Chapter 120
Outside the temple, Noah leaned over the bridge railing, staring intently at the temple, which was hazy and shrouded in yellow sand. Although she couldn’t see the current situation of the Holy See members, Elves, and others who had entered, the fluctuations of power emanating from within clearly told her how fierce the battle was.
The stone pillars at the four corners of the temple had already collapsed, and the figure of a giant beast was faintly visible in the yellow sand.
Noah was exceptionally excited. Her hands, gripping the bridge railing, tightened repeatedly in her agitation. Behind her, the dark formation had already taken shape. Dark red blood flowed slowly within the array, and the humans who had been bled dry were casually tossed aside. Flocks of black crows landed on them, pecking at their flesh and blood, reducing them to bare skeletons.
Glanna leaned against the railing, the wind blowing her red robe back. The thick stench of blood didn’t bother her; instead, she wore a look of enjoyment. She licked her red lips, gazed at the operating dark formation, and said with a low chuckle, “When it comes to research on dark formations, your Garcia family is truly more outstanding.”
Noah was so focused on the temple that she didn’t hear Glanna’s words.
Glanna glanced sideways at her, her eyes darkening slightly. She reached out, grabbed a lock of Noah’s hair, and gave it a tug. Noah turned to look at her, puzzled.
“…If a new Dark God were to appear, would you submit to her and offer your loyalty?” Glanna asked nonchalantly, releasing the strand of hair and watching it slip through her fingers.
Noah was taken aback, her brow slowly furrowing. “A new Dark God?”
“Yes,” Glanna said with a smile. “Someone who would bring darkness to the Statu Continent, trample the Holy See underfoot, and establish a dark church to rule this land.”
“Is it wrong to call someone who can achieve all that a new Dark God?”
Noah’s brow remained furrowed. She thought about it seriously and said in a low voice, “What a crazy idea.”
“Oh?”
“Unless the Dark God descends, the light on this continent can never be completely driven out.” Noah tried to refute Glanna, but just as she spoke, an excited voice came from a kinswoman behind her.
A red-robed witch stared in the direction of the temple and exclaimed, “The temple is sinking!”
Noah spun around abruptly. Just as the red-robed witch had said, the temple was indeed sinking. Moreover, a fierce wind swept in again, and the sun hanging in the sky was completely obscured by the yellow sand, causing the sky to instantly turn gloomy.
“It’s time…” Noah left Glanna and leaped off the bone bridge. She approached the dark formation, took a small knife from a kinswoman, and lightly slit her wrist.
Blood flowed down her palm. She tossed the knife aside and joined her kinswomen in chanting a low incantation. A dense, blood-colored fog began to coalesce behind them.
Glanna watched in silence as the Gorefiend appeared behind them.
Once fully formed, the Gorefiend threw its head back and let out a wild roar at the sky. Noah and the other red-robed witches staunched the bleeding from their wrists, then directed the Gorefiend to enter the dark formation.
The Gorefiend stood within the dark formation, and the power of darkness gathered around it. Its massive body began to swell, and the river of blood in the array was instantly drained dry.
Noah’s face was somewhat pale from the blood loss. She licked her lips, ran to Glanna’s side in a state of euphoria, and grabbed her arm. Her voice rose uncontrollably, “Let’s go, we’re entering the temple.”
Glanna glanced at the Gorefiend, whose aura had more than doubled, and narrowed her eyes slightly. With Noah’s incessant urging in her ears, she spun the bone staff in her hand and tapped it on the bone bridge, which began to extend toward the temple.
Inside the temple, Delia clutched her chest, silently watching Tang Qiu’s group. Outside, the beast’s angry roars echoed. It paced back and forth restlessly at the entrance, yet it dared not step inside out of fear.
Tang Qiu walked to the palace entrance and looked up at the beast outside for a few moments, her brow slightly furrowed. Kama, who had been following close behind her, was startled by the beast’s roars and buried her face in Tang Qiu’s clothes.
Lucille followed, paying little attention to the beast outside. Instead, her eyes were lowered, fixed on Kama, who was clinging to Tang Qiu.
After a brief greeting when they first met, Tang Qiu had ignored Delia. After watching her in silence for a while, Delia took the initiative to speak. “We have to work together to defeat the beast outside if we want to get out.”
“The other exit of this palace also has a beast. Elder Evan is over there.”
In truth, returning to Evan’s side and facing the beast with him was the most logical choice at the moment. But Delia didn’t want to. She would rather see Evan die at the hands of the beast.
Only then would she be free.
Hearing Delia’s words, Tang Qiu glanced back at her and said with a beaming smile, “We could also kill you before we leave.”
Delia was not intimidated by Tang Qiu. She lowered the hand clutching her chest and said flatly, “Without me, you might not be able to kill the beast outside.”
Besides, killing a fourth-generation Vampire, even with a werewolf and another Vampire working together, would certainly result in injuries. Delia believed Tang Qiu was not a foolish person.
Of course, Tang Qiu was not a foolish person, which was why she had first come to assess the beast’s condition before deciding how to deal with Delia.
There were no other paths out of the palace. Of the two remaining directions, one was the way Tang Qiu had come, where the Holy See was currently fighting a beast, and the other was where Delia said Evan was.
If they wanted to get out, their only option was to defeat the beast before them.
