If It’s Wrong, Then It’s Wrong - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: The First Day
The closer Cheng Liu got to her boyfriend, the faster her heart beat.
He was so handsome!
His amber eyes were incredibly beautiful under the overhead lights, carrying a hint of coolness, his gaze clear and bright. His long, pale fingers held a bouquet of heavy, drooping white lily-of-the-valley. For a moment, it was hard to tell whether his hands or the flowers were whiter.
Just to pick her up, he had even dressed up and put in colored contacts, although the color suited him quite well.
Cheng Liu's gaze lingered from her boyfriend's face downwards, appreciating his well-defined fingers and long, straight legs before finally settling back on the white lily-of-the-valley.
Just two hours ago, she had heard the woman next to her on the plane mention lily-of-the-valley. Now her boyfriend had them too. Was sending lily-of-the-valley a recent trend?
She wondered if there was any special meaning behind it, probably just another marketing ploy by businesses.
Lost in thought, Cheng Liu took a few long strides towards her boyfriend and grabbed the lily-of-the-valley from his hand: “You didn’t have to bring flowers.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she saw her boyfriend frown slightly.
Even his frown was attractive!
Cheng Liu inwardly gasped, maintaining her usual calm expression, but silently reflected that she shouldn't have said that. It was unappreciative.
But apologizing didn’t seem right either.
Cheng Liu simply switched the flowers from her left hand to her right, which was holding her suitcase, then took her boyfriend’s hand and led him outwards: “Let’s go.”
As she turned, Cheng Liu noticed her boyfriend’s eyes widen slightly in surprise.
He must be surprised by her taking his hand for the first time.
Guilt pricked at Cheng Liu’s work-oriented heart. How could she have left her boyfriend to the side, completely neglected?
His hand felt so nice, warm and smooth.
However, after only two steps, Cheng Liu’s phone rang again, forcing her to let go of his hand.
“Ms. Cheng, you left a phone in your study. I couldn’t get through to you earlier. Should I mail it to you?”
It was the hotel manager.
Cheng Liu glanced at her computer bag. After talking to her boyfriend that night, she hadn’t put her phone inside. She must have left her personal phone behind in her haste to leave that afternoon.
But she rarely used her personal phone. Her family usually contacted her on the number she was currently using.
“Keep it at the hotel for now. I’ll pick it up next time I’m in G City,” Cheng Liu said.
She frequently visited G City, and her chief assistant had booked a long-term suite for her at this hotel. She didn’t really need her personal phone, so leaving it there wasn't a problem.
“Alright. I won't disturb you any further then.”
…
After receiving the call, Ji Chaozhou brought the lily-of-the-valley to the airport. After waiting for about half an hour, he saw Yun Fei emerge, pulling her suitcase.
She wasn't wearing a mask, not even sunglasses, her face completely exposed.
Yun Fei’s eyes met his, and a smile immediately appeared on her beautiful face. The whispers of the passengers who had been subtly watching her grew louder.
But she seemed oblivious, quickening her pace towards Ji Chaozhou with an air of reunion after a long separation.
Ji Chaozhou’s expression grew colder.
She was doing this on purpose.
Ji Chaozhou glanced around. Sure enough, several people with cameras had appeared nearby. They closed in, shifting their attention towards him, following Yun Fei's direction.
But before Ji Chaozhou could turn away, someone darted in front of him, snatching the lily-of-the-valley from his hand and speaking to him in a strangely familiar tone.
The entertainment reporters with their cameras froze for a moment, their picture-taking hesitant: This man, whose looks could outshine any young celebrity, wasn't the famous actress Yun Fei’s lover?
The next second, the woman in front of him grabbed Ji Chaozhou’s hand, turning him around, even gently stroking the back of his hand with her thumb.
No matter how calm Ji Chaozhou usually was, he was stunned in this moment.
But before he could shake her hand off, she released him to answer a phone call.
After a dozen seconds, she ended the call, put her phone in her pocket, turned slightly, reached out, and once again grabbed Ji Chaozhou's hand, walking away.
Ji Chaozhou frowned slightly, staring at the person in front of him. He was certain he didn’t know her.
It wasn't uncommon for people who liked him to use various excuses to approach him, with all sorts of absurd reasons.
But…this person’s actions were too natural, so natural that Ji Chaozhou momentarily wondered if he really did know her.
He turned his head slightly to look back. Yun Fei had clearly seen this scene and was equally shocked, stopping in her tracks. The surrounding passengers gradually surrounded her, asking for autographs and photos.
Ji Chaozhou lowered his long eyelashes, hiding his emotions. He didn't pull his hand away, allowing the person in front to lead him away.
Cheng Liu, walking ahead, naturally didn’t know what her “boyfriend” was thinking. She was still immersed in the joy of how nice his hand felt, striding outwards.
She also noticed a paparazzi with a large camera lens pointing at them.
As they passed, Cheng Liu let go of her suitcase handle and, holding the lily-of-the-valley, pointed at the paparazzi: “Don’t post anything.”
She had gained some fame in the business and technology sectors in recent years, but Cheng Liu didn't like her face appearing in tabloid news, so she gave a casual warning.
The paparazzi, who had been taking pictures indiscriminately due to confusion about the situation, looked up blankly from behind his camera: “Uh, okay.” He assumed this good-looking couple were just ordinary travelers sensitive to being photographed.
After they walked away, the paparazzi slowly came back to his senses. He glanced at the crowd gathered across the way and, after a moment of thought, gave up on trying to squeeze through. He had thought the news of Yun Fei’s lover picking her up was true, but it seemed to be a misunderstanding.
