S-Class Dungeon’s Mistress - Chapter 215
Chapter 215
"Really?"
Lisianthus's gaze slowly turned towards Adelaide. Their eyes met in a breath-stopping tension.
"Do you really have no lingering attachments?"
A fierce flame burned hotly within her clear eyes. The heat radiating from her gaze seemed ready to devour him at any moment.
Adelaide stared at him without blinking. The always composed and resolute look in his eyes was no longer visible. Only a mere imitation of composure remained in its place.
When he didn't respond, she spat out words burning with intensity.
"Really, is it okay for our days together, our peaceful and enjoyable moments, your precious life to end like this?"
Her gaze seemed to scream, "Say no right now."
For a brief moment, Lisianthus hesitated. Despite having gathered his resolve, it seemed he hadn't fully settled everything. He blamed his foolish self and slowly smiled.
"Yes. It's fine."
The moment the words left his mouth, a fist flew.
Pweoook!
A dull sound echoed through the dungeon. Simultaneously, gasps were heard here and there. Even Lupinus, always stoic, opened his eyes wide in surprise.
Lisianthus let out a small groan after being unexpectedly punched in the solar plexus. He could have dodged but chose not to. And it was more painful than he'd anticipated. Apparently, quite a bit of force had been used.
He looked at the perpetrator with shocked eyes. Adelaide was simply brushing off her hand.
With a cold expression, she tilted her head and said, "If you're lying, you should be punished."
Somehow, the content felt familiar. These were words he had often said while spanking her during their intimate encounter.
He hadn't expected to hear those words in such a moment. Lisianthus muttered with a helpless expression. Adelaide, angry that he was trying to die, had punched him. Even now, she was incredibly cute and lovable.
However, he couldn't let this pass so easily. Regrettably, he needed to reaffirm his decision.
"Adel, I―"
"No. You can't go."
But before he could finish speaking, Adelaide blocked him. With her arms crossed and chin raised, she looked incredibly resolute.
"You can't go. That's an order from your master."
Lisianthus let out a short laugh. Though she was cute, speaking so firmly while mentioning her role as master, she was as always, vulnerable.
In this situation, how could he possibly follow her command? Especially when her safety was at stake.
Moreover, he was the strongest demon here. If he wanted, he could disappear at any moment. He could even knock everyone unconscious and leave.
How could she manage Greenville after he left if she was this vulnerable? Lisianthus pondered with a worried expression.
But Adelaide was much smarter than he thought.
"If Lisian disobeys my order and goes to the Demon King's castle..."
And much more ruthless.
"I'll find Agapanthus and tell him. That I love Lisian so much. That I've been hiding his true identity while knowing it. I'll do anything, so please spare Lisian's life. Then he'll probably try to kill me."
Adelaide took a step closer to him and smiled softly. It was a bright smile, but the poison in her eyes was anything but gentle.
As her words continued, Lisianthus's face quickly turned pale. Finally, unable to bear it, he raised his voice urgently.
"Adel!"
"Did you think only your life could be at risk?"
With a shrug, her words made Lisianthus's face twist grotesquely. She had precisely pinpointed the thing he feared most. No threat could be more horrific than this.
As terrible images filled his mind, Lisianthus clenched his fist strongly. Red droplets of blood trickled down his palm.
Seeing this, Adelaide furrowed her brow and continued.
"Are you scared, Lisian? Does it feel like your heart is dropping, your throat burning? That's exactly the emotion I felt."
"Adel, I understand, but the situation right now is...!"
"I always keep my word. So don't even think about doing something strange."
She cut off his words and firmly laid down her threat. Then she turned her head towards Caladium and Lupinus.
"Caladi, Lupin. Don't you dare try to stop me or be persuaded by Lisian. Guard him so he can't leave. Or you'll regret it."
"You damn girl! How dare you threaten with your own life? I wasn't going to let him go anyway, so stop talking like that!"
Caladium frowned and got angry. Knowing how much he cherished her, such a threat was unbearable. He couldn't help but speak harshly.
Lupinus also nodded with a displeased expression. Then he glanced at the pale Lisianthus and asked,
"So, where should we lock this guy up?"
"Here's your food!"
Through a slightly open door crack, a hand pushed in, placing steaming soup and bread, and a fresh-looking salad on the floor. While not as good as what Lisianthus would make, the food looked reasonably appetizing.
And the prisoner in his own room, Lisianthus, stared at the food with an utterly bewildered expression. More precisely, he was glaring fiercely at Caladium who delivered it.
