If It’s Wrong, Then It’s Wrong - Chapter 15
Chapter 15: The Fourth Day
Cheng Liu put down her phone, carefully reviewing her conversation with the employee. Gifts didn't need to be expensive, but they had to convey sincerity.
So, what kind of gift could express her deep affection?
Cheng Liu racked her brains but couldn't come up with anything. Finally, she picked up her phone, opened Taobao, and typed in the search bar: [Gifts that symbolize unwavering love].
The next second, a series of products appeared. Two gifts in particular caught her attention.
One was a stainless steel plaque, and the other was a brick engraved with the words “Solid as a Rock.”
These two gifts were definitely sincere!
One would never rust, and the other was heavy and solid.
CEO Cheng was immediately tempted.
However…after clicking on the product details, Cheng Liu wasn't entirely satisfied.
The stainless steel plaque wasn’t flashy enough, and it was too cheap, not worthy of her boyfriend.
The brick wouldn’t do either. It was too cheap, and there was the risk of it breaking in two if it fell on the floor.
This was supposed to represent the unbreakable bond between her and her boyfriend. If it broke, wouldn't that imply their relationship would break too?
Absolutely not.
Cheng Liu stared at the product page for a moment, then, using her talent for extrapolation, finally decided on the perfect gift.
She immediately stood up and strode out of her office.
“Where are you going?” He Bai looked up from his computer screen as Cheng Liu emerged. She had only been in her office for about ten minutes.
“I’m going to the bank,” Cheng Liu said without turning back, hurrying out of the company.
…
Half an hour later, Cheng Liu was sitting in a VIP room at a bank, the bank manager sitting opposite her.
After hearing Cheng Liu’s request, a crack appeared in the bank manager’s polished composure, but years of professional training allowed her to maintain a calm demeanor as she asked again, “Are you sure?”
“Yes,” Cheng Liu confirmed.
She was a private banking client, and Shenyin Technology was a major borrower, so the bank prioritized her requests. Even the bank manager herself was attending to her.
The bank manager made a few phone calls, then, maintaining her professional smile, explained to Cheng Liu, “CEO Cheng, we may not have enough physical gold in stock. We’ll need to have it transferred from our headquarters. Also, the…gold plaque and two gold bars you requested will need to be custom-made, so it might take a bit longer.”
“When will they be ready?” Cheng Liu asked.
The bank manager said, “They’ll be ready on the morning of the 6th.”
“Alright. I’ll come pick them up then.” Cheng Liu swiped her card, signed the contract, and stood up to leave.
The bank manager stood up as well, looking at Cheng Liu hesitantly.
“Is there something else?” Cheng Liu asked, turning back.
“CEO Cheng, what made you decide to give such a gift to your boyfriend?” The bank manager finally couldn't resist asking.
Having worked at the bank for twenty years, the manager had seen all kinds of people, including wealthy individuals with peculiar tastes. She had always considered Cheng Liu to be a practical and straightforward young woman, but she hadn't expected this.
“A gleaming, solid gold plaque engraved with the words ‘Our love is as solid as a rock.’ After we get married, this gold plaque can be hung in the center of our living room. As for the two gold bars, they represent my wishes for our future.” When talking about her boyfriend, Cheng Liu became animated. She looked at the bank manager and said, “And gold is pure and unpretentious.”
The bank manager was speechless: Pure? Unpretentious?
“Don’t you think so, Manager?” Cheng Liu asked, noticing her expression.
“…It is very pure,” the bank manager said, forcing a smile. She couldn’t question a client’s taste, especially when that client was one of their biggest.
Cheng Liu was satisfied with the bank manager’s response. She couldn't wait for the 6th to arrive.
As the bank manager escorted her to the door, Cheng Liu suddenly remembered something: “Please remember to attach a large red flower to the gold plaque.”
“A r-red flower?” The bank manager was taken aback.
“Like the large red flowers used in traditional weddings in period dramas. Please arrange one for me and attach it to the gold plaque.” Cheng Liu held the bank manager’s hand, her expression serious. “My future happiness is in your hands. Please make sure it’s done well.”
The bank manager hesitated: “…Wouldn't that be a bit too festive?”
“That’s the point,” Cheng Liu said firmly. Then, with sincerity, she added, “I’ll definitely invite you to be a witness at my wedding, Manager.”
“It’s our pleasure to serve you, CEO Cheng,” the bank manager said, somewhat flattered. Having received such a significant promise from CEO Cheng, her performance targets would surely be easier to achieve in the future.
Cheng Liu left the bank feeling refreshed and returned to the company.
Now that she had resolved the gift issue, she was full of energy and focused on her work.
Later, He Bai knocked on her door and walked over to her desk: “Time for lunch.”
Cheng Liu finally put down the documents and reports and looked up at the clock. It was 2:30 pm.
“You haven’t eaten yet?” Cheng Liu stood up. “Next time, just go ahead and eat. You don’t have to wait for me.”
“I was dealing with something and lost track of time,” He Bai said casually. He opened the office door for Cheng Liu. “What do you want to eat today?”
“Let’s see what’s available in the cafeteria.” Cheng Liu walked ahead, taking out her phone and messaging her boyfriend.
Number Six: [Have you eaten? Don't forget to eat. It’s not good for your stomach.]
As a model, his eating schedule was probably irregular.
Although Cheng Liu often skipped meals or ate at odd hours, she had an exceptionally strong constitution and boundless energy, her annual health checkups surprising doctors with her perfect results.
