MORIC - Chapter 88
Chapter 88: How do you have a Dick?
Xi Zhoumeng was still mumbling groggily. After speaking, she collapsed back into Chi Yueshan's arms and fell asleep.
Wen Xinghuo dropped them off at the Xi family estate. The butler was already waiting at the door, saying that Xi Zhoumeng had previously instructed her to arrange a car to take the Princess home.
A maid stepped forward to help Xi Zhoumeng, but was mercilessly waved away by the young lady.
Xi Zhoumeng, who was always stern and unapproachable when sober, was now impossibly clingy. If Chi Yueshan didn't let her lean on her, she'd ask, "Where's my wifey?"
Chi Yueshan couldn't bear the embarrassment, so she had no choice but to keep her arm around Xi Zhoumeng, all the while worrying about wrinkling her clothes and being pestered to death about it the next day.
Before leaving, Wen Xinghuo apologized to Chi Yueshan.
"I'm sorry."
The Alpha was very tall, and Chi Yueshan always had to tilt her head up to look at her.
It had been that way when they were children, and it was still that way now.
Wen Xinghuo had changed a great deal, but her dependable aura was just the same as all those years ago.
Her gaze was resolute, and even tinged with guilt, it held a unique sort of charm.
Chi Yueshan shook her head. "I'm the one who should be thanking you."
Regardless, without Wen Xinghuo, she would have surely died on that tree-lined path all those years ago.
The mud after the downpour might have covered her body, and no one would have ever known she had existed in this world.
Including the Alpha mother she had never met.
Wen Xinghuo said, "It's not the same. I just... I'm very sorry."
Her eyes were filled with a sincerity that nearly brought Chi Yueshan to tears again—the very same sincerity that had been the reason for her years of striving.
Wen Xinghuo possessed an uplifting power that always compelled Chi Yueshan to push herself harder, almost involuntarily.
Whether or not her efforts bore fruit, Wen Xinghuo had, in a way, shaped the person Chi Yueshan was today.
Wen Xinghuo looked at Chi Yueshan, recalling the other girl's surprise at their first meeting at the start of the term, and the way her gaze had followed her like a shadow at every event since.
Even knowing the full story, Wen Xinghuo still felt a sense of guilt.
Sheng Yangkui sat in the car, watching the two of them.
Her jealousy vanished completely, replaced by a creeping, deeper sense of dread.
But what about the future?
Do I even have a future?
How can I stop the Queen's plan? Can I be honest with Wen Xinghuo?
The hero who deciphered my code and came for me with a blade in her past life... would she raise that blade against me again?
The most laughable part was that destiny had already been rewritten, yet she remained so pessimistic.
Chi Yueshan shook her head. "Senior Wen, if you feel sorry, then just keep climbing higher. I've always wanted to stand shoulder to shoulder with you."
She said frankly, "Besides, you're not the only reason I came to the Upper World."
The little Omega was much prettier now compared to her disheveled appearance when they first met. Her green eyes tilted up slightly, holding a fiery arrogance.
"You were about to lose consciousness back then, and you said your father was in the Upper World... Actually, I think my Alpha mother might be in the Upper World, too."
"Ugh, I don't even know what I'm saying... In short..."
"It's just... you don't have to feel guilty about the case of mistaken identity. Even if we'd never met before, you'd still be someone I look up to. After all, you're one of the top seniors at the academy."
She didn't forget to take a jab. "This one, on the other hand, is a different story."
Chi Yueshan lowered her gaze. The night wind lifted her hair, which had grown out and was no longer the frizzy wolf cut from before. In the dim yellow light, her face took on a hint of shyness unique to a young maiden.
"Xi... Xi Zhoumeng... she has a mountain of flaws, but she's very good to me."
Wen Xinghuo nodded. "Don't be fooled by how Zhoumeng acts. She's actually very dependable."
After saying that, Wen Xinghuo herself found it odd. She coughed and quickly amended, "If she bullies you, just come find me."
She looked at Chi Yueshan, her expression exceptionally gentle, as if recalling the incessant questions from that rainy night long ago.
Chi Yueshan laughed. "Are you my family, here to back me up?"
Wen Xinghuo nodded earnestly. "Can I be?"
Chi Yueshan let out a soft sound, about to say something emotional, when a hand audaciously shoved Wen Xinghuo. "Get going."
Xi Zhoumeng grumbled, her eyes urging Wen Xinghuo to get lost.
Chi Yueshan saw Wen Xinghuo off and then helped Xi Zhoumeng walk into the estate.
