LWGP - Chapter 127
Chapter 127: Mist Town
When Wang Jiu selected the dungeon as the team leader, Wang Shu and the others received a system notification.
"You are about to enter Mist Town, a level 30, four-difficulty comprehensive dungeon. This is a restricted, medium-sized joint dungeon. We hope you enjoy the game."
After receiving this information, they entered the dungeon, and then... the entire group was poisoned and dropped dead.
What the hell? They were instantly killed the moment they entered the dungeon.
Even Wang Jiu died. Her Exemption had just been used, and its cooldown wasn't over. The toxin was irresistible, so she fell too.
Then, the entire group got back up.
Wang Jiu was looking at the items in her inventory. She was surprised because unlocking the entire Green-Eyed Golden Line Eagle had only yielded one item.
It was a skill book.
Bloodweep Blade, a blade-type critical damage skill that grants a second state to the blade body. It wasn't an advanced skill, but a special one.
"Requires 1000 permanent Spirit to learn, but each use consumes 1000 Mana. If a physical blade attack breaks armor and causes the target to bleed, the blade's energy can enter the body and execute a portion of their HP. The execution percentage is based on the proportion of physical damage dealt."
It consumed a lot of Mana, but its prestige was high—it was a Bloodthirsty skill.
System: "It's not a high-level Bloodthirsty skill, but it's a true permanent skill. Your luck isn't bad."
Jason had previously possessed a means to execute HP, but it wasn't a true permanent skill.
"It seems to be resentment born from its unwillingness to be slain by an Eternal Night descender. This skill doesn't seem to be its own ability, but rather the blade art of that Eternal Night descender."
Wang Jiu learned it immediately and looked up at the others. She had invited many people at once, at least thirty for a team, but it was a last-minute invitation. Many people were busy, and not everyone could make it, especially at a moment's notice. Very few could come right away.
Exactly eight people came, forming a team of ten: Wang Shu, Qiao Xuejing, Dao Dao, Liao Luo, Mei Qingshu, Qi Shuanghan, Mei Qinghe, and Xie Lu.
The people who came weren't very surprising, except for Qi Shuanghan.
The latter, accustomed to playing diplomatic angles, said, "I imagine Jiang Ming and Leng Rong aren't as pragmatic as I am. What do you think, Lord Lao Wang?" Wang Jiu glanced at him and chuckled lightly, neither confirming nor denying it.
Qi Shuanghan appeared calm on the surface, but he was inwardly relieved.
At first, he was surprised that Wang Jiu had invited him, but when he saw the previous team list of over thirty people, he realized he'd been overthinking it.
He figured that in Wang Jiu's eyes, there was probably no difference between any of them. As long as their strength was sufficient, anyone could come.
Jiang Ming and Leng Rong had other ideas, and Qi Shuanghan had long seen some fishy business. Bian Moshu had connections in high places, but they weren't part of Qi Shuanghan's network. Once Bian Moshu died, Nightless Territory lost its channel of communication with the higher-ups. After thinking it over, Qi Shuanghan decided to cling tightly to his current thigh.
Besides, Bian Moshu wasn't a good person anyway, and he'd been quite happy following him before.
But that was his thinking; who knew what Wang Jiu's attitude was.
So, Qi Shuanghan subtly threw shade at Jiang Ming and Leng Rong to highlight his own loyalty.
Having just respawned, the group didn't have time to ask Wang Jiu what she had encountered earlier. Since they were already in the dungeon, the dungeon was the priority.
"Four-difficulty comprehensive? Medium-sized joint? Restricted? Does that mean all four difficulties are in one dungeon, so we don't have to exit and re-enter? And this medium-sized joint thing, does that mean there are many teams? And there are restrictions..."
As they talked, they also observed their surroundings.
Uh? This didn't look like some game monster's lair or habitat. It looked more like a very ordinary human world.
It was currently around dusk. There was fog all around, and visibility was very low. It was an outdoor environment, but not a wilderness—it was a place of fields.