Her boyfriend didn’t reply.
It was normal. He was busy with work. Cheng Liu understood, comforting herself.
“A business partner has been wanting to meet with us,” He Bai said, standing behind Cheng Liu. “Should we schedule a meeting?”
“Which company?” Cheng Liu asked, putting away her phone and looking at He Bai’s reflection in the elevator mirror.
He Bai told her the company name.
“Let’s meet them,” Cheng Liu agreed.
“Should I schedule it for the evening of the 6th?” He Bai asked, lowering his head to hide his expression.
“Evening?” Cheng Liu hesitated. What if her boyfriend needed her to pick him up then?
“Is that a problem?” He Bai looked up. Cheng Liu had nothing scheduled for the next few days.
“Try to finish before 9 pm,” Cheng Liu said, then immediately corrected herself, “8:30 pm.”
A good girlfriend wouldn't keep her boyfriend waiting!
“Alright, then I’ll book a table at Yese Restaurant,” He Bai said, making a note on his phone.
Cheng Liu looked at his phone screen: “Why not Guyu Restaurant? I thought that place was quite nice.”
“You…like Guyu Restaurant?” He Bai was surprised.
Cheng Liu touched her nose: “The atmosphere is good.”
“Should I change it to Guyu Restaurant then?” He Bai asked. “But I’ve heard that this business partner prefers Western food.”
“Forget it. Yese Restaurant is fine,” Cheng Liu said after a moment of thought. Yese Restaurant was closer to the Ranshan building.
“Okay.”
They walked to the cafeteria, where a few employees were still having lunch.
Cheng Liu chose a corner seat, away from the employees, so they wouldn’t feel uncomfortable.
However, she was unaware that the employees were quietly discussing the identity of CEO Cheng's mysterious boyfriend.
One group firmly believed it was Chief Assistant He. Their reasoning was simple.
CEO Cheng was always busy with work, traveling constantly, and Chief Assistant He was the one who spent the most time with her.
See? They even had lunch together!
The other group believed the rumors in the chat group and were speculating about CEO Cheng’s boyfriend’s identity.
Ever since the employee from the 17th floor had dropped that bombshell, the discussion in the group chat had been non-stop, more active than ever before.
Just as everyone was excitedly discussing, someone suddenly spoke up.
Little Horn Toot Toot: [I know who it is.]
Shenyin Small Screw: [Who? How do you know? Have you seen him?]
Little Horn Toot Toot: [I know CEO Cheng’s boyfriend.]
The group chat exploded!
Countless “Who is it?” messages flooded the screen.
Little Horn Toot Toot: [He’s a B-list model. He’s really good-looking.]
Shenyin Small Screw: [What’s his name? Do you have a photo?]
Little Horn Toot Toot: [Wang Hongyang. You can search for him. He’s really handsome.]
Shenyin was full of software engineers, all familiar with the internet.
Just a minute later, the group chat was filled with photos of Wang Hongyang, modeling photos and even runway videos.
Shenyin Big Wrench: [No wonder he’s CEO Cheng’s boyfriend. He’s gorgeous. drooling.jpg]
Love Spicy Devil: [His name sounds so awful. Why doesn’t he use a stage name?]
Shenyin Small Screw: [How did he manage to snag CEO Cheng?]
Little Horn Toot Toot: [His family is very traditional. They believe Wang Hongyang’s name is connected to his destiny because he lacks the water element, so they won't let him change it. Also, according to his Moments, CEO Cheng was the one who pursued him.]
The last sentence triggered another round of heated discussion.
Meanwhile, Cheng Liu and He Bai were completely unaware of the gossip circulating in the company chat group.
As she ate, Cheng Liu scrolled through her phone, researching relationship advice.
…
At 9 pm, Cheng Liu waited outside the Ranshan building, tapping her fingers on the steering wheel, thinking about what to say.
A few minutes later, her boyfriend emerged from the building.
Cheng Liu immediately got out and opened the car door for him.
Ji Chaozhou, after a long day of work, leaned back against the seat and closed his eyes.
Seeing this, Cheng Liu swallowed her words and drove silently.
As they entered the Wenxing Residential Complex, Cheng Liu paid extra attention to the roads. The fire lane had been cleared.
The property management company was quite efficient.
The car stopped in front of Building Five. Cheng Liu was hesitating whether to wake him up when he opened his eyes, unbuckled his seatbelt, and was about to get out.
“Wait,” Cheng Liu said.
Ji Chaozhou turned to look at her, his gaze indifferent: “Is there something else?”
“My phone number,” Cheng Liu stammered. “Um, could you add me as an emergency contact?”
She had read online that couples should set each other as emergency contacts. If someone was willing to entrust their safety to you, it meant they were truly committed to the relationship.
This wasn't an unusual request for a bodyguard.
Ji Chaozhou took out his phone: “Your number.”
Cheng Liu quickly recited her phone number. They had been dating for six months, but she hadn’t even saved his number.
He added Number Six as an emergency contact and called her.
Her ringtone echoed in the car.
Ji Chaozhou looked at her: “Done?”
Cheng Liu said faintly, “Done.”
Ji Chaozhou hung up, opened the car door, and walked towards the building entrance.
Cheng Liu watched his receding figure, feeling a surge of emotion: Her boyfriend had added her as an emergency contact without hesitation!
He was willing to entrust his life to her!
At that moment, CEO Cheng could practically hear wedding bells.
Although her boyfriend still had a cold expression, he clearly loved her very much!
I love her rose-coloured delusions <3
