Monster - Chapter 121

Chapter 121: Greed

After making her second wish, Lin Sandie was about to call out to Lou when she saw the other woman standing silently behind her, a complicated expression on her face.

Lin Sandie smiled at her.

"Why didn't you wish to get that damn thing off your back?" Lou didn't hide her dissatisfaction with Lin Sandie for unilaterally wasting a wish.

By the time her body had recovered, Lin Sandie had already typed in the last word, leaving her no time to stop it.

"This was the more correct choice," Lin Sandie said, somewhat pleased with herself for restoring Lou's body and ensuring Tree could no longer monitor their movements via the Trojan Horse. She smiled and asked Lou, "Am I acting a little more like a Guide?"

"You've always been very much like a Guide."

"But still not enough to meet your requirements for a Guide," Lin Sandie said pointedly, her eyes bright as she looked at Lou.

Under that gaze, the other woman looked away, flustered. "What requirements could I possibly have?"

The moment she looked away, the smile on Lin Sandie's face gradually faded, and the joyful anticipation in her eyes turned to dejection. She paused for a long moment before blinking her dry eyes hard, her expression once again becoming impassive.

"Go get the car," Lin Sandie said, stretching her arms to loosen a body that had just been stiff with tension.

"You look exhausted." Lou sensed a different emotion from Lin Sandie but didn't want to probe deeper. She just acted like her usual self, smiling and reaching for Lin Sandie's hand with a flirtatious gesture. "Want me to carry you over? I feel great right now."

"No need. Just bring the car over. There's a lot of gravel here, be careful."

"Oh, okay." Faced with this version of Lin Sandie, Lou always felt a little afraid to confront her. She obediently turned and went to get the car.

Lin Sandie watched her turn and leave, and the tears she had been holding back finally fell from her eyes. She was just as cowardly, not daring to press Lou further, not daring to ask if she would be willing to consider letting her become her Guide.

Taking a sharp breath, Lin Sandie quickly wiped her tears away. When Lou drove the car over, she immediately slipped into the back seat. "Let's find a place to rest first. We've been through too much these past two days."

"Yeah, you should get some sleep." Lou turned her head to remind Lin Sandie, only to see that she had already closed her eyes, curled up in the back with her head pillowed on her arm.

She looked like she was on the verge of collapse.

Seeing Lin Sandie like this, a dense, prickling sensation surfaced in Lou's heart. The feeling quickly spread to her fingertips, making her desperately want to hold the current Lin Sandie, to see her smile, to have her look at her with that same gaze from just now. Then she would act spoiled, make her angry, demand a kiss...

Gripping the steering wheel tightly, Lou, for once, restrained her desires and drove toward Star City.

Near dusk, she finally spotted a three-story motel by the side of the highway, its neon sign already lit up.

When Lou parked the car in the lot in front of the motel, Lin Sandie was still asleep in the back seat.

"Lin Sandie." Lou nudged her shoulder worriedly.

Lin Sandie's curled-up body stirred, her long eyelashes trembling slightly before she opened her somewhat hazy eyes.

"I found a motel. Let's rest for a few days before we set off again." Lou got out of the car first. The trousers that had been damaged when her leg was blown off had been replaced, as had her shoes.

"Okay." Lin Sandie sat up and rubbed her face. Her eyes were still not quite clear, and she answered Lou purely on instinct. Then she opened the car door, got out, and followed Lou toward the motel's front desk.

Her experiences during this period had kept her nerves constantly on edge. So even when she wasn't fully awake, she subconsciously glanced at the parking lot and noticed that, aside from their still-battered red sedan, there were no other vehicles. It seemed this motel didn't have many guests at the moment.

The motel was run by a family of three. At the front desk was a girl of about fifteen or sixteen. She smiled sweetly as she had Lou register, but after seeing Lin Sandie, she stared for a good while before saying, "Wow! This is the first time I've seen twins!"

"Two adjoining rooms." Lou casually registered her and Lin Sandie's information, then smiled at the girl. "So, who do you think is the older sister and who's the younger one?"

The girl pointed at Lin Sandie without hesitation. "She's the older sister."

"Wrong! I'm the older sister." Lou's smile widened. She could get along with anyone. Of course, she wasn't wrong; in terms of actual age, she was several hundred years older than Lin Sandie.

"Really?" The girl looked skeptical, not quite believing Lou. No matter how you looked at it, Lin Sandie seemed more composed and mature.

"Do you serve dinner here?"

"We do, but it's the staff meal!" the girl said with a wink. "My dad makes really good hamburger steaks. Would you like two orders? You're our first guests today."

"We'll take two."

"I'll eat in my room. Could you please have it sent up?" Lin Sandie said.

"Of course. Here are your keys, for the second floor. Please keep them safe." The girl handed a key to Lou and Lin Sandie respectively, then added, "We usually eat at seven-thirty in the first-floor dining room. I'll bring your order up then."

Once on the second floor, Lin Sandie said goodbye to Lou and went back to her own room.

After a few hours of rest in the car, she had regained some energy. Back in her room, she first went into the bathroom for a shower, changing out of her blood-stained clothes and into a clean, comfortable outfit.

