LWGP - Chapter 18
Chapter 18: Forced Landing
Fuck! The wind is so strong!
Wang Peng was dragged into the control room by Wang Jiu, against the wind yet with the momentum. If not for her sufficient Strength and Agility, they would have crashed to their deaths one way or another.
The latter was a decisive and ruthless sort. As soon as she entered the control room, her gaze swept over one pilot slumped unconscious over the control panel and another collapsed in his seat. The second one was fine, but the first had sharp glass shards embedded in his neck and head, with blood gurgling out.
She frowned, directly moved the pilot from the main seat, and pushed Wang Peng down into it.
At that moment, they both saw the plane continuously tilting downwards, losing altitude... A fierce wind blasted them, making their cheeks sting, but in their line of sight, they could see a massive flock of black birds far above.
All living creatures? So that's another dungeon.
A dungeon targeting these birds.
Wang Jiu sighed inwardly—she must not have visited a temple to pray in centuries. Her luck was just too rotten.
Wang Peng wasn't a game player and had no idea what those things were, nor did he pay attention to anything else. He just buried his head, staring at the control panel, and soon roared, "The main pilot must have accidentally hit the descent procedure button here... otherwise, the plane would have activated its automatic flight mode."
Wang Jiu smiled. Her slender, soft, white, blood-stained fingers landed on Wang Peng's neck. She leaned in slightly, close to his ear, and whispered with fragrant breath, "My dear little brother, what's the use in telling me that? You're here to make it fly up, not to let it drop and become a bomber, you know."
The wind outside was strong, howling, but he still heard her words clearly.
Fuck, sister, you can't just force me into this! I'm just... a rookie!
And stay away from me!
Wang Peng had seen Wang Jiu slaughter those goblins, so he didn't dare think this pretty lady was flirting with him. Yet, he still succumbed to that damned male lust and vanity—he blushed.
So he gritted his teeth and began pressing a few keys on the control panel with his chubby fingers. The plane trembled, and it seemed the wings were changing.
His eyes lit up. He gripped the control stick and pushed the throttle...
"Lao Mao, Immortal Zhang, Instructor Chen... bless me, bless me!! Even though I snuck out to play games every day, I never failed a single class!"
He muttered on and on. Perhaps only he knew who he was calling out to, but they undoubtedly gave him strength.
As the plane flew upwards, it also drew closer and closer to the snow-capped mountain ahead. Every second felt like they were about to collide!
"1, 2, 3, go!"
Wang Jiu heard his gritted-teeth roar and the sound of the plane breaking through the air as it flew over the mountain. She watched as her view climbed higher and higher along the mountain's elevation, and finally...
Whoosh!
It burst past the height of the summit, climbing up, and up!
"Sis, Sis, we made it out!!"
Wang Peng's eyes were filled with tears.
Wang Jiu was just about to pat his shoulder in encouragement when she saw him roar again, "I-I-I don't know what to do next!"
Wang Jiu: "?"
Wang Peng cried as he yelled, "I dropped out halfway through!!! My mom wouldn't let me continue!"
Aerospace engineering is so hard to get into and has such a promising future, and she wouldn't let you attend after you got in? Does your mom want to ascend to the heavens herself?
But considering this kid's background attributes seemed to be that of a second or third-generation heir, she understood.
Seeing his emotions welling up, getting lost in the pain of his mother making him drop out, Wang Jiu decisively gripped his shoulder. "Do you know how to engage autopilot? Fly back first."
Huh, right, there's that!
With red eyes and a runny nose, Wang Peng immediately got busy. Wang Jiu turned to look back into the cabin and saw that two more goblins had emerged from the vortex. It seemed the frequency and number of monster spawns had decreased.
Is the dungeon about to end?
Wang Jiu retracted her gaze, watching the plane fly above the clouds. The land below was a vast expanse.
Thousands of miles of mountains and rivers, a safe and prosperous country?
Not necessarily.
