Princess Syndrome - Chapter 19

Chapter 19: Last Night

Chapter 19: Last Night

Su Lingyue didn't understand why the cat would follow her. There were so many houses, how did it accurately find this apartment? Did it smell something and follow her? That would be too amazing! Listening to it meow, she wondered if it was hungry. She put it down softly. "Shhh--"

The black and white cat looked up at her, sitting on the ground. Su Lingyue wanted to give it something to eat, but she couldn't even cook for herself, let alone make cat food. She felt a little defeated. She and the cat on the ground stared at each other. In the end, she decided to go back to her room to change and then bring the cat outside. The cat didn't understand what she meant. It stood up and jumped, brushing past her side, and entered the living room.

Su Lingyue quickly closed the door. Afraid of disturbing Ji Zhiyi, she hadn't turned on the lights. The living room was dim, but she could see the cat's eyes shining. She whispered, "Kitty, kitty..."

The cat ignored her, moving agilely, jumping onto the coffee table, and then jumping into the room behind it. Fortunately, the door to the cloakroom was closed, so the cat went forward, nearing Ji Zhiyi's room. Su Lingyue also slowed down, but she hadn't expected that Ji Zhiyi's door was actually not closed?

Hadn't Zhang Xian said that she hated people entering her room?

Then why didn't she close her door?

The stray cat clearly noticed that too and jumped inside. Su Lingyue's heart was in her mouth, and she cautiously peeked into Ji Zhiyi's room.

It was all dark. The curtains were drawn, so she couldn't see anything. There was only a pair of cat eyes. She didn't move and stared at the cat inside. After standing there for a while, her legs started to ache. In the end, she couldn't help but walk inside.

The cat stood up when it heard movement. When she approached, it jumped to the side.

It seemed like Su Lingyue was playing with it.

Su Lingyue missed and didn't know the layout of the room at all. When she walked forward, she tripped over something. To prevent herself from falling, she stretched her hands out to press on the ground.

It was soft.

It was the bed.

She touched it.

It must be a thin blanket.

There was also a faint fragrance.

Just as Su Lingyue was about to get up, the lights in the room clicked on.

She and Ji Zhiyi, who was sleeping on the bed with her eyes open, looked at each other.

Ji Zhiyi's expression was calm, silently looking at her. The atmosphere was a little awkward. The stray cat, as if it was afraid that they couldn't see it, jumped on the bed and sat between Ji Zhiyi and Su Lingyue.

Su Lingyue, who was just about to explain: ...

Ji Zhiyi asked, "You want to keep a cat?"

Su Lingyue looked at the old-fashioned stray cat. To Ji Zhiyi, wouldn't it seem like this was what she wanted?

She shook her head.

The cat meowed.

As if protesting.

It must be a demon!

Su Lingyue said, "I opened the door, and it was just at the door."

Did she believe that?

Anyway, even she didn't believe it herself.

Ji Zhiyi nodded, lifted the blanket, and got up. Seeing that, Su Lingyue said, "Sorry."

The cat meowed again. Ji Zhiyi said, "There's cat food in the cabinet. Give it some first."

Cat food?

Su Lingyue looked at her curiously, "President Ji also has a cat?"

Ji Zhiyi said, "A friend used to leave their cat here, and they didn't take the cat food."

Su Lingyue nodded, following her out of the room. She saw Ji Zhiyi take a bag of cat food from the cabinet by the kitchen. It hadn't even been opened. She poured a bowl in a ceramic bowl and put it in front of the stray cat. The stray cat was probably too hungry and started munching loudly, making crunching noises.

Ji Zhiyi looked at Su Lingyue.

Noticing her gaze, Su Lingyue said, "I really didn't want to keep it."

She was just here, living under someone else's roof, not knowing when Ji Zhiyi would calm down. How would she be able to take care of a cat? Just thinking about it...

Ji Zhiyi said, "It's thirsty."

