LWGP - Chapter 12

Chapter 12: Three Attributes

System: "No need to test me. According to your individual life data, your intelligence index is above the baseline. I don't believe you missed the main point."

Alright then, a super black-tech detector? Doesn't that mean everything about me is completely exposed?

Wang Jiu narrowed her eyes, clicked the small green '+' sign below, and saw the supplementary information that popped up.

(The Mutated Python was originally a small green snake. In an illegal experiment conducted by the dean of Hospital 444, he selected snakes as the biological category for his experiments. Over ten years, he hatched and cultivated tens of thousands of small green snakes, but they all eventually died. Only this one survived and successfully mutated, becoming a python. However, due to its ferocious nature and slightly high intelligence, it was beyond the dean's control, forcing him to put it into hibernation. It was later awakened by an outsider...)

Reading this, Wang Jiu silently roasted, Aren't you the ones who let this 'outsider' in? This whole dungeon is just a pre-set data program.

But the main point came after.

(Because it is a cross-species mutated monster with growth attributes, it originally had a great future. However, it was suddenly killed in a novice dungeon by Unnumbered Weakling No. 1. Its soul was extremely unwilling to accept this and transformed into a vengeful spirit, entering this emblem. Therefore, this emblem also possesses growth potential. Although it is still a Bronze-grade piece of equipment, its future is promising.)

Oh, so it's upgradeable equipment.

And it boosts all attributes.

Even though Wang Jiu hadn't played many games, she could sense how rare this kind of growth attribute was. Even if its base stats were low, as long as it could grow, its future was promising.

But it certainly wasn't some game-breaking divine artifact that a protagonist gets right at the start of a novel. After all, the System had stated this was a game for all living beings. Under the screening of a massive player base and big data, there were bound to be countless people far more formidable than her. Since she could receive this kind of reward, others certainly could too, and perhaps even better ones.

"How does it grow?" Wang Jiu asked.

"You can use Strengthening Stones to enhance it. Strengthening Stones only drop from killing monsters in unexplored dungeons or from chests. After being enhanced to +10, it can be advanced. This rule applies to all growth-type equipment."

The emblem was equipment, and so were weapons and armor, of course.

Using equipment as a reference point, she could also learn that in the new world established by the System, equipment was divided into seven grades: Grey, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Purple Gold, Legendary, and Ancient.

In each grade, they were further divided into growth and non-growth types (this distinction only applies to equipment of Bronze grade and above; Grey grade doesn't have it).

Generally speaking, the value of growth-type equipment was far higher than non-growth types, unless it was a piece of equipment with special attributes.

System: "Equipment with narrative significance, non-replicability, and uniqueness."

Wang Jiu: "Historical significance? Like the story behind the Azure Serpent Emblem. If the meaning behind it surpasses growth itself—for example, if it was an item belonging to some great figure—then it's fixed and cannot grow?"

System: "Correct, that's the meaning."

Wang Jiu picked up the Grey-grade dagger and inspected its information.

Rookie's Dagger (Grey Grade)

Attribute: Strength +1

Weight: 2.5kg (Universal for reality and dungeons)

A 2.5kg dagger?

Even a pig-butchering knife isn't that heavy. How could it be useful?

Having temporarily obtained this information, she still had many more questions, but she had more urgent matters to attend to. She had to get out.

"Understood. Can I leave now?"

"Yes. The results for this novice dungeon have been calculated and will now be officially settled for you."

Ding-dong. When Wang Jiu was ejected from the Hospital 444 dungeon scene by the System, she entered a void-like, greyish-white space. She had probably passed through here when she first entered, but they were all unconscious then. Now, she was wide awake.

"Weakling No. 1, we will now officially settle your results for the 444 Novice Tutorial Instance: Rescued 2 tool-person NPCs, killed 5 murderers, 1 gunman, and 1 dean. Main quest completion rate: 70%. Side quest completion rate: 60%. Bonus result for killing the Mutated Python in the mini-scenario. Comprehensive judgment: MVP of this instance. This resulted in the dungeon completion reaching the 6-star 'Good' rating without finding the key. All survivors will receive an additional 1 attribute point. Your personal performance index, No. 1, reached 8 stars, achieving an 'Excellent' rating. (According to the reward rules for the Novice Tutorial Instance, a personal performance of 8 stars grants an additional 2 attribute points. PS: This stacks on top of the 'Normal' rating's 6-star cap. 7 stars = 1 point, 8 stars = 2 points, 9 stars = 3 points, and so on.) Note: This reward rule only applies to the Novice Tutorial Instance."

Wang Jiu opened the novice common knowledge appendix below and saw the relevant settings for dungeon completion.

Dungeon Completion or Personal Performance Index (calculated in stars): 1-3 stars is Normal, 4-6 stars is Good, 7-9 stars is Excellent, 10-12 stars is Superior, and above 12 stars is Perfect.

This distinction was made to represent the leap between performance tiers and create a gap in rewards.

For example, with group rewards, achieving a 'Good' rating grants attribute points, while a 'Normal' rating doesn't—it's just a simple clear. An 'Excellent' rating goes without saying.

The same applied to personal performance rewards, which were separate from the group rewards. Six stars was the watershed; anything less than six stars yielded no attribute points, and each star above it granted one additional attribute point.

Little by little, the gap would grow vast. The strong would only get stronger.

