LWGP - Chapter 16

Chapter 16: Airflow

The big man broke out in a cold sweat, quickly shrinking into his seat and shouting, "Help me, help me! Someone get over here and stop these monsters!"

Xiao Li and the Chief Purser were on the other side, unable to help. Wang Jiu was nearby, but she seemed to be in a difficult position. There were two goblins in front of her. One was in the aisle; if she didn't stop it, it would rush toward the passengers gathered in the back. The other was by the big man.

A difficult choice. Wasn't every life precious?

Wang Jiu's struggle was written all over her face. In the end, she resolutely slashed her dagger at the goblin in the aisle before her.

Pfft... The tough green skin of its throat was slit open. Blood gurgled out as its body slumped to the side. But Wang Jiu grabbed its arm, snatched the spiked club, and threw it.

Bang!

It crashed into the other goblin, which was on top of the big man, smashing him with its own spiked club. The sharp spikes of the thrown club plunged directly into the back of its head and spine. It shrieked once before its body went limp.

The big man had been screaming the whole time, not even having the strength to push the goblin off. In the heat of the moment, he had only been able to block the spiked club with his arms, and now the bones in both hands were broken.

"Are you still alive? I'll save you as soon as I have a free hand."

Wang Jiu's calm and capable voice was still reassuring. The big man coughed up blood, unable to speak.

The Chief Purser saw this, a thoughtful and complex expression on her face. But at that moment, no one could spare a hand, because goblins were still pouring out of the vortex!

This one was a little different. It held a sharp iron sword, and its build was much leaner and more slender. It didn't rush to attack. Instead, it surveyed its surroundings. Seeing its slain companions, it opened its mouth and spoke a few words in a strange language. The two goblins behind it replied, then turned and charged toward Xiao Li and the Chief Purser.

Damn it, they're trying to get into the cockpit!

Xiao Li and the Chief Purser had just teamed up to kill a goblin. Before they could even catch their breath, they saw two more coming at them and immediately grew tense.

Wang Jiu was about to move over, but she found the sword-wielding goblin to be very agile.

They could clearly communicate. The iron-sword goblin was a commander-type with higher intelligence. It knew Wang Jiu was formidable, having killed its companions. Seeing her approach, it dodged nimbly to the other side, avoiding direct contact. It was trying to kite her, keeping its distance to tie her down.

She could either chase it to protect the passengers over there, or ignore it to protect the cockpit.

It leaped onto a seat, using the springiness to vault over to the top of the window-side seatbacks, rapidly approaching the area behind the fourth row where the most "prey" was gathered.

This wasn't good.

The spatial constraints were indeed too limiting. She couldn't be in two places at once, and the seats were all obstacles. At her height, it was difficult to vault over seats like the goblin could. Most importantly, it knew to stick to the innermost side.

The dagger in her hand was the smallest of short-range weapons. To attack it, she would have to cross at least one seat, attacking from seat A or B. Getting in would be easy, but getting out would take time, and she wouldn't be able to keep up with the rate monsters were spawning from the vortex.

Throw the spiked club?

No, the spikes were too sharp and the club was too heavy. She was afraid that if she threw it too much, she might accidentally damage the plane's fuselage. Then everyone on board would be done for.

As Wang Jiu rapidly weighed the pros and cons, she could almost see the cunning glint in the little pea-sized eyes of the dodging iron-sword goblin. It even brandished its iron sword, as if in provocation.

Oh-ho!

What a nasty little thing.

Wang Jiu sighed, then allocated an attribute point.

Agility: 2 points -> 3 points.

The sensation of increased agility was like having a third of the useless impurities drawn from her entire body, leaving only a light and nimble feeling.

She could have actually put all three points into it, but this dungeon had just begun, hadn't it? She wasn't sure what kind of monsters would appear later, so this would have to do for now.

She charged toward the cockpit.

To say she charged was in the sense of momentum. What she did surpassed a normal person's understanding of "running." It was like the blink of an eye. To the naked eye, her figure was a single line, crossing over the scattered obstacles and goblin corpses on the floor. The line was fluid, blurry, yet its purpose was clear.

Three seconds ago, the Chief Purser and Xiao Li were desperately defending the cockpit door, swinging their spiked clubs with all their might to drive back the two threatening goblins. But in terms of strength, the Chief Purser was at a great disadvantage. A single swing from a goblin sent her club flying askew. Because she held on too tightly, refusing to let go, the webbing between her thumb and index finger split open. Blood dripped from the painful, gaping wound.

She lifted her face just in time to see the goblin, which only came up to her waist, use a seat's armrest to leap into the air, bringing its spiked club down toward her head.

"Watch out!" Xiao Li had fought alongside the Chief Purser and felt a certain camaraderie with her. But he was tied up and couldn't get away. Catching a glimpse of her crisis, his expression changed.

But... while the goblin's leaping strike was quite impressive in the third second, it wasn't so great in the fourth.

In mid-air, its thick, greasy green ankle was suddenly seized by a slender, pale hand. Swish! One hand yanked it down viciously while the other, holding the rookie's dagger, thrust upward.

The dagger snapped but still plunged straight into its heart. It let out a gurgle. The dagger was pulled out, dripping with green blood. With a turn, the blade spun in her palm. Gripping the handle, Wang Jiu threw it like a dart... Swish!

It flew, spinning, perpendicular to the plane of the room. Thwack! The entire blade sank into the chest of the short-sword goblin.

If Zhang Xu and the others were here, they would surely exclaim—when it comes to throwing darts and all sorts of lethal weapons, our director is a pro!

