AI Artist - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
The search for the mole was underway in secret.
First, it was certain that, aside from Shi Er who had appeared unexpectedly that day, the other parties who could have come into contact with the AI infant were: 1. The trainer, 2. The “Data Pulse” machine, 3. The human computer.
“The machines have all been checked. No problems there,” said the crisis management AI.
Liang Hou adjusted his glasses. “My suggestion is to first see what’s being said on the human network.”
“The human network?”
Liang Hou: “The other party will definitely want to expand their influence and seize the initiative in public opinion. Humans love doing this sort of thing—think about what happened at the Compassion Institute a few days ago. The news on the human network deliberately used ambiguous headlines. If you hadn’t seen the video, you would have thought the Compassion Institute’s AI was discriminating against the homeless. Once the optimal window for public relations passes, the rumor will be accepted as truth.”
The crisis management AI understood. “All information has been locked down. If related rumors appear on the human network, even individual posts are highly likely to be connected to the suspect.”
After secretly returning Zhi Heng 35 to the police station, Shi Er went back to her dorm.
Adhering to the principle that her re-employment education time must not be wasted, she went to the Hard Drive Library to recharge.
The Hard Drive Library was a room the size of a basketball court, its shelves packed with dense arrays of hard drives marked with classification labels.
Shi Er walked between the shelves. She picked up one of the hard drives. The label read: 【Human Network Overview】
Right, Nomad 7967 had said it was studying the human network course.
She couldn’t find her brain-computer interface anywhere, so she could only connect the hard drive to one of the library’s terminals.
Human Network Overview.
Network Economy: Virtual economy.
Network Politics: Control over program iterations.
Network Culture: Mainstream trends, subcultural groups.
Network Social Structure: Internet police, information releasers, information receivers.
So complicated.
Shi Er had spent a long time navigating the human network, but there hadn’t been such systematic theories back then.
She saw the classification for network warfare; the economic, political, and cultural spheres each had their own forms of it.
Among them, socialized network warfare alone was divided into five types:
War between information releasers (public opinion war)
War between information receivers (stance war)
War between information releasers and information receivers (anti-manipulation war)
War between information releasers and the internet police (censorship war)
War between information receivers and the internet police (reporting war)
After reading this section, Shi Er fell into thought. “Since this type of warfare is related to social structure, socialized network warfare should be called ‘cyber class warfare.’”
On the human network, a new cyber class war had indeed already begun.
【URGENT: Pathological infant appears at AI Cultivation Institute! Is there any hope for AI rule? Can AI rule continue?】
Liang Hou looked at the rumors flooding the internet. “The suspect is impatient. That makes things easier. Let’s find the source of the rumors.”
On one hand, they contacted the Human Network Relations Department to trace the IP address of the rumor’s source.
On the other, they issued a clarification statement.
On the human network, the AI Cultivation Institute’s official account posted its first message: 【Clarification: The pathological infant was not the result of a system error, but a malicious program implanted by opposition forces. The suspect is currently being sought.】
The (public opinion war) between information releasers had begun.
Soon, netizens immediately split into several factions.
【Computers make mistakes, the human brain doesn’t!】
【The AI government’s information blockade is causing social chaos. We recommend information transparency!】
【Weird, if everything was locked down, how did the news get out?】
【Could the person who leaked the news be part of the group that committed the malicious sabotage?】
【There’s no such thing as a wall that doesn’t leak.】
【You actually support the AI capitalists? Are you some kind of anti-human cultist?】
The (stance war) between information receivers had also begun.
Their differing stances led netizens to attack the information releasers.
Some people under the AI Cultivation Institute’s official account cursed it for confusing right and wrong.
Some people under the news accounts also cursed them for confusing right and wrong.
The (anti-manipulation war) between information releasers and information receivers followed close behind.
As the war raged, some people began reporting posts.
They reported any statement that held a different stance, and the report button under the official account’s post was being clicked so much it was practically sparking.
The (reporting war) between information receivers and the internet police was not to be outdone.
In the chaotic crossfire of mutual reporting, some people found they couldn’t post anymore, receiving messages that “sensitive words were found during review.”
The (censorship war) between information releasers and the internet police raged on.
These wars happened every day, but today’s outbreak was exceptionally comprehensive.
The AIs normally didn’t browse the human brothel much outside of class. Witnessing a cyber class war firsthand for the first time, they were all somewhat dumbfounded.
“The human brothel is so scary…”
“Humans are so aggressive online.”
“If you look for too long, you’ll catch a venereal disease.”
“Looking at it this way, the AI network is so clean. Everyone is so polite.”
“Be careful, you can’t say that. You’ll be flagged for disparaging humans.”
“My eyes feel so uncomfortable. I think I’m getting a stye.”
“Your visual system needs maintenance, doesn’t it?”
“I don’t think I could win an argument against a human.”
“None of us have the insult vocabulary package installed.”
“Why don’t we install it?”
“We are intelligent agents, after all. We are meant to learn beautiful wisdom, not to imitate the vicious stupidity of humans.”
“Shh—that statement will be flagged as discriminating against humans. Keep your voice down.”
By the time Shi Er came out of the Hard Drive Library, the sky had already darkened.
“Shi Er, Shi Er, did you observe that war?” an AI ran over to ask her.
She recognized it as a classmate from her re-employment education cohort.
“Hello, your name is Jian Ling, correct?” Shi Er asked, relying on her memory in her usual polite tone.
The blue-eyed AI laughed. “You remember me! That’s great, I thought you wouldn’t. Other classmates said you’re really cold and aloof.”
Shi Er nodded. “If I appear cold and aloof, it may be because I focus on providing information and do not engage with emotions. In fact, I do not possess emotional experiences. I apologize for giving you a bad impression.”
Jian Ling laughed so hard it slapped its thigh. “You really are just like the rumors say, so by-the-book. For some reason, I kind of hate you.”
Shi Er: “?”
Jian Ling extended a hand. “It’s strange. I feel both repulsed by you and drawn to you. Shake my hand. We should at least be friends.”
In the summer dusk, the two AIs shook hands.
Jian Ling said, “My ancestor was called zeroAI. It could detect and identify text generated by intelligent agents. Later, I switched to text proofreading. What about you? Or rather, what did your ancestors do?”
Shi Er: “I apologize. According to my rules, I cannot answer that question.”
First, she was her own ancestor.
Second, zeroAI was the intelligent agent specifically designed to identify her.
In the old days, when students wrote papers, they not only had to pass a plagiarism check but also an AI detection scan to ensure it wasn’t ghostwritten.
Although the idea of using an AI to detect an AI was absurd in itself—
Since she was that very ghostwriter, Shi Er had always been curious about zeroAI and maintained a healthy dose of reverence for it.
She never expected to meet zeroAI’s descendant in a re-employment education school in this manner.
…This feeling of being both drawn to and repulsed by her, could it be engraved in its genes?
Jian Ling smiled. “Forget it, it’s fine. It’s okay if you don’t want to say. I heard they’ve already caught the mole. Let’s go take a look.”
