If It’s Wrong, Then It’s Wrong - Chapter 20
Chapter 20: The Sixth Day
When Cheng Liu heard someone call her name, she was excitedly saying to her boyfriend, who had just pulled off the red cloth, “This gift is for you!”
In the center of the trunk was a solid gold plaque, flanked by two gold bars, gleaming brilliantly in the sunlight.
The golden light made the April day feel even warmer, at least that's what CEO Cheng thought before turning around.
However, as she turned and saw the person rushing towards her, the smile on her face slowly froze, a sense of unease creeping into her heart.
The person looked very familiar, and that familiar, irritating aura, after months of absence, was back.
The closer he got, the more familiar he seemed, familiar like the boyfriend she had dated six months ago.
Certain memories, automatically distorted and altered in her mind, suddenly began to correct themselves.
“No wonder you haven’t been replying to my messages or answering my calls!” Wang Hongyang rushed over, perfectly embodying the wronged boyfriend. “Cheng Liu, you’ve found someone new.”
…That familiar, dramatic tone.
At that moment, CEO Cheng’s bright and sunny April day crumbled, plunging into darkness.
“Is she your bodyguard?” Ji Chaozhou, hearing the man’s accusation, lowered the hand shielding his eyes and looked over, instinctively defending Number Six.
Ji Chaozhou assumed the man was Number Six’s husband and didn’t want a hardworking mother to be misunderstood.
But he paused when he saw Wang Hongyang's face.
He had seen this man on the green-haired woman’s phone just a few minutes ago at the mall. She had said they looked alike.
This was the bodyguard’s husband?
Although it was a bit of a coincidence, Ji Chaozhou didn't dwell on it. Not wanting to interfere in the bodyguard’s personal affairs, he looked away, intending to avoid the confrontation.
His gaze fell on the contents of the trunk, and he was surprised to see that Ji Mushan had sent another gift.
But then his eyes widened, his brow furrowing as he stared at the gold plaque and slowly read aloud, “Cheng Liu…Wang Hongyang?”
Two hearts were engraved in the center of the gold plaque, each with a name inside, connected by an arrow piercing through both hearts.
The two gold bars flanking the plaque were engraved with the words: Love is stronger than a brick, eternally unbreakable.
Ji Chaozhou had clearly heard Number Six say that this was a gift for him.
But this was definitely not something Ji Mushan would give.
“Ha, bodyguard? Cheng Liu is your bodyguard? Do you even think before you speak?” Wang Hongyang scoffed, glaring at the shopping bags in Cheng Liu's hands. There were even men’s underwear among them!
He had only been flirting with other women, but Cheng Liu was already buying underwear for another man! It was hard not to imagine what they had been up to.
Looking at Cheng Liu, Wang Hongyang felt his head was greener than hers!
Ji Chaozhou frowned, not understanding what he was talking about.
Just then, the woman with short hair caught up: “Hongyang, what’s wrong?”
As Ji Chaozhou stood beside the trunk, the woman caught a glimpse of his profile and gasped, tugging on Wang Hongyang’s arm and whispering, “He looks just like you.”
Wang Hongyang, usually proud of his looks, suddenly felt self-conscious as he looked at Ji Chaozhou.
His feigned anger intensified, and he angrily shook off the woman's hand.
Just as the woman was about to appease him, she saw the gold plaque in the trunk, her expression changing instantly. She pointed at the plaque: “Why are your name and another person’s name on this? Who is she?”
Wang Hongyang looked over impatiently and was stunned by the gleaming names and hearts.
He looked at Cheng Liu hesitantly: “Is this…for me?” Had he wrongly accused Cheng Liu?
But the underwear definitely wasn't for him!
Ji Chaozhou’s gaze swept over the three of them, then settled on Cheng Liu.
She had said this was a gift for him, yet it was clearly a romantic gift, with Wang Hongyang’s name on it, and Wang Hongyang seemed to resemble him somewhat.
For a moment, Ji Chaozhou arrived at an absurd conclusion, but it didn’t seem logically sound.
She had delivered the Lily-of-the-Valley Deer Planter that Ji Mushan had won at the auction, and she had Ji Mushan’s WeChat contact on her phone.
At the airport parking lot that day, the last message he had seen on her phone, from “CEO Ji,” had been: Okay.
Ji Chaozhou recalled her behavior these past few days. Nothing she had done contradicted her being a bodyguard, and she hadn’t denied it when he had introduced her to Aunt Yun as such.
As for Cheng Liu, she was in a state of shock.
She…seemed to have…mistaken…the wrong person…for her boyfriend!
The handsome, aloof boyfriend who had captivated her these past few days didn't seem to be the boyfriend she had dated six months ago.
But…why hadn't he denied it?
Cheng Liu instinctively looked at the “boyfriend” beside her, feeling another wave of dizziness. Everything about him was perfect.
Their eyes met, both filled with confusion.
Ji Chaozhou’s usually indifferent face showed a flicker of emotion as he finally asked the question that had been on his mind: “You’re not the bodyguard Ji Mushan hired?”
“Who?” Cheng Liu’s mind was a mess, experiencing her first major setback in life, wondering: Ji Mushan? Who’s Ji Mushan? The name sounds familiar.
Ji Chaozhou frowned. She didn’t know Ji Mushan? But the “CEO Ji” she had been messaging had the same profile picture as Ji Mushan.
Another coincidence?
“Are you talking about CEO Ji of Tianqi Automobile?” Cheng Liu finally remembered who Ji Mushan was, utterly confused. “Why would I be his bodyguard?”