The short-sword goblin looked down, blood spilling from its mouth.

It couldn't understand how a seemingly ordinary human could possess such a ranged throwing ability.

Power, speed, precision.

Her speed was too fast now. So fast that it was still stuck in the stage where it had just forced this human to make a choice. Logically, she should still be agonizing over it, but in the blink of an eye, she had already cut through both sides.

Agility, once it reached a certain level, allowed her to turn the limited, even frustratingly limited, space of the airplane into a disadvantage for her enemies.

The short-sword goblin's clever little brain assessed her dangerousness. Before its eyes closed for the last time, it let out a strange, high-pitched shriek.

On the other side, as the dagger pierced the short-sword goblin's chest, Xiao Li watched as a hand reached out from behind the other goblin in front of him. Five fingers pressed against its bald, green head, while the other five gripped its lower jaw.

One hand could crush a phone charger. With two hands twisting a neck...

Crack!

It fell.

But Wang Jiu, having just snapped the goblin's neck, frowned slightly. Her gaze darted toward the vortex. What was that iron-sword goblin communicating just now?

A sense of unease washed over her. She quickly returned to the other side, pulled out her dagger, and kicked the iron sword across the aisle.

Xiao Li was stunned for a moment. "For her?"

Wang Jiu: "Yours."

The spiked club was ill-suited for a normal human. At over 1.8 meters tall, Xiao Li found it difficult to control the arc of his swing inside the cabin. He couldn't refuse the offer.

And with his physical fitness, he could inflict considerable damage with the iron sword.

Xiao Li raised an eyebrow, drew the sword, and was about to thank her.

Wang Jiu: "She's injured. She can't use it."

Xiao Li: "..."

Why did he get the feeling this person had a problem with him? But the Chief Purser felt Wang Jiu's approval. She looked at her with gratitude, only to find her staring at the vortex with a subtle expression, lost in thought.

Inspired by Wang Jiu's weapon distribution, the flight attendants who were still directing the passengers and keeping them from running around also caught on. They grabbed two nearby spiked clubs and gave them to two tall, sturdy men who had volunteered to stand up, forming a last line of defense.

They had just finished distributing them when, BOOM!!

The plane suddenly lurched violently. Everyone was shocked, struggling to keep their balance amidst the chaos. The Chief Purser rushed to her seat, grabbed the intercom, and asked about the situation in the cockpit.

The two pilots inside were safe. The Chief Purser had already informed them of the general situation outside and advised them not to come out under any circumstances. Although it was unbelievable, they trusted her words and quickly relayed the message to the control tower. Whether the tower believed them was another matter.

For now, the two pilots knew their duty: they had to fly the plane to the airport and land it safely. Besides, they had no chance to be distracted—the airflow at this altitude, and even the aircraft itself, felt very wrong.

Overloaded?

No, the weight of these goblins wasn't enough for that. The main problem was the high-altitude conditions!

The airflow was very strange. It felt like it was being generated from inside the plane itself, yet it was affecting both the interior and exterior of the aircraft.

This couldn't be explained by current scientific principles.

Of course it couldn't be explained—it was just one of the horror game dungeons that had not yet fully loaded into the Earth's dimension.

The plane kept shaking. It was very unstable.

Everyone was panicking. Wang Jiu had a headache; her worst fear had come to pass.

"How do you end this kind of wilderness invasion dungeon?" Wang Jiu asked the System.

"Explore on your own."

Then the vortex spat out four more goblins.

It was like cautiously @-ing your boss with hopeful expectations, only for your boss to ignore you and have HR send you a termination notice.

But coincidentally, at that very moment, the plane shook again. Amidst the powerful airflow, the pilot gave an instruction. The Chief Purser saw it and hurriedly announced to everyone: "We are about to encounter strong turbulence! The aircraft is descending! Please take your seats, fasten your seatbelts, and remain st—"

No number of goblins was as terrifying as this turbulence!

Before she could finish, BOOM! The plane dropped, and the cabin tilted... The Chief Purser and Xiao Li only had time to grab onto nearby straps, but their bodies still slammed into the wall behind them.

Thud! Thud! As sharp pain shot through their bodies, the overhead compartment doors burst open, and luggage rained down on the screaming passengers.

At the same time, the four newly emerged goblins were caught off guard and slid all the way to the front of the plane, toward the cockpit, with the tilt.

In the blink of an eye, they were at the cockpit door.

The Chief Purser and Xiao Li were horrified, but they were struggling to stay upright and could only watch as the four goblins stumbled and crashed one after another into the cockpit door. Oh, one of them was killed instantly on impact, and two were seriously injured. But they had managed to crack the door. Most importantly, one of the goblins, writhing in pain, saw the two pilots inside through a crack in the door.

Its eyes narrowed. It suddenly raised its spiked club, about to smash it against the door.

But before it could bring the club down, Wang Jiu, who had slid over with them, arrived. Smack. She grabbed a nearby handle with one hand, absorbing most of the impact's force, then let go and continued her forward momentum, using it to her advantage.

Swish! The dagger, held tightly in her hand, plunged into the goblin's head.

The combined force and momentum were too great, piercing straight through its skull.

Killed!

But... Swish!

Wang Jiu twisted her body at the last second, but her arm was still slashed open by another goblin. It was injured, but it held a short sword and was still capable of attacking. It lunged forward again, stabbing viciously at Wang Jiu's heart in the narrow space before the door.

With a sound like stabbing a large watermelon, the short sword plunged directly into her heart.