Wang Jiu and her team had appeared on a small path. To their right was a stretch of mountain forest, and to their left were cultivated fields with crisscrossing paths, all arranged in an orderly fashion. They could even see the lush green leaves of crops in the fields.
But this pastoral land didn't seem particularly beautiful or charming. On the contrary, because a place with such clear signs of civilization was completely deserted, it felt desolate and eerie.
Generally speaking, people who ran dungeons with Wang Jiu went to one of two extremes: either they were carried to victory and became useless, or they had their worldviews broadened and became cunning. Which path they took depended on whether they had any self-awareness and if their own willpower was strong enough.
It was hard to say for the others, but Xie Lu was absolutely resolute. He looked around and said, "The fog is getting thicker. It must be an environmental condition that will definitely affect us."
Wang Jiu hadn't yet felt any specific effects, but... she suddenly heard a strange sound.
Gurgle... gurgle... hic!
Everyone turned to look at Wang Shu. He sheepishly clutched his stomach. "I think... the effect of this fog might be to make people hungry." Dao Dao showed him no mercy, taunting, "What the hell? First time I've seen someone's stomach hiccup when they're hungry."
Though she was mocking him, she was about to take out some food for Wang Shu—an egg pancake left over from yesterday's territory battle. But... Dao Dao's expression suddenly froze. She exchanged a quick glance with Wang Shu.
"We're screwed! The inventory won't open!!"
What? Wang Jiu and the others also tried and confirmed it, feeling exceptionally alarmed.
Was this the so-called restriction?
"If the inventory won't open, then we can't use any food or consumables."
"It seems we can only put things in, not take them out."
Mei Qingshu frowned. "I think I'm hungry too."
She was straightforward and didn't have the burden of maintaining a "beautiful woman" image, so she said it directly.
But she received a chorus of agreement—they all felt hungry, as well as tired and weak.
"Could the fog be accelerating our stamina consumption? Then finding food is also one of the objectives," Qiao Xuejing said, looking around. Visibility was now next to zero; they couldn't see anything in the distance.
If they couldn't find a village, they would starve to death.
"Split into two groups. One group will check the boundaries of this area and gather information on this normal difficulty."
"The other group will look for food. The two groups can't be more than eight hundred meters apart. Stay in contact through the team channel."
After Wang Jiu spoke, she and Qiao Xuejing, who could coordinate with her using traps, were responsible for surveying the boundary. The rest trailed behind, searching for food.
About fifteen minutes later, Wang Jiu and Qiao Xuejing, who were in the lead, stopped in front of a wall of fog.
"It's a total of five kilometers from here to the dungeon entrance where we started, but we passed this spot five minutes ago."
This meant it was a maze-like environment where they couldn't get a sense of the boundaries. But even Wang Jiu hadn't realized they were retracing their steps, which indicated that it was a closed loop, with the fog blocking everything.
Staring at the bottomless, dark, foggy world ahead, Wang Jiu pondered for a moment and decided to turn back to find Wang Shu and the others. She, too, was finding the stamina drain hard to bear.
They had only traveled five kilometers, but it felt like they had climbed a hundred mountains.
When Wang Jiu and Qiao Xuejing returned, they saw Xie Lu monitoring the surroundings while the others were... digging up sweet potatoes in the field!
Their grunting and snorting made them look like a herd of wild boars rooting in the earth.
When Wang Jiu and Qiao Xuejing came back, Wang Shu was overjoyed. He said gleefully, "Master, the sweet potatoes here are so big and plump! They look like the Red Peony variety. They must be delicious."
He was happy, but Mei Qingshu threw cold water on his excitement. "Don't forget, we don't have any survival tools."
Only then did Wang Shu realize, and the others frowned as well.
So how were they supposed to eat them?
"We can strike two blades together to create sparks, then use tree bark or highly flammable grass shavings. After a few tries, we should be able to start a fire. I'll handle it. You guys keep digging." Xie Lu had ample wilderness survival experience. He was about to go to the forest to gather some firewood. Mei Qingshu, who wasn't good at digging sweet potatoes, joined him. As she, Xie Lu, Wang Jiu, and Qiao Xuejing were gathering firewood by the edge of the woods, Wang Jiu suddenly stopped and said in the team channel, "Everyone, stop what you're doing."