Just as they reached the main building, they heard Xi Li's furious voice. "What are these things! Where did these geese come from?! Why is such inferior poultry at our Xi family estate?"
The blond male Alpha was clearly about to explode, his voice cracking with rage.
Chi Yueshan then remembered the geese Xi Zhoumeng had bought.
The sounds, coming from far and near, rose and fell in waves, becoming unbearably grating.
She rounded a corner and saw that the Xi family's swan lake, landscaped at the cost of tens of millions, was now swarming with dusty, common fowl.
These common birds displayed a unique brand of tyranny, pecking at the lake's original, noble swans and sending them scattering in every direction.
Chi Yueshan let out a small "uh."
She glanced at the person slumped on her shoulder with her eyes closed, completely oblivious to the situation.
Chi Yueshan sighed. Forget it. When she sobers up tomorrow, she can explain it to her Big Brother herself.
But Chi Yueshan didn't get her wish. She had just gotten Xi Zhoumeng back to her room when she discovered the other girl had started spouting nonsense and was now running a fever.
There was calling the doctor, giving her a shot—the whole ordeal lasted until the middle of the night.
Xi Li, kept awake by the racket from the common fowl, came to check on his suddenly feverish little sister, draped in a set of gaudy pajamas.
Xi Mingguang came as well, a development that left Chi Yueshan stunned.
She was squeezed into a corner, finding herself face-to-face with the oil painting of Xi Zhoumeng that hung on the wall.
She had been in this room a few times and was quite familiar with its furnishings.
Xi Zhoumeng might seem delicate and fussy, but she was the type to be skilled in a myriad of arts. If one had to find something she couldn't do, it would probably be the goose ring toss.
The doctor asked Chi Yueshan, "Did you two drink a lot tonight?"
Before Chi Yueshan could answer, Xi Li interjected, "She can't hold her liquor? That's impossible."
Xi Mingguang stood with Xi Li, and it was obvious the two weren't particularly close.
As for Chi Yueshan, she had never met Xi Zhoumeng's Omega mother, so she didn't know if Xi Zhoumeng took after her.
Right now, Xi Zhoumeng's body was burning up and her lips were deathly pale. She was nothing like the annoying drunk from earlier; instead, she let out soft whimpers, like a young animal in distress.
Chi Yueshan said, "We drank this."
She pulled up a photo on her light-brain and showed it to the doctor.
She had always had a habit of documenting things with photos. Xuan Ping had once commented on how over-the-top she was.
Isn't every day pretty much the same?
Of course not.
Back then, Chi Yueshan had been infatuated with Wen Xinghuo, thinking, My Wen Xinghuo is different every single day.
But after getting together with Xi Zhoumeng, she felt she needed to find a new way to document her life.
"This wine is so cheap!"
Xi Li said with a frown.
"Why did you go to the outer ring for a meal? Don't tell me Wen Xinghuo chose the place?"
Chi Yueshan finally understood where the initial rumors at the academy had come from.
Xi Li's tone was clearly full of disdain for Wen Xinghuo.
Steeling herself, Chi Yueshan nodded and explained the situation, including the part about the goose ring toss.
Xi Li's mouth twitched. He simply couldn't imagine his noble sister playing a roadside goose ring toss game, much less buying out the entire stall because she couldn't win a single one.
Xi Mingguang, on the other hand, laughed. "What's the big deal? Shen Yu plays that goose game all the time."
Chi Yueshan nodded. "We even ran into Marshal Shen."
Xi Li was speechless. He asked the doctor, "So what's her condition? Should I call Hong Sa over?"
The doctor shook his head. "It's just a common fever. However, Miss Xi's differentiation defect hasn't fully healed yet. Perhaps once she can be fully marked, she will make a complete recovery."
Chi Yueshan wasn't surprised.
Even though Xi Zhoumeng claimed to be an Alpha, in Chi Yueshan's mind, the girl was an Omega through and through.
She hadn't felt a single shred of Alpha aggressiveness from her.
She even seemed like she needed protection.
She's not even as Alpha as I am, Chi Yueshan thought.
"However, her current condition may be psychological in origin."
"Miss Xi doesn't have an alcohol allergy."
Xi Mingguang repeated, "Psychological?"
She looked toward Xi Li.
Xi Li quickly waved his hands. "I certainly didn't force her to drink! Mother, while you were away on the Malevolence Expedition, I've raised my little brother and sister to be fat and strong, as you can clearly see."
Chi Yueshan almost burst out laughing.
Fat and strong Xi Zhoumeng, hahaha.
Xi Mingguang sat to the side, watching Xi Zhoumeng for a long moment.
