Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 30
Chapter 30
They stood face to face, the atmosphere tense.
After yelling at Jing Rui, Chi Jia suddenly deflated. She bit her lip, bent over, and clutched her abdomen, a wave of painful cramps washing over her, her face paling.
A few degrees below zero, snowing, painful cramps, and design drafts waiting to be revised. Chi Jia thought she must have lost her mind, buying medicine and rushing to Jing Rui’s place in this weather.
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, wanting to punch surnamed Jing. Why was she being treated like this? She was even angrier at herself for falling for Jing Rui’s trick. Even if the vixen really had a fever, what did it have to do with her? Why take it seriously?
Indeed, whoever took it seriously would lose.
Jing Rui sensed something was wrong. “Are you feeling unwell?”
“None of your business!” As Jing Rui approached, Chi Jia instinctively stepped back, clutching her abdomen, intending to leave, but the pain was too intense, she couldn’t move.
Chi Jia leaned against the wall, trying to catch her breath. The cramps had started on her way here; she had just been enduring the pain.
“Is it that time of the month?” Jing Rui took Chi Jia’s bag and helped her steady herself.
“Leave me alone… You’re annoying!” Chi Jia continued to snap at Jing Rui, her expression cold.
Chi Jia wasn’t usually this irritable, especially with clients, and Jing Rui was a major client, but for some reason, she couldn’t help but act out in front of Jing Rui, without considering the consequences.
Jing Rui put her arm around Chi Jia’s waist, half-carrying her towards the sofa.
“…”
“Don’t touch me.” Chi Jia still struggled, trying to push Jing Rui away.
“Still being stubborn, even in so much pain.” Jing Rui’s tone was a mixture of reproach and tenderness. She didn’t let go, and looking at Chi Jia’s pale face, she suddenly felt a pang of heartache and guilt. “Just sit down on the sofa for a bit.”
Chi Jia couldn’t stand anymore, so she let Jing Rui help her. The first three days of her period were always excruciating, and if it fell on a workday, she just had to grit her teeth and bear it.
The cramps came in waves, subsiding after a while. Chi Jia leaned against the sofa, pressing her hand against her abdomen, the stillness bringing some relief.
Jing Rui went to the kitchen, made a cup of ginger tea with brown sugar, and brought it to Chi Jia. “Feeling better?”
Much better than before, but still uncomfortable. Chi Jia tried to appear nonchalant and stood up to leave.
“You’re not going anywhere.” Jing Rui stopped her, her face so pale, Jing Rui was afraid she would faint as soon as she stepped outside. “Why didn’t you tell me on the phone?”
That commanding tone, so condescending. Chi Jia glared at Jing Rui, her eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep. Was surnamed Jing blaming her for this, for coming over despite feeling unwell?
“What’s there to say?” Chi Jia sneered, stubbornly saying, “I just felt like it, it has nothing to do with you.”
Clearly lying. The atmosphere turned tense again.
“I’m sorry.” Jing Rui realized how unfamiliar those words sounded. “It was my fault tonight, I shouldn’t have tricked you into coming over. Are you still in pain?”
Jing Rui’s apology made Chi Jia feel slightly better.
But Chi Jia still turned her face away, sulking. She felt wronged. She had hoped for some care and company during her period, but instead, she was tricked by Jing Rui and braved the snow for nothing.
Seeing Chi Jia’s pouting lips, Jing Rui realized an apology wasn’t enough to appease Miss Chi. “If the pain is too much, I’ll take you to the hospital.”
“I’m not that weak.” Chi Jia reached for her laptop bag; she had brought it with her, intending to work after coming to Jing Rui’s place.
“Chi Jia, can you stop being stubborn? Look at yourself…” Jing Rui was used to seeing Chi Jia’s rosy complexion, so her pale face today was especially noticeable. Softening her tone, she said, “Stop being difficult, just be good.”
Chi Jia didn’t fully understand Jing Rui, so she didn’t realize how much leeway Jing Rui was giving her. Jing Rui had never treated anyone like this before, remaining calm and caring after being called a “crazy woman,” even swallowing her pride.
But Chi Jia wasn’t buying it. Be good? As if.
Despite feeling unwell, Chi Jia mustered the energy to snap at Jing Rui, “I’m not your pet… Ugh, it hurts…”
Another wave of cramps hit, and Chi Jia sat down on the sofa.
“Still being difficult even in so much pain!” This time, Jing Rui finally understood the feeling of being at a loss with someone. Seeing Chi Jia’s glare, she softened her voice. “Don’t push yourself.”
Chi Jia just clutched her abdomen, enduring the pain, ignoring Jing Rui’s concern, still angry.
While others would act weak and vulnerable when unwell, Miss Chi was the opposite, becoming even more stubborn. Jing Rui sat next to Chi Jia, taking her hand; it was icy cold despite her layers of clothing.
As Jing Rui held her hand and gently rubbed her abdomen, Chi Jia felt a wave of warmth and comfort.
“Drink some ginger tea, it’ll make you feel better.” Jing Rui continued massaging Chi Jia’s abdomen, noticing her brow relaxing slightly.
