Chapter 162
After Noah obtained the Godhead from the Earth Mother's temple, she sealed it in a specially made box. The Godhead contained a massive amount of divine power. Once freed from the box's seal, the long-suppressed power surged forth, and the immense earth element nearly broke through the Power of Darkness within the dark formation.
The earth element was very peaceful and stable, lacking much offensive power. It didn't repel the light element or the dark element, making it the perfect energy source to activate the formation.
This characteristic was also why Delphine had wanted to seize the Earth Mother's Godhead to nourish the Tree of Life.
It could provide a continuous stream of energy for the Tree of Life.
Seeing the Godhead's aura on the verge of overwhelming the Power of Darkness, Noah wasn't alarmed at all. Instead, she was extremely satisfied.
The greater the Godhead's energy, the more powerful the dark formation would be, and the faster this continent would collapse. Of course, she wouldn't be displeased.
A red-robed witch standing beside Noah stared at the Godhead in her hand, her voice hoarse with excitement. "Let's begin, Noah."
Noah smiled faintly and gestured to the red-robed witches behind her, who had already taken out their bone staffs.
The witches automatically found their positions, raised their staffs, and began to chant. A fierce wind started to howl, and a black vortex appeared in the sky. The blood-red swamp beneath their feet began to bubble as if boiling, with pale, flesh-streaked bones occasionally stirring within it.
The sky grew dim as the black vortex expanded outward. Streaks of lightning, like silver serpents, darted through the black clouds, and the sound of thunder was deafening.
A silver bolt of lightning struck down, illuminating the faces of the red-robed witches. Against their scarlet robes, their faces were as pale as paper, not seeming like living people.
The black clouds began to spread out from Witch City. The Shas Principality was the first to be affected. In several dead cities that had once been occupied by Black Witches, one or more giant dark formations appeared without warning on empty grounds.
The dark formations were already complete. As if summoned, they emerged from the ground, with streams of blood flowing slowly. Vortices were forming at the four corners of the arrays.
It wasn't just the Shas Principality, which bordered Witch City, that experienced this strange phenomenon. Nearly all the small and medium-sized countries on the continent were facing the same situation.
Even among the three great empires, with the exception of the Gru Empire, where the werewolves resided and the impact was smaller, the Gosse Empire and the Bill Empire had no fewer dark formations appearing than the Shas Principality.
Except for the territory of the Holy See, the skies of the entire continent were covered by black clouds. What was clearly daytime instantly turned into night. Ordinary humans didn't know what was happening and looked up at the sky in confusion, while the empires' knight orders had already sensed that something was wrong. Unaware of the cause, they could only rush to the Church for help.
The square in front of the Church was packed with people. However, because the bishops had not yet returned from the Central Church, the Church itself was also in a state of chaos.
The night before the darkness had already plunged the continent into panic. Tang Qiu was still unaware of the situation outside; just seeing the changes within Witch City was enough to make her heart grow heavy.
The fierce wind blew the hood from her head, and her long, snow-white hair flew back. Tang Qiu stared intently at Noah, who was surrounded by the red-robed witches, not missing a single one of her movements.
The Godhead... she had already figured out the key to activating this powerful dark formation.
Noah must not be allowed to merge the Godhead into the dark formation... Tang Qiu calmly stretched her arms.
The red-robed witches' incantation was nearing its end. Noah tossed the Godhead in her hand into the air, then began to chant in a low voice. A black mist supported the Godhead, carefully lowering it.
Tang Qiu's gaze shifted slightly upward, landing on the Godhead. Just as she took a step forward, the sound of something slicing through the air echoed in the wind. She paused her step as a streak of black light brushed past her, leaving several afterimages in the air as it shot straight for Noah.
Tang Qiu subconsciously turned to look in the direction the long arrow had come from, but its owner was very cautious and had already moved after firing the shot.
The black long arrow slowed down upon entering the range of the dark formation and was noticed by Noah and the others. A Black Witch beside Noah glanced back, raised her bone staff, and a black hand shot out to grab the arrow. The arrow's speed decreased further, but it continued to fly toward Noah, the hand and the arrow canceling out each other's Power of Darkness.