Xi Zhoumeng was trembling all over, wrapped in her blanket, her face as pale as a paper doll.
She mumbled "no," and then seemed to be urging someone to do something.
The doctor gave a few more instructions before Xi Mingguang left with Xi Li. Just as Chi Yueshan was about to get up, she heard Xi Zhoumeng call out her name.
Over and over, as if Chi Yueshan were in some kind of danger.
"Go... leave me..."
Xi Zhoumeng's voice was faint and broken. The moment Chi Yueshan reached out, her hand was seized by Xi Zhoumeng.
Chi Yueshan reached out to stroke Xi Zhoumeng's forehead, whispering, "What are you dreaming about?"
"Where do you want me to go?"
Chi Yueshan felt a strange sense of satisfaction. She was even in Xi Zhoumeng's dreams.
"Xi Zhoumeng, you're the real idiot."
"I have nowhere else to go. I only have you."
Such a thought was rather cowardly, but it was the truth.
Her little nest in the Lower World had vanished with Zhou Fengqin's death. She had risked everything to come to Guyun Academy, hoping to rekindle a bond that had been abruptly severed.
Instead, she had picked up this entirely different red thread of fate.
Xi Zhoumeng seemed to be cold. After a moment's hesitation, Chi Yueshan climbed into bed and held her.
The blankets were filled with a scent that induced drowsiness. She buried herself in Xi Zhoumeng's arms. At that moment, the pull of their one-hundred-percent innate compatibility reached its zenith, an irresistible urge to draw closer.
"It feels like there's a lot you haven't told me."
Chi Yueshan closed her eyes, her hand holding Xi Zhoumeng's. "I wish I could enter your dream."
"That version of me must be so happy, to be worried over by you like this."
The fever-reducing shot made Xi Zhoumeng even groggier, and she sank into memories of her youth.
Endless lessons, a noble yet tainted bloodline, the loathing gazes that followed her like a shadow.
Then came an unfamiliar battlefield, the smell of scorched mecha, earth-shattering tremors, and terrifying alien creatures that made one's skin crawl.
The familiar figure collapsing in front of her.
The petite Omega who protected her.
The Alpha who died in a distant land.
Chi Yueshan's final gaze—her emerald eyes looked as if they'd been caught in a downpour, filled with a pain so palpable it was almost tangible.
Then, a light touch landed on her forehead, traced down her face, and settled on the corner of her lips.
Xi Zhoumeng shuddered. She felt someone kissing her.
When she opened her eyes, she didn't see anyone, though there was someone snuggled in her arms.
Her breathing was deep and even, as if she were fast asleep.
Xi Zhoumeng's consciousness slowly returned. The clock on the wall showed it was still the early hours of the morning.
This was her room, her bed.
The person in her arms was hers.
Xi Zhoumeng looked down and asked Chi Yueshan softly, "What happened to me?"
Chi Yueshan replied, "Someone went crazy from drinking cheap wine."
Xi Zhoumeng seemed unbothered by Chi Yueshan's teasing and asked instead, "Then who was kissing me?"
Chi Yueshan said, "How should I know?"
Her voice was muffled. She thought in annoyance, I knew I shouldn't have gotten into bed. This is so awkward.
Xi Zhoumeng pulled her out from her embrace. Just as Chi Yueshan started to struggle, a kiss descended upon her without warning.
After a fleeting touch, Xi Zhoumeng let out a soft "ah." "I should have had a mint."
She actually sat up to get one.
Chi Yueshan was speechless.
It was hard not to suspect that this person would probably need to burn incense and bathe for three days and nights before making love.
Xi Zhoumeng said, "I wouldn't. Sleeping with you isn't like making a holy offering."
"Damn it," Chi Yueshan cursed, not realizing she had spoken her thought aloud.
Before she could feel embarrassed for another moment, a mint-flavored kiss landed on her lips. A mint was caught between their teeth as Xi Zhoumeng tore off her pheromone patch and bit down on the nape of her neck. Chi Yueshan cried out, saying indignantly, "I thought you couldn't mark people?"
Xi Zhoumeng seemed just as displeased, collapsing back onto Chi Yueshan. "I'm a useless Alpha. I'm going to throw a fit."
Chi Yueshan was silent for a long moment, her face beet red. She stammered, "Then... that time before... with you and me..."
"Why didn't I feel your... you know... that..."
Xi Zhoumeng's voice was low, a hint of laughter blurring into a subtle, suggestive tone. "Hm?"
She had never been so red-faced in her life. "Just... your... Ah! What are you doing!"
Xi Zhoumeng said, "I'm not that useless. So, can you touch me?"
