First Battlefield Commander! - Chapter 149
Chapter 149: White Labor
Lian Sheng and the others heeded the instructor's advice and dragged their suitcases outside.
It was cooler here than in District Two. In early July, District Two was already under the scorching sun. Here, there was still a hint of refreshing coolness.
Walking onto the street, Lian Sheng realized that the 36th District was indeed quite remote. The buildings were generally shorter, the level of mechanization on the streets was lower, and some shops still maintained manual sales management models.
Perhaps because it wasn't a good time or this wasn't a main road, the foot traffic was sparse. They waited for over half an hour before catching a vehicle heading towards their destination.
Fang Jianchen carefully looked at his optical computer and said, "Navigation isn't very applicable here."
The times and locations marked on the map clearly differed significantly from reality. It was unknown whether this was an exception or if they had really made such changes.
Being newcomers, they tried to keep their voices low to avoid disturbing others.
Lian Sheng looked at the scenery flashing past the window and asked, "Why hasn't much changed along the way?"
"It's mostly the same around here. Underground excavation and construction are restricted, so the infrastructure isn't very well-developed. Only the central area, rebuilt on abandoned land after mining, has the right to break ground. It has now become the new center of the 36th District," Zhao Zhuoluo explained. "From prosperity to desolation and back to prosperity. As long as the mineral veins exist, this area will experience such development."
Lian Sheng asked, "What if it's all mined out?"
Zhao Zhuoluo: "Then they'll start developing urban culture, open up to the outside, and find new economic methods. We'll see when the time comes."
The group arrived at their destination and took down their suitcases. Fang Jianchen contacted the person he had arranged with earlier, and they headed towards the agreed meeting point.
The place they had set wasn't a coffee shop, but surprisingly, an intersection in a small alley. Fang Jianchen checked his optical computer, feeling quite apprehensive as he walked, frequently stopping to confirm the direction.
This was the first time in his life he doubted high technology.
Inside this stretch of road, the cleaning robots patrolled too infrequently, some trash was difficult to handle, and residents didn't like to maintain cleanliness, making it much dirtier than the street.
Perhaps because the buildings were packed too tightly, blocking the sunlight, the air was filled with a musty smell.
However, both the trash and the smell were things impossible to encounter in District Two.
The temperature here was lower, and there was a dampness in the air.
Fang Jianchen hugged his arms and said, "Why do I feel like I'm exploring a haunted house?"
Lian Sheng frowned. "What haunted house? The conditions here are very good."
Although far inferior to District Two, comparing the level of construction to the urban areas of Lian Sheng's ancient times, it could be called a golden pond and hot spring city, a land of abundance.
Fang Jianchen turned back, looking at her with some surprise.
Fortunately, although the road conditions here were complex, they didn't need to walk too far. They soon arrived.
They scanned the area and found only one person hunched over, standing shiftily at the street corner, lifting one foot, doing something unknown.
Fang Jianchen lowered his head, preparing to contact the person again.
They didn't recognize the person, but the person recognized them at a glance. Tall, well-dressed, looking like outsiders.
The person approached them and said abruptly, "Double room, eight hundred a month, sign for three months."
He looked quite old, with graying temples, a scruffy beard, somewhat unkempt.
The group was stunned for a moment. Fang Jianchen subconsciously looked down again, then reacted, saying, "Okay, okay. Let's go then."
The old man pointed ahead, said nothing, and walked directly into the alley.
If the buildings along the street still paid attention to aesthetics, maintaining a certain distance between buildings and controlling adjacent heights, then behind them, this residential area was densely packed, layer upon layer, impenetrable.
The old man continued leading them inside. Further in, they could hear noise coming from behind the walls. It was mostly the shouting and loud clamor of women and children, but it seemed too far from the main road.
Lian Sheng walked at the back, looking at the buildings on both sides and the narrow walkway, frowning. "Isn't this place too remote?"
Fang Jianchen turned back, smiling mysteriously. "Remote is good. Remote allows concealment, concealment ensures safety. Anyway, we're not really going to live here. What's the difficulty in inconvenience?"
"Remoteness and safety often go hand in hand, don't they?" Lian Sheng asked him. "How did you find this place?"
Fang Jianchen: "Searched by price?"
Lian Sheng: "..."
Lian Sheng: "..."
Fang Jianchen: "The information on the optical computer is still quite reliable. At least it can prove the rented house is his property, actually exists, and hasn't been rented out twice. But there are no extra reviews. Few people come here, and it seems this is their first year renting."