"According to the settlement data, your current rewards, No. 1, are as follows: 3 attribute points, the right to ask two key informational questions before the new world officially begins, one Copper Coin, the Rookie's Dagger, and the Azure Serpent Emblem."

"Furthermore, you have successfully shed your novice status and become a registered player of the game Wilderness Civilization. Below is your personal data."

ID: 564344744.

Level: 1 (EXP Bar - 0%)

Attributes (Current available attribute points: 3)

HP: 3 (All living beings start with 3, signifying three life chances in the Novice Tutorial Instance. Failing three times results in permanent death. This also applies to all future dungeons. HP can be increased with attribute points, at a rate of five attribute points for one point of HP.)

Strength: 1

Agility: 1

Stamina: 1

The attributes were simple. According to the general knowledge notes below, excluding HP which was a stat for the number of lives in a dungeon, the stats for Strength, Agility, and Stamina were broadly defined. The strength of a man versus a woman, or an old person versus a young adult, all fell within the limit of 1. Unless they surpassed the limit of this 1 unit, basically everyone was at 1.

"Within the entire human life system on Earth, those who can naturally reach 2 in any of the three attributes are as rare as a phoenix feather, less than one in ten million."

In other words, there were probably only a few hundred people on the entire planet with initial stats of 2 units or more.

And that was just for a single attribute.

"For example, what is the level of 2 units of Strength?"

System: "Equivalent to a weightlifter in your world who can lift 200kg."

Wang Jiu: "..."

As expected, 2 units was incredibly formidable.

"From the perspective of human physical limits, Stamina and Agility rely more on technique, while Strength is mostly innate. I imagine the majority of people who reach 2 units do so in Agility or Stamina."

System: "Regardless of which attribute, you are not among them."

You're quite the contrarian, aren't you.

Wang Jiu wasn't angry. Initially, she felt her rewards weren't much, but now it seemed the 3 attribute points she received were extremely valuable. The conversion rate for adding these points to the three basic attributes was 1:1. If she put all 3 points into Strength, she might instantly become the strongest person in the world (of course, this ranking didn't include other novice players who had also received attribute points).

Wang Jiu knew that gaps were relative. Without knowing what others had received, she couldn't judge the magnitude of her own gains.

That being the case, she had to plan carefully how to use them.

She confirmed the rewards but chose not to equip the two items, leaving them in her system inventory. She didn't even rush to use the two key information privileges or the bonus attribute points, opting to return to reality directly.

"At level 1, five system inventory slots are unlocked by default. Five more slots will open with each level up, but you can also use money to unlock additional slots."

"How many can one Copper Coin unlock?"

"..."

The System ignored her. Just then, Wang Jiu's vision changed, and she was back in the original operating room. She immediately saw Zhang Xu and Li Meng. They were clearly waiting for her and were overjoyed to see her return. Wang Jiu gave them no time for pleasantries, immediately retrieving her phone to dial a number while asking them about the situation in the operating room.

The two of them weren't fools. They hadn't waited for Wang Jiu just out of emotional concern; they also needed to establish a unified stance on what had happened.

"We checked. All the equipment in the operating room is normal, but there's a problem with the surveillance system. Right after we got back, the programming department contacted us and asked about the situation. We just said we didn't know anything and that the surgery went fine. Also, look at this Wang Shu. The surgery is marked as complete, and he's in even better condition than when it just finished. Lao Wang, come look at his wound recovery. Normally, it would take at least half a month to heal this well. Seeing this confirmed for us that our experience wasn't a dream. And the bruises on my body are gone too. It seems the System has some restorative functions."

One of human nature's instincts is self-preservation. Neither of them wanted to be treated as an anomaly or a lab rat, so they decisively concealed the truth for the time being, waiting for Wang Jiu to return before making any plans.

Wang Jiu naturally agreed with their approach. "For now, we don't know if our experience is widespread. Since there's no problem with the surgery, let's stick to the same story for now and pretend it never happened. And besides the three of us, I suggest you don't engage in any further social contact based on this matter. What I mean is—you can contact the people you knew before, but it's best not to reveal your specific information."

The two were startled. "Are you talking about Big Guy and Liu Guang? We don't even know where they're from. You think they'll be able to find us?"

"Just in case. Although we developed some camaraderie from escaping together, human nature is fickle. It doesn't hurt to be cautious—don't rashly let them find you in reality, and don't expose your game information. Your ID, attributes, none of it. That includes to me as well."

"However, I'm not against you sharing information about this matter with people you can trust, depending on the situation."

Depending on the situation—the phrasing was very clever.

It could be close family and friends, or it could be certain others one couldn't refuse.

The two understood, but they also felt a faint sense of unease. If such a necessity arose, it would mean the situation outside had become severe, affecting more than just their own lives and safety.

While talking to them, Wang Jiu had been continuously dialing a number on her phone, but it never connected.

She tried several times, then switched to a different number and tried again.

The result was the same. Zhang Xu and Li Meng noticed and found it strange, but they also saw that Wang Jiu's expression remained placid. They were a little intimidated and didn't dare to ask.

Having successfully cleared the dungeon, Zhang Xu and Li Meng had naturally become registered players with their own IDs and attributes. They had actually discussed it with each other earlier, but now that Wang Jiu had said this, they wouldn't do so lightly in the future.

After coming to a rough agreement, the three prepared to end the surgical procedure and leave. But just before they did, Wang Jiu suddenly pressed a scalpel against Wang Shu's chubby cheek and gently slid it back and forth.

She was smiling faintly, her movements gentle.
