LWGP - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: Mini-Boss
Wang Jiu kicked Wang Peng, who was dawdling and trying to leave with Xiao Li. Wang Peng was sent stumbling out into the aisle. Looking back, he saw the change in the vortex and screamed in fright. Seeing an old couple ahead, he didn't hesitate to yell at two other pale-faced guys to carry the two elders and run. He shouted, "Ladies, Ah Li, run!!"
Wang Jiu and Xiao Li were at the back, already heading out. The chief purser had let a few flight attendants go first, staying a step behind. She seemed to be feeling unwell and her pace was a bit slow. It was likely that the earlier collision had injured her waist. She had been toughing it out, but she couldn't hold on any longer.
"Hey, you!" The chief purser was lifted up before she could even react.
The tall and sturdy Xiao Li charged out, carrying her.
Wang Jiu, on the other hand, pulled the woman who had also injured her waist but was still gritting her teeth and holding her child. With one hand, Wang Jiu also picked up the child. Just as everyone exited the cabin, a terrifying roar echoed from behind them.
It was here!
The passengers' panicked disembarkation had already attracted the attention of the medical personnel waiting at the airport, as well as the airport staff, and...
"Retreat, retreat, everyone retreat."
The special forces were commanding the scene, not even allowing medical personnel to linger, all to ensure the passengers evacuated as quickly as possible. Seeing the soldiers with real guns, the crowd didn't dare cause a fuss. The disembarking passengers were all obedient and quickly got off the plane, but they also answered the soldiers' questions.
"There are people behind us, still more people! They saved us, they're still up there!"
A few passengers were particularly concerned about this, repeatedly emphasizing it to the troops. The soldiers understood and sent two men up the stairs. Just as they were about to check the situation inside, they saw Wang Peng and the others rush out, followed by Xiao Li... Wang Jiu was the last one, but she was the fastest, already on the platform of the aircraft stairs. Seeing the two special forces soldiers coming up, she said urgently, "It's here!"
It? The special forces had been briefed and knew that a special creature had appeared on the plane. Although they were initially surprised and skeptical, soldiers backed by the state followed orders. The lives of the people came first. Moreover, being part of a state department, they knew more and already had some speculations about the changes in the world. Of course, they didn't dare to make rash judgments. They immediately began helping the other passengers down the stairs, but they had only taken two steps.
BOOM!!
About a third of the way down the plane's fuselage, the wall of the aircraft where the vortex had been was split open with a large gash, and that section of the fuselage was twisted.
"A monster, it's a monster!"
"The monster is back!"
"Run!"
Panic erupted in the crowd. The special forces immediately tried to raise their weapons and lock onto that section to attack, but before they could aim their guns, BOOM!!
The terrifying monster inside had struck a second time.
This second blow directly blasted a large hole in the aircraft wall. Then, it tore it open with one hand, revealing its true form.
It wasn't exactly its true form—half of it was still in the vortex. The vortex was expanding but couldn't break through the aircraft's body due to height restrictions. So its two hands came out first, and of course, the axe in its hands.
The arms were nearly two meters long, and the axe was about a meter in length. The body of the axe seemed to be made of iron, thick and heavy, with a sharp blade.
Its strength was immense. It used the axe to directly split open the aircraft body. With unlimited space, the vortex expanded rapidly, and it could finally struggle its whole body out.
However... the plane broke.
Because it was too fat and too heavy.
It fell, taking the vortex with it. Bang, a loud crash.
Everyone: "..."
Suddenly, they didn't seem so scared anymore.
Because the fuselage broke, the stairs also swayed, looking like they would fall with the nose of the plane. The others scrambled down the stairs in a panic. Wang Jiu was at the very back, which was very dangerous, but with a light step, she was on the railing. Then, to the gasps of the mother and daughter, she jumped down.
The stairs were nearly ten meters high. An ordinary person would find it difficult to withstand a jump from such a height, let alone while carrying a mother and daughter.
However... Wang Jiu's current Agility was 3, which was already the human limit. But to be safe, she still raised her Agility from 3+1 to 4.
It wasn't just for jumping off the stairs, but also for the large monster that had appeared.
Amid a chorus of gasps, she finally landed. A slight bend of her knees stabilized her body. She then put the two down and handed them over to the personnel who had rushed over, only to hear a wave of screams.
Looking back, her eyes flickered.
The fuselage hadn't actually fallen, just teetered precariously. The monster's clumsy landing had seemed comical, but no one expected that before they could react, it would scramble up from the ground and charge out with ferocious speed. In just a second or two, it rushed to the front and swung its axe... The two special forces soldiers at the very front were sent flying, their bodies dismembered. One of their corpses flew towards Wang Jiu, landing two or three meters in front of her, splattering blood everywhere. But the gun in his hand also flew out, seemingly about to fly even farther.
But as the crowd scattered in terror, someone leaped up lightly and intercepted it with one hand.
The heavy firearm landed in her hand, but Wang Jiu weighed it as if it were a toy gun. She didn't move immediately, instead standing there with the gun, observing.