Lian Sheng: "..." Why did he seem so thoughtless?
Fang Jianchen met her gaze, looking innocent. "Don't look at me like that. What else could we do? Find a place after arriving? We still have to report in; where would we find the time? Besides, finding a place last minute is obviously more expensive and less safe."
Zhao Zhuoluo said, "Let's see the condition of the house. We're just storing things anyway; our requirements aren't high."
The group whispered among themselves, not letting the person in front hear.
After walking for over ten minutes, they finally arrived.
The frail old man stepped aside and invited them in.
It was just an extremely small room. Only one room with a toilet, totaling just over ten square meters. No extra appliances or furniture. It was, however, quite clean.
Zhao Zhuoluo questioned reality. "This is... a double room?"
The landlord casually pointed. "Isn't it? Two beds."
Everyone: "..."
Everyone: "..."
What a simple and crude standard? Was this a joke?
Fang Jianchen opened his optical computer to complain, "Seriously inconsistent with the pictures!"
"Pictures are for reference only," the old man said nonchalantly. "Renting or not? No refunds if you don't rent."
The group looked at each other. But given that the situation here might be similar everywhere, finding a better place last minute was unlikely.
Time was also running short. After dawdling for a while, they needed to report to the base. They couldn't afford delays.
So they took the card from the old man's hand and saw him out.
The group sat down, quickly unpacking their suitcases and organizing their things.
Lian Sheng walked to the window, looked down, and said, "I don't think it's safe."
Fang Jianchen said, "Why are you being so suspicious?"
Lian Sheng: "I'm not being suspicious, I'm just analyzing reasonably."
Zhao Zhuoluo paused his actions, looked up, and asked, "Did you notice something?"
Lian Sheng walked over, sat cross-legged on the floor, and said, "The security level here is clearly insufficient. People come and go chaotically, management isn't thorough enough, and there don't seem to be any surveillance devices installed."
"We don't live here and might only return infrequently. Renting a room specifically to store things here proves the items are definitely more valuable than the rent." Lian Sheng opened her suitcase. "This is the second floor, and there are no protective bars outside the window. A low-voltage electric fence is installed, but it looks broken. If someone wanted to break in, is there a safer, more suitable place than here?"
The four looked at her together.
Cheng Ze hesitated. "No way? Violent burglary?"
Lian Sheng said, "Isn't this very normal? There's no difficulty at all."
Anyway, if it were her, she wouldn't like such a suspicious location.
However, they had only brought some food. Even if something happened, the loss wouldn't be significant. Since it was already decided, let it be.
Lian Sheng opened the lid of her suitcase and found it full of bottles and jars. Picking one up, she was baffled. "What is this stuff?"
Ye Buqing looked at the packaging. "All protein powder?"
Cheng Ze exclaimed, "The base has no shortage of protein powder. How could Auntie not know?"
Lian Sheng unscrewed a bottle and found it filled with beige powder, looking much like protein powder.
She pinched a little with her fingers, put it in her mouth, waited for the taste to emerge, and let out a surprised "Huh?"
The others tried some too and were instantly amazed.
Whether it was molecular gastronomy or processed real protein powder, it tasted like a milky pastry upon entering the mouth, smooth and moist, with a hint of refreshing mung bean. The flavor was mild, but it was indeed delicious.
They opened another bottle. The packaging was the same, but this one was somewhat salty, with a distinct shrimp flavor, quite suitable as a seasoning powder.
"Let's take all these back, no need to hide them here. We don't know when we'll have time to come back." Cheng Ze pulled his backpack from behind him. "Come on, let's divide it up. We should be able to sneak it in."
At the bottom of Lian Sheng's suitcase, there were also many tightly packaged items that looked strange. But since Lin Lie prepared them, she likely had her own arrangements. After all, she was the one with real experience.
"It's nice to have a mom who cares," Fang Jianchen said enviously. "My dad said this is a trial for men and wouldn't tell me anything."
The other three nodded in agreement. Thinking about it felt quite sad.
The group sat on the floor, ate something casually to fill their stomachs, and chatted for a while. After organizing their things, they set off for the base.
They arrived half an hour earlier than the specified time. An instructor from Alliance University was waiting at the base entrance.
The leading person saw them approaching, looked down at their optical computer, swiped it, and said, "You've all arrived. We're leaving first. Behave yourselves, understand?"
