Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 54

Chapter 54

"I'm really tired today, just sleep with me for a bit." Jing Rui looked down at Chi Jia, her face still pale despite the slight flush from their earlier activities.

Her usually bright eyes were now red and swollen, bloodshot, with the lingering traces of tears.

Chi Jia, the stubborn, seemingly heartless girl, had actually cried her eyes out.

When I finally found the courage to love you, you disappeared. That feeling, anyone would be devastated.

Jing Rui knew that these past twenty-plus hours hadn't been easy for Chi Jia, and seeing her like this, Jing Rui's heart ached.

"I won't bother you anymore, just get some rest." Jing Rui moved away from Chi Jia, her gentle voice laced with exhaustion.

Chi Jia glanced at Jing Rui, a look of disbelief on her face.

Ever since they met, Jing Rui had enjoyed teasing Chi Jia, never failing to make her blush and her heart race.

Chi Jia was reluctant to admit that she could be so easily flustered by a woman.

But it was an undeniable truth.

It was past 5 PM.

The sunlight streamed through the window, warm and gentle, illuminating the room, a perfect spring day, the air pleasant and refreshing.

Chi Jia's breathing gradually returned to normal as she calmed down from their passionate encounter. She was too tired to think about anything else, but as they kissed, her hands had unconsciously started wandering…

Their physical intimacy was always effortless, a spark igniting between them from the very beginning.

They were like quicksand to each other, the more they struggled, the deeper they sank.

"I'm going to take a shower."

"Okay."

Chi Jia struggled to get out of bed, feeling slightly dizzy. The emotional rollercoaster of the past twenty-four hours had left her exhausted, she needed to rest.

Jing Rui was also completely drained, barely keeping herself awake. Even talking felt tiring. She lay down on the bed, and within seconds, she was asleep.

The soft bedding, the faint lingering scent of Chi Jia's perfume, Jing Rui felt even more at peace here than in her own bed, perhaps because she knew Chi Jia was with her.

Chi Jia came out of the bathroom after her shower and saw Jing Rui asleep on the bed, the blanket pulled halfway up, covering her waist.

She had fallen asleep in less than ten minutes.

Chi Jia tiptoed to the window and quietly drew the curtains, dimming the room.

With only one bed in the small apartment, Chi Jia had no choice but to lie down next to Jing Rui.

It was still daylight, so the room wasn't completely dark. Chi Jia sat on the edge of the bed, looking at the small scrape on Jing Rui's face.

She had noticed it at the airport earlier.

Remembering her near emotional breakdown at the airport, clinging to Jing Rui, repeatedly saying "I miss you" and "I was so worried"...

Chi Jia touched the back of her neck, feeling slightly embarrassed. Surnamed Jing would definitely tease her about it relentlessly later.

Such a straight nose, and beautiful lips.

Chi Jia's gaze lingered on Jing Rui's face, her thoughts wandering. They said people with thin lips were heartless, and Jing Rui's lips were even thinner than hers.

She had always been prejudiced against Jing Rui. First impressions were indeed important; the first time she saw Jing Rui, she had pegged her as a promiscuous vixen.

Were they… together now? Chi Jia continued staring at Jing Rui's sleeping face, lost in thought.

It seemed that most struggles ended in compromise. After deceiving yourself for so long, you finally understood your true feelings. Like now, Chi Jia knew how much Jing Rui meant to her.

She couldn't bear to let go.

The other side of the bed dipped slightly, the rustling of sheets making Jing Rui open her eyes. Her vision was blurry, but she could see Chi Jia's face beside her. She closed her eyes again, shifted closer, and instinctively pulled Chi Jia into her arms, continuing to sleep.

Chi Jia liked to cuddle something when she slept because she felt insecure. She hadn't expected Jing Rui to be the same.

When she was little, her mother often worked late, leaving her alone at home. Afraid of sleeping alone, she would hug a pillow and hide under the covers.

It had become a habit over time.

"Go to sleep…" Jing Rui murmured, holding Chi Jia close, the feeling comforting and reassuring.

