Chi Jia was feeling, how much she cared.
Chi Jia didn't let go until she had left a row of teeth marks, then softly kissed the spot.
"You're like a puppy, biting me." Jing Rui cupped Chi Jia's face in her hands, her heart aching seeing the tears welling up in her eyes.
"You're the puppy!" Chi Jia looked at Jing Rui, a possessive desire swelling in her heart; she wanted Jing Rui to belong only to her. She buried her face in Jing Rui's neck, holding her tight, their silent embrace speaking volumes.
Pei You, having grabbed her coat and followed Jing Rui out, stopped in her tracks, seeing the two of them embracing tightly downstairs…
Her heart felt as cold as the night.
Pei You realized that Jing Rui had truly changed. Did promiscuous people, once they became devoted, love more deeply than anyone else? It was just that her devotion wasn't directed at Pei You.
"Let's go upstairs." Jing Rui took Chi Jia's hand, also icy cold, and held it tight.
"Upstairs…?" Chi Jia suddenly felt awkward, remembering Jing Rui's mother was also there. She hadn't expected her first meeting with Jing Rui's mother to be like this.
"My mother is waiting upstairs, she wants to meet you."
"Meet me?" Chi Jia's eyes widened. "Won't your mother hate me?"
A new wave of anxiety washed over Chi Jia. She had planned to make a good first impression, to carefully prepare for this meeting, but tonight… it was certainly a memorable first impression.
Witnessing a "catching the cheater" scene, how could it not be memorable?
"Are you scared?"
"Who's scared?" Chi Jia pretended to be nonchalant, but inwardly, she was incredibly nervous.
"I showed my mother your picture, and she said…"
"Said what?" Chi Jia asked quickly.
"She said you…" Jing Rui deliberately paused, a playful glint in her eyes.
"Said what?!" Chi Jia was getting anxious.
Jing Rui finally smiled, gently stroking Chi Jia's hair. "She said you're beautiful."
"Really?" Chi Jia, relieved, couldn't help but tease Jing Rui, "Your mother has much better taste than you."
As they waited for the elevator.
"Let me touch up my makeup first."
"I'll help you." Jing Rui cornered Chi Jia in the elevator, took out her lipstick, and gently applied it to Chi Jia's soft lips.
Even applying lipstick could be so seductive, Chi Jia thought.
The elevator ascended.
"What kind of person does your mother like?" Chi Jia asked casually.
"Someone gentle and understanding." Jing Rui pinched Chi Jia's cheek playfully. "So be nice to me in front of my mother, understand?"
"When am I not nice to you…" Chi Jia's voice trailed off, remembering the slap she had just given Jing Rui, feeling guilty.
Jing Rui simply glanced at her.
Chi Jia was speechless.
Upstairs, Jing Rui's mother and Pei You were still sitting in the living room. The atmosphere was slightly awkward as the four of them met.
"Mom, this is my girlfriend, Chi Jia."
", Auntie." Chi Jia greeted politely, looking at the elegant and imposing woman before her, a mirror image of Jing Rui. She couldn't deny her nervousness, but Jing Rui's hand holding hers was reassuring.
Jing Rui's mother looked at Chi Jia for a few seconds, finding her even more attractive in person than in the picture. She nodded with a faint smile. "."
Her reaction was neither warm nor cold, making Chi Jia uneasy. She fidgeted with Jing Rui's hand, occasionally glancing at her.
Jing Rui couldn't help but smile, amused by Miss Chi's rare display of nervousness. In front of her mother and Pei You, she said to Chi Jia, her voice filled with affection, "Silly, relax, no need to be nervous."
"I'm… not nervous." Chi Jia glared at Jing Rui, feeling even more awkward after being called out.
"Still being stubborn."
Jing Rui's mother, seeing this, smiled. It seemed her daughter's heart had truly been captured.
The usually proud and aloof Jing Rui, unwilling to lower herself for anyone, had chased after a girl in her nightgown. The urgency in Jing Rui's eyes as she ran after Chi Jia hadn't escaped her mother's notice. If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she wouldn't have believed it.
"Am I that scary?" Jing Rui's mother, finding the girl sweet and adorable, couldn't resist teasing her.
Chi Jia's eyes widened, and she quickly shook her head. "No… no, you're not."
Jing Rui chuckled. "Mom, stop teasing her."
Chi Jia breathed a sigh of relief; it seemed the vixen's queenly aura was hereditary.
"I didn't prepare anything for our first meeting, I'll treat you to dinner next time." Jing Rui's mother said kindly. Since Jing Rui had finally settled down and brought her girlfriend home, she naturally had to show some goodwill.