Su Lingyue subconsciously walked to the disinfection cabinet in the kitchen, took out a small porcelain bowl, poured in some cold water, and placed it in front of the cat.

Su Lingyue only realized what she did after she was done.

She: ...

There was a moment of silence in the living room. Only the sound of the cat eating cat food loudly could be heard. It would occasionally go to the ceramic bowl and drink, not treating Ji Zhiyi and Su Lingyue as enemies at all. It was totally unguarded.

As a stray cat, it was so unguarded.

Failure!

Su Lingyue scorned it, suppressing her urge to touch it. She curled her fingers and turned to Ji Zhiyi. "President Ji, I'll take it out as soon as it's finished eating."

Ji Zhiyi nodded. "Suit yourself."

Saying that, she returned to her room.

The door was still not closed.

Looking at the light coming from the room, she recalled what she had just glimpsed. Ji Zhiyi's room was very simple, similar to the guest room, but there was a wardrobe and a desk. The desk was by the window, with a computer and files. There were a lot of books too.

Her office wasn't in the study.

Was it in her room?

Su Lingyue was lost in her thoughts. After waiting for a while, the stray cat finished eating. Afraid that it would run around again, Su Lingyue picked it up and walked out. Even though it was a stray cat, it was very clean, and its fur was smooth. The cat was full and allowed Su Lingyue to carry it. It even purred and started falling asleep.

It was so unguarded.

Su Lingyue was actually worried about it.

Unfortunately, the cat didn't feel it. It only felt comfortable and rubbed against Su Lingyue's hand, wanting her to pet it. Su Lingyue wanted to laugh. She petted it while taking it downstairs. She didn't take it to the trash station, thinking that she could feed it when she met it tomorrow night, so she left it in the nearby flower bed.

The cat looked up at her, seemingly aware that she was about to leave, and lay down in front of her.

Su Lingyue was blocked.

She laughed.

It was quite professional at begging.

In the end, she went around the stray cat and returned to the apartment. The living room light was still on. She tidied up the leftover cat food and then returned to her room, tossing and turning in bed, unable to fall asleep.

She still messaged Chu Yi.

Chu Yi was still scrolling through Weibo and saw the message that popped up: [Do you want a gift?]

Chu Yi: [???]

She asked curiously: [What is it?]

Su Lingyue: [A stray cat.]

Chu Yi: [I'm allergic to cat fur.]

Su Lingyue clenched her phone.

Alright, I was planning on bringing the stray cat back.

It seemed that conditions didn't allow it.

Su Lingyue bit her lip, and searched for nearby stray cat rescue stations. This one was no different from just letting the cats go. Dozens of cats lived together, free to roam during the day and had food, but she thought that the stray cat was so small, wouldn't it be bullied if it went there?

No, change to another one.

She opened each website, being attracted to pictures of cats, occasionally clicking on a video, where she could hear them meowing.

A meow.

The voice was clear.

Afraid of disturbing Ji Zhiyi, she didn't turn the volume up, and only listened for a few seconds before closing it.

But she could still hear the meowing.

Huh?

Su Lingyue was stunned.

She subconsciously thought of the stray cat sitting at the door earlier, and this time, she opened the door first, and, sure enough, she heard the stray cat meowing at the door. Su Lingyue quickly opened the door before Ji Zhiyi could wake up.

The stray cat was sitting arrogantly at the door, looking up at her. Its beautiful whiskers were reflecting the light, looking majestic.

How did it get here!

Su Lingyue roared in her heart, but she still gritted her teeth, picked it up, and tiptoed away. Before leaving, she glanced at Ji Zhiyi's room, it was dark, which meant she hadn't been disturbed.

Su Lingyue breathed a sigh of relief and carried the stray cat a little farther away, educating it, "You can't go over there anymore, do you hear me?"

If the apartment manager heard it, they would definitely take it out and abandon it.

The cat looked up, its bright eyes staring at her.

It was about to melt her heart.

Su Lingyue rubbed the cat's head, "I'll bring you food tomorrow."

She said, "Be good."