The Black Witch frowned. Seeing her begin to tire, another Black Witch also raised her bone staff and summoned a black hand to help suppress the arrow.
Finally, the long arrow unwillingly dissipated a dozen meters away from Noah.
The sneak attack from the black long arrow put the red-robed witches on high alert. They shielded Noah behind them, guarding against any possible attacks.
Layers upon layers of Dark Domains appeared. The Black Witches began to summon dark monsters to patrol the domains, trying to find the enemy's hiding place.
Knowing someone was hiding nearby to launch sneak attacks, Noah frowned. Although the earth element was gentle, it still took time to merge it with the dark formation.
She looked at the Godhead floating about a meter above the blood-red swamp, her expression serious as she controlled the Power of Darkness, trying to speed up their fusion.
The appearance of the Dark Domain obstructed Patricia's vision. Her hand on her longbow slowly tightened. She closed her eyes slightly, her pointed ears twitched, and she raised her bow, drew the string, and an arrow flew out. A second later, a scream came from within the white mist.
The red-robed witch who was hit clutched her chest and knelt, blood gushing out and merging with the blood-red swamp at her feet. She raised a hand to stop her companion who wanted to help her, then turned her head to look toward Noah, a resolute expression flashing across her face.
She released her hand, letting the blood flow freely from her chest. As her consciousness faded, she used her last bit of clarity to begin murmuring an incantation. Behind her, a massive figure slowly materialized.
Seeing her intention, the Black Witch who had wanted to save her stopped and continued to watch their surroundings vigilantly, her expression calm about her sacrifice.
The Gorefiend summoned through blood sacrifice began to roar as soon as it appeared, expressing its fury. It pounded the ground with both hands, its scarlet eyes searching for the owner of the long arrow.
Patricia's position was exposed. She could only put away her longbow and face the Gorefiend's attack head-on.
After Patricia was exposed, a third of the red-robed witches split off to attack her in coordination with the Gorefiend.
Dark Elves were also dark creatures, so the Power of Darkness would have some of its attack power mitigated when it landed on her. But even so, under the combined assault of the Gorefiend and the red-robed witches, she still appeared somewhat disheveled.
However, she had come to Witch City with the determination to fight to the death. Despite her battered state, she still struggled to press closer to Noah.
The Godhead was only half a meter away from the blood-red swamp. Noah held her breath, the sounds of fighting no longer able to capture her attention. Her entire focus was on the formation.
The Black Witches protecting her also stared intently at the distance between the Godhead and the blood-red swamp, not daring to breathe.
A white figure suddenly flew out of the white mist. While the Black Witches were focused on dealing with Patricia, it silently closed in, its sharp claws aiming for their throats.
Suddenly feeling a straw-like texture under her palm, Tang Qiu clicked her tongue, threw the scarecrow in her hand aside, and dodged away. A second after she moved, a black beast pounced on empty air.
The Black Witch who had narrowly escaped touched her neck, which was covered in a sticky patch of blood. If she hadn't reacted quickly, her head would no longer be on her shoulders.
Tang Qiu's infiltration into the Black Witches' ranks caused them a moment of panic. In the past, when dealing with enemies, Black Witches would hide themselves as much as possible. But now, they couldn't move because they had to protect Noah.
The chaos in the Black Witch ranks caught the attention of the two red-robed witches by Noah's side. They glanced back, then turned and raised their bone staffs.
The fluctuation of dark energy nearby brought Noah back to her senses as well. She turned her head to look behind her, her eyes narrowing as she recognized Tang Qiu's identity in the white mist.
A Royal Werewolf... what a troublesome creature.
The Black Witches being gathered together made it convenient for Tang Qiu's attack, but because she was within the dark formation, she was suppressed by the Power of Darkness, which made her movements a bit stiff.
After missing several more times, Tang Qiu frowned and stopped in place. The moment she stopped, several black beasts pounced on her.
