Chapter 145
After Tang Qiu finished dealing with the vampires outside, she entered the manor and found Erin, who was inspecting the powder inside the castle with Vera.
Vera was extremely familiar with the manor's layout and had helped Erin evade the vampires' searches several times.
Tang Qiu was slightly taken aback when she saw Vera, surprised to find her here and even more surprised by the harmonious way she and Erin were getting along.
She had crossed paths with Vera many times; the woman was a Black Witch through and through.
Seeing the subtle look in Tang Qiu's eyes as she watched Vera, Erin quickly stepped forward to explain, "She's my friend. She only helped Glanna because she was under her influence. She's actually very good to me."
Vera turned to look at Erin, her gaze earnest and focused.
She and Vera had grown up together. Vera was the only one who didn't discriminate against her, didn't mock her, and even tried to correct her flawed beliefs. Later, it was also Vera who helped her leave Witch City.
Although they had many disagreements, Erin had always believed in their friendship. Just as Vera had helped her by luring the vampires away moments ago, she now had to explain to Tang Qiu that Vera was not their enemy.
Time was short, and Tang Qiu had no intention of probing Vera's motives. She glanced around and asked, "Is all the powder spread?"
Erin nodded. "Just about."
"Good. Once I rescue Beverly's brother, you can notify Lucille." Just as Tang Qiu was about to search for where Beverly's brother was being held, she turned around, suddenly remembering something. She turned to Vera and asked, "Do you know where the vampires Evan captured are being kept?"
Erin also turned to look at Vera, awaiting her answer.
Seeing Erin looking at her, Vera spoke up. "I know." She then turned to lead the way for them.
The captured vampires were all imprisoned in another castle. Vera led them to the dungeon entrance and said in a low voice, "Many vampires are locked up in here."
Tang Qiu strode into the dungeon. On both sides, numerous vampires were sitting or lying down, chains wrapped around their wrists and ankles. When they saw Tang Qiu and the others enter, they opened their eyes. Realizing they weren't Tzimisce clan vampires, expressions of confusion and curiosity flickered across their faces.
At the very back of the dungeon, Byron was the first to jump up, shouting, "Who are you? Tell that old bastard Evan to come out and see if my sister doesn't beat him to death."
Tang Qiu glanced at him, then turned to the nearest vampire and asked in a low voice, "Where is Byron Scott?"
The vampire didn't speak, but he turned his head to look at the silver-haired vampire who had just jumped up.
Tang Qiu nodded in understanding. She softly chanted a spell, and light elements began to gather in front of her.
The chained vampires' expressions changed at the sight of the light elements, and they all rose to their feet to dodge. However, the white light that flew toward them only severed the chains that bound them.
The sudden freedom left the vampires stunned for a moment. Tang Qiu didn't have time for lengthy explanations, only offering a kind reminder, "If you don't want to die, get far away from here. The farther, the better."
As she spoke, she walked toward Byron. Byron rubbed his wrists and asked quizzically, "Why? Where's Evan?"
"Your sister is waiting for you outside." Tang Qiu gave Erin a look. "You can notify Lucille now."
Erin nodded. She summoned a skeleton mouse, then softly chanted a spell to guide it away.
Byron watched Tang Qiu warily. "Are you from the Holy See?"
Tang Qiu didn't answer, instead tossing him a teleportation scroll. "Leave this place," she said coolly. With that, she led Erin and Vera out of the dungeon.
Byron watched their departing figures, hesitated for a moment, then unfurled the scroll. The aura on that woman was too powerful, even more terrifying than his sister's.
After leaving the dungeon, Erin and Vera also unfurled their scrolls and left ahead of time. Tang Qiu looked up to observe the manor's structure, then made her way to the roof of the tallest castle. She took out her staff and began to prepare a light magic spell.
The skeleton mouse Erin summoned headed straight for the Mentos Desert with a clear purpose. It moved with incredible speed, bursting out of the ground a short while later and following Lucille's scent to her feet.
Lucille, who was falling back to regroup, spotted the skeleton mouse at once. Her eyes flickered, and she turned and headed in the direction of Rose Manor.
Her sudden departure stunned both Evan and Beverly. Evan sent Beverly flying with a palm strike. Thinking Lucille was trying to escape, he immediately gave chase.
There was no reason to let prey that had delivered itself to his doorstep escape. Evan looked at the figure ahead and sneered.
Beverly clutched her chest and let out a muffled cough. As expected, confronting a third-generation vampire head-on was difficult, especially since she had borne the brunt of the attacks.
After Evan and Lucille left, the Brujah and Tzimisce vampires also ceased fighting. Beverly looked in the direction Lucille had gone, frowning. She gave her clansmen a look and said in a deep voice, "After them."
Lucille didn't seem like the type to flee secretly, and her little lover hadn't appeared yet, which filled Beverly with suspicion.
She wanted to see what these people were planning.
Lucille led Evan to Rose Manor. The corpses littering the ground outside put Evan on high alert. He raised a hand to summon his Blood Domain, and the thick red mist condensed into a giant hand that pressed down on Lucille. Unable to dodge in time, Lucille was struck by the hand and sent flying into a wall.
