CA – Chapter 121
Chapter 121
The four aberrant beasts guarding the temple had all been awakened. They had been sealed within the stone pillars for too long, and their strength was less than a third of what it had been in the Age of Gods. Even so, they still managed to halt the progress of the Holy See, the Elves, and the others exploring the temple.
With Faye's help, the Holy See's situation gradually stabilized. Although Reese and Audrey were less experienced, their talent was immense. They coordinated with Faye, casting light magic at the aberrant beast. Even after several hours, they showed no signs of faltering.
The aberrant beast's counterattacks only managed to harm Faye. However, with Vogt casting healing spells from the side, any wound on Faye was healed in three seconds at most.
By relying on light magic to wear it down, the aberrant beast was dragged into a battle of attrition and became covered in wounds. The Holy See's advantage was now clear.
Compared to the Holy See's stability, the Elves' side was somewhat more perilous. Lacking a figure like Faye who could trap the aberrant beast, they were wounded by it several times while trying to surround and attack it.
Fortunately, the Elves had the advantage of nature magic. When injured, they would use wind magic to retreat, then hide and harass the aberrant beast with their bows and arrows.
The Dark Elves were physically tougher than the Elves. In the later stages of the fight, only the Dark Elves remained surrounding the aberrant beast.
Delphine held her longbow, occasionally loosing an arrow at the aberrant beast. The long arrows struck the weakest parts of its body, and every shot drew a splash of blood.
After the jade-green arrow pierced the beast's body, a streak of black light would follow, widening the wound the arrow had made.
The black arrow that followed always seemed to anticipate the direction of Delphine's next shot. Their coordination was so perfect it was as if they had planned it beforehand.
But Delphine knew they hadn't discussed anything. The owner of the black arrow stood not far from her, yet she wouldn't even spare her a glance.
Delphine shot Patricia a sidelong glance and deliberately lowered her bow by half an inch, causing her arrow to fly a fraction off course.
Patricia's hand, holding the bowstring, paused. She frowned and subconsciously turned to look at Delphine, not expecting to meet her gaze directly.
Delphine's light green eyes curved slightly as she said with a smile, "You've improved a lot."
Patricia turned her head away coldly and released the bowstring. The black arrow flew out like a bolt of lightning, heading straight for the top of the aberrant beast's head. Enraged, the beast swatted away the nearby Dark Elves with one claw and charged madly toward Delphine and Patricia.
Delphine blinked, raising a hand to conjure a water shield that temporarily blocked the beast's advance. She glanced over at Patricia, only to find she was already gone.
She sighed silently, changed her position, and continued to focus on dealing with the aberrant beast.
The Holy See was stable, the Elves were in peril, and Evan's situation could only be described as brutal. When the stone pillar collapsed, Eric failed to dodge in time and was crushed underneath, showing no signs of movement. Delia had secretly slipped away, leaving Evan alone to fight the aberrant beast.
Third-generation vampires had tough hides and were quite durable. Moreover, unless his entire body was torn apart and his heart crushed, he could recover with his powerful self-healing ability.
Evan was no match for the aberrant beast, and without anyone to help him, turning the tables was even more difficult. Although his self-healing was fast, the number of wounds on his body continued to increase.
Evan was being completely suppressed by the aberrant beast, which filled him with rage. But he was unwilling to just give up and flee the temple.
As Evan scrambled to escape from under the beast's claws, he pondered how to lure it elsewhere so he could get away. But before he could come up with a good plan, a white mist suddenly rose within the temple, enveloping the entire structure in moments.
A tall, red shadow swayed through the dense fog, heading toward Evan. The stone tiles beneath its feet trembled with its heavy steps.
Evan's figure paused mid-air. He had already realized that this sudden white mist was actually the Dark Domain of a Red-robed Witch. He flipped over and landed on the aberrant beast's back, his eyes lighting up as he saw the Gorefiend looming in the mist.
The Gorefiend, clenching its massive fists, approached the aberrant beast and Evan. The beast sensed a threat from the Gorefiend. It lowered its head, warily watching the Gorefiend's movements.
The Gorefiend came before the aberrant beast, raised its fists, and slammed them down on its back. Evan rolled to evade the attack, but his arm was struck by a red light and severed in two. He landed wretchedly on the ground, clutching his regenerating arm and glaring at the Gorefiend that had attacked him. "Black Witches!" he roared.
This Gorefiend was clearly here to kill him.
The Gorefiend's sudden attack didn't just happen on Evan's side; they also appeared near the Holy See, the Elves, and even Tang Qiu.
Tang Qiu, coordinating with Lucille and Delia, had just managed to restrain their aberrant beast when a dense fog began to spread around them. Lucille was the first to realize it was the Dark Domain of a Red-robed Witch. She leaped off the aberrant beast and cautiously retreated to Tang Qiu's side.
Delia reacted a bit slower and was sent flying by a Gorefiend that had approached silently. She crashed into a pillar in front of the palace, her arm torn in half at the middle, the deathly pale flesh turned outward.