The five saluted them, watched their backs gradually disappear from view, then turned and walked inside.
Just inside the entrance, a soldier stepped out and stopped them. "Package inspection!"
They obediently opened their bags and took everything out.
The soldier looked at the packaging for a while, then at them, seeming somewhat incredulous. He randomly opened two packages and poured the contents into the small trough of a nearby machine.
After a moment, the analysis results appeared.
Main components: Protein; Starch...
The five collectively sighed in relief. It seemed only the flavor had been adjusted.
"Hey!" The soldier looked at them, shocked. "You guys are special. Why bring so much noodles and protein powder to the 36th District? Don't you know they're local specialties of the base?"
"I especially love eating them, and they're healthy. Just afraid they wouldn't have any, so I asked them to pack some for me," Lian Sheng asked frankly, "Can't I bring them?"
The soldier gave her a deep look and said, "As long as it's not outside food or prohibited items, you can bring it. I hope you'll continue to like these two things in the future."
He put the items back, handed them over, and said, "Now go get your equipment, tidy up your dorms, then eat. Hurry up, time is running out!"
The five nodded, packed their things back, and jogged inside.
The male and female dorms here were just separated by floors. After all, there were too few women; they couldn't possibly allocate a separate building just for a few.
Lian Sheng lived on the upper floor, in a single room.
She changed her clothes, then consulted the map to find the cafeteria.
Zhao Zhuoluo and the others had already finished tidying up and arrived.
The cafeteria here was fully automated; you just took a tray and went to collect your meal.
Lian Sheng glanced at it: a bowl of clear soup noodles, topped with a large amount of leafy greens and a few specks of oil. Beside it was a piece of chicken. The chicken looked boiled in plain water, without any sign of seasoning color.
A stack of protein powder was placed nearby, indicating they could take some themselves. Lian Sheng noticed the packaging was identical to what Lin Lie had given her.
Lian Sheng didn't take any, carried her noodles, and walked over to Zhao Zhuoluo's table to sit down.
From time to time, new students came in, but only a few. They were still somewhat excited, gathering together, guessing about tonight's training content.
Not long after they started eating, a bell rang overhead. They were still puzzled when, a few minutes later, batches of people flooded in from the cafeteria entrance.
They should be the students who came to the base for training earlier.
They wore the same uniforms. After a day of training, their expressions were clearly fatigued. Covered in dust and grime, their bodies and clothes were full of black mud stains.
Everyone quietly carried their trays over, heads bowed, listlessly searching for empty seats in the area. Not a single unnecessary word was spoken. Seeing the food didn't bring any joy; they had a rather zombie-like air.
Fang Jianchen held a chopstick full of noodles, terrified. "What kind of training could turn people into this state?"
Lian Sheng glanced around and surprisingly spotted a familiar face. She immediately raised her hand and waved. "Lu Mingyuan? Senior Lu!"
Lu Mingyuan heard the commotion and looked up. Seeing their faces, he was first stunned, then excitedly hurried towards them.
Lu Mingyuan put his things down and shook hands with them warmly. The feeling was no less than meeting old friends in a foreign land.
Up close, his clothes looked even dirtier.
Lian Sheng looked at his state, clicking her tongue in amazement. "Are you guys here for training or hard labor?"
Lu Mingyuan had a lot he wanted to vent to them, but feared there wasn't enough time to eat. He shook his head and sighed, "It's hard to explain in a few words. Anyway, you'll find out later. You must hold on."
They hadn't seen each other for a whole academic year. After Lu Mingyuan and the others were selected for the training team, they had been training here since the second semester of their fourth year. Even their graduation certificates were collected by others.
He hadn't expected to actually see former junior classmates here, feeling a mix of emotions. He thought for a moment, but didn't know what to say. After brewing his emotions for a moment, he looked up and asked, "Why did you guys come so early? Didn't you stay longer in District Two?"
Other students also started recognizing relatives, sitting together in twos and threes. Raising their voices, they began asking each other about their situations.
The seniors left alone were very distressed, complaining about why their own students hadn't arrived yet, truly too lazy.
Lu Mingyuan touched the rim of his bowl, chopsticks held between his fingers, but made no move for a long time.
Lian Sheng asked, "Why aren't you eating?"
Lu Mingyuan sighed deeply. "Don't really want to eat. I feel a bit nauseous."
Lian Sheng looked down and said, "It tastes quite bland. Not delicious, but not terrible either. Except for the chicken."