Her chest felt heavy, and blood rose in her throat. Clutching her nearly immobile arm, Lucille looked up at Evan with a cold expression.
Evan walked toward her step by step, deliberately slowing his pace to exert more pressure on Lucille. He sneered, "The game is over. Did you think you could kill me just by bringing the Brujah vampires?"
"How naive. The gap between a third-generation and a fourth-generation vampire isn't something that can be closed by numbers alone."
A cold gust of wind from behind made Evan pause. He frowned and turned, and a white shadow flashed before his eyes. A sudden pain shot through his shoulder as his arm was pierced by sharp claws and torn right off.
Evan retreated nimbly. He glanced at his now-bare shoulder, rage surging from within. He gritted his teeth and said, "A werewolf..."
He stared coldly at the white-haired werewolf standing in front of Lucille. His arm had already regenerated, but the new limb felt a bit stiff, which greatly displeased Evan.
Tang Qiu tossed the severed arm aside, wiped the blood from her hands, and gave Evan a slight nod, offering a polite greeting. "Long time no see, Elder Evan."
"It's you." Evan sized Tang Qiu up, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You're Faye's daughter."
Delphine had once told him about Tang Qiu's identity.
She had clearly never "acknowledged" Faye, so why did so many people know about her relationship with her? Tang Qiu shook her head with a wry smile and corrected him, "My name is Grace."
Evan sneered. "I don't care who you are. Get out of the way."
Tang Qiu didn't move. Instead, she took a step forward and said softly, "Speaking of which, I've never fought a third-generation vampire before."
"I'm looking forward to it."
Evan's face darkened. Across from him, Tang Qiu had already launched her attack. After unsealing her power, Tang Qiu's strength and speed had risen to another level, and her body was more coordinated, free from the occasional stiffness she used to feel.
The impact from the battle between Tang Qiu and Evan blew the roof right off the castle. When Beverly and the others arrived at the manor, they saw the two figures from a distance. She narrowed her eyes. Just as she was about to send her people to search the manor for her brother, Lucille suddenly appeared beside her, clutching her arm.
Although most of Evan's attention was on Tang Qiu, he still kept a sliver of focus on Lucille. Seeing her about to flee, he subconsciously moved to pursue her, but Tang Qiu seized the moment of his distraction, her sharp claws tearing open his neck.
Evan was thoroughly enraged. He touched his neck and shot toward Tang Qiu like a bolt of lightning.
This werewolf's strength was beyond his expectations, and she was incredibly difficult to deal with.
With Evan firmly tied down by Tang Qiu, Lucille stared at the two figures, who were moving so fast they were almost blurs. She turned to Beverly and said in a deep voice, "Go."
Beverly was taken aback. "What?"
Knowing that Tang Qiu had arranged everything, Lucille clutched her arm and turned to leave the manor. "Go quickly, or it'll be too late."
Beverly found this baffling. She glanced at Tang Qiu, who was still fighting Evan, then back at Lucille. As she hesitated, Lucille turned back and said coldly, "Go."
Her expression was grave; she didn't look like she was joking.
Beverly exchanged a look with the vampires around her and silently followed Lucille out.
When the Tzimisce vampires saw them leaving, they flashed over to block their path. Lucille, along with Beverly and the others, was once again entangled at the manor's exit.
Tang Qiu had been keeping an eye on Lucille's group. Seeing them blocked, she frowned slightly. The longer this dragged on, the more disadvantageous it would be for them.
Lucille understood this as well. She lowered her hand and looked at Beverly, signaling that they had to force their way out.
They outnumbered the Tzimisce vampires, so breaking through wouldn't be difficult.
Lucille's grave expression made Beverly take the situation seriously. She gave a look to the vampires beside her and then raised her hand to summon her own Blood Domain.
"Do you think she can escape?" Evan glanced toward Lucille's group and snorted. "I'll capture her after I kill you."
"As the hybrid I created, I am the one who gave her life. She should obediently let me do as I please."
"Once I figure out how to break through the bloodline limit, if I'm in a good mood, I might even let her live."
"But if she keeps testing my patience like this, I'll drain her of her blood and let her die as weakly as a human."
Evan's words made Tang Qiu's expression slowly turn cold. She stopped fighting, let out a low laugh, and said indifferently, "You have no right to control her life or death."
"Oh?" Evan spread his hands. "And what if I can?"
"Then I'll kill you."
Evan looked as if he had just heard a joke. "You?"
Tang Qiu's lips curved slightly, but there was no trace of a smile in her eyes. "Actually, I brought you a gift this time. I hope you'll enjoy it." As she spoke, a white light suddenly appeared around her. Her body elongated, and a three-meter-tall white wolf appeared in her place.
The castle was too small for the white wolf to move freely. It threw its head back and howled, then smashed through the walls that were obstructing it. It shook its head, baring its sharp fangs. Its sky-blue eyes locked onto Evan, and killing intent erupted.
Evan cursed under his breath. A cold wind swept toward him, and he dodged just in time. In the next second, the white wolf was where he had just been standing. Its sharp claws scraped against the ground, instantly cracking the earth open.
This detestable werewolf race truly shouldn't exist, Evan thought, gritting his teeth in hatred.
