Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Kissing each other, each more passionate than the last, as if competing for something.
They were alone in the closed café.
Unlike that night, it was quiet.
Hearing, touch… all senses were amplified.
When Jiang Shen pushed open the glass door and walked in, the visual impact was considerable… Chi Jia and Jing Rui were locked in an embrace, not just inseparable, but passionately devouring each other.
Chi Jia's timing was perfect; Jiang Shen walked in just as she and Jing Rui were entangled.
She wondered if Jiang Shen was satisfied with this scene. The goddess he had tried so hard to pursue was now passionately kissing her.
Although this behavior was childish, Chi Jia felt a surge of satisfaction.
Seeing Jiang Shen's dumbfounded expression, Chi Jia felt incredibly smug.
Jing Rui, turning to see Jiang Shen, realized she had fallen into Miss Chi's trap, being used.
Jiang Shen's frozen expression spoke volumes about his shock.
Chi Jia had achieved her goal.
"You followed me?" Chi Jia stood up. "Jiang Shen, we're over. If you continue like this, I can sue you for harassment."
"I just wanted to talk to you face to face..."
Chi Jia laughed. "Now you've seen me, do you think there's anything left to talk about?"
Jiang Shen was indeed too stunned to speak.
Jing Rui grasped the situation.
She stood up, next to Chi Jia, and put her arm around Chi Jia's shoulder, a smile on her face, but not a friendly one. "Mr. Jiang, if you continue to pester my girlfriend, I won't be polite."
Girlfriend? Chi Jia's eyes widened, looking at Jing Rui.
Jing Rui smiled at Chi Jia, her eyes full of affection, and asked tenderly, "Babe, coming to my place tonight?"
Chi Jia was stunned again.
That line, so suggestive, truly a vixen.
"Where else would I go besides your place?" Chi Jia flirted back.
This was the first time she found Jing Rui's smile so pleasing.
"Girlfriend..." Looking at the two of them, Jiang Shen felt completely superfluous.
Even breathing felt awkward.
"Is there anything else?"
Jiang Shen didn't answer Chi Jia, his face turning green as he walked out of the café.
Watching his retreating figure, Chi Jia burst into laughter. "Hahaha..."
This act was more satisfying than punching him.
Jing Rui, arms crossed, looked at Chi Jia, who was as happy as a child after a successful prank. "Was that necessary?"
"Of course it was! Who told him to secretly hit on..." Chi Jia was about to say "vixen," but realized the person in question was right in front of her.
So she swallowed her words.
Jing Rui turned to Chi Jia, her finger lifting Chi Jia's chin. "You said you're coming to my place tonight."
Her serious tone, especially her intense gaze, made Chi Jia's smile freeze. She started to panic.
"Just kidding." Jing Rui chuckled, retracting her hand, and emphasized again, "I said, I don't like every woman."
Chi Jia turned her head, smiling disdainfully. "Don't worry, I'm not interested in you either."
"Not interested? Then what were you doing just now?" Jing Rui raised an eyebrow, quickly catching the inconsistency.
"You kissed me too!" Chi Jia also crossed her arms, muttering sarcastically, "I even suspect you have a crush on me."
"You have such high self-esteem?"
Chi Jia lifted her chin. "I'm just too exceptional, can't help it."
Jing Rui simply smiled, her silence speaking volumes.
Chi Jia still had some reservations, afraid Jing Rui might misunderstand. "I helped you last time, you helped me this time, we're even. I, Chi Jia, won't take advantage of others, but I won't let myself be taken advantage of either."
"Really?" Jing Rui leaned in, giving Chi Jia a quick peck on the lips. "So, are you going to kiss me back now?"
"Jing Rui!! You're touching me again!" Chi Jia recoiled. "Pervert, I'll report you for harassment!"
"If this is harassment," Jing Rui rubbed her forehead, "then what you did was much worse."
"..."
Chi Jia realized that, whether in work or life, surnamed Jing was her nemesis, always pushing her to the brink.
The contract on the table was signed; this was Chi Jia's biggest achievement today.
She would tolerate the vixen one last time. Now that the contract was signed, they wouldn't have to meet often.
Actually, Chi Jia was grateful to Jing Rui. Although the "girlfriend" act wasn't consensual, Jing Rui had stood up for her.