Chi Jia’s attitude finally softened, because of the pain, and because of the care. Actually, what she needed was simple, just a few words of concern. But Jing Rui had chosen this moment to provoke her, so she had taken out all her period-induced irritability on the vixen.
“Feeling better?”
Chi Jia reluctantly replied, “Yes.”
This little devil finally responded. Jing Rui breathed a sigh of relief. Had she owed this innocent girl something in a past life, to be constantly “serving” her like this?
Jing Rui looked at Chi Jia’s face for a moment, then released her hand and went to the kitchen.
Chi Jia felt a pang of disappointment. Although she was being stubborn, she still wanted to be coaxed.
A moment later, Jing Rui returned with a bowl and spoon, pouring the ginger tea from the glass into the bowl. She sat down next to Chi Jia, let the spoon cool slightly, and then held it to Chi Jia’s lips.
“Drink some.”
Chi Jia looked at Jing Rui, hesitating for a moment before taking a sip of the ginger tea. It was warm and sweet.
Jing Rui continued to feed her, and Chi Jia didn’t take the bowl herself, just letting the vixen feed her, spoonful by spoonful.
Chi Jia looked at Jing Rui, both angry and touched by her actions. No one had ever taken care of her like this during her period.
Sometimes arrogant, sometimes gentle, sometimes cold as ice, sometimes hot as fire, Chi Jia still couldn’t understand this woman. What did Jing Rui feel for her? As Jing Rui fed her the ginger tea, she seemed to sense a hint of affection.
But Jing Rui definitely wasn’t pursuing her; Chi Jia was certain of that. She had been pursued by many, and none of them were like Miss Jing, who seemed to be just playing around from the beginning.
Jing Rui had asked why she didn’t contact her, but Jing Rui hadn’t contacted her either. Being entangled with a woman in bed was already crazy enough for Chi Jia, let alone actively pursuing her.
After finishing the ginger tea, Chi Jia felt much warmer, the cramps less painful.
“Are you hungry? I’ll make you some porridge.”
“Mmm…” Chi Jia hadn’t eaten much of the steamed buns, her appetite gone, and she was still craving Jing Rui’s porridge.
Regardless of Jing Rui’s intentions, Chi Jia didn’t want to refuse. She felt vulnerable tonight and wanted someone to take care of her, to comfort and accompany her.
While Jing Rui was cooking porridge in the kitchen, Chi Jia sat at the dining table, waiting. Feeling slightly better, she took out her laptop and continued working, her workaholic spirit admirable and terrifying.
After the porridge was ready, Jing Rui moved Chi Jia’s laptop aside and placed the bowl in front of her.
Chi Jia looked up at Jing Rui, then silently started eating.
As she ate, Chi Jia thought, she had never met a woman like Jing Rui, who could be both alluring and caring.
Although Chi Jia had a small mouth, she ate quickly, a habit developed from work. When time was tight, there was no such thing as a lunch break, and meals had to be eaten as quickly as possible.
After finishing the porridge, Chi Jia went back to her laptop.
“If you’re not feeling well, go rest early.”
Chi Jia stared at the computer screen. “I’m feeling better now.”
Jing Rui saw the lingering fatigue on her face. “Go take a shower and lie down in bed now.”
“You’re so annoying, I’m almost done…”
Jing Rui walked over to Chi Jia and called her name. “Chi Jia.”
“Hmm?” Chi Jia looked up and saw Jing Rui’s face close to hers, then her lips were captured in a kiss before she could react.
“Mmm…”
Jing Rui leaned over, her right hand on the back of the chair, her left hand cupping Chi Jia’s face, gently kissing her.
Chi Jia’s first instinct was to close her eyes and kiss back; their kisses had become second nature.
“What are you doing…?”
Jing Rui, still leaning over, looked at Chi Jia intently. “Would you listen to me otherwise? Take a shower and go to bed, stop pushing yourself, do you hear me?”
Chi Jia frowned. “I have to show this to a client tomorrow. If I can’t finish it and lose the client, it’ll be your fault…”
“I’ll get you ten more clients, how about that?”
Chi Jia: “…”
Maintaining their position, Jing Rui finished speaking and couldn’t resist kissing Chi Jia again, a slow, deliberate kiss.
The atmosphere turned intimate again.
Within seconds, Chi Jia’s lips parted, and she tilted her head back, her tongue tangling with Jing Rui’s, her hand moving from the edge of the table to Jing Rui’s neck, gently caressing it as she kissed her.
After so many kisses with the vixen, she wasn’t tired of it, instead, she was becoming more and more addicted, enjoying it more and more. Before, kissing Jing Rui just felt good, but now, she was starting to feel a desire that she shouldn’t be feeling for a woman…
As the kiss deepened, Chi Jia, feeling a surge of desire, turned her head away, breaking the kiss. Her lips, finally regaining some color, she said breathlessly, “I’m on my period, we can’t…”
“Besides sex, can’t we do something else?”
This is too childish for my taste, lol. I tried tolerating them but it can only go so far. I’ll be dropping it. It was a… journey… I’ll say that!