After its successful sneak attack, the Gorefiend's enormous body emerged from the dense fog. It completely ignored the aberrant beast to its side and stomped heavily toward Tang Qiu. Tang Qiu frowned, aimed her staff at the Gorefiend, and softly chanted an incantation. A golden light shot toward the Gorefiend, but it was shattered by a swat of its hand mid-flight.
Lucille's expression turned cold. She flew forward to block the Gorefiend's path. The Gorefiend's skin wasn't as tough as the aberrant beast's, and Lucille's attacks left wounds on its body with every strike. But as she focused on dealing with the Gorefiend, the aberrant beast suddenly closed in and sent her flying with a swipe of its claw.
Tang Qiu had been keeping an eye on Lucille. Seeing her get injured, she immediately dropped her staff and flew forward to catch her. The two of them retreated all the way into the palace before they finally stabilized themselves.
Lucille's arm had been clawed by the aberrant beast. A torn wound ran from her shoulder to her forearm, with bright red blood gushing out.
Tang Qiu's face darkened. She tore a piece of fabric from the hem of her robe and tied it around Lucille's arm. Vampires couldn't use Holy Water of Light or receive healing spells, so they could only wait for the bleeding to stop on its own.
Fortunately, vampires had strong self-healing abilities. Lucille's injury soon stabilized and began to slowly heal.
The aberrant beast was afraid of the palace and didn't dare to enter, but the Gorefiend had no such fears. It didn't bother tangling with the aberrant beast and made a beeline for the palace.
Since Erin and Kama were both inside the palace, the Gorefiend's attacks could easily harm them. Therefore, Tang Qiu had no choice but to put away her staff and proactively engage the Gorefiend to keep it outside.
Lucille tossed aside the blood-soaked white cloth and lowered her head to flex her stiff arm.
The faint scent of blood caught Delia's attention. She climbed up from the ground and stared blankly at the blood-stained white cloth on the floor. She lifted her gaze to Lucille, her eyes fixed on her arm.
Lucille noticed Delia's stare and turned her head, her expression grim.
Delia subconsciously looked away, leaning against the pillar, lost in thought.
How could a vampire have such bright red blood... Delia bit her lip. Her heart began to pound violently as a thought occurred to her.
A figure flickered in her peripheral vision. She looked up and saw Kama curiously approaching them. The child's golden eyes darted between her and Lucille, a strange expression on her face.
Delia sized Kama up and tried to offer her a friendly smile. But upon seeing it, Kama was frightened and scurried over to Lucille's side.
She was very afraid of Lucille and stopped a step away from her. With a tense little face, she tremblingly reached out her hand.
Lucille glanced down, then uninterestedly looked away, continuing to flex her arm.
Kama grew anxious, but she couldn't speak. She wanted to grab Lucille's hand, but she couldn't due to her height and her fear.
"Go find Erin," Lucille said coolly, grabbing Kama by her clothes and pushing her toward Erin.
Erin caught the troublesome Kama and looked worriedly at Tang Qiu, who was fighting the Gorefiend outside. "What should we do? Can you two win?" she asked.
One aberrant beast was manageable, but now there was a Gorefiend as well.
Lucille didn't speak, but her expression was grave.
The appearance of the Gorefiends disrupted the stable situation. Whether it was the Holy See or the Elves, the addition of a Gorefiend threw their battles into chaos.
Amid the chaos, Glanna, Noah, and the other Red-robed Witches entered the temple. They came down from the bone bridge. Noah seemed to have some knowledge of the temple; after a brief survey of the surroundings, she directed everyone toward the center.
After the stone pillars from the four directions had collapsed in an intersecting pattern, a statue appeared in the center of the temple. The Earth Mother stood atop a high fortress, holding a shield in her left hand and a longsword in her right. She looked forward proudly, as if she had an army of thousands at her back.
Noah walked up to the statue, tilted her head back to gaze at it, and said in a low voice, "...This is a god."
Glanna also looked up. She didn't hold as much reverence for gods, so she quickly looked away. Thinking of Noah's familiarity with the temple, she frowned and asked, "Why are you so familiar with this temple?"
Moreover, she seemed to know in advance that the statue of the Earth Mother would appear in this spot after the pillars collapsed.
Others might not know, but Glanna had discovered early on that the news of the Divine Ruins' appearance had originated from Noah.
Noah withdrew her gaze. In response to Glanna's question, she chuckled softly and replied, "For that, you have your little lunatic, Erin, to thank."
"Oh?"
"Erin once took Vera into the Dark God's temple behind Witch City." Noah's tone grew excited as she recalled something. "I used witchcraft to see the inside of the temple."
At the time, Erin and Vera were not very old. When they went missing, she had grown worried and used witchcraft to find them, not expecting to see such a delightful sight.
Glanna raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Wasn't it Vera who took Erin in?" She knew Erin and Vera had entered the temple behind Witch City, but at the time, all the Black Witches in the city had assumed it was Vera who led Erin inside.
That was why, after they came out, Vera began to be specially cultivated by the Garcia family.
Noah shook her head, her smile full of meaning. "It was Erin. She is greatly favored by the Dark God."
Seeing that Noah didn't seem to be joking, Glanna's eyes shifted. She lowered her gaze slightly, becoming lost in thought.