A dazzling white light flared. The black beasts whimpered and dissipated into the air. Tang Qiu's figure vanished from her spot, replaced by a giant white wolf.
The white wolf was somewhat displeased at being bound by the Power of Darkness. She shook her head, her sky-blue eyes scanning her surroundings, then she leaped fiercely, pouncing on the Black Witches in front of her.
The Black Witches wanted to use scarecrows to escape, but the white wolf was enormous. If they dodged, they would expose Noah behind them.
The attacked red-robed witches could only retreat while commanding their summoned monsters to block for them. However, it was of little use; all the monsters were torn to shreds by the white wolf.
The sudden, oppressive pressure made Noah's expression darken. The red-robed witch beside her had already left her spot, attempting to block the white wolf's path.
A Black Witch's dark magic was powerful, but her own body was as fragile as an ordinary human's. To face a werewolf at such close range was truly equivalent to using her life to buy time.
Only a fist's distance remained between the Godhead and the blood-red swamp, but the Godhead was no longer sinking.
Noah's brow furrowed tightly. The oppressive force behind her made her hand hanging at her side slowly clench. She raised her hand to disperse the black energy surrounding the Godhead, then bent down, grabbed it, and forcefully plunged it into the blood-red swamp.
The blood-red swamp was extremely corrosive. The hand Noah used to grab the Godhead was instantly eroded into a withered bone. The pain caused her forehead to be covered in cold sweat, and she bit her lip to endure the pain that was about to make her faint.
A huge force suddenly sent her flying. Noah fell to the ground and spat out a large mouthful of blood. A shadow loomed over her. She looked up to see the white wolf's sharp claws, her pupils shrinking slightly as she subconsciously raised her other, intact hand to cover her face.
The white wolf's figure disappeared. Tang Qiu reached out and grabbed Noah, holding her up as a shield. Dozens of dark spells and the pursuing monsters that followed abruptly stopped, slowly dissipating half a step in front of Noah.
The Black Witches lowered their bone staffs and slowly surrounded them, but stopped again under Tang Qiu's sweeping gaze.
Tang Qiu dragged Noah by the neck to the spot where the Godhead had vanished and said in a deep voice, "Where's the Godhead?"
Noah let out a muffled cough and chuckled lowly. "It's too late. The Godhead has already merged with the dark formation."
The hand on Noah's neck tightened. Noah's face turned red from suffocation, and her breathing became labored, but she was still smiling, her expression exceptionally sinister.
Because Noah was in Tang Qiu's hands, the other Black Witches didn't dare to act rashly. Patricia, who had been tied down by the Gorefiend, finally found an opportunity to break free during the lull in the Black Witches' attacks.
She threw the Gorefiend behind her and came to Tang Qiu's side. Patricia stared down at the blood-red swamp that had swallowed the Godhead and asked in a low voice, "Is the Godhead in there?"
Tang Qiu glanced at her. "I saw her put it in."
As she spoke, she released Noah, throwing her to the ground.
Noah clutched her neck, her voice hoarse. "It's too late. The darkness is coming. I advise you to go back and prepare to welcome the Dark God."
Patricia had no reaction to Noah's words. After hearing Tang Qiu confirm that the Godhead was indeed in the blood-red swamp, she bent down directly and reached her hand in to search.
An elf's physique was far superior to a Black Witch's, and Patricia happened to be a Dark Elf. When Noah had put her hand into the blood-red swamp, it had been corroded to bare bone in seconds, but Patricia's situation was much better.
Her palm and arm were covered in red cracks from the corrosion, with flesh peeling back. All the blood that emerged was greedily absorbed by the swamp.
The intense pain in her arm caused cold sweat to appear on Patricia's forehead, but her expression remained placid. Only when she had searched for a long time and found nothing did her brow furrow.
She had to get the Godhead... Patricia switched hands and continued to reach into the swamp to search, as if she couldn't feel the pain at all.
She searched with both hands for a long time, but the Godhead had sunk somewhere unknown. Patricia pressed her lips together tightly. She said nothing, nor did she show any expression.
But an aura of helplessness and despair emanated from her.
