Chapter 234
A priest who can't cast light magic is an ant that can be crushed at will. But a priest who can cast light magic is trouble for the Blood Demon.
Especially when that person was holding Cynthia's Staff.
Others might not know the astonishing origin of Cynthia's Staff, but she, who had lived in the Age of Gods, knew it crystal clear.
A second staff like this couldn't be forged on the entire continent. Setting aside how precious the Light Crystal at its tip, left behind by the Light Goddess, was, the seemingly ordinary staff itself was actually cut from a tree personally planted by the Goddess of the Forest.
An ordinary staff gathers and condenses the surrounding light elements. Cynthia's Staff, however, was different. The light elements within the Light Crystal were endless, pure, and dense. As long as the caster had enough spiritual power, the Power of Light would never be exhausted.
The dense, almost tangible golden light pierced the Blood Demon's body. The Power of Light aggressively eroded her from within. It showed no fear of the Power of Darkness in her body, rampaging and invading with defiant clamor. Her formidable self-healing ability could quickly mend the wounds on her body, but as long as the Power of Light persisted, her body would be trapped in a cycle of damage and regeneration.
The Power of Darkness in her body resisted unwillingly. The Blood Demon's expression twisted several times before she roared ferociously, "So what if you're a Cardinal? Do you think you can kill me?"
Her body was immobilized, but her hands had some freedom of movement. Condensing a mass of black energy in her palm, the Blood Demon moved the hand gripping Tang Qiu's shoulder downward. The black energy formed a dagger that viciously stabbed into the arm Tang Qiu was using to hold the staff.
Blood soaked her sleeve. Tang Qiu's face paled, and she let out a muffled groan of pain. Her hand trembled, but she didn't move it an inch. She looked up and saw the unease hidden beneath the Blood Demon's crazed expression. She smiled faintly and said in a low voice, "You're afraid."
It was a statement, not a question.
The Blood Demon's expression froze. She glared at Tang Qiu, grinding her teeth, and tossed aside the dagger of black energy. With her right hand, she began to summon her spear from below.
The sealed spear sensed its master's call and began to struggle violently. It broke through the seal and shot into the Blood Demon's hand with a whoosh.
The Blood Demon gripped the spear and gave a savage grin. She pressed the sharp, pointed tip against Tang Qiu's waist and mercilessly thrust it in. They were too close; Tang Qiu had no time to dodge. A sharp pain shot through her waist, her vision went black, and blood rushed up her throat. She bent over and spat out a large mouthful of blood, coughing in agony.
The Blood Demon laughed loudly, her eyes filled with malice as she stared at Tang Qiu. "Are you scared now?" she taunted.
As she spoke, she tried to push the spear further to impale Tang Qiu completely, but it wouldn't budge. The Blood Demon frowned and looked down. A blood-soaked hand was gripping the spear, trying to pull the tip out bit by bit.
Tang Qiu's head was bowed, her expression hidden. Her hair flickered between gold and white, and the aura around her was extremely unstable, fluctuating between strong and weak. However, the bleeding wounds on her body were slowly healing.
A force equal to her own was fighting the Blood Demon for control of the spear. The Power of Light was breaking down the Blood Demon's power, and she could clearly feel her strength slowly waning. She let out an unwilling roar.
Tang Qiu pulled the spear out of her body, inch by inch. She looked up, meeting the Blood Demon's incredulous gaze. Though her face was as pale as paper, her tone was incomparably calm. "Didn't I tell you? I'm a werewolf."
"If you can't kill me in one blow, then just wait obediently to be sealed again."
As her words fell, a dazzling golden light erupted between them, completely engulfing them. The Power of Light burned the Blood Demon's will. She raised a hand to shield her eyes, but it was useless. She stared viciously at Tang Qiu opposite her and gritted her teeth. "Damn you, you damned werewolf."
Anger and hatred intertwined in the Blood Demon's heart. She was beginning to feel afraid. She had only just gotten out; she didn't want to return to that sealed place.
She wanted to break free from Tang Qiu, to tear this person to shreds, but she couldn't. The Blood Demon could feel the Power of Light starting to erode her will.
Facing the Blood Demon's hate-filled gaze, Tang Qiu just smiled faintly and mouthed silently, "Let's see who's harder to kill."
The successive bursts of golden light grew larger and more magnificent each time. This final explosion seemed to cover the entire sky. Within the golden light, the figures of Tang Qiu and the Blood Demon were faintly visible, but their specific situation couldn't be seen clearly.
