Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were practically celebrated as Valentine’s Day nowadays. The bar was filled with couples, and to match the festive atmosphere, several romantic duets were performed.
The duet singers were none other than Chi Jia and Qin Dong. Qin Dong, still relentlessly pursuing Chi Jia, wouldn’t miss any of her performances. On stage, the handsome man and beautiful woman pairing naturally drew cheers and whistles from the crowd.
The sweet love songs, sung as a duet, created an undeniably romantic atmosphere.
Jing Rui watched silently from below, her drinking pace unconsciously accelerating. The two singers’ gazes were locked on each other, Miss Chi’s sweet smile making them look like a real couple.
Ning Qian recognized the man as Qin Dong, the project manager from their company. Looking at Jing Rui now, what she was drinking wasn’t wine, but pure jealousy.
“They’re just singing, it’s a performance, do you have to be so jealous?” Ning Qian, seeing through her, teased Jing Rui.
“Mind your own business.” Jing Rui glanced at Ning Qian, her gaze returning to the stage.
After the song finally ended, Qin Dong didn’t leave the stage. Instead, he borrowed a guitar from the band, saying he wanted to dedicate a song to his duet partner tonight.
Chi Jia hadn’t expected this, but she knew what kind of song Qin Dong was about to sing.
Then, a slow, gentle folk song filled the bar:
…
He really likes you, like the sun’s rotation, day and night.
He really likes you, a thousand words, never tiring.
…
Even a fool could tell it was a confession, and before the song even ended, the crowd started chanting “Get together! Get together!”
Ning Qian was surprised, knowing this wasn’t good. She looked back at Jing Rui, whose earlier smile had now completely vanished, her face icy cold.
Perhaps to others, Jing Rui just looked expressionless, calm and collected, but Ning Qian knew Jing Rui well enough to know that Miss Jing was now in a very dangerous mood.
Chi Jia felt awkward, her gaze darting around, landing on Jing Rui, who was sitting with Ning Qian.
Amidst the noise and cheers, everyone thought Chi Jia was just shy. Jing Rui knew Chi Jia was also looking at her.
Chi Jia should be thankful that Qin Dong didn’t ask her to be his girlfriend right then and there; that would have been truly embarrassing. Her mind was in turmoil, unable to make a decision.
After Qin Dong’s song-confession, Chi Jia simply smiled and thanked him before leaving the stage.
Ning Qian was about to say something to Jing Rui when she saw Jing Rui’s expressionless face, then, without a word, she stood up and walked towards Chi Jia.
Finally couldn’t take it anymore, huh?
Another one who was all talk, acting indifferent while caring deeply. Ning Qian inwardly mocked her, but looking at Jing Rui’s back, she still felt a pang of envy. At least they cared about each other. When you liked someone, and they liked you back, a silent gaze could be more powerful than any grand confession.
Ning Qian had a feeling that Chi Jia was destined to be with Jing Rui tonight. She continued drinking alone.
“Xiao Jia…”
“Chi Jia.”
Shortly after leaving the stage, Chi Jia was called out by both Jing Rui and Qin Dong almost simultaneously, both seemingly wanting to talk to her. Chi Jia looked at Jing Rui, then at Qin Dong, hesitating for a moment before saying softly, “I’m going to the restroom.”
“I’ll wait for you.”
Jing Rui didn’t say anything, but followed Chi Jia to the restroom.
Chi Jia stood at the sink, washing her hands absently. The sound of high heels clicking against the floor echoed behind her. She looked up at the mirror; Jing Rui was standing behind her.
They looked at each other in silence for a moment.
Jing Rui spoke first. “There was something urgent at the company that morning. I saw you were still asleep, so I didn’t wake you.”
“Okay.” Chi Jia continued washing her hands, the water running for a bit too long.
Jing Rui took two paper towels, walked over to Chi Jia, and handed them to her, explaining, “That night you called me, I said I had company, you misunderstood. Ning Qian was drunk at my place…”
She finally couldn’t resist explaining. Jing Rui had thought there was no need to explain since they weren’t going anywhere, but it had been bothering her. Now that she had finally cleared things up with Chi Jia, she felt much better.
Chi Jia was truly testing Jing Rui’s patience in relationships. In the past, such misunderstandings were trivial to Jing Rui.
Explaining meant she cared, although a bit late. Chi Jia dried her hands. “What does that have to do with me…?”
Still being stubborn, only softening up when drunk. The only way to deal with Miss Chi’s stubbornness…
Laughter and chatter echoed from outside the restroom; someone was coming. Jing Rui took Chi Jia’s hand and pulled her into a nearby stall, locking the door.
In the confined space, their bodies pressed together, breaths mingling, the position undeniably intimate.
“What are you doing…?” Chi Jia had thought about this face countless times, and as Jing Rui leaned closer, her heart pounded, a familiar flutter of excitement.
Some feelings were beyond her control, especially when Jing Rui suddenly kissed her.
“I want to seduce you…” Jing Rui whispered, pressing Chi Jia against the door, her voice barely audible. So close, Jing Rui’s eyes half-closed as she kissed Chi Jia, a soft, lingering kiss, the familiar taste she craved.
It had been a while since their last kiss. As their lips met, a wave of warmth spread through Chi Jia’s body. She had little self-control, she was almost…
She almost gave in.
At the crucial moment, Chi Jia bit Jing Rui’s lower lip, a gentle bite, a mixture of frustration and urgency in her voice. “Jing Rui!”
People started entering the restroom.
“I haven’t slept with anyone else, not since I started pursuing you…” Jing Rui whispered in Chi Jia’s ear, holding her close. She used to say Ning Qian was clinging to a lost cause, but was she being overly persistent with Chi Jia now?
Almost half a month of no contact, she should have moved on. But seeing Chi Jia again, being close to her, she couldn’t help herself. Jing Rui seemed to understand Ning Qian’s feelings now, having someone in your heart, making everyone else seem insignificant. No matter how she flirted with other women, she couldn’t help but compare them to Chi Jia, she couldn’t… forget Miss Chi.
Chi Jia’s heart was in turmoil. She had finally managed to break free from her entanglement with Jing Rui, had finally started accepting Qin Dong, her life getting back on track, and now…
What a mess.
“Chi Jia, I’m truly at a loss with you.” Jing Rui leaned her forehead against Chi Jia’s, her hand cupping Chi Jia’s face as she looked into her eyes, her voice soft and gentle. “I missed you so much.”
The words weren’t premeditated, they just slipped out. Jing Rui never thought she would be so vulnerable with anyone.
Her soft, husky voice, her breath warm against her cheek, Chi Jia heard the sincerity in Jing Rui’s “I missed you,” a stark contrast to last time.
As Chi Jia looked up, Jing Rui’s lips met hers again, the kiss deepening.
Being kissed by Jing Rui, Chi Jia wanted to resist, but as soon as she raised her hand, her resolve crumbled, her body melting against Jing Rui’s. She instinctively wrapped her arms around Jing Rui, closing her eyes, lost in the kiss.
Everything else faded away.
It was almost Chi Jia’s turn to perform, and the bar staff were looking for her everywhere. Meanwhile, in a stall in the restroom, Chi Jia and Jing Rui were locked in a passionate embrace, completely forgetting about the performance…
Aeee!
