Chapter 233
The vast lands of the Shas Principality had long been turned to scorched earth by the war. The Holy See, the werewolves, and the elves had all tacitly set up layers of protective barriers, trapping the demonic beasts emerging from the Dark World within the Shas Principality and giving them no chance to escape.
As time went on, the fierce and brutal battle slowly split into three fronts. Tang Qiu, Faye, and Ophelia blocked the awakened Blood Demon, while Lucille and Delphine focused on dealing with the beasts from the Dark World.
The elves and werewolves, with the coordination of the Holy See, reaped the lives of the demonic beasts. The situation seemed to favor the side of light, but in reality, everyone knew they could not delay any longer. Demonic beasts poured out of the Dark World in an endless stream. If the battle dragged on, they would undoubtedly be the ones worn down.
Reese arrived at the position the Holy Daughter had indicated. Holy Knights surrounded her, protecting her from any interference as she chanted her spell. The ground beneath her feet trembled, and a fierce wind whipped up sand and stones as if cheering for the demonic beasts. Reese took a deep breath. She turned her head slightly; the figures of the monsters blocked her view, and she could no longer see Monica. Still, she lowered her eyes and gave a soft chuckle.
This time, she really had to get serious. Reese raised her eyes to gaze at the black vortex in the sky, slowly lifted her staff, and began to chant a spell in a low voice. She might not protect the Holy See, but she absolutely had to protect Monica.
A golden light condensed at the tip of her staff. At first, it was just a pinpoint of light, but it slowly expanded into a golden river. Fine beads of sweat appeared on Reese's forehead. The fierce wind whipped her robes and hair into a mess, but she paid it no mind, her chanting voice firm and fluid.
The golden river of light imperiously devoured the power of darkness blocking its path, flying toward the sky like a sharp sword. At the same time, from the opposite direction, another golden river of light flew up to merge with the sword.
The chanting continued. Reese looked up, her brow furrowing slightly as she watched the river of light being pulled and torn apart by the black mist. She glanced in several other directions; Vogt and the others were a bit too slow.
With only the power of light from Reese and the Holy Daughter, it was of course impossible to contend with the black vortex. Reese crushed a ring to replenish some of her power of light. The golden river struggled to hold on for a long time before support finally arrived.
Three beams of golden light broke through the obstruction of darkness and successfully merged with the golden river. The dim sky instantly brightened. The heavens, once shrouded in darkness, now had half their territory imperiously claimed by the light. The black vortex, which had been channeling demonic beasts to the continent, paused and trembled in a fluster, appearing extremely wary of the golden light.
The golden river of light and the black vortex were locked in a stalemate, neither able to consume the other. Although the golden light could not yet seal the vortex, it had successfully cut off its supply of demonic beasts.
The situation was instantly reversed. The demonic beasts were suppressed and beaten back by the elves, werewolves, and the Holy See, and a large number were quickly cleared out.
The golden light soon caught the Blood Demon's attention. She brandished her spear, knocking Tang Qiu and the other two back. Tilting her head, she stared at the golden light with a flash of disgust in her eyes. She hurled her spear, and a red fiery light shot toward the river of light, piercing it viciously. The slowly flowing golden light suddenly paused, then powerlessly dissipated into specks of light that vanished into the air.
Reese, the Holy Daughter, and the others all turned pale, then bent over and spat out a mouthful of blood.
The Blood Demon recalled her spear. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Lucille fighting the beasts. A wicked smile crossed her face. With a flick of her wrist, the spear shot silently toward Lucille's back.
A white figure shot out like lightning and seized the spear. The Blood Demon stared at Tang Qiu's back, slightly stunned, a flicker of doubt in her eyes. This person didn't seem this strong just now, did she?
But the Blood Demon's doubt lasted only a second before two giant white wolves pounced from her left and right, interrupting her thoughts.
The spear was scorching hot, like holding a ball of fire. Tang Qiu glanced impassively at the Blood Demon. She forcefully threw the spear downward, plunging it into the earth. A beam of golden light silently descended and sealed it firmly underground.
Tang Qiu flew back, transforming into a white wolf mid-air and rejoining the battle.
As a general of the Dark God, the Blood Demon had fought in countless battles, large and small, by her side. Although she was surrounded by three white wolves, there was no panic in her expression; instead, she grew progressively more excited.
She reached out, intending to summon her spear back, but unexpectedly, the spear didn't react at all. The Blood Demon was puzzled, but seeing the white wolves pouncing at her, she could only suppress her doubt for now. She wrapped an arm around one wolf's neck and flung it away.
Aside from a few battle maniacs among the Vampires, the werewolf royals could be considered the most powerful warriors on the continent. The Blood Demon's initial impatience gradually gave way to a rising battle spirit.
The more she fought, the more excited she became, not even noticing that the golden light was beginning to coalesce in the sky again. Her mind was completely focused on the white wolves.
Below, Reese and the others rested for a moment before forcing themselves to begin chanting again. The golden river of light reappeared in the sky, imperiously reclaiming the territory that had been seized by the black vortex.
"You little wolves think you can stop me?" The Blood Demon's hand pierced through Faye's shoulder, cruelly crushing her shoulder blade. Her tone was arrogant. "When I was fighting under the Dark God, the God of War hadn't even created you yet."