She recalled Nie Qin mentioning that the capital's signal towers had indeed malfunctioned but that the country had already repaired them. He had connections in the government and knew about the problem discovered during the repairs—the signal tower equipment had been destroyed for no apparent reason.
The programs crashed on their own.
Was this an accident?
Civilization... it seems it has already begun to crumble.
She silently repeated this word in her mind, her gaze stretching out infinitely.
They were already within the capital's airspace. She turned her head to look at the two pilots beside her, their life or death uncertain. In the end, she didn't stay idle and started to get busy.
She quickly confirmed that the pilot in the main driver's seat was already dead, beyond saving, but the other one seemed to still have a chance.
Wang Peng was drenched in sweat, but when his gaze fell upon Wang Jiu administering emergency treatment to one of the pilots, telling the Chief Purser to get the first-aid kit, and instructing her on how to care for the security officer, he was stunned for a moment. He suddenly understood something and took a deep breath.
He could do it. He had to do it.
The airport had long been prepared, but they had already lost contact with the aircraft and had no idea that the pilot of the rapidly approaching plane high above was struggling with one thing.
"I'm not very good at forced landings!"
Wang Jiu: "You weren't very good at ascending either, but you had to be."
The breadth and depth of the Chinese language, so full of meaning. Did you get it?
Wang Peng received no comfort or encouragement from Wang Jiu, only coercion behind a charming and intelligent facade that was practically a hand around his neck. He was miserable and had no way out, so he could only rack his brain to remember.
Finally, he summoned his courage and began to operate the controls...
Perhaps the benefit of never having failed a class was showing. Even Wang Jiu was a little surprised. She glanced at Wang Peng. To still remember this knowledge so many years after dropping out, he was either a natural talent or he had never been able to let it go in his heart.
The plane began to descend.
The control tower and air traffic control had actually been worried the plane had entered autopilot mode. If that were the case, the plane would just circle endlessly in the sky after reaching its destination, the airport, and then crash after running out of fuel.
Thankfully, it was descending.
It was just that this descent looked somewhat unprofessional and unreliable.
"Maybe the pilot isn't in good condition."
They thought to themselves and silently prayed for the pilot.
Then, five minutes later...
"It's overweight! It's going to be over speed!"
"What do we do? We can't contact them!"
"Keep hailing!"
"Hailing..."
Hailing was useless. It was already coming down in this rather unprofessional, rookie-level landing pattern.
The commander of the Capital FH Airport control tower remained calm despite the repeated alerts from his staff, making only the most professional judgment: "There must be a problem with the pilot. The person flying it now is likely not the pilot himself. If that's the case, we can only do our best with ground preparations. Clear the runway, all other aircraft are to stand by... and then pray for luck."
"Also, are all departments in position?"
"In position. The military has already sent people to the scene..."
"I hope the situation isn't too bad."
The commander pressed the bridge of his nose, but his eyes quickly locked back onto the visible silhouette of Flight CU8266.
At this time, inside the plane, with some other passengers also mustering the courage to stand up and take up arms, Xiao Li and the others had already joined forces to kill two goblins.
Then they braced themselves for the plane's descent... Earlier, the Chief Purser and other flight attendants had already begun rescuing people under Wang Jiu's guidance.
There were so, so many injured people.
But whether there would be even more terrifying casualties, they didn't know. They could only wait.
"God, looking at this rate of descent, why do I feel like we're going to explode on landing?"
"That kid didn't learn to fly a bomber, did he?"
"It's good enough that we have someone who can fly a plane! Let's pray to the Buddha and Guanyin for protection!"
"Honey, I hid my secret stash in the toilet tank!!"
The passengers cried out in a mix of despair and hope, or remained silent. For the first time, they felt so close to home, yet so far away.
Because in the past, whenever they landed here, most of them had family or friends waiting. That was the destination of life's journey, a sense of belonging. But this time, could they still find that belonging?
The plane lowered its wheels. The wheels touched the runway... A massive jolt!
The luggage slammed around with a loud clatter again, along with screams from the passenger area of the cabin.
