Returning - Chapter 116
Chapter 116: Sugar-Coated Bullet
Zhao Yu had always understood the principle that "if you always walk by the river, your shoes are bound to get wet." Especially after nearly being spotted by Zhuang Ye at the mall last time, she had been even more careful about going to public places, trying her best to avoid contact with people. She never imagined that despite being so cautious, she would still run into Xu Chenghe.
She instinctively glanced toward the private room where Xue Zi'ang was, and after making sure no one was in the hallway, she steadied herself and asked with confusion, "And you are?"
"What? Don't remember me?" Xu Chenghe wore a frivolous expression. "I remember you. If it weren't for the fact that you're my big brother's woman, I would have already..."
At this point, he suddenly smiled maliciously: "But my big brother doesn't lack a woman like you. Why don't you come with me instead?"
Zhao Yu shot him a cold glare, stood up, and headed toward the restroom.
Xu Chenghe stepped in front of her with a grin. "Can't bear to leave my big brother? What's so good about him? He's getting on in years, who knows if he can still perform in bed, and he has that fierce fiancée. Once he gets married, you'll be out of options."
"Why don't you ask him yourself if he can perform in bed?" Zhao Yu smiled as she raised her phone, showing him the call interface. "Want to hear his response?"
Seeing the name "Xu Chengyan" on the screen, Xu Chenghe's expression changed. "You..."
Zhao Yu, all smiles, brought the phone close to Xu Chenghe's ear. "Listen for yourself."
Whatever Xu Chengyan said to Xu Chenghe, it was highly likely a scolding. After listening, the latter's face filled with anger, and he shot Zhao Yu a resentful glare before heading toward the elevator.
Zhao Yu let out a long sigh of relief and, while keeping an eye on the direction of the private room, picked up the call again. "Would President Xu mind sharing a woman with his cousin?"
Hearing Xu Chengyan's cold snort on the other end, she smiled again. "Then I'll trouble President Xu to handle this himself. I'm afraid I might run into him again by accident, and that Young Master Xu will keep pestering me."
Xu Chengyan asked, "Where are you? How did you run into him?"
"I don't think I have an obligation to report my whereabouts to President Xu." After saying this, Zhao Yu hung up decisively and temporarily added Xu Chengyan to her blacklist to prevent him from calling back and ruining things.
The uncle and nephew spoke for a very long time. Zhao Yu waited outside for quite a while before she saw Xue Zhan walking in her direction, but there was no one behind him—Xue Zi'ang still hadn't come out.
"Let's go." He glanced at Zhao Yu indifferently. "He'll get back on his own."
Seeing Zhao Yu follow behind him but take two steps before involuntarily glancing back, he suddenly smiled and asked, "Still care about him?"
Zhao Yu shook her head and remained silent.
Over the next few days, Xue Zi'ang still didn't come to the office. It was unclear if he was still drowning his sorrows.
Xue Zhan's mood seemed better than before. Although the ambiguous, unclear relationship between him and Zhao Yu persisted, Zhao Yu could clearly feel that their relationship had changed—at the very least, he wasn't deliberately keeping his distance from her anymore.
On Thursday, Xue Zhan had to go on a business trip and took Gu Shuyang with him.
Before leaving, he called Zhao Yu into his office and asked, "I'm not taking you. Any thoughts on that?"
Zhao Yu was momentarily stunned by his question and shook her head repeatedly. "The things Special Assistant Gu knows—I might not necessarily know them."
Xue Zhan smiled and kissed her on the forehead. "This time I need Gu Shuyang to help me. Next business trip, I'll take you."
After all the turmoil, their relationship had finally made a bit of progress, and Zhao Yu quietly breathed a sigh of relief inside.
On Friday afternoon, Wang Qi, exhausted and drained, kept sighing over the work schedule. "Whenever the boss is on a business trip, there's so much to do. I absolutely hate it."
Seeing her face already deathly pale from menstrual cramps, Zhao Yu said, "I'll help you."
"Don't you have two reports to write? Director Xue specifically asked for those—I wouldn't dare hold up your time."
"They're not due until next Monday. I can write them tomorrow." Zhao Yu took her schedule and looked it over. "This much?"
Wang Qi nodded. "Isn't being a secretary about handling all the errands?"
Zhao Yu handed her the brown sugar from her drawer. "Take care of yourself. I'll be your secretary today."
The tasks Wang Qi had to do were all miscellaneous, nothing too difficult for Zhao Yu. However, one of them was to deliver materials to Yicheng Technology.
Zhao Yu's first instinct was to avoid it—after all, that was Xu Chengyan's company. What if Zhuang Yiqing or Zhuang Ye suddenly showed up there?
But looking at Wang Qi's pitiful state, slumped over the desk, she couldn't bear it. She could only try to probe Ji Sui about the situation on his end.
Ji Sui was easy to manipulate. By occasionally throwing a little tantrum or pretending to be jealous of other women, he would immediately rush to prove his innocence. Not only did he clearly report what he was doing, but he also revealed Zhuang Yiqing's whereabouts and, under Zhao Yu's guidance, added Zhuang Ye's as well.
Once she confirmed that neither sibling was in Donghai, Zhao Yu finally felt at ease about delivering the materials. But to be cautious, she pretended to have a cold and put on a mask.
The materials weren't meant for Xu Chengyan, and she had no intention of seeing him. But before she even arrived at Yicheng, she received a call from Wang Qi saying that Yicheng had changed their mind and wanted her to deliver the materials directly to Xu Chengyan.
For a moment, Zhao Yu vaguely sensed something was off, but it was just a fleeting, hazy thought. She was focused on driving and didn't dwell on it.
Xu Chengyan wasn't surprised to see her. Instead, he looked completely unsurprised and knowing. "So eager to see me?"
Looking at his narcissistic expression, Zhao Yu chuckled dryly. "Isn't it President Xu who's eager to see me? Otherwise, why would materials clearly meant for Vice President Cheng suddenly be redirected to President Xu?"
Xu Chengyan smiled as he took the materials from her hands and flipped through them, his eyes brazenly sizing up her fine figure wrapped in professional attire. Satisfied, he nodded.
Understanding his look, Zhao Yu deliberately bowed to him very respectfully. "The materials have been delivered. President Xu may review them at his leisure. I'll take my leave now."
She had just turned and taken two steps when a strong arm pulled her back. She fell into his embrace and looked up at him with an innocent expression. "What does President Xu want? This is an office."
"Fucking you in the office is even better, isn't it?" Xu Chengyan pushed her against the desk, his eyes fixed intently on her as his hands unhurriedly unbuttoned his suit jacket.
Zhao Yu leaned back, propping herself up as she lazily rested against the desk, watching him with leisurely composure. "The glasses I gave you? You didn't throw them away, did you?"
Xu Chengyan lifted his chin toward the office. "Second drawer."
Zhao Yu flipped over and sprawled across the desk, pulling open the drawer and slowly rummaging through it. "Where? I can't find them."
Seeing her pert buttocks pointed straight at him through the tight skirt, with that slender waist above twisting in an incredibly seductive manner, Xu Chengyan threw his suit jacket to the floor, pressed himself against her, and grabbed her full buttocks with two firm squeezes.
Zhao Yu moaned out loud and turned her head to look at him with a pitiful expression. "I only came to deliver materials. How can President Xu do something so utterly beastly?"
"Slut." Glancing at the deep cleavage she was deliberately showing him, Xu Chengyan pulled her up, snatched the gold-rimmed glasses from her hand, and used the temple tip to slowly hook open her collar.
