Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 52

Chapter 52

"I'll take off my clothes and let you check properly when we get back, how about that?"

Still flirting even after such a terrifying ordeal, as if nothing had happened… But seeing Jing Rui safe and sound before her, Chi Jia's heart finally settled.

"You're still joking!" Chi Jia glared at Jing Rui, her voice low and sharp, but her heart was filled with joy.

Jing Rui cupped Chi Jia's face in her hands, gazing at her intently, a bright smile on her face.

Chi Jia also looked at her, their eyes locked, the world around them fading away. Jing Rui's smile made Chi Jia's heart flutter. Before, she had simply thought Jing Rui's smile was beautiful, but now, she felt a possessive happiness, because this woman before her, was hers.

Amidst the bustling airport, they stood close, reluctant to separate.

"What are you thinking about?" Seeing Chi Jia lost in thought, Jing Rui gently traced the dark circles under her eyes with her finger, her heart aching.

Chi Jia wrapped her arms around Jing Rui's waist, leaning her head against Jing Rui's shoulder, nuzzling her face against her neck. After a moment of comfortable silence, she murmured, her voice soft but seductive, "Thinking about you..."

Jing Rui smiled, pulling Chi Jia into a warm, affectionate embrace, whispering in her ear, "Me too."

Finally, no more pretense, both of them honest with their feelings. Admitting their mutual affection wasn't that difficult after all.

"Mmm…" Chi Jia closed her eyes, humming softly, a sound of contentment and affection, a long-awaited smile spreading across her face.

Chi Jia rarely acted like this, always thinking such displays of affection were too cheesy, especially in front of Jing Rui, refusing to admit her feelings.

But now, she didn't care about being stubborn anymore. All that mattered was that Jing Rui was safe. Having found her answer, Chi Jia held Jing Rui tight, unwilling to let go.

Jing Rui's embrace tightened around Chi Jia, the feeling of unspoken understanding and mutual affection incredibly comforting.

Outside the airport, the sky was clear and sunny.

Jing Rui had let her driver go, so they had to take a taxi.

"Where to?" the driver asked.

Chi Jia instinctively looked at Jing Rui.

Jing Rui thought for a moment, then smiled. "To her place."

"To my place?"

Jing Rui looked at Chi Jia, leaning closer, her voice soft and slightly coquettish. "Yes, I'm injured, would you really leave me alone?"

She was fine just now, and now she was claiming to be injured. Chi Jia realized that Jing Rui had this childish and clingy side. Usually so arrogant and aloof in public, Chi Jia never imagined Jing Rui could be so… soft and coquettish in private.

After a brief silence.

"Then, let's go to my place." Chi Jia tried to maintain a calm facade, but inwardly, she was overjoyed. Jing Rui主动 suggesting going to her place, she was more than willing.

"You don't seem very happy about it." Jing Rui raised an eyebrow, feigning displeasure.

Chi Jia turned away, looking straight ahead, unable to suppress her smile. "When did I say I wasn't happy about it?"

The sunlight streamed through the car window, warming Chi Jia's cheeks. She closed her eyes slightly, then gave the driver her address.

The car drove at a steady pace.

The gentle breeze, warm and slightly intoxicating, played with Chi Jia's hair. She tucked it behind her ear, her face bare of makeup, looking slightly tired.

Jing Rui kept looking at Chi Jia, a smile playing on her lips. She had never been this happy just to have someone by her side.

Chi Jia, feeling Jing Rui's gaze, looked around, then turned to Jing Rui, their eyes meeting.

They looked at each other for a long moment, then Chi Jia smiled, a genuine, sweet smile.

A radiant smile, a long-awaited sight.

Jing Rui had secretly felt jealous countless times seeing Chi Jia smile at others, she knew she cared too much, but she couldn't help it. Looking at Chi Jia's smile now, she decided that with this innocent little lamb, she would be relentlessly persistent.

Today, Chi Jia could finally look at Jing Rui openly, without hesitation or avoidance. She still couldn't understand how she had fallen for this vixen, she used to dislike her so much…

But at some point, she had become so eager to see her.

They smiled at each other, a silent understanding, the kind of silly grin that came from being with someone you liked.

The warm sunlight made her drowsy. Chi Jia, after a sleepless night, was just as tired as Jing Rui, if not more so. Now, with Jing Rui beside her, she could finally relax and take a nap.

She closed her eyes, drifting off.

Sleeping like a log.

Seeing Chi Jia dozing off, Jing Rui gently guided her head to rest on her shoulder.

After a sleepless night, how could she not be tired? Jing Rui herself had only slept for a few hours that morning, barely keeping herself awake.

Looking down at Chi Jia's tired face, not exactly delicate, but endearing to Jing Rui, she gently kissed Chi Jia's forehead, then took her hand, interlacing their fingers.

Holding hands, a silent declaration of possession.

