Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Jing Rui pinched Chi Jia’s cheek. “Say that again?”

Chi Jia never backed down from Jing Rui, replying even more confidently, “You’re a pervert!”

Chi Jia’s defiant expression made Jing Rui want to tease her even more. She leaned down and kissed Chi Jia forcefully, her hand moving to Chi Jia’s waist under the covers.

“Hahaha…” Chi Jia laughed, unable to contain Jing Rui’s lips, almost rolling around on the bed, but with Jing Rui on top of her, she could only let herself be teased. Despite this, Chi Jia still refused to back down. “Jing Rui, you’re not just a pervert, you’re also childish… hahahahaha…”

Chi Jia’s laughter was sweet and infectious, brightening the mood. Jing Rui also smiled, continuing to tease her until Chi Jia was laughing uncontrollably, her eyes almost disappearing.

Watching her, Jing Rui’s movements gradually softened, her arms gently wrapping around Chi Jia’s waist, her gaze fixed on Chi Jia’s flushed face.

Chi Jia also looked at Jing Rui, a soft smile playing on her lips. Delusion and reality alternated in Chi Jia’s mind. Sometimes, she felt like they were in love; but most of the time, she told herself they were just enjoying the moment.

After a moment of eye contact, Chi Jia leaned in and kissed Jing Rui.

It was indeed enjoyable.

Regardless of her thoughts, the moment their lips touched, Chi Jia’s mind went blank, instinctively responding to Jing Rui’s passionate embrace.

Jing Rui whispered, “Didn’t have enough fun tonight?”

“Mmm.” Chi Jia hugged Jing Rui tighter.

Jing Rui smiled. “Me neither…”

They made love again.

This time, they were truly exhausted. Chi Jia buried her face in the pillow, feeling drowsy, thinking she would probably have to go to work without makeup again tomorrow. Within a minute, she was fast asleep.

Chi Jia used to toss and turn, unable to sleep, but now she seemed to be getting used to having Jing Rui beside her.

Jing Rui reached out to turn off the light, then seeing Chi Jia’s exposed shoulder, sleeping like a log, she couldn’t help but smile. She pulled the blanket over Chi Jia, her gaze lingering on her face, lost in thought for a few minutes…

“…”

“Oh my god, I almost didn’t make it…”

“I’m rich… I’m rich…”

Chi Jia suddenly mumbled in her sleep.

Jing Rui smiled wryly. Besides money, could Miss Chi’s mind hold anything else?

The next morning was a repeat of their previous encounter.

As soon as Chi Jia woke up, she started grumbling at Jing Rui, who retorted that there was no one in the world grumpier than Chi Jia in the morning. They bickered for a full ten minutes.

It seemed like they could only find temporary harmony when naked and entangled in bed.

In the end, Jing Rui still offered to drive Chi Jia to work, and Chi Jia, albeit reluctantly, got into Jing Rui’s car.

At the office, Chi Jia looked at the hard-earned contract in her hand. She had slept with Jing Rui once to sign the contract, and once again to retrieve it.

She didn’t know when their relationship had turned sexual.

November was neither too busy nor too idle, as the company entered its off-season.

Chi Jia had fewer and fewer design projects, focusing mostly on following up on existing ones, but overtime was still unavoidable. For others, working after 5 PM was considered overtime, but for Chi Jia, leaving before 8 PM was considered leaving early.

“Xiao Jia, it’s almost 9 PM, aren’t you going home?”

It was her time of the month, but Chi Jia, being stubborn, was still working on the design drafts, despite feeling lightheaded. “I’m almost done, I’ll work a little longer.”

“You can do it at home. It’s snowing, it’s freezing outside.”

“Okay, I know. See you.”

Fewer and fewer people remained in the design department, only a few still struggling to meet deadlines.

At 9 PM, Chi Jia finally remembered she hadn’t had dinner, so she put on her thick down jacket and went downstairs to find something to eat.

White snowflakes danced in the wind.

Chi Jia exhaled, rubbing her hands and stomping her feet, too cold to appreciate the beautiful night view. She went to a nearby restaurant, planning to get some steamed buns and hot porridge for dinner.

“So cold~"

“Let me warm your hands.”

A young couple held hands at the next table, their sweet nothings filling the air. Chi Jia glanced at them, then turned away with a sigh, a sharp pain in her lower abdomen.

At times like these, she wished she had a partner.

After getting her takeout, Chi Jia tightened her scarf and walked out of the restaurant.

The north wind howled, biting at her face.