The cat seemed to understand and sat on the stone steps by the flower bed, not meowing or making a fuss. It was no longer like before, following her everywhere and begging for pets. It was just a little sad. Seeing that, Su Lingyue squatted down and patted its head.

Anyway, she couldn't sleep, so she might as well keep it company for a bit.

Su Lingyue sat by the flower bed. Occasionally, the wind would blow through the grass, making a slight sound. Her face paled.

At this moment, she suddenly thought of when she was little.

When she was little, she would go for walks in the park with her mother. Her mother took a call. She was busy picking small flowers and entered the flower bed. When she looked up, she couldn't see her mother anymore. She didn't dare to move around. She just sat by the flower bed, waiting for her mother to return.

But she never did.

There were fewer and fewer people in the park, until it was quiet.

There was rustling in the grass. Her heart was beating fast. She watched as one patch of grass was flattened, then another. She was terrified, until a frog jumped out. She started crying.

She cried until her voice was hoarse.

But no one saw her.

She didn't dare to leave, didn't dare to move, afraid that her mother wouldn't be able to find her.

She just sat by the frog for the entire night.

She later found out that her mother was in a car accident.

She had thought it was because of her, she was self-blaming and pained. But her mother, when she woke up, found that the call was from her father, saying that he wouldn't be coming home that night. While they were talking, her mother and father argued. When she hung up, she wanted to go back and find her. Then, she saw her father standing on the other side of the street, holding hands with another woman. She wanted to rush over.

Then, there was a car accident.

After that, she especially hated being by the flower beds at night.

But tonight.

Was an exception.

Su Lingyue rubbed the cat's head, listening to its purrs, she felt very calm. She couldn't help but nuzzle her head against the cat's. The fur was soft, and her expression was gentle.

Perhaps once Ji Zhiyi had calmed down and she had moved out from here, she could rent a place alone.

And keep a cat.

And it would be this one.

Her ideal was perfect. She laughed at her own fantasy when she heard footsteps behind her. Su Lingyue turned her head and saw a figure approaching. She looked up.

Ji Zhiyi was standing in front of her wearing her pajamas.

The streetlights behind her were like a moon. The light shone on her, and Su Lingyue narrowed her eyes. Then, she snapped back to reality. She stood up, forcing a smile. "President Ji, why did you come?"

Ji Zhiyi's expression was indifferent. "I came to see what Assistant Su was doing."

Su Lingyue said, "I--" She glanced at the cat. "I was taking the cat out."

Ji Zhiyi asked, "Taking it out until now?"

Su Lingyue was speechless.

Ji Zhiyi was still looking at her.

She surrendered. "President Ji, let's go back to sleep."

The words Ji Zhiyi wanted to say got stuck in her throat. She lowered her head, her face feeling a little hot. The two of them went back inside the house again. This time, Su Lingyue looked back seriously. The stray cat didn't follow her. She relaxed and went into the apartment with Ji Zhiyi. They returned to their own rooms.

After hearing the cat meow two times, she lay down. She even started hallucinating and thought she heard the cat meowing again.

She focused, and then the sound was gone. She pulled the blanket over her head. She was probably too tired from all the fuss that night, she was really sleepy, and she fell asleep. She even dreamed that she changed houses and took the cat home with her. The next day, she was woken up by her alarm, still feeling a little confused. She hesitated for a few seconds before turning off the alarm, climbed up and got up. After washing up and getting dressed, she opened her bedroom door.

She immediately saw the stray cat eating cat food on the coffee table.

And Ji Zhiyi was sitting on the sofa, looking at her tablet.

She was dumbfounded and forgot to react.

It was Ji Zhiyi who turned her head when she heard her voice.

She said nonchalantly, "Morning."

Su Lingyue was startled and snapped back to reality. "Morning."

She looked at the coffee table. "This cat..."

Ji Zhiyi looked at her, asking suspiciously, "Didn't you let it in last night?"

Su Lingyue blinked.

Ah???