Tang Qiu felt they must have entered the wrong palace; the Godhead was not here.
Lucille reached out, pulled Kama away from Tang Qiu, and pushed her toward Erin. She then said to Delia in a cold voice, “Don’t try anything funny. After we kill the beast, we can let you go.”
Tang Qiu reached out and squeezed Lucille’s arm, then turned back to Delia with a smile and a nod. “I swear by the Light Goddess, as long as you behave, I will let you leave.”
Delia’s gaze lingered for a moment on the hand Tang Qiu had on Lucille’s arm before she said in a low voice, “I understand.”
Perhaps realizing she was at a disadvantage, Delia was very compliant. She obediently nodded at the tasks Tang Qiu assigned her, without any objections.
The beast was enormous, its hide thick and hard to pierce. It would be too difficult to kill it with strength or claws alone; even Faye couldn’t match it in a simple contest of strength. So, after some thought, Tang Qiu decided to use light magic from the rear to support Lucille and Delia’s attacks.
However, light magic would also suppress the Vampires, so Lucille and Delia’s positions, as well as the timing of Tang Qiu’s spells, all needed to be discussed in advance.
While the three of them were discussing how to deal with the beast, Erin listened intently for a while and realized there was nothing for her to do. She timidly raised her hand and said, “I can help too.”
Tang Qiu glanced at her, pushed Kama to her side, and said gently, “Just protect her. That’s enough.”
Erin was more skilled in witchcraft; her dark magic attacks were average. Tang Qiu had seen them once, and asking her to fight this beast would be a bit much.
Erin looked down, and Kama looked up. The two exchanged a glance, both clearly unsatisfied with this arrangement. But before they could voice their protests, Tang Qiu and the others had already dispersed to prepare for battle.
Kama silently walked over to a nearby pillar and squatted down. Erin watched her for a moment, feeling she looked a bit pitiful. After some thought, she took out the soundly sleeping Little Fur Ball and showed it to her, hoping to distract her.
But to her surprise, the moment she took out Little Fur Ball, Kama warily scurried to the other side.
Erin: “…”
It was truly a vexing thing when neither the pet nor its owner was very popular.
The beast dared not enter the palace and could only stand guard outside. It seemed to despise the intruders, its lantern-sized eyes constantly fixed on Tang Qiu and the others. It stomped its hind legs on the floor tiles in anger, producing dull thuds.
Lucille stood at the entrance, her gaze sweeping over the beast’s surroundings to familiarize herself with the terrain. A hand gently gathered her red hair, and Tang Qiu’s soft voice sounded in her ear, “Be careful.”
She took out a hair tie and carefully tied up Lucille’s long hair.
Lucille turned and wrapped her arms around Tang Qiu’s waist. Her other hand moved up to catch Tang Qiu’s wrist, bringing it to her lips, where she pressed a heavy kiss.
Tang Qiu raised an eyebrow, her eyes filled with a gentle smile. She chuckled softly, “I thought you were about to feed.”
“I will ask for it of my own accord after we leave this place,” Lucille said faintly, her lips brushing against Tang Qiu’s palm.
“Asking for payment?” Tang Qiu looked at Lucille teasingly, clearly recalling the time not long after they had met, when their relationship was still one of transactional benefits.
Lucille glanced at her, then opened her mouth and gently bit Tang Qiu’s palm. She whispered, “…To ask for you.”
After speaking, she turned and walked away, giving Tang Qiu no chance to respond. Tang Qiu watched Lucille’s back, the corners of her mouth lifting involuntarily.
The two of them had their backs to Delia during their intimate moment. Delia could hear them talking but couldn’t see what they were doing. However, their conversation alone was enough to spark the imagination.
While tying up her own hair, Delia scanned the backs of Tang Qiu and Lucille, her expression obscure, her thoughts unknown.
Using light magic from within the palace was undoubtedly the safest option. Tang Qiu stood at the entrance, staff in hand, and directly flung a ball of light flame to force the beast away from the palace.
Lucille and Delia seized the opportunity, leaping onto the beast’s back from the left and right. For a Gangrel, close-quarters combat was preferred, while for a Tzimisce who wasn’t skilled in fighting, certain weapons could make them more powerful.
Delia lay flat on the beast’s back, a sharp, pitch-black dagger in her right hand. She climbed a short distance up and then viciously plunged the dagger into the side of the beast’s neck.
The skin on its neck was more vulnerable than elsewhere, but even so, the dagger only went in a third of the way. It broke off inside without even piercing the beast’s defense.
Enraged by the stinging pain in its neck, the beast threw Delia off and raised a claw to swipe at her. Just as the claw was about to touch Delia, a golden light wrapped around it.
The beast’s claw recoiled from the searing golden light, and Delia landed safely on the ground.
While the beast was focused on attacking Delia, Lucille flew to its neck, aimed for the spot where the dagger had broken, and landed a heavy punch on it. The dagger sank deeper into the beast’s body, and a trickle of fresh blood flowed from the wound.
The beast began to thrash wildly in pain. Lucille was thrown off, just as Tang Qiu finished her incantation. Golden flames rained down on the beast’s back like droplets.
Erin held Little Fur Ball in both hands and watched nervously for a while. Seeing that the three of them were coordinating well, the anxiety in her heart slowly began to dissipate.