Wang Jiu was now sitting in the co-pilot's seat, feeling the intense vibrations. She could even hear the plane's wheels, after the initial jolt, begin to scrape violently against the ground...
"I can't brake, I can't brake, sister!"
At first glance, it sounded like the brakes on a car failing. In that case, you could risk jumping out, but this was a plane.
If it couldn't stop, even if not all hundred-plus people died, at least half would.
Wang Peng wanted to cry again. He kept pushing the reverse thrust lever, but the excess speed from being overweight was too severe. The wheels were already creating intense sparks as they scraped against the ground, and the tires were completely worn away.
The end of the runway ahead was getting closer and closer.
"We're done for, we're done for, we're going to run off!" Wang Peng howled in his cracking, adolescent voice, which suddenly cut off because a cool, soft hand covered his own thick, short one, helping him push the lever with force.
The entire fuselage pressed down, shedding force, decelerating...
Ssssss!!!
BOOM!!
The entire rear left wheel exploded. The fuselage wobbled. For a moment, Wang Jiu almost thought the entire plane would lose its balance and slide upside down, but... it didn't!
She quickly looked back and saw that, by chance, many of the goblin corpses were piled up in the right-side area, and even the passengers were mostly distributed on the right. To some extent, this might have affected the plane's center of gravity. It was definitely a coincidence, but a very beautiful one.
She was stunned for a moment, then she smiled.
Fortune after misfortune?
Wang Peng heard the scraping sound from under the plane as if it were right next to his ear. The speed finally slowed, and just as it was about to run off the runway, it gradually came to a stop.
He was stunned, his hands and legs trembling. After a moment, he turned to Wang Jiu with a runny nose and cried, "Fuck, a wheel exploded and the plane still didn't flip, I'm so fucking awesome! Sis, we survived, right? Sis... what are you looking at?"
Why can't you praise me! I even praised myself to give you a hint!
Wang Jiu was looking through the broken doorway at the vortex, which still existed amidst the chaos of the straight aisle.
The color of the vortex's opening had changed. Was it about to disappear?
Wang Jiu was suspicious by nature and never approached things with an optimistic mindset. So she directly grabbed Wang Peng by the collar. "Out, let's go!"
As for the two pilots, they could only be left here for now—if the situation was good, medical personnel would come aboard. If the situation was bad, she wasn't confident she could escape with them.
Wang Peng's legs were still a bit weak, but he was stunned as she dragged him out again.
However he was dragged in, that's how he was dragged out.
In any case, he stumbled out of the control room after Wang Jiu. Before he could be met with the cheers and heroic applause of the crowd, he saw Wang Jiu let go of him, casually pick up a goblin corpse, and walk quickly towards the vortex. She then pressed its head directly into the vortex's opening.
In an instant, the goblin's entire head was like a pig's head going into a meat grinder. In the blink of an eye, it was shredded to pieces!
The spray of blood and brain matter was...
A shocking sight.
Wang Peng was dumbfounded. The Chief Purser, Xiao Li, and the others, still shaken from their narrow escape, were also startled. As they watched in confusion, they saw Wang Jiu's expression turn slightly grave. She tossed the mangled corpse aside and quickly said to the Chief Purser, "Arrange for everyone to deplane immediately. Don't wait for procedures."
Xiao Li had a sudden realization—this wilderness invasion dungeon's exit was one-way. They couldn't enter it, but it still possessed immense power. This meant the dungeon wasn't over at all. It had been brewing for so long and had even changed color. An accident was probably about to happen, like more or stronger goblins were about to come out!
The Chief Purser was in her thirties, had life experience, and was very sharp. Seeing the look in Wang Jiu's eyes and her expression, she sensed something was wrong. But she didn't raise an alarm, only calmly called for the flight attendants to arrange for the passengers to deplane immediately, avoiding a chaotic stampede while not wasting any time.
But even so, when only seven or eight people were left, Wang Jiu still saw the vortex change. It had expanded again!
"Hurry up!"