Lin Sandie had no particular fondness for suits, but the ones issued by the Rose Society offered some protective effects, including the shirts and trousers. So, she took out the previously soiled suit jacket and other items to wash them clean.

By the time she finished, it was past seven in the evening. After eating the dinner the front desk girl brought over, she began to review the recent events, wondering if she could have handled similar situations better.

Lin Sandie still brooded over Miu the Crow's departure, feeling that her advice had led to that outcome. Although Lou had comforted her by saying that even without her advice, Miu, being targeted by Tree, would have been forced out in some other way, Lin Sandie still wished she could have done better.

Afterward, she took stock of the magical items she possessed, including The Pin and the Crown of Thorns she had obtained from Saya. Although these two items were powerful, they felt ominous. Lin Sandie subconsciously felt it was better not to tell Lou about them for the time being.

By the time she had organized everything, it was nearly ten o'clock. Lin Sandie lay in bed, ready to rest, but she couldn't stop thinking about what had happened with Lou in the tunnel. Lately, whenever she had a spare moment, she would think of Lou at that time, her voice always echoing in her ears.

She had lost her head then, actually making a move on Lou. But it had still been rushed. Every time she remembered it, a feeling of "it wasn't enough" would well up inside her.

...

Knowing Lin Sandie was exhausted, Lou consciously avoided disturbing her. After dinner, she worked out for a while before taking a shower. Lin Sandie's wish had restored her body to its state before entering the Disorder Land, leaving her full of energy. After a self-check, she found that following the events of the day before yesterday, the Main World's rule suppression was gradually weakening, and her abilities had recovered to about thirty percent of their Main World level.

But this also means this world is on the verge of collapse. I'll encounter more and more monsters like Wei, whose abilities are almost ridiculously powerful, Lou thought as she dried her hair. Just then, she heard the door to the next room open.

Lin Sandie is going out this late? Lou stood up alertly, about to go out and ask what was happening, when she heard a knock on her own door.

Lou opened the door to see Lin Sandie standing outside in fresh, casual clothes. She stopped drying her hair and asked with a grin, "What's up?"

Lin Sandie walked in silently, her body drawing close to Lou as she reached out and shut the door.

Lou backed away in confusion, watching as Lin Sandie got closer and closer, until she was pressed against the wall. Lin Sandie's entire body was against hers, her gaze burning into her.

Lin Sandie didn't speak, just looked at Lou like that. Her hands wrapped around Lou's waist, her palms so hot that Lou could feel the heat through her clothes.

Lou's face gradually turned red as she understood Lin Sandie's meaning. In that moment, she grew nervous. One second she was thinking that Lin Sandie was too tired and should be resting, the next she was remembering what happened in the tunnel. She, too, was dissatisfied with how it had barely scratched the surface. She, too, was filled with unfulfilled desire. She, too, wanted Lin Sandie.

Finally, blushing, Lou took the initiative to kiss Lin Sandie.

"Okay," Lou's voice sounded against Lin Sandie's lips as she licked the wound on her red lips, a wound from her own bite that still hadn't fully healed.

The arms around Lou's waist tightened. Lin Sandie quickly seized back control. Unlike her usual restraint, this time Lin Sandie completely let herself go, indulging in her own desire as if she wanted to devour Lou whole. Every one of her movements was aggressive, even frightening Lou for a moment, but her attention was quickly dismantled by Lin Sandie, and she followed her, sinking into the abyss.

For the next two days, they didn't leave the room. Like animals, they constantly consumed themselves, forgetting everything, immersed only in each other. Lou listened to Lin Sandie's soft whispers in her ear, watched her gaze at her with undisguised adoration, and felt the air grow hot and humid. And she, in turn, was like Lin Sandie's woman, her Sentinel...

"Like a fool," Lou murmured softly and tenderly. After another round of pleasure, Lin Sandie had fallen into a deep sleep. The energetic Lou woke up first. She turned her head to see Lin Sandie's exhausted sleeping face and cursed her gently.

Listening to the steady sound of Lin Sandie's breathing beside her, Lou stared blankly at the ceiling for a while before sitting up. She gently turned the side-sleeping Lin Sandie onto her stomach, revealing the menacing mechanical scorpion on her back. The wounds around the scorpion were still glaring. Lou bought several expensive healing salves from the Points Mall and gently applied the medicine to Lin Sandie's back.

I wouldn't mind if you showed some weakness, you know. These wounds should have been treated on time... Lou grumbled inwardly. Lin Sandie's constitution was not like hers; her wounds healed at a normal human rate. Many times, Lou wanted to tell her to be more careful, or even be more forceful about it, but she was afraid of hurting her pride.

While applying the medicine, Lou noticed some fine scratches on Lin Sandie's back that she herself had made, and her cheeks flushed hot.

Did I use that much force? I have to be careful not to break Lin Sandie next time. But she must be exhausted. She didn't even wake up when I put medicine on her. Even though she's so tired, when it comes to that, she's... she's not vague at all...

Lou couldn't stop herself from replaying the events of the past two days, the images echoing frame by frame in her mind. She turned over and buried her face in the pillow next to her. After a while, as if nothing had happened, she lifted her head and continued to apply medicine to Lin Sandie.
