Invasion - Chapter 13

Chapter 13

Ni Ji thought that he could overcome the difficulty in front of him.

In this lifetime, he had endured through even more difficult situations, gritting his teeth to get through them.

Once, in a contaminated zone, in order to ambush a mutated species with powerful mental strength, he had been lurking on the edge of a swamp for three whole days. The sun had risen and set three times, and he, wearing hot tactical camouflage, had lain motionless in the wet weeds.

There were bloodsucking leeches, giant mosquitoes, and snakes there.

In that kind of environment, he had perfectly sealed off all of his emotions, and had endured those three days without moving. Birds had treated him like a dead branch to rest on, toads sang on his head, and he saw himself as an inanimate object.

Only when that powerful mutated species had relaxed its vigilance and leisurely passed over his head, did he finally get an opportunity to make a powerful strike.

After the mission was over, he had discovered that his legs had rotted from being submerged in the water.

The environment back then was much worse than this ventilation duct.

It was just a small tentacle.

As long as he could endure it for a while, it would leave soon.

Ni Ji closed his eyes, took a deep breath, sealed off all of his emotions, sunk them into the deep sea, and reinforced his mental barrier.

In his mental landscape, the turbulent sea fell into complete silence.

A layer of firm ice sealed the surface of the sea, locking up that slightly uneasy garden at the bottom of the sea.

When he opened his eyes again, he found that there was another tentacle!

Two tentacles were now very close, stopping right in front of him, almost touching his nose, as they stared at him curiously.

He could even clearly see those soft suckers wriggling.

The two little things touched their tips against each other, as if discussing their order. One of them swam toward him.

It was going to climb up.

Ni Ji really wanted to close his eyes. But he couldn’t. In this situation, if he shut off his vision, the emotional fluctuations brought on by touch and hearing would be magnified several times, making it even more difficult to seal off.

He could only watch as the soft appendage slowly approached. The little tip rose up, and bent before poking his face.

He couldn’t move. Ni Ji told himself.

He couldn't be afraid. It was nothing.

It wouldn’t even hurt.

He held his breath and slowed his heart rate as much as possible. His powerful physical fitness as a sentinel allowed him to do all of that. Making him look like an inanimate dead object without any vitality.

After a tentative poke, the wet suckers stuck to the skin of his face and began to crawl up.

It crawled over his eyebrow ridge, the tip burrowed in, and picked off the towel that was covering his hair.

He couldn’t move.

It climbed up, burrowed into his hair, and like he was a child, it patted his head and ruffled his hair.

He couldn’t move. Endure, Ni Ji told himself.

The other tentacle had, without him knowing when, swam to his ankle and, with its icy touch, wrapped around his ankle and began to remove his socks.

It moved tentatively on his instep.

A subtle and hard to capture itchiness traveled through his skin and seeped into his bones, and then made its way all the way into his heart.

In the garden at the bottom of the sea, the seaweeds curled up anxiously.

It was more difficult than being tortured.

In the cold and quiet seabed, the orca, which had transformed into a mental body, opened its closed eyes.

With the stroking of the tentacles, the injured whale let out a soft whale song, a sound of comfort.

It was a soft, “ying,” but it quickly stopped it.

Guides were born to soothe the mental wounds of sentinels. Even a subtle, unconscious touch like that soothed the injured orca, whose tail had been showing its bones.

It felt so good, it wanted to be touched more.

The solitary whale ignored the owner’s wishes and emitted such a thought.

The wounds of a mental body were hard to heal. A sentinel at this time would desire to be close to a guide more than ever.

The tentacle that was buried in his hair seemed to have heard something. It lifted up from his tousled hair.

Just now, it seemed to have heard a very pleasant sound, a mental energy fluctuation, but for some reason it was gone.

It was confused.

It couldn’t understand it.

Call more companions.

Deep in the sea, Ni Ji transformed into a half-human, half-orca, and covered the mouth of his mental body with his hand.

But it was too late. In the dim duct, one tentacle after another popped out, appearing in front of Ni Ji.

They were wriggling their bodies, and were full of curiosity. They surrounded Ni Ji, wanting to try him out.

They all looked like only a small part of their bodies, and they were twisting and turning their small suckers joyfully. They didn’t seem harmful.

But Ni Ji knew very well that, in that invisible space, their bodies that had yet to surface were hidden away, huge and terrifying, and enough to pin him down.

Ni Ji felt cold sweat trickling down his forehead.