However, the couple who had just passed by were really good-looking, especially the man. Even he, a man, was momentarily captivated.
The paparazzi looked down at the few photos he had taken, somewhat reluctant to delete them. They were quite nice.
Recalling the woman’s warning, he decided not to publish them. Keeping them for himself shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Thinking this, his gaze fell on the woman holding the man’s hand in the photo. After a moment, he murmured softly, “Why does she look…familiar?”
At this moment, the woman whom the paparazzi found familiar, Cheng Liu, had already led her boyfriend to the parking lot. She opened the trunk of her car and put her luggage inside.
“Let’s add each other on WeChat,” Cheng Liu said, turning to her boyfriend who was standing beside her after closing the trunk.
Putting her boyfriend’s contact information on this phone felt a bit like mixing business with pleasure, but…
Cheng Liu looked up at her dazzlingly handsome boyfriend. Her bottom line wasn’t impossible to lower a bit further.
Seeing that he hadn’t moved, Cheng Liu looked down at her phone screen and brought up her QR code: “Scan it.”
From the moment she showed her WeChat to Ji Chaozhou, he couldn't help but see the list of contacts, his gaze stopping on a familiar name.
Was it someone he had sent?
Ji Chaozhou’s amber eyes swept over the woman who was only half a head shorter than him, his gaze landing on her WeChat ID.
—Number Six.
Her profile picture was a handgun pointing upwards, with the hand holding it pointing to the right.
Then he remembered her warning to the paparazzi just now.
A bodyguard?
Ji Chaozhou remained silent for a long time. Remembering what Aunt Yun had said, he finally took out his phone and added the bodyguard on WeChat.
Cheng Liu patiently waited for her boyfriend to add her, praising herself inwardly. Her boyfriend was just angry and sulking. It was right to coax him.
Moreover, her boyfriend had dressed up specially for her today. As his girlfriend, she should be generous. Occasionally lowering her head wasn't a big deal.
So, she took the initiative to open the passenger door, waiting for him to get in.
Cheng Liu had always achieved what she set her mind to. Now that she wanted to turn over a new leaf and be a doting girlfriend, she would definitely give it her all!
Now that Ji Chaozhou knew she was a bodyguard, he lost interest in figuring out what had happened at the airport. He got into the car indifferently.
Cheng Liu went around to the other side and sat in the driver's seat. As she drove out of the parking lot, she snuck a glance at her boyfriend, who was looking out the window.
After three months apart, even his profile had become more perfect.
Cheng Liu's heart pounded. She had originally planned to take her boyfriend directly to dinner, but now she felt a bit embarrassed. It would be better to go home, shower, and change clothes before their date.
After all, her boyfriend looked clean and pristine, while she had spent the morning wandering around a factory in G City before taking a flight back.
“Where…do you live?” Cheng Liu asked hesitantly.
As soon as she asked, Cheng Liu was struck with guilt. After six months of dating, she didn’t even know where her boyfriend lived.
“Wenxing Residential Complex, Building Five.” Ji Chaozhou didn't turn to look at her, returning to gazing out the window after speaking.
He wouldn’t make things difficult for a bodyguard.
The car ride was extremely quiet, only punctuated by Cheng Liu’s occasional glances at her still-sulking boyfriend.
At a red light, Cheng Liu stepped on the brakes, quickly glancing at her boyfriend’s long, elegant hand resting naturally at his side.
—She wanted to hold it.
But she had once heard a business partner say that you shouldn't touch an angry girlfriend carelessly. The same should apply to boyfriends.
Better not.
Appease him first.
Cheng Liu smoothly drove into the Wenxing Residential Complex and stopped in front of Building Five. Her phone vibrated. It was a message from her chief assistant saying that they were about to start the meeting.
She replied, then turned to her boyfriend, who was opening the car door: “I’ll pick you up for dinner at 8 pm, at Guyu Restaurant.”
Cheng Liu had booked a private room for the entire day, originally for the flexibility to come and go as she pleased.
The money wasn't wasted. Now she could go home, take a shower, and change into clean clothes.
Ji Chaozhou paused and returned to the car.
His anger had dissipated so quickly?
Cheng Liu looked at her boyfriend’s handsome face, her heart filled with joy. Before she could speak, she watched him pick up the lily-of-the-valley he had left in the car.
“…”
Was he even angrier now? He wouldn’t even leave the flowers for her?
Watching her boyfriend disappear inside, Cheng Liu sighed in the car. It was understandable that he was upset after she had neglected him for so long.
She held her phone, looking at her boyfriend’s newly added WeChat contact. He had changed his profile picture and even his username.
His previous profile picture had been a selfie of his profile, but now it was a glass vessel containing a pale yellow liquid, like a perfume bottle. His username was now simply “Zhou”.
Cheng Liu racked her brains, but she couldn't remember her boyfriend's original WeChat username, only vaguely recalling that it was an English name.
Was it Jerry or Tom?
Cheng Liu clicked on the contact details and hesitated, but didn’t type in “Wang Haiyang”. Now, she felt the name didn’t suit her boyfriend.
And it felt too distant!
In the end, she typed in “Boyfriend” as his contact name.
After a while, Cheng Liu turned the car around and headed towards her own place. It was just coaxing her boyfriend. She could definitely do it.
Wasn’t he just angry that she hadn’t contacted him for a long time?
From today onwards, she, Cheng Liu, guaranteed she would accompany her boyfriend every day!