Although surprised, the others sensed that something must have happened and fell silent.
Wang Shu and Mei Qinghe froze, their butts in the air, hands still clawing at the dirt, completely motionless.
At that moment, Wang Jiu's attention shifted toward the woods. She had just heard a strange sound.
She wasn't the only one who heard it. Now that everyone had stopped moving, a faint sound from the woods became audible. Mei Qingshu and Xie Lu definitely heard it.
A shovel? Someone was shoveling dirt.
Right inside the woods.
Just as Wang Jiu was about to go in and take a look, she suddenly heard a scream.
It came from inside. Alarmed, everyone immediately abandoned the sweet potatoes and followed Wang Jiu into the woods. Soon, they saw a young man running out in a sorry state. He was sallow and emaciated, his clothes covered in dirt and dust, and he was running for his life. But he wasn't fast enough. In the woods behind him, a group of bizarre-looking creatures was chasing him. The fastest one leaped down from a tree, tackled the young man, and opened its mouth. It had the head of a chicken but a lizard-like tongue, which shot out, aiming to drill into the young man's eyeball.
Bang!
A Flowing Light flew over and blew its head off.
"What kind of monster is this? It's so ugly! Like some kind of chimera."
The group looked and found the small monsters to be very strange, giving them a very uncomfortable feeling.
Wang Jiu used Insight.
Mutated Monster (Simple Field Mob, Bronze, Level 30)
Strength: 120
Agility: 140
Stamina: 100
When Wang Jiu reported the mob's stats, everyone had a strong reaction.
Wang Shu was extremely frustrated. "My average stats just barely passed 400. Ten of these things could chew me to pieces."
Actually, he was being modest. With his Arcane Sprite, he could take on twenty of them if he kept his distance.
The prerequisite was not letting them get close.
This wave of mobs numbered at least three or four hundred.
"More than that. There are more coming from inside. They're signaling each other. A mini-boss will probably arrive soon."
"Don't spread out. Focus fire. We don't have much stamina left."
Wang Jiu's group arrived and unleashed their firepower, wiping out the first wave of mobs. The young man was stunned, watching from the side with his heart pounding. He kept thanking them, but no one paid him any mind; they communicated through the team channel.
"Without any AoE skills, this is too slow."
In reality, they were already clearing them quickly. After all, the team was strong. Xie Lu's average stats had already surpassed 2000, and Mei Qingshu was approaching 2000. Qiao Xuejing, Qi Shuanghan, and Mei Qinghe were all over 1000, while Liao Luo, Wang Shu, and Dao Dao were in the 400-800 range.
In terms of progress speed, Liao Luo was the fastest, having already reached 800, but his name was also extremely red.
But regardless of their progress or strength, no one in the group had an AoE skill.
"Why do I feel like AoE skills are even harder to get than critical damage skills?" Mei Qingshu loved to fight, and her skills flowed together smoothly. She had chosen the archer path but had never managed to get an AoE skill better than Triple Shot.
Without AoE, fighting mobs was exhausting, which was one of the main reasons the Rat Tide was so terrifying.
Of course, others were even worse off than her.
Mei Qinghe rolled his eyes. "As if you have a critical damage skill."
Having been dissed by her own brother, Mei Qingshu couldn't spare a hand to deal with him. She just sneered and asked Wang Jiu, "How many in the next wave, and how long until they arrive?"
"500, in three minutes. We're changing locations. Head for that slope, or we won't be able to handle them."
Because their stamina was draining rapidly, at a rate more than ten times faster than usual.
Having to fight while ravenously hungry was a terrible feeling.
The group sped up to finish off the last few dozen monsters, then quickly ran to a nearby slope that had some elevation.