"Thank you, Auntie." Hearing her words, Chi Jia finally relaxed, a sweet, genuine smile spreading across her face.
The smile made Jing Rui's mother like her even more. "You're very beautiful."
Chi Jia beamed. "You're beautiful too, Auntie, so elegant."
Such a sweet talker. Jing Rui, seeing Chi Jia's flattering smile, couldn't help but pinch her cheek. "I don't recall you ever complimenting me on my looks."
As the others chatted and laughed, Pei You felt increasingly awkward, wanting to leave if she could.
Jing Rui's mother noticed her discomfort. "Youyou, stay and chat with me for a bit."
Pei You snapped back to reality. "Okay, Auntie."
"There was a misunderstanding earlier, I apologize." Jing Rui said, looking at Pei You.
Pei You looked at Jing Rui's hand holding Chi Jia's, her smile forced. She didn't reply.
Chi Jia, seeing Pei You in Jing Rui's nightgown, was still annoyed, but she couldn't say anything in this situation, so she just had to endure it.
"It's good that the misunderstanding is cleared up." Jing Rui's mother broke the awkward silence, then looking at Jing Rui, she said, "You're not wearing enough, go back to your room and rest, don't let your cold get worse."
"Okay, we'll go in now, you two should also go to bed early."
Pei You's gaze lingered on Jing Rui and Chi Jia, her expression darkening.
Jing Rui's mother took Pei You's hand. "Let's have a chat, Auntie and you."
"Okay…"
"I know you're upset, but you can't force love, and you've seen Rui Rui's situation now."
Pei You forced a smile, her voice tight. "I wish her well."
"Everyone makes mistakes in relationships, it's important to know when to let go. Before loving someone else, you have to learn to love yourself first." Jing Rui's mother gently patted Pei You's shoulder. "There will be a good girl waiting for you in the future, my dear."
Pei You smiled bitterly. Because of Jing Rui, she had indeed missed out on a lot.
As soon as they entered the bedroom and closed the door, Jing Rui embraced Chi Jia. "If you were half as gentle with me as you are with others, I would be satisfied."
Chi Jia admitted she had a bad temper with Jing Rui, always taking her frustrations out on her. She retorted playfully, "Haven't you heard? 'Hitting is affection, cursing is love.'"
"So you're planning to hit me again in the future?" Jing Rui caught the important part.
Chi Jia was speechless. Actually, she regretted slapping Jing Rui, it had hurt her more than Jing Rui. She gently caressed Jing Rui's cheek, which was still slightly red. "Does it hurt?"
Jing Rui looked at her. "Does it look like it hurts?"
Chi Jia hesitated for a moment, then leaned in and kissed Jing Rui's cheek softly. "Better now?"
The small gesture made Jing Rui smile. "Are you trying to appease me?"
Chi Jia wanted to say that she had come here tonight specifically to do that, but she hadn't expected this to happen. A well-intentioned surprise turned into a misunderstanding, and she had even met Jing Rui's mother.
Thankfully, everything turned out alright.
"If getting slapped can earn me a little more of your trust, it's worth it."
Chi Jia kissed Jing Rui's cheek again, her arms around Jing Rui's waist, murmuring, "I'm sorry."
Miss Chi actually apologized. Jing Rui stroked Chi Jia's hair. "Why are you apologizing? I would be angry if you weren't jealous."
Speaking of jealousy, Chi Jia felt there were still some things they needed to discuss. She pushed Jing Rui away, her mood changing instantly. "What's your relationship with that woman? Why was she here? And why was she wearing your nightgown?!"
Before Jing Rui could answer.
Chi Jia continued angrily, "Does she like you?"
Especially the image of that woman looking at her girlfriend's face with such concern after she slapped Jing Rui, it made Chi Jia's blood boil.
A woman's intuition was terrifyingly accurate.
"Didn't I tell you? She came with my mother, she's just an ordinary friend. It was just a new nightgown, I let her borrow it. If I let her wear one of my old nightgowns, you would have killed me."
Jing Rui was right; if that were the case, Miss Chi would be furious.
Chi Jia pouted. "That nightgown was the one I picked out for you, you haven't even worn it for me yet."
"Then let's buy more." Jing Rui pulled Chi Jia into her arms, coaxing her, her hand gently caressing Chi Jia's waist, a seductive smile on her face. "I'll wear whatever you want me to wear, how about that?"
Chi Jia's heart raced, her mind filled with explicit images.
"What are you thinking about, that lewd smile on your face?"