Following Lupinus's suggestion, Lisianthus was indeed imprisoned. Without Adelaide's permission, he couldn't leave the room, and Caladium and Lupinus took turns standing guard.
Though they provided timely meals and even added books and instruments to keep him occupied, ensuring his confinement wasn't too uncomfortable... he couldn't just stay like this.
"Caladium."
"Where does a prisoner get off talking? Stop babbling and eat the pumpkin soup and carrot salad I made!"
Lisianthus frustratedly pressed his forehead. That firebird seemed to be thoroughly enjoying this prisoner and guard game.
Conversing with such a fool would normally be beneath him, but unfortunately, he had no other options right now. So he suppressed the irritation rising to his throat and squeezed out a gentle voice.
"If things continue like this, Adel will be in danger. You know that too. This war with the Demon King's castle is completely different from previous ones."
Knocking out Caladium and escaping wouldn't be difficult. However, after hearing such threats from Adelaide, his best strategy now was to persuade Caladium and Lupinus to prevent her from taking dangerous actions.
"Don't get carried away by your current enthusiasm. Look at reality. If you truly love her, are you planning to put her in danger?"
"Ugh, I’m so damn stupid I can't understand a word you're saying. What am I supposed to do?"
But Caladium was too juvenile to be persuaded. Juvenile and ignorant.
At his provocative response, Lisianthus closed his eyes tightly. He was a fool for attempting to dialogue with such a beast.
"To put it kindly, I made one decision when returning to Greenville."
Caladium giggled while watching his face through the door crack.
"I'll follow everything Adela says. Even if it differs from my own thoughts, I'll make anything she wants happen. That's my love."
So don't try to persuade me, it's futile. He added with a smile.
Lisianthus continued to maintain his silence. However, his expression was quite different from moments before.
After imprisoning Lisianthus, Adelaide had been so busy that she didn't even have the leisure to look at his face.
There was so much to send off, so much to prepare. Since she had resolved not to let Lisianthus go, her future was already determined.
The war with the Demon King's castle. The moment of rebellion was not far off.
"Travel carefully. Did you remember to take the emergency funds?"
"Heuup, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Lady Adelaide...!"
"Sorry for what. I'm the one who should apologize."
Adelaide smiled bitterly, gently embracing the healers working with Pia. They cried, saying they were truly grateful. Then, guided by Lupinus, they headed towards the secret back path they had set up.
They might have been the last. The dungeon was now empty. Adelaide sat on the sofa, looking desolate.
Numerous affiliates had terminated their contracts with Greenville. Cooks, healers, musicians, dwarves... Those with whom she had created joyful memories departed with sad faces.
It couldn't be helped. She had decided to wage war against the Demon King solely to save Lisianthus. She couldn't let those who didn't want to be labeled as rebels.
Therefore, Adelaide secretly sent away her demon subordinates. Providing emergency funds so they could live well, hidden from the Demon King's eyes. Those leaving wept profusely, apologized, and dragged their heavy footsteps.
It wasn't just her subordinate demons whose contracts were terminated. She immediately notified her dungeon branches of contract cancellations. She didn't reveal that she was preparing a rebellion, only stating that contracts were being terminated to prevent them from being implicated with the Demon King's castle. The responses hadn't come yet, but most seemed to understand.
However, one did not accept it. None other than Penelope.
Penelope, shocked by the sudden notification, immediately came to Greenville. But Adelaide avoided meeting her with various excuses.
Her closest friend was an incredibly perceptive demon. If they met face-to-face, she would surely see through everything.
'And she'll probably want to help. Even knowing it would damage the alliance.'
Penelope would definitely do that. Or she'd resign from her leadership position and recklessly jump in to help her alone. That's the kind of friend she was.
Whatever her opinion, Adelaide didn't want to involve her. She knew her decision wasn't much different from Lisianthus's, but she couldn't help it. When it comes to protecting a loved one, one tends to be unreasonable.
"Lupin, any response from Eligos?"
"No, not yet."
Lupinus slowly shook his head. The response wasn't unexpected. It was such a reckless and dangerous endeavor.
She had made a request to Eligos, asking them to help defeat the Demon King and create a new demon realm. Since Cael also harbored significant resentment towards the current Demon King and his system, she thought they might cooperate.
But it seemed this wasn't something easily decided.
'The answer should come tomorrow.'
Adelaide let out a small sigh, staring blankly at the living room. In her view, a black dog was running around panting happily. A skeleton was chasing it, demanding its shin be returned.