The might of the golden light was too powerful. The demonic beasts below trembled in fear. The Elves, werewolves, and the Holy See all involuntarily stopped and looked up at the golden light in the sky with shock and uncertainty.
The Elves and werewolves didn't understand light magic, so they stared at the golden light with blank faces. The people of the Holy See, however, after their initial confusion, quickly realized what was happening. Someone exclaimed, "That's God's Light! Has His Holiness the Pope arrived?"
The battle had raged for so long, yet the Pope hadn't even shown his face. Although the members of the Holy See appeared composed, they were actually feeling deeply uneasy.
Now, seeing the appearance of God's Light, most of their faces lit up with joy.
Jennifer, fighting on the front lines, also looked up at the golden light. She was very familiar with Tang Qiu. After trying to make out the figure for a moment, she muttered to herself, "...That's not the Pope. That's Cardinal Grace."
Though her voice was quiet, the bishops next to her heard it. They looked at each other and said in shocked tones, "It's Cardinal Grace?"
"It really does look like Cardinal Grace..."
"But she's using a forbidden technique."
"How is that possible..."
The news that it was Grace, not the Pope, using the forbidden technique quickly spread through the Holy See's ranks. Most of them slowly accepted this fact after their initial shock.
After all, the figure in the golden light did indeed look more like Cardinal Grace.
There was no one left in the entire Holy See who didn't know who Grace was.
When she was still a bishop, she was the first to drive out the darkness and stabilize the entire Gosse Empire. She was another Cardinal, after Reese, who had been promoted with astonishing speed.
Moreover, the reason the werewolves and Elves were now fighting alongside them was all because of her.
She was on good terms with the Elf Queen, on good terms with the Wolf Race Clan Leader, and even had a powerful vampire friend. Thinking about it carefully, it wasn't so surprising that she could use a forbidden technique.
Although every one of those things was against the rules of the Holy See, who would care about that at a time like this? They only knew that someone had finally stepped forward at the Holy See's moment of life and death.
God's Light was enough to slowly calm their hearts, which had been drifting uncertainly like seaweed.
Compared to the complex emotional journey of the Holy See, the Elves and werewolves were much simpler. The former, seeing their "generous friend" was so powerful, all revealed happy smiles. The latter, especially the young werewolves who recognized Tang Qiu, all raised their heads with pride. Their Young Master was truly amazing.
As for why their werewolf Young Master could use such powerful light magic, they didn't want to think about it at a time like this.
God's Light occupied the entire sky. The black vortex curled into a ball, trembling in a corner. The Saintess, whose light magic had been dispersed twice by the Blood Demon, saw this and forced herself to stand up from the ground. She raised her staff again with a heavy arm and chanted a spell in a hoarse voice.
Reese, Vogt, and the others also ignored their injuries, raised their staves, and followed the Saintess, continuing to chant the spell they had already chanted countless times.
The golden river of light condensed once more. Under the cover of the golden light from God's Light, it moved toward the black vortex, tirelessly attempting to seal it. The black vortex struggled unwillingly, but this time, the Blood Demon could no longer help it.
The appearance of God's Light gave everyone a sense of a turning point. Their eyes, fixed on the golden light, were filled with anticipation. But Lucille sensed something was wrong. She sniffed the air a few times and caught a familiar scent that instantly made her expression turn cold. Worry and unease flashed in her eyes.
No one was more familiar with the scent of Tang Qiu's blood than she was. She... was bleeding... Lucille looked up at the golden light, her body swaying. Just as she was about to go check on the situation, a hand grabbed her wrist.
Because of the golden light's exclusivity, Faye had already retreated from above. Seeing Lucille's expression, she knew what she wanted to do and persuaded her in a deep voice, "You can't go near. You're a vampire. The golden light will attack you."
Lucille frowned and unhappily shook off her hand. Seeing that she hadn't given up the idea of going up, Faye had to try another approach. "If you go, you'll divert the golden light's attack power."
Tang Qiu had no spare attention to control the Power of Light right now. Faye had retreated with Ophelia precisely because she had sensed a warning from the golden light.
Faye's words silenced Lucille. She stared at the golden light for a long moment, then turned away with a cold expression, clenching her hands into fists as she strode toward the beast.
This beast that had escaped from the Dark World was unexpectedly difficult to deal with. It was still full of life. It also seemed wary of the golden light, but it was much stronger than the other trembling demonic beasts.