Chi Jia, half-asleep, opened her eyes after a few minutes, and saw their intertwined hands, her head resting on Jing Rui's shoulder.

"Didn't sleep all night?" Jing Rui asked, turning to gently brush Chi Jia's hair aside, her voice and actions tender and caring.

Chi Jia, comfortable in Jing Rui's embrace, didn't move away, even after waking up. She pouted slightly. "How could I sleep? You said you would be back last night, then you disappeared…"

"I'll make it up to you. The dinner and the gift I owe you, I'll double it." Jing Rui replied without hesitation, her eyes filled with affection as she smiled at Chi Jia.

"Who wants your gift…" Chi Jia lowered her head, unable to say anything more sentimental, but seeing Jing Rui's hand holding hers, the warmth of her palm against hers, a warmth spread through Chi Jia's heart. She didn't say anything, but tightened her grip on Jing Rui's hand, a silent response.

Jing Rui looked down at their intertwined hands, a silent sweetness between them.

The airport was quite far from Chi Jia's apartment. Jing Rui gently guided Chi Jia's head back to her shoulder. "Go back to sleep, I'll wake you when we get there."

"Aren't you tired?" Chi Jia asked, looking at Jing Rui, her heart aching. She should be the one taking care of Jing Rui, but now, she was the one being cared for.

"I am." Jing Rui leaned her head against Chi Jia's, finding comfort in the contact. She closed her eyes and murmured, "So you have to keep me company tonight and make sure I get enough rest."

Chi Jia paused for a moment, then released one of Jing Rui's hands, sat up, and wrapped her arms around Jing Rui's waist, pulling her into a tighter embrace.

Her sudden embrace was a bit clumsy, and Jing Rui, touched and amused, asked, "What's wrong?"

"You scared me to death." Chi Jia repeated, still shaken by the events.

Jing Rui held Chi Jia close, smiling. "If only you were always this proactive."

Hearing her words, Chi Jia buried her face in Jing Rui's embrace, inhaling her familiar fragrance, realizing how much she had come to love this scent.

Jing Rui chuckled softly. "If you like it this much, I'll let you hug me every day."

Chi Jia felt like Jing Rui could always read her mind. She didn't reply, but her arms instinctively tightened around Jing Rui, her actions betraying her feelings.

The weather was good, and the traffic was smooth, so they arrived at Chi Jia's apartment building in half an hour.

21st floor. Chi Jia opened the door; her apartment was, as usual, a mess. Thankfully, it wasn't Jing Rui's first time here, so she was used to it.

"You rest for a bit." Chi Jia cleared a space on the sofa, piling the clothes onto the floor.

Chi Jia was about to get up and pour some water when Jing Rui grabbed her hand. She turned around. "Are you hungry?"

Having eaten something in the morning, Jing Rui wasn't particularly hungry.

"No, just a bit tired." Jing Rui's face was pale, the dark circles under her eyes prominent, the result of severe sleep deprivation. She had been forcing herself to stay awake at the airport, and now, relaxing on the sofa, she could barely keep her eyes open.

Chi Jia, seeing how tired Jing Rui was, and the early hour, said, "I'll get you some pajamas, you can take a shower and rest for a bit."

"Okay…" Jing Rui agreed, then pulled Chi Jia down onto the sofa beside her, leaning in and resting her head against Chi Jia's. "Join me."

Still the same old vixen, constantly seducing her. Looking at Jing Rui so close, Chi Jia's heart fluttered, a sudden urge to kiss her.

Hearing the suggestion of showering together, Chi Jia blushed slightly, her voice awkward. "You're so tired, and you still want to…"

"What are you thinking? I meant lie down with me for a bit." Jing Rui grinned, unable to stop laughing, gently caressing Chi Jia's face. "Can your thoughts about me be a little less dirty?"

"..." Chi Jia was speechless. A vixen telling her to be pure? Wanting to save face, and seeing Jing Rui still laughing, she snapped, "Shut up!"

Seeing Chi Jia's reaction only made Jing Rui laugh harder. "What did I do now?" she asked innocently.

Chi Jia's gaze fell on Jing Rui's soft lips. She suddenly turned and pinned Jing Rui against the back of the sofa, unable to resist any longer, and kissed her.

Frozen in that intimate embrace, they fell silent.

Their eyes met, and Jing Rui's smile gradually faded as she looked at Chi Jia, her lips so close, just a breath away.

Every time they were close, she had held back, but this time, Chi Jia wouldn't. She had rarely taken the initiative to kiss Jing Rui before, each time an impulsive act, never as conscious and deliberate as now.

As Chi Jia closed her eyes, about to kiss Jing Rui, Jing Rui cupped her face in her hands, stopping her.

Chi Jia was stunned, then she heard Jing Rui's soft words, "Kissing me means taking responsibility."