Chi Jia remembered that night, the night she stayed at Jing Rui's place during her period, Jing Rui holding her, taking care of her. Chi Jia admitted she had been cowardly and selfish, wanting to cut ties and run away as soon as she realized her feelings were getting serious.

"Why aren't you sleeping…" Jing Rui mumbled sleepily, feeling Chi Jia shift. "Go to sleep…"

Chi Jia found a more comfortable position, snuggling closer to Jing Rui, her warmth and fragrance more comforting than any pillow.

Now, it seemed that the tighter Jing Rui held her, the more courage she had…

They slept soundly, both exhausted, from evening until the next morning.

Ring, ring, ring—

Early in the morning, Chi Jia's alarm clock blared, not waking her up, but giving Jing Rui a splitting headache.

The alarm had already rung three times.

"Turn off the alarm…" Jing Rui nudged Chi Jia with her foot. "If it rings again… I'm throwing your phone away."

Chi Jia, her face still buried in Jing Rui's embrace, reached blindly for her phone on the nightstand, finally finding it after some fumbling.

One alarm after another, it was already 8:15 AM.

"I have to go to work!"

Jing Rui, still holding Chi Jia, didn't let go. "If you make any more noise, go sleep outside…"

"This is my house!"

Two grumpy morning people together, destined for chaotic mornings.

Unable to stand Chi Jia's loud voice, Jing Rui finally woke up. She opened her eyes, deciding not to argue with the little devil, and said seriously, "Don't go to work today, get some rest, look at your dark circles."

"No, I already took half a day off yesterday, I'll lose my perfect attendance bonus this month…" Chi Jia, now fully awake, was worried about her bonus.

"How much is the bonus? I'll give it to you." Jing Rui lightly pinched Chi Jia's leg. "Staying up late is bad for your health. Don't go to work today, just stay home and rest."

In her line of work, Chi Jia often worked late; it wasn't as serious as Jing Rui made it out to be. She was just a small-time designer, no family connections or privileged background, she was used to hardship.

Chi Jia muttered, "If I don't work, are you going to support me?"

She was about to get out of bed when Jing Rui pulled her back…

"Of course I will." Jing Rui hugged Chi Jia from behind, a seductive smile playing on her lips. "Isn't it a husband's duty to support his wife?"

Chi Jia froze, wanting to laugh but suppressing it, murmuring, "Who's your wife? I haven't agreed to anything…"

Immediately denying it after a night together.

Jing Rui's smile faded. She couldn't see Chi Jia's expression, and she had been rejected by Chi Jia more than once…

Sensing Jing Rui's sudden silence, Chi Jia turned around and saw her dejected expression; she had actually taken the joke seriously.

Chi Jia bit her lip, feeling a pang of guilt, and complained, "…You haven't even properly pursued me."

Qin Dong had been so sincere when he pursued her. Chi Jia thought, if Jing Rui had been like that, she probably wouldn't have been able to resist.

Jing Rui smiled, finally understanding. "Why don't you pursue me then?" she asked.

Miss Chi, still stubborn and unwilling to back down, lifted her chin and said nonchalantly, "If you're not interested, then let's just forget it."

Her feigned indifference was useless now, her true feelings revealed at the airport yesterday.

"Chi Jia!" Jing Rui, exasperated, pulled Chi Jia into a tight embrace and sighed. "You're always giving me such a hard time."

Yet she willingly let herself be tormented.

"Real gentlemen use their words, not their hands… hahaha…" Chi Jia squirmed and giggled as Jing Rui tickled her.

After a moment of playful banter, Jing Rui finally let go of Chi Jia, gently cupping her face in her hands. "I'll pursue you until you're satisfied, how about that?"

Jing Rui's patience with Chi Jia seemed limitless.

The smile still lingering on Chi Jia's face, she looked at Jing Rui. Everyone longed for a pure and beautiful love, Chi Jia included. But how did she and Jing Rui start? Friends with benefits turning into lovers, it didn't sound very romantic…

"You better." Chi Jia smiled, genuinely hoping that she and Jing Rui could put the past behind them and start anew…