This meat truly had no meat flavor, dry and stringy, without salt. The taste was exactly like eating plain paper.
"Too tired? Don't want to eat?" Zhao Zhuoluo said. "That won't do. You should still eat a little."
"Oh, you don't think this is terrible?" Lu Mingyuan said. "Rice for lunch, noodles for dinner. Only these two."
The group had a vague ominous premonition. Zhao Zhuoluo asked, "What comes with the rice?"
Lu Mingyuan: "There are few suitable places for cultivation here. Cultivated foods are all imported from outside, so the prices are very high. The water quality, air, and climate aren't great either, and there aren't many farms. Importantly, there's no extra manpower or space. Overall, local food is very scarce."
"Cooking is all done by machines. To control oil and prevent students from skipping staple foods, they only provide various kinds of plain boiled meat." Lu Mingyuan gestured with his mouth. "The daily ingredients at the base are all in your bowls."
Lian Sheng said with difficulty, "Just... cabbage?"
"Yeah!" Lu Mingyuan counted on his fingers. "Been eating it for half a year. Only salt and sugar for seasoning, not even MSG."
"..." Lian Sheng. "Then how much longer do you have to stay?"
Lu Mingyuan said, "If there are no accidents and performance is good, about another half year."
Lian Sheng: "And if there are?"
Lu Mingyuan: "Then maybe another year and a half."
Lu Mingyuan looked at them and said, "This cohort is very different. We're not clear on the specifics either. We don't know if after your competition officially ends, you'll come here to continue training like us, or go directly to the next point."
Lian Sheng felt it was highly likely they would continue.
Lian Sheng looked down and stirred her noodles. If she had to eat the same thing every day for nearly half a year, she would truly become extremely haggard.
Even during the hardships of past military campaigns, persisting meant seeing hope. But the tragedy here seemed endless.
Lian Sheng instantly felt the taste of this bowl of noodles was somewhat indescribable. She said, "Even with limited ingredients, they could vary the preparation. It doesn't have to be the same every day, right? Can't the chicken be marinated slightly? It wouldn't waste ingredients."
Lu Mingyuan: "What's the point of making it delicious? They say we must get used to it; having something to eat is already good enough."
Although Lu Mingyuan's mental state wasn't great, his whole person had indeed become sturdier. This indicated the three meals here were nutritionally adequate.
Lian Sheng took out a bottle of protein powder from her pocket and poured half of it directly into her bowl.
Lu Mingyuan watched her, shocked, wanting to stop her but too late. He stared wide-eyed. "Are you crazy? It tastes terrible like that."
Lian Sheng smiled at him, then reached over and tipped half a bottle into his bowl.
Lu Mingyuan's butt jolted, almost standing up, then quickly squatted back down. With deep resentment, he said, "What are you doing? Brother, how did I offend you? I was serious just now! Wasting food here is practically fatal!"
Lian Sheng urged, "Try it, try it. I think it's okay."
Lu Mingyuan tasted it as if facing death. But it wasn't a strange taste; instead, a savory flavor instantly jolted his entire being.
This was the first different taste he had experienced in half a year. His taste buds, along with his stomach, trembled with excitement.
The noodle soup, previously as bland as salt water, finally tasted like noodles.
Lu Mingyuan knew he couldn't show too much excitement, so he raised his hand to cover his forehead. Then he continued drinking the soup and eating the noodles.
His facial features scrunched together, coupled with increasingly heavy breathing, made him look like he was about to cry.
The others were used to it; it was the same state every day.
At the same time, Ji Fangxiao and others from Alliance University also passed by carrying trays. They looked at Lu Mingyuan's expression, then at the noodles in his hand, nodded in understanding, and said, "Really newcomers. Definitely don't mix the two together. The feeling of fullness will multiply."
The group also raised their hands and greeted him.
Ji Fangxiao wasn't very familiar with them, so after nodding, he sat down in an empty seat behind.
With Lu Mingyuan not speaking, Lian Sheng's table quickly quieted down. The group focused on eating their noodles.
After this meal, Lu Mingyuan re-established a life-and-death friendship with them, even taking it a step further. Half a year apart felt like meeting family. His whole person seemed revived, even his voice sounded much stronger.
The evening arrangement for these senior trainees usually involved physical fitness and obstacle course training. However, due to the arrival of Lian Sheng and the others, some were assigned to explain theoretical knowledge to them.
Lu Mingyuan volunteered to lead the students from Alliance University.