Seeing Lucille approach, it even let out a few provocative low growls. Lucille's heart was already filled with simmering anger. Seeing the beast's provocation, she snorted coldly. Her figure vanished from the spot, and when she reappeared, she had already swung the beast through the air, smashing it violently onto the ground.
Lucille flexed her arms and attacked again. The beast was beaten back step by step, only able to let out angry roars.
Delphine, who had been coordinating with Lucille to attack the beast, had been put in a sorry state by it, and her temper was flaring. Seeing Lucille get the beast under control, her eyes narrowed. She placed her fingers on the bowstring and instantly condensed three green arrows.
Red cracks appeared on her fair, slender palm, and beads of blood emerged from the broken skin, only to be absorbed by the green arrows in the next second. The space around the longbow distorted slightly. Time around her seemed to stand still, with dust hanging motionless in the air.
Delphine bit her lip, drew the bowstring taut, and slowly aimed at the beast's neck. The frozen time suddenly began to move again. As the dust drifted downward, a sharp, piercing sound rang out as the three green arrows shot forward with a whoosh.
They pierced through space and stabbed viciously into the beast's neck. The beast let out a tragic roar, its body swaying. Lucille, seeing the arrows were only halfway in, flipped onto the beast's back, grabbed the arrows, and forcefully pushed them down.
The beast struggled with all its might but eventually exhausted its strength and collapsed to the ground. It stared with eyes as wide as bronze bells, its chest heaving violently, its ragged breaths like the howling of a gale.
Lucille was half-kneeling on the beast's back, about to deliver the final, fatal blow, when the golden light that had occupied the sky suddenly receded like a tide. The scent of Tang Qiu's blood grew stronger. Lucille turned her head. After the golden light faded, she saw two figures, one white and one red, falling from the sky. Her expression changed, and her body instinctively shot forward.
Tang Qiu and the Blood Demon fell incredibly fast. The golden light had barely dissipated before their figures had already vanished.
Deep in the dense forest, Tang Qiu crashed heavily to the ground. She was covered in blood and riddled with wounds, but her eyes were exceptionally bright. She used Cynthia's Staff to support herself and stand up. Her injuries were slowly healing under the werewolf's powerful self-regeneration. Tang Qiu clutched her chest, coughed up a mouthful of blood, and scanned her surroundings, searching for something.
She was now incredibly grateful that she was a werewolf. With injuries like these, only a werewolf could still be standing.
The place she had fallen was the Blood Demon's sealing ground. The bodies of the Garcia clan lay on the ground, peaceful and serene. Tang Qiu stepped over the bodies and staggered toward the spot where the Blood Demon had fallen.
The sealing ground was wide open. The Blood Demon lay inside with her eyes tightly shut, the spear resting quietly beside her. She was not sleeping peacefully; her eyelashes trembled as if she were struggling to wake up, but her sealed consciousness prevented her from controlling her body or her actions.
Tang Qiu walked over and looked down at the Blood Demon. She raised her heavy arm, pressed Cynthia's Staff to the Blood Demon's forehead, and murmured to herself, "...It seems I've won."
Golden light burst from the tip of the staff. The Blood Demon's trembling eyelashes slowly stilled. Under the golden light's illumination, the cracked earth slowly closed until not a single fissure remained. The golden light flickered once, then seeped into the ground.
After doing all this, Tang Qiu raised a hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead. Her vision was blurry. She took a few steps back to lean against a tree trunk, biting her tongue to try and stay conscious, but in the end, her vision went black, and she collapsed powerlessly to the side.
A pair of slender arms caught her falling body. Tang Qiu sensed a familiar presence, and the unease in her heart faded. She leaned against Lucille, unable to hold on any longer, and fell directly into a deep sleep.
Lucille's face was taut as she held Tang Qiu, feeling both tense and helpless. It wasn't until she felt Tang Qiu's faint breath on her neck that her rigid body slowly relaxed.
She raised a hand to stroke Tang Qiu's golden hair, her cool lips gently kissing her forehead. Feeling the warmth of her skin, Lucille let out a heavy sigh of relief.
She had never felt such panic as she had just moments ago. When she saw the blood that was so delicious to her soaking Tang Qiu's robes, Lucille had no desire to drink it; she only felt fear.
Thankfully, the person in her arms was all right. Otherwise... Lucille simply didn't know what she might have done.