The melee fighters, Liao Luo and Xie Lu, blocked the path. The others stood at the top, shooting arrows and throwing Flowing Lights or fireballs, while Qiao Xuejing quickly set up traps behind them.
Just as they reached the top of the slope, a dense swarm of mutated monsters ran out of the woods. There were many of them, but because the path up the slope was only wide enough for two, they had to squeeze together to charge at Xie Lu. With ranged attacks from behind, the pressure on the team was greatly reduced.
"The boss is coming out." Without AoE skills, even someone with superior stats like Wang Jiu didn't have much of an advantage in a group fight. However, her Insight proved to be extremely useful.
Mei Qingshu, at her side, saw her frown. "Is it strong?"
"No, there are many."
Many bosses?
The group was stunned.
The two waves of mobs already numbered over a thousand. What did "many bosses" even mean?
They soon found out the answer.
Ten human-sized Silver bosses, all of them enlarged versions of the mutated monsters.
Chicken head, lizard tongue, dog body, pig tail—weren't they just chimeras? They also emitted a nauseating stench as they roared and charged out of the forest.
Their average stats were all over a thousand, and they were very fast. The narrow path couldn't stop them; in fact, it made it easy for Xie Lu and Liao Luo to get trapped. The two had to retreat up the slope. As soon as they did, the ten Silver bosses viciously pursued them. But the first four shrieked and plunged into traps. Seeing this, the remaining six also shrieked, and fleshy wings on the sides of their dog-like bodies suddenly unfurled. They took off from the ground and flew up to the ten-meter-high platform where Wang Jiu's team was.
As these six bosses shot up, Wang Jiu killed two before they even landed. She then used a Spirit Tentacle to drag another one away. All three were instantly killed with critical hits from Blood Wrath.
Aside from Xie Lu and Mei Qingshu, who were each fighting a Silver boss alone, everyone else ran to the traps to surround and kill the four caught inside. The last one was torn apart by Bai Bai's claws.
Four of them. She had single-handedly and effortlessly taken down four Silver mini-bosses.
Xie Lu couldn't help but ask in a private message, "A critical damage issue?"
In truth, having stats slightly higher than a Silver boss didn't guarantee a clean kill. Bosses were different from players. With the same stats, it was easier to fight three players than one boss. The reason was simple: the HP pool.
To easily one-shot a boss with a critical hit, one generally had to meet one of three conditions.
1. Stats more than double the boss's.
2. High-end skills.
3. Overpowered items.
Wang Jiu met two of these conditions. Within the second condition, critical damage and debuff-type status skills were the most direct.
"Yeah."
"Impressive," Xie Lu said with great admiration.
Wang Jiu herself had a 30% critical damage bonus, and the Blood Wrath skill had a 50% critical damage effect on attacks. With this amplification, instantly killing Silver mini-bosses with average stats of 1500 was a piece of cake; she didn't even need to use other skills.
But after the fight, her expression turned grim. This time it wasn't related to blood loss—she hadn't used much blood. It was just... her stamina was gone.
Except for Wang Jiu and Qiao Xuejing, everyone else unlocked the bosses they had killed. Bai Bai swallowed its Silver boss whole. Wang Jiu looked at it and said, "After you're done swallowing, tell me the results of your digestion."
Bai Bai: "?"
Wang Jiu: "All the mobs here are mutated, and it's related to this fog. I suspect there might be toxins in these monsters' mutated bodies. I'll have to rely on your feedback to know how strong they are."
Bai Bai: "Why didn't you say so earlier?"
Wang Jiu: "If I had, you wouldn't have eaten it. So of course I didn't."
The cute little fox's expression turned into a bitter scowl. Not daring to curse at Wang Jiu, it could only try to stick its paw down its throat.
Retch~~
Clutching her stomach, the very hungry Wang Jiu frowned. "I feel like my stomach is about to perforate. This dungeon is kind of disgusting."
It was only the simple difficulty, yet the restrictions were so severe. This was too much.
If she was like this, the others weren't much better off. Every one of them looked pale and sickly.