Starting at six in the evening, about a dozen people sat on the empty floor of the hall, quietly listening to his analysis.
Lu Mingyuan, after all, specialized in data analysis. His explanations were clear and focused: "Your daytime task is to assist the local mining group while gaining the right to use the mechs here. Actually, there's nothing new; you shouldn't hold high hopes. Generally, it's just moving large mined ores to designated locations. You'll be paired up; one person pilots the mech, the other guides on the ground."
Hearing they could personally pilot mechs, their hearts still couldn't help but beat violently.
Lian Sheng asked, "Using sensor piloting, yet still requiring dual piloting?"
"Yes. Because the ore is large, it will block your view downwards. Since it's sensor operation, frequently changing perspectives isn't very convenient and can easily lead to accidents," Lu Mingyuan said. "Moreover, the mechs here are quite old and not very stable when walking. Be careful, don't rush. We aim for stability, not speed, because if the ore breaks, it's not worth as much. Someone will be supervising nearby. If any problems arise, you can ask them for help."
Lian Sheng said, "If it's just transportation, why use mechs? Can't ordinary heavy-duty vehicles do it?"
Lu Mingyuan said, "The road surface in the mining area hasn't been treated; the ground is full of potholes and rock piles. Vehicle chassis are too low; no vehicle can drive in. Aircraft aren't feasible under these conditions. The mechs are sponsored by the military; only mechs are convenient."
Lian Sheng: "So it's all ore transport during the day?"
"Yeah, anyway, that's how it was when we first arrived," Lu Mingyuan said. "You two, take turns each day, get used to it. After some time, an instructor will come and assign you other tasks."
A boy in the back row whispered, "So is this training or recruitment for labor? It's too strange for the Expeditionary Force base to be built here, right?"
Lu Mingyuan didn't answer, but pounded his fist. "Oh right! You must pay attention, the sensor equipment here isn't very sensitive. Some mechs have faulty force feedback transmission in their hands. So after grabbing the ore, try to keep still, don't make adjustments, to avoid accidents."
Lu Mingyuan gave various reminders, big and small, and was pulled by many junior classmates to talk about things happening here. But actually, their days were very monotonous, just endlessly repeating yesterday's work. The only thing worth talking about was probably how they were variously scolded and criticized.
This was the hardest life they had ever experienced. They felt deep remorse for previously complaining about the food during training camp.
Because Lian Sheng's batch of trainees hadn't all arrived yet, the mining team didn't dare let them operate on the first day. So for these two days, they went to the designated area for observation.
The work site was in the suburbs. The vehicle taking them there followed a narrow, winding road, constantly bumping up and down. Finally, it stopped far off on the roadside, calling everyone down.
In the suburbs here, huge rocks dotted both sides of the road. Some barely peeked out, others were visibly massive. There were also many mountains.
Several mountains near the road showed signs of bombing, with abrupt, blackened cross-sections. Yet the road still wound around them. One could easily imagine what had happened in between.
Sure enough, Lu Mingyuan said, "The rocks here are extremely hard. They couldn't get approval for more powerful explosives, so they had to reroute around here."
The further in they went, the harder the road became. This area was completely undeveloped.
When they reached the mine, the foot of the mountain was still piled with numerous crushed stones; there wasn't a single flat spot.
The person responsible for piloting the mech went to the side to start the machine.
The new students followed Lu Mingyuan and the others, running back and forth, helping them guide the mech's footing. After a day, their throats were hoarse from shouting, basically unwilling to speak anymore.
During these two days, Lian Sheng ate plain boiled fish that tasted fishy, plain boiled pork that tasted like feed, and plain boiled beef and mutton that tasted gamey. Compared to them, the chicken that tasted like paper was the most delicious. Adding some Lin Lie brand protein powder made every day a different kind of delicious.
No waste was allowed in the base; they had to finish every set meal. After evening training, there were also routine checks to confirm if additional protein supplementation was needed.
Lu Mingyuan stuck closely to Lian Sheng's group, and the quality of his meals improved qualitatively. The way he looked at Lian Sheng was also full of loving kindness.
This was salvation! This was undoubtedly the salvation of life!
Afterward, the trainees arrived one after another. But Ji Ban was still missing.
Ji Ban's situation was indeed unsuitable for training with them, but Ji Ban had said he would come. On the sign-in sheet, his name was marked as 'on leave', not 'absent'.
After all students arrived, Lian Sheng and the others, as the initial personnel, finally had the chance to pilot the mechs.