After only a few steps, Chi Jia slipped on the icy ground and fell, the porridge spilling all over the ground. It was a pathetic sight. The couple who had been admiring the snow gave her a sympathetic look, while Chi Jia just wanted to disappear into a hole, mortified.

Chi Jia gritted her teeth, stood up, and pretended nothing happened, continuing on her way.

She felt sorry for herself.

Back in the office, numbly eating a steamed bun and drinking some hot water, Chi Jia stared blankly at the computer screen, her head feeling even dizzier.

“Xiao Jia, want some soup? My boyfriend made it.”

“Oh, no thanks, I already bought food.” Chi Jia looked up. It was a colleague from Design Department One. Look at how thoughtful her boyfriend was, accompanying her for overtime and even bringing soup. Thinking back, before she saw Jiang Shen’s true colors, he had also been quite good to her, but who knew… Chi Jia lowered her head dejectedly, annoyed at herself for thinking about someone who upset her.

Chi Jia was afraid of being alone, otherwise she wouldn’t have dated so many people, sometimes just to avoid loneliness. She told herself that being single was better, but it was just her being stubborn after the breakup with Jiang Shen.

Feeling unwell, Chi Jia rested her head on her desk; her period was probably making her mood swings worse. Closing her eyes, she thought of Jing Rui and craved her seafood porridge.

Chi Jia felt frustrated; was she that desperate for company, to be thinking about the vixen?

“Call me when you miss me…” Jing Rui had whispered in her ear that night on the sofa, her voice incredibly seductive. But it had been almost a week, and Chi Jia hadn’t called Jing Rui once, nor had Jing Rui contacted her…

Just as Chi Jia was thinking about how Jing Rui hadn’t contacted her, her phone rang.

The caller ID: Vixen. It was Jing Rui.

Chi Jia hesitated for a few seconds before answering, but didn’t speak.

There was a brief silence on the other end, then Jing Rui’s voice. “Coming over tonight?”

“I don’t have time.”

“Can you come over and keep me company tonight? I’m not feeling well, I have a fever, and I’m out of medicine.”

Her voice sounded weak. Chi Jia stared at her keyboard, replying softly, “Why are you calling me if you have a fever? Go to the hospital!”

Chi Jia didn’t believe that Jing Rui could only contact her; Miss Jing had several secretaries. She was on her period, in a bad mood, so her tone was sharp.

“Forget it then.” Jing Rui, leaning against the sofa, hung up.

Chi Jia held her phone, feeling like a heartless jerk. Jing Rui sounded so pitiful, and she herself wasn’t feeling well, how could she take care of someone else? She felt wronged.

After the call, Chi Jia couldn’t focus on her work, the lines on the screen blurring before her eyes. Resting her head on her hand, she stared at her phone, conflicted…

Five minutes later, Jing Rui received a text message: I’m coming over now.

Looking at those five words, Jing Rui smiled.

After buying some fever medicine from the pharmacy, Chi Jia, bundled up like a bear, got into a taxi.

Looking at the medicine in her hand, she realized there was no need for her to go to Jing Rui’s place, but she had still bought the medicine.

Actually, hearing Jing Rui say she wanted company, Chi Jia felt the same. She wasn’t feeling well either and also wanted someone to be with her. Although she had many friends, Jian Yi was her only close friend, and Jian Yi was now in S City. She didn’t know who else to turn to.

Half an hour later, a knock came at the door.

Jing Rui got up to open the door. Chi Jia was bundled up like a dumpling, snowflakes clinging to her hair.

As soon as she stepped inside, Chi Jia felt a wave of relief; it was freezing outside, below zero.

“Here’s the medicine.” Chi Jia brushed the snowflakes off her hair, trying to sound energetic, then said casually, “What’s your temperature? If it’s serious, you should go to the hospital.”

Chi Jia wasn’t wearing any makeup today, so she looked particularly pale. In contrast, Jing Rui looked much better.

“I had a slight fever this morning, it’s gone down now.”

It had only been an hour. Chi Jia realized she had been tricked by the vixen. “You played me.”

“If you wanted to see me, why didn’t you call?”

Chi Jia’s temper finally snapped, all her pent-up frustration erupting like a volcano. She threw the bag of medicine on the floor, glared at Jing Rui, called her a “crazy woman,” and turned to leave.

“Chi Jia…” Jing Rui grabbed Chi Jia’s hand.

Chi Jia flung Jing Rui’s hand away, yelling, “I’m not in the mood today! If you want to have sex, find someone else!”