Among the three, Ophelia was slightly weaker, yet the Blood Demon didn't target her. It was as if she was deliberately picking on Faye, the strongest.
Ophelia lunged forward in a rage, driving the Blood Demon back. Tang Qiu reverted to her human form and helped Faye retreat. Faye's face was pale, but her expression was calm, as if she couldn't feel the pain.
Tang Qiu took out several vials of Holy Water of Light and said in a low voice, "Heal your wound first."
Faye raised her other hand to rub her brow, smearing blood on her forehead. The faint scent of iron spread through the air. She said in a heavy voice, "We probably can't kill her."
As a general of the Dark God, the Blood Demon's self-healing ability was extraordinary. Any injuries they inflicted on her would heal in a short time.
"Only the power of light can restrain her." Faye looked up at the golden light confronting the vortex and sighed.
The Holy See was focused on dealing with the vortex; how could they spare any attention for the Blood Demon?
She didn't yet know that Tang Qiu had obtained Cynthia's Staff.
"Don't worry, I have a plan." Tang Qiu opened the Holy Water of Light and poured it onto Faye's shoulder. The bleeding wound instantly staunched.
Faye glanced at her. Seeing that although Tang Qiu's face was pale, her eyes were exceptionally calm, Faye's heart settled. A smile touched her lips. "Looks like I'll have to hold on a little longer."
She moved her stiff arm and asked, "How much longer?"
Tang Qiu looked up at the increasingly excited Blood Demon and said thoughtfully, "Soon, I think." She could already sense that the Blood Demon was not as vigilant as she had been at the start.
She was too belligerent; her lust for battle had clouded her mind.
Without the Blood Demon's interference, the golden river of light slowly devoured the darkness, spreading toward the vortex. The vortex struggled, trying to escape, but it was completely surrounded by the golden light.
The vortex thrashed violently but failed to break free from the golden light's restraints. It furiously whipped up a gale, and the black mist clawed at the golden light, attempting to disperse it.
The black vortex's death throes finally caught the Blood Demon's attention. She clicked her tongue, shook off the white wolves, and condensed a ball of red light between her hands. A flame ignited the red light, and the crimson fire flew toward the golden light, enveloping it. Seeing the fire, the black vortex joined the attack. The golden light was shattered once more, dissipating into the air.
The Blood Demon sneered disdainfully. Catching two white figures pouncing toward her out of the corner of her eye, she turned to meet them and said impatiently, "A bunch of annoying ants."
She pushed forward with both her right and left hands. After exchanging a few blows with Faye and Ophelia, she easily knocked them back. She flexed her wrists, about to press her advantage, when something cold and hard was pressed against her lower back. She turned her head slightly and saw Tang Qiu's pale face.
This little wolf is overestimating herself again? Her feeble strength couldn't harm her in the slightest anyway. The Blood Demon scoffed, about to mock her, but then she suddenly found she couldn't move.
The object pressed against her lower back was emitting an aura she found repulsive. But wasn't that just this little wolf's sharp nails? The Blood Demon lowered her gaze, wanting to see what it was, but before she could get a clear look, a sudden burst of golden light stole her vision.
The battered Faye and Ophelia stared in astonishment at the golden light that had completely enveloped the Blood Demon and Tang Qiu. Ophelia grew uneasy and turned to Faye. "Sister, what do we do?"
That ball of golden light radiated an aura that felt dangerous to them; Ophelia didn't dare to approach.
Faye frowned in thought for a moment, then said in a low voice, "Let's wait and see."
She didn't know what Tang Qiu was planning either.
A pure and dense power of light bound her tightly. The Blood Demon closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them again, the white-haired werewolf before her seemed to have had her snow-white hair dyed by the golden light, slowly turning it gold.
The golden light was so dazzling that for a moment, the Blood Demon felt as if the long golden hair was radiating a silver glow. It was as if she was seeing that madwoman, Cynthia, all over again.
The Blood Demon's excitement rapidly cooled. She glanced down and saw the familiar staff. Her expression grew complicated as she slowly said, "Cynthia's Staff..."
She should have realized it sooner. She should have realized it the moment this werewolf took out the staff.
If she had known this werewolf had Cynthia's Staff, she would never have given this person the slightest chance to get close to her.
Rage filled the Blood Demon's eyes. She gripped Tang Qiu's shoulders forcefully, her hands soaking Tang Qiu's clothes with blood. Crimson drops trickled down from her palms.
Pain caused cold sweat to bead on Tang Qiu's forehead, but the hand holding the staff didn't tremble in the slightest. Her sky-blue eyes were exceptionally bright with amusement. The corners of her lips curved up slightly, and her somewhat hoarse voice sounded surprisingly gentle. "Actually, I should reintroduce myself."
Her gentle smile quickly snapped the Blood Demon out of her daze of seeing Cynthia. At a moment like this, that woman Cynthia would only laugh maniacally, not look as mild and harmless as this person.
The Blood Demon narrowed her eyes. Then she saw the person before her give a slight smile and say unhurriedly, "Your Excellency, Blood Demon, my true identity is actually a Red-robed Archbishop of the Holy See."