Xiao Li and the others had already gotten off the stairs but hadn't had time to flee yet. The sound of special forces frantically firing their Type 81 assault rifles at the monster filled their ears.
In front of the wrecked fuselage, the monster that had landed and charged out now revealed its full form. It was over three meters tall, very fat and heavy, with a burly build. Its skin was rough and warty, deep green in color, and its thick arms wore iron bracers. Compared to its body, its head was very small.
It brandished its terrifying axe, charging around wildly. The passengers and other airport staff were already scattering in fear. Only a few who had disembarked later and had mobility issues couldn't escape quickly. But at the forefront were inevitably the special forces. They were firing their rifles at the monster with high intensity. Logically, an ordinary creature of flesh and blood couldn't withstand rifle bullets, but it...
Wang Jiu saw the dense volley of bullets hit the fat goblin's body. Its rough, warty skin dented under the impact of the bullets, but soon, they popped back out, clattering to the ground.
This skin was so damn bouncy!
The special forces were shocked, and so was Xiao Li. The skin of the smaller goblins before could be pierced with knives and daggers, but this one was bulletproof?
Wang Jiu's reaction was a level above Xiao Li's. She had already started using the System to investigate its information.
System: "Current monster's level is higher than yours. Information cannot be retrieved."
Wang Jiu: "Oh, so it's probably a level 2 grey monster? If that's right, just tell me its name. I don't need the specific details."
Currently, the goblins that had appeared in this Wilderness Invasion instance were all around the same level, belonging to the level 1 grey monster category. No level 2s had appeared yet. Any program has its processes and order, just like a normal game where the difference in level and strength of spawned monsters isn't too excessive.
For example, in the previous Tutorial Instance, the lethality increased from the murderer to the gunman. The bronze Mutated Python was a monster that didn't have to be faced, like an optional bonus question. This showed that this game followed a certain order.
However, in most games, you could see the monster's basic information, like a character bar above its head. But this one was a bit of a rip-off, since it wasn't a virtual game after all.
System: "Goblin Mini-Boss. That is its monster name."
This was just a very low-level monster, so naturally, it didn't have a unique name. But for the current world and for humanity in its novice phase, it was terrifying.
Bulletproof at level 2? That was a bit much.
The special forces had already started their third round of firing and were continuously increasing their range. Because it was rampaging everywhere, they didn't dare let it get close. The two comrades killed earlier were a tragic example.
"Sir, the target monster's skin is bulletproof! We can't kill it, we can't kill it!"
They reported the situation to their superiors while continuing to fire.
At this moment, in the airport's control tower, the circular floor-to-ceiling windows on the top floor offered an unobstructed view of the entire airport. But to see more clearly, the commander used binoculars. When he saw for himself that the monster was bulletproof, and the vortex not far away, he was dumbfounded.
What... what was happening to this world?
"It seems we'll have to have the military command deploy more lethal weaponry."
But would they be in time?
He had no choice but to inform the higher-ups at the capital airport, to conduct an emergency evacuation and internal lockdown. It would be best to contain the monster at the airport and wait for a higher-tier combat unit from the military to arrive.
He could only hope that the current casualties and losses could be minimized.
Regardless of how the officials were coordinating the entire situation from a big-picture perspective, Wang Jiu, on the tarmac, was in no hurry to retreat with the crowd. It was probably because she had a gun in her hand that the airport staff subconsciously overlooked her, only having time to urge the other ordinary people to leave, including Xiao Li and his group.
When Xiao Li saw that the mini-boss was bulletproof, and also learned from the System that the monster was higher than level 1, he really didn't have the courage to seek death. So he planned to take the chief purser and the others and leave on the small bus that had arrived. But he suddenly saw Wang Jiu still standing in front of the corpse, a gun in her left hand and a shortsword in her right. Her dagger was probably stored in her inventory.
He didn't know what she was observing, just standing there without moving.
"Little sister, little sister, let's go!"
The small bus was parked not far behind Wang Jiu. Xiao Li and the others ran over, wanting to take Wang Jiu with them.
But just as Wang Peng shouted "little sister" a couple of times, he saw the little sister stab the shortsword in her right hand into the ground. Then she raised the gun. She didn't seem very proficient with it, studying it for a moment before figuring out how to operate it correctly.
I really wasn't flirting, you're going to kill me for this?!
Wang Peng jumped in fright and heard a gunshot. A bullet whizzed past...
Of course, it wasn't aimed at him. He subconsciously turned his head and saw that the bullet had hit the large monster, and sure enough, it bounced off.
"It's no use, let's go!" Xiao Li placed the chief purser in front of the vehicle and shouted to Wang Jiu. But Wang Jiu didn't listen. She just fired again, constantly changing her angle of attack. Because the monster was also constantly chasing the special forces, she could shoot many parts of its body without moving.
The special forces group had spread out, using their fire to control its movements and prevent it from reaching crowded areas. Was she trying to help them?
Xiao Li suddenly understood something—no, it seemed like she was testing something. She must have discovered something.