Ji Chaozhou: “…”
“Are you really not Wang Hongyang?” CEO Cheng asked, clinging to a sliver of hope. How could he not be her boyfriend?
“What the hell?” Wang Hongyang was getting impatient. “What are you two talking about?”
He was standing right here, and they were discussing whether he was Wang Hongyang or not?
This wasn’t how surprises worked. April Fool’s Day was over.
Ji Chaozhou was silent for a long time: “I am not Wang Hongyang.”
So, she had mistaken him for her boyfriend this whole time? How could someone not have their boyfriend's phone number or WeChat contact, or even know where he lived?
Cheng Liu instinctively wanted to ask: “Then what’s your…” name?
“Chaozhou?” a deep, steady voice called out from nearby.
They all turned to look.
Ji Mushan, passing by in his car, had seen Ji Chaozhou standing by the roadside. He had told his assistant to stop, then got out and walked over.
“CEO Cheng?” Ji Mushan, seeing that Cheng Liu was also there, quickly composed his almost fawning smile, which had appeared at the sight of his son.
He nodded politely, then his gaze was drawn to the gleaming gold plaque and bars in the trunk. Recalling the incident at the auction, he glanced at Wang Hongyang and said to Cheng Liu, “So this is CEO Cheng’s boyfriend. Quite a…unique gift.”
Cheng Liu felt a wave of dizziness: “I…”
Ji Chaozhou, hearing Ji Mushan’s words, looked at everyone, then at Cheng Liu: CEO Cheng?
Ji Mushan, seeing that Ji Chaozhou was looking at Cheng Liu, introduced her: “This is Cheng Liu, the founder of Shenyin Technology. A very capable young woman, quite famous in the industry.”
Then, turning to Cheng Liu, he introduced his son with a hint of fatherly pride: “This is my son, Chaozhou. He’s the perfumer behind Ranshan Midu.”
Cheng Liu’s mind went blank: “Son?” Whose son? What was she hearing?
Ji Mushan looked at Ji Chaozhou and said to Cheng Liu, “Chaozhou loves growing flowers, which is why I wanted to give him that Lily-of-the-Valley Deer Planter. Unfortunately, CEO Cheng outbid me at the auction and gave it to her boyfriend.”
Cheng Liu, who had aggressively outbid CEO Ji for his son's gift and then given it to his son: “…”
Ji Chaozhou, who had already received the Lily-of-the-Valley Deer Planter: “…”
Their eyes met, then quickly darted away.
Ji Mushan looked at the woman with short hair, forcing a warm smile onto his usually stern face: “You must be Chaozhou’s girlfriend.”
He thought she wasn’t as tall as the property manager had described, and her round face wasn’t fierce at all. Quite a cute young lady.
Cheng Liu quickly turned to look at the woman, her heart sinking: “Girlfriend?” Did her boyfriend already have a girlfriend?
The woman with short hair looked bewildered: “?”
Wang Hongyang was even more confused, wondering if he had suddenly lost the ability to understand human language.
Ji Chaozhou looked at Ji Mushan, frowning deeply: “What are you talking about?”
Ji Mushan, thinking his son was displeased, explained awkwardly, “I went to the Wenxing Residential Complex yesterday, and the property manager said you left with your girlfriend. Are you here shopping with her?”
Of the four young people standing there, Ji Mushan had immediately ruled out Cheng Liu. That left only the woman with short hair, whom he naturally assumed was his son's girlfriend.
It was perfectly normal for Chaozhou to be shopping with his girlfriend after his apartment had been destroyed in the fire.
At that moment, an awkward silence filled the air in that corner of S City’s most luxurious mall, everyone confused about the unfolding situation.
The woman with short hair slowly raised her hand and pointed at Ji Chaozhou: “I don’t know him.”
The formidable CEO Ji was momentarily stunned. How could Chaozhou's girlfriend not know him?
The woman moved closer to Wang Hongyang: “We’re…”
Wang Hongyang immediately dodged her, saying, “We’re just good friends. I’ve always considered you a younger sister.”
“Hongyang, what do you mean?” the woman asked angrily. “I just bought you a watch!”
“You insisted on buying me a gift. I just didn't want to refuse your kindness.” Wang Hongyang knew what was more important. He wouldn't give up on Cheng Liu. “I already have a girlfriend.”
“How could you do this to me?!” The woman’s face flushed red with anger.
Wang Hongyang ignored her outburst. She was just a somewhat wealthy second-generation rich kid, not comparable to Cheng Liu.
Now that he had been caught, he had no choice but to abandon her.
Besides, Cheng Liu clearly still liked him. She had even prepared a gold plaque for him. Although a bit tacky, it was obviously expensive.
Wang Hongyang looked at Cheng Liu with feigned resentment: “You never come to see me. One day, someone else will steal me away.”
“You think giving a gold plaque makes her a good girlfriend?” the woman said, her chest heaving with anger, pointing at Ji Chaozhou, then at the bag of men’s underwear in Cheng Liu’s hand: “She’s still buying underwear for other men!”
Ji Mushan followed her finger to the bag of men’s underwear in Cheng Liu’s hand, puzzled: …Underwear for whom?
Cheng Liu, meeting Ji Mushan's gaze, slowly looked up at the sky: Why had her world suddenly turned dark?
I thought it was just going to MC, her old bf and her new bf but there's even more misunderstandings here.... I'm crying, the author is a genus, this story is like a delicious croissant with many layers of stupidity