Chi Jia put away the contract, ready to leave. Standing in front of Jing Rui, she mumbled a "Thanks for earlier," and left.
Jing Rui was left alone in the café.
She stared at the half-empty cup of cold coffee, not taking another sip, but instead, poured herself a glass of wine.
After breaking up with Jiang Shen, Chi Jia's love life blossomed.
Three people had confessed to her this month alone.
In addition, Qin Dong also seemed to be pursuing her.
But Chi Jia felt that relationships were too tiring; she was better off single.
After so many attempts and failures, it was natural to feel weary.
Qin Dong's pursuit of Chi Jia was intense, and almost everyone in the company who followed the gossip knew about it.
Whenever Chi Jia went to the break room, she would become the topic of discussion.
After all, many people were curious about what it felt like to be pursued by the company's most eligible bachelor.
Perhaps because of her aversion to him after the kiss, Chi Jia felt Qin Dong had become much more cautious around her.
Chi Jia couldn't quite define her feelings for Qin Dong; it was, at most, a slight fondness. She hadn't considered taking things further.
Perhaps, she should find an opportunity to reject him.
Starting a relationship out of settling wouldn't lead to anything good; Chi Jia now deeply understood this.
Chi Jia continued to sing at N Bar twice a week, sometimes only once if she was busy.
Although she claimed to go based on her mood, it was usually on Mondays or Wednesdays.
Qin Dong learned about Chi Jia singing at N Bar from his colleagues. Determined in his pursuit, he went there almost every night.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally.
It was also a display of his sincerity.
Chi Jia usually sang no more than three songs a night.
After singing, she would sit at her usual spot and drink.
As she sat down, Chi Jia instinctively looked around; she didn't see Jing Rui today. Then she thought, why was she even thinking about that vixen?
Every encounter with Jing Rui usually brought trouble.
After two drinks, Chi Jia noticed someone approaching her from the corner of her eye.
"Are you following me..." Chi Jia turned around, realizing it wasn't Jing Rui, but Qin Dong.
Somehow, she had subconsciously assumed it would be Jing Rui, because on several occasions, it had been the two of them drinking together.
"You sing so beautifully." Qin Dong sat down next to Chi Jia and raised his glass.
A smile that usually seemed pleasant now felt annoying to Chi Jia. Out of politeness, she still greeted him, but her indifference was apparent.
"When do you usually sing here? I'll come and support you."
"No need," Chi Jia replied perfunctorily. "I don't come here often."
Jing Rui arrived late tonight due to other commitments, missing Chi Jia's performance.
At their usual spot, she saw Chi Jia.
But tonight, Chi Jia wasn't alone; a tall man was sitting next to her.
Jing Rui found a random seat, occasionally glancing in Chi Jia's direction as she drank.
Jing Rui had initially wanted to go over and chat, but seeing Chi Jia chatting and laughing with the man, seemingly close, she decided to stay put and drink in silence.
"Are you waiting for someone?" Qin Dong noticed Chi Jia's wandering gaze.
Scanning the room, Chi Jia saw Jing Rui.
Even in a crowd, the vixen was the most beautiful, the most striking, and the most alluring.
"No..." Chi Jia replied to Qin Dong, her eyes still on Jing Rui. Miss Jing hadn't come to drink with her today; what a miracle.
When Jing Rui looked in Chi Jia's direction again, she saw Chi Jia looking at her.
Their eyes finally met.
Jing Rui smiled and raised her glass at Chi Jia, then continued drinking.
That smile captured Chi Jia's attention again.
"Busy lately? I see you always leave work late."
Chi Jia was too focused on the vixen to pay attention to Qin Dong beside her.
"Xiao Jia?"
Only through comparison did Chi Jia realize how much more enjoyable it was to drink with Jing Rui. She stood up, wanting to end the awkward conversation with Qin Dong. "Excuse me, I see my friend. I'll be right back."
"Xiao Jia..."
Nearing midnight, the nightlife was just beginning.
Jing Rui looked up again and saw Chi Jia heading towards her.
Chi Jia walked towards Jing Rui at a leisurely pace.
Jing Rui pretended not to notice, looking down at her drink, a smile playing on her lips...
Hmm, lol