"My benefactors, you must be hungry."
The young man, having seen them efficiently dispatch the wave of monsters, was full of admiration and asked solicitously.
"What, you have food?" Wang Shu, who was bent over unlocking a corpse, became interested. The mobs dropped loot automatically, but the bosses had to be unlocked manually.
The young man shook his head awkwardly. But when he saw Wang Jiu about to head toward the mountains, he grew anxious. "Don't go over there, miss, don't! Those woods are very dangerous. You must not go in."
"You don't want your shovel anymore?" Wang Jiu asked good-naturedly.
"No, I don't want it! My life is more important, of course!"
"You don't want it, but I do."
"???"
The native was dumbfounded. Seeing Wang Jiu determined to go into the woods, he made the excuse that he was afraid of danger and turned to leave.
But Liao Luo pressed a blade to his neck and forced him into the woods. Only Xie Lu stayed behind to protect Wang Shu as he unlocked the bosses. The others, having finished unlocking their own bosses, all entered the woods, since it was the lair of the simple-difficulty bosses and they might find something good.
They hadn't even reached the depths of the woods when the stench grew stronger. Not only could Wang Jiu see them, but even Mei Qingshu noticed footprints on the ground. She glanced back at the young man. What was he doing running in here with a shovel?
Could a native not know it was dangerous here? From the way he tried to stop Wang Jiu just now, he clearly knew.
Wang Jiu had already found his shovel. When he encountered those monsters earlier, he had hastily dropped it and fled. Next to the shovel was a partially dug pit.
"What were you digging a pit for?" Mei Qingshu found the young man very strange. They had finished off the bosses, but there was no system notification that they had cleared the simple difficulty. Perhaps there was something fishy about this native.
Did even the simple difficulty have to be this complicated?
"I... I was hungry. I came to find something to eat."
The reason was plausible.
But Wang Jiu dug away a large patch of dirt with the shovel. After two or three scoops, a smell wafted up. Before they could even see what was underneath, a thought occurred to everyone—a corpse?
Sure enough, the face of a young woman was revealed. It was lifelike, and she looked very young and beautiful.
Qi Shuanghan looked at the young man, his gaze sharp. "You have such heavy tastes? You eat corpses?"
"No, no, no, I don't!" The young man's face was ashen. He stammered, "This is my sister. She was hastily buried here by our family... Ah!"
Wang Jiu stabbed him in the thigh. The young man screamed and fell, but a Holy Light descended, and the wound on his leg healed.
"Don't go around claiming random sisters."
"Answer my next questions properly."
The young man clutched his healed thigh, his face filled with terror.
"Who is the deceased? When did she die? What's her relationship to you?"
"Cai Lingling. She died half a month ago. No relation, she just lived on the street next to mine." "Why did she die?"
"It's the curse! The curse of our Mist Town!"
A curse. The group exchanged glances. Could the main storyline of this dungeon be fantasy-based?
Wang Jiu had the young man explain the curse.
It turned out that a strange fog had appeared in Mist Town ten years ago. At the time, many people thought it was due to the climate, but they eventually discovered that it never dissipated. After a few days, many people began to feel extremely unwell—tired, weak, and endlessly hungry. Later, the entire town fell into a terrifying, morbid state. No one was spared. People constantly succumbed to the fog's curse, either starving to death or dying from exhaustion.
"If you say it's a curse, there must be someone who cast it, right?"
"It was old Mr. Zhang Shen, the dean of the pathology research institute. He's a devil!" The young man's face was filled with resentment and pain. "He was a heretic of science and a destroyer of humanity! For his research, he captured children from our town for experiments. He was eventually investigated by the police, and while the whole town was trying to catch him, he fled into the crematorium and was burned to death... But he resented the people of our town, so he laid down a curse. It's been ten years, and no one has been spared. We can't escape either, because under the cover of the fog, no one can leave this town."
The group vaguely felt that this dungeon might be different from the island dungeon. The latter was a competitive hunting style, while this one seemed to have a plot.
It had the flavor of an American horror TV show.