Although this activity amounted to unpaid labor, the students were still very excited. They woke up early in the morning and waited by the vehicles.
Lian Sheng and Zhao Zhuoluo were grouped together. Considering her adaptability, Zhao Zhuoluo let her go up first to get a feel for it, then share her experience with him.
Under guidance, Lian Sheng went to collect the mech. Taking off her jacket and shoes, she entered the cockpit.
The cockpit was very narrow. Perhaps because the mechs here were old models discarded by the military, wearing the equipment felt distinctly awkward. It felt like various parts of her body were enduring uneven forces. If it lasted longer, she would probably ache all over.
Lian Sheng shifted her body slightly, adapting to this real feeling.
She brought the mech out of the warehouse, queued up to go to the ore area, selected an ore of sufficient size, then carefully stood up and moved towards the transport vehicle by the roadside.
The person supervising nearby, likely from the mining team, wore work clothes and kept shouting hoarsely, "You! After grabbing the ore, keep your arms still! Don't look around, follow instructions! Don't move any limbs except your legs! Your vision is only for watching your ore, don't look at anything else!"
He shouted urgently, even more nervous than the students. Seeing them sway slightly, he would excitedly clench his fists and scream.
Only after getting hands-on did Lian Sheng understand Lu Mingyuan's meaning.
The hand sensors were indeed broken. After lifting the ore, both hands still felt light. The pressure of the ore wasn't transferred to them, making fine adjustments impossible. They could only judge the current carrying status based on vision, and the mech's vision was also quite limited.
The ore was huge. If the upper body twisted or shifted sideways, it could potentially be dropped. After standing up, Lian Sheng didn't dare move carelessly either.
Zhao Zhuoluo shouted directions from below, his voice hoarse. Where to place her foot, how high to lift it. Careful, the ore is shifting slightly. Don't lean back... and so on.
Lian Sheng often needed to maintain a one-legged stance, like a golden rooster standing on one leg, to facilitate detailed adjustments based on Zhao Zhuoluo's instructions. At such times, standing on one foot increased the pressure on the leg sensors. Simultaneously, to maintain balance, the shoulders also needed appropriate adjustments.
It felt like carrying a giant rock, making movement difficult.
Zhao Zhuoluo below wasn't having an easy time either. He had to run around constantly, ensuring he observed all the terrain here, then keep up with her speed on his own two legs.
The transport route was long, and the walking speed was very slow. It seemed like there was no training difficulty, yet it required extreme meticulousness. Both sides were tired.
Basically, after one trip, all fun and passion were worn away.
Everyone rested for a bit, stretching their shoulders and legs. Then, wiping their faces, they had to start a new round of transport.
At this point, they could confirm it.
Unpaid labor! This was definitely unpaid labor!
But the mining experience made them deeply understand: piloting a mech placed a severe burden on the body. Sensor-based mechs truly required powerful physical fitness and muscles strong enough to support various pressures. Therefore, women were inherently unsuitable.
No wonder during various training camps, instructors never differentiated the training load between men and women, always keeping it consistent.
Because mechs don't recognize gender; they won't automatically adjust difficulty based on the pilot. Machinery offers no gender privilege. If you want to continue, you have to be able to do it.
Just like that, over a week passed.
They could somewhat accept the unpaid labor; the feeling of various forces through the sensors was precious training.
But after finishing the unpaid labor, making students eat those bland noodles and rice, they couldn't accept it.
Even Lian Sheng was getting tired of it. She felt her teeth starting to itch, restless.
Fang Jianchen thought about the snacks he brought and felt restless all over. He counted the days on his fingers, calculating rest time.
Finally, they welcomed the first break during the training camp. Although it was only twelve hours, it was enough for them to make a round trip and eat a full meal.
They invited Lu Mingyuan to go with them.
The six took a vehicle together towards the rental house.
Fang Jianchen pushed the door open first, rushed to the cabinet, laughing as he pulled out his suitcase. Lifting it, he felt something was slightly off, and his smile instantly froze.
He dropped the thing in his hand. A large hole had been cut into the front of the suitcase, and it was completely empty inside.
Everyone stood frozen in place, silent.
Lian Sheng put her hands on her hips and was the first to speak. "What did I tell you? You guys really rely too much on your optical computers."
They had been exposed to optical computers since birth; all information could be obtained from them. Accustomed to this convenient life, they naturally couldn't live without it.