While the others were pondering the dungeon's plot, Wang Jiu remained unmoved by the town's story. Instead, she asked, "You still haven't said why you came to dig up this corpse."
"I liked her. I couldn't bear to let her lie here all alone."
The young man's eyes were red, and he looked somewhat timid and sad.
"Do you smoke?"
"Huh?"
The young man was stunned. Just then, Xie Lu came in with Wang Shu, holding something in his hand. He handed it to the young man. "You don't smell of smoke, but you dropped a lighter when you fell just now. Sneaking out in the middle of the night to a dangerous forest to dig up a corpse, and you bring a lighter... And if this corpse really has been dead for half a month, given the soil conditions here, it should be severely decomposed. Either she died less than three days ago and you're lying, or there's something special about this corpse, and you came specifically for it."
"So, tell us, what's with this corpse..."
Before Xie Lu could finish, the young man suddenly slid a small vial of potion from his sleeve and was about to throw it on the ground. Liao Luo's blade flashed, severing his arm and snatching the vial.
"A potion? There are high-end items like this?" Wang Shu had just put some of the unlocked resources into the team inventory and was now looking at the vial curiously.
"Did this kid steal it?"
Wang Jiu glanced at the young man. "No, he probably concocted it himself. Don't underestimate him. If Mist Town has been steeped in this fog curse for ten years, then anyone who has survived for a decade must have a few tricks up their sleeve. You're a staff member at the research institute—the pathology research institute, I mean."
When this person mentioned Zhang Shen, his tone held a subconscious reverence.
It suggested they were likely from the same system.
Begging Wang Jiu to save him with Holy Light, the pained young man had no choice but to confess his secret. "I did indeed come for the corpse. And she did die half a month ago. The reason she was able to hold on until now before dying is because her constitution was special; she had a certain resistance. You don't know, but the only people still alive now are either from our research institute or people who have some antibodies in their system."
Dao Dao was surprised. "So you were going to steal the body to take it back for research?"
"Yes, I..."
Bang!
The young man was suddenly headshot by one of Wang Jiu's Flowing Lights.
Everyone: "!"
System: "..."
It seemed a bit familiar, like that unlucky dean from the pioneer instance.
"He was lying?" Xie Lu was sharp. Qiao Xuejing also realized it. "He wasn't digging up the corpse to...?"
"When I scouted the area earlier, I didn't see any vehicles nearby. His stamina is poor. If he came here to take the corpse away, that's unreasonable. It means he planned to dispose of the body on the spot. Bringing a lighter implies it has something to do with fire. Just now, when we were fighting the monsters, he hid behind me to protect himself. He's afraid of death, so he'll offer verbal thanks, and when we talked about retreating to the slope, he ran faster than a rabbit. Why would someone like that risk coming here to dig up a corpse? No emotional reason is believable. I think it's for personal gain—perhaps he believed this corpse could save his life."
Wang Jiu didn't say it outright, but she had already implied it.
Fire, disposing of a corpse—there were only two purposes.
Either burn the body, or... eat it!
Everyone's scalp tingled. Only Xie Lu remained calm. He glanced at Cai Lingling's corpse, thinking. "This woman's face is full, not like someone suffering from the fog curse's hunger. Either she had ample food during this time, or she truly resisted the fog's effects and had normal consumption. Could eating her grant resistance to its effects? Such an abnormal conclusion doesn't seem like a researcher's absurd judgment, so..."
"It's very likely the research institute itself has conducted research in this area and reached a conclusion. That's why he risked coming here to dig up the corpse, wanting to eat it to change his own situation."
Qiao Xuejing followed the analysis to this point but subconsciously looked at Wang Jiu. Since she had figured this out, why did Wang Jiu kill him instead of interrogating him further?
Was it simply because she was angered by his inhuman desire to eat a corpse?
But Wang Jiu stood up, looking around with a blank expression. "The fog is closing in on this area. If there really is a curse, then these natives are the most dangerous concentrations of fog!"
To her, the young man was no longer useful. Letting him go would be a future liability. Of course, killing him was the cleanest solution.
Everyone's expression changed drastically. Only then did they realize they did indeed feel very uncomfortable, as if utterly exhausted. Even breathing had become difficult.
"We'll leave after searching deeper inside."
Wang Jiu casually used the shovel to cover the pit with dirt again, then kicked the young man's corpse far away. Afterward, she led the group into the woods to search the mutated monsters' lair.
As they left, the group looked back and saw the fog was indeed gathering around the young man's corpse at a visible speed.
But for some reason, it ignored the pit where Cai Lingling was buried, probably because it was covered by soil.
Meanwhile, Wang Jiu and the others saw the rewards in the team channel. The items weren't bad, consistent with the drop level of Silver bosses. But for them, whose average stats had already surpassed one, two, or even three thousand, these items no longer provided the huge boosts they once did—especially for someone of Wang Jiu's level.
However, the group discussed that they could collect some Silver equipment. The set from this dungeon was bound to be better than previous ones.
Nine of the ten bosses were unlocked, yielding 26 Silver items, but they couldn't complete a set. Since they couldn't take them out of their inventory anyway, they could only leave them for now.
"It would be great if this lair had some stamina-restoring items." The group found the monsters' foul-smelling lair. It was a grassy den in the woods, filled with a pile of human skeletons.
There was a pile of miscellaneous items, many daily human necessities, and some backpacks. It seemed that some people had tried to escape the town in the past but were hunted by the mutated monsters for food.
Wang Jiu had always left treasure hunting to Wang Shu. She herself went over to the pile of skeletons to examine them.
"The bone structure is normal, no mutations. So it affects the flesh and internal organs?" Wang Jiu muttered, pondering the truth of Mist Town's curse, when she suddenly heard Wang Shu exclaim in pleasant surprise.
"Holy crap! Something good!"
The group was startled. Did he find a treasure?!!
But then they saw the fatty pull a pot out of the trash heap.
Uh, that actually was a good thing, the famished group thought.
Fortunately, they soon found five class skill books in various corners.
Arrow Rain, Holy Light, Blind, Stealth Stab, and Explosive Trap. Oho, all of them were usable. Wang Jiu learned Blind directly. Holy Light was tossed into her personal inventory; since it was needed now, she didn't put it in the team inventory to be distributed based on participation, otherwise it couldn't be used in this dungeon.
Arrow Rain was especially useful as an AoE skill. Mei Qingshu got it and said to the others, "I'll compensate everyone after we get out. Thank you."
Those who received resources would calculate their value later, but Wang Jiu never got involved in such matters. After distributing the skill books, the group left the woods. With a pot and a lighter, and a stream nearby, they saved time and were soon eating hot, boiled sweet potatoes.
They felt much more comfortable after eating their fill, but they were still puzzled by one thing—they had killed the bosses and cleared out the lair, so why hadn't the system announced that the fog blockade was lifted?
This dungeon was very strange.
Wang Shu, ever practical, suggested they stock up on some food. Since they had the backpacks from the den, it would be safer to carry some sweet potatoes with them.
No one objected. While they still had the energy, they dug up sweet potatoes together. As they were gathering them up at the end, Wang Shu suddenly muttered, "Why is this sweet potato so soft? Is it rotten? Who dug this one up?"
As he spoke, he pulled it out.
Amidst the earthy smell, it carried a faint stench of a corpse.
In the darkness, by the light of the moon, the group saw a severed arm. It had no hand—it was a section of forearm, cut off at both ends.
In the dead silence, everyone's gaze drifted to the sweet potato field beside them, to the small pits they had dug, wondering what lay buried underneath.
The sweet potato leaves were thick and lush, and each sweet potato was plump, sweet, and mouth-watering.
Except for Wang Jiu and Bai Bai, everyone else felt their stomachs churn.
Retch~~
So far, there was finally a dungeon whose opening experience surpassed that of the manure truck explosion dungeon.
It had reset their mental state.
