LWGP - Chapter 11

Chapter 11: That's It?

"Current data review complete. Global first batch of Tutorial Instance, scene: Hospital 444. Total participants: 138 Weaklings. Current survivors: 11. All 13 representatives of the evil hospital faction in this instance have been eliminated. Instance completion conditions met. Do you wish to exit?"

Everyone was stunned. They had really completed it!

They fell silent, but Zhang Xu and Li Meng were crying tears of joy. Just as they were about to cheer, cheers came from outside.

"Holy shit, we completed it?!"

"We can get out! My dear mother! Did we just get carried to victory?"

The three of them had been hiding outside and rushed over as soon as they saw the situation was settled.

Zhang Xu glanced at them, probably feeling some camaraderie from their secret signal exchange, and chuckled. "Huh, the Zhen Huan trio? You're not dead yet?"

The three men ran out in a sorry state, also covered in blood. However, seeing the axe in one of their hands, no one would mock them for being carried. Just surviving was an incredible feat, not to mention they had killed one of the murderers.

Counting them up, the number of murderer kills now matched perfectly.

Their side had nine, and the trio had one.

But the kills for the Gunman, the Dean, and that Researcher were all on their side.

"No, we were super careful. Thank you guys so much, I... Holy shit! What are you doing, big sis!"

Wang Jiu had suddenly pointed her gun at them. In fact, it wasn't just her; Liu Guang and the others had all drawn their weapons—there was movement behind the three men!

At that moment, a warning also came from the System.

"An additional danger for this instance, the Mutated Python, has entered the basement scene. All survivors may choose to leave the scene now or remain to fight the Mutated Python. You have ten seconds to consider. 1, 2..."

Before the count even reached 5, a whole group of people vanished.

No, wait, two people were still left.

7, 8...

Liu Guang glanced at Wang Jiu, his eyes narrowing, but then he disappeared as well.

In the end, only Wang Jiu remained.

10.

System: "Weakling No. 1, Wang Jiu, you are this match's MVP. Are you sure you want to stay and eliminate the Mutated Python?"

"The time is up. Can I still choose to exit?"

"No. I'm just asking."

"Oh."

By now, Wang Jiu could already see a massive snake head emerging from the stairwell, so she ran quickly toward the car she had used earlier.

This python's scales had a bluish tint. At first glance, it was prettier than a normal python, and its form wasn't entirely snake-like, but its ferocity and immense size still made it terrifying—Wang Jiu hadn't forgotten those popsicles in the morgue.

After running to the car, Wang Jiu glanced back at the python. Finding her vision somewhat obstructed, she casually took off her cracked glasses and tossed them aside. The lenses shattered completely when they hit the ground. Without a second look, she pulled open the car door and got in.

Click, the car door shut.

Her sharp, cold eyes stared at the python from across the empty parking garage.

If Zhang Xu and the others were still here, they would have found Director Wang at this moment completely unfamiliar, not at all like the mature, rational, responsible, and easygoing big sister from before (though the Dean might not have thought so).

The python moved, its long body slithering out as it approached the car. The distance shortened. Wang Jiu asked the System, "Can the Corpse Dissolving Potion I got earlier work directly on this Mutated Python's skin?"

"No. The Mutated Python's current skin armor index is 10. The human skin armor index is 1. This data is for reference only."

"What about its flesh?"

Click-clack. As she asked, Wang Jiu removed the magazine to check the bullet count. Seven rounds left.

Hmm, she might be regretting the bullet she'd used to pierce the Dean's head.

That wretched old man only deserved a scalpel to the back.

"Unknown. Weakling No. 1 will need to experiment through practical application."

The System didn't provide all the intel, touting an open-ended, self-discovery experience. In other words, a Dog System.

Sliding the magazine back in, Wang Jiu frowned and sighed to herself, "I really don't like this 'Weakling' codename."

System: "While I admire your courage and composure, No. 1, I must remind you that even if you hide in the car, based on the attack patterns of pythons, this vehicle will likely be constricted, and you will die from the compression and deformation of the car's interior."

"A normal python would, but this one won't. According to Big Guy's description, its attack pattern is closer to biting and swallowing directly. That's because all the prey it has encountered so far have been of a fixed size—that is, humans. This has conditioned it into a singular hunting method that it won't easily change. Oh, just like now."

Given this python's surface defense and direct killing power, Wang Jiu knew that even ten of herself armed with guns would be no match. First, its surface defense was astonishing; even if a bullet pierced its armor, it wouldn't penetrate deep enough, causing a superficial wound at best. Second, the sweeping force of its tail was incredible, as the gruesome scene inside the elevator had already demonstrated.

Without the time to create a truly lethal firearm, she had only one opening.

The python right in front of her had already sensed the heat radiating from Wang Jiu inside the car. It opened its cavernous mouth—crunch—and bit down on the vehicle, pushing forward with its lower jaw.

As expected, it didn't use its body to constrict and crush the car. Otherwise, Wang Jiu would have been deformed right along with it.

More than half the car was already in the python's mouth, about to slide down into its stomach. Wang Jiu stomped on the gas. The car lurched forward, causing the Mutated Python extreme discomfort in its mouth. It began to squeeze with its upper and lower jaws. At this point, the car's metal frame did indeed begin to deform, but that also meant the muscles inside its mouth were now pressed against the car's skin.

Wang Jiu seized the opportunity to fire her gun at the car's metal roof.

Bang!!!

The bullet tore through the car's skin and into the python's upper palate. There was no protective skin here, only soft muscle. The python cried out in pain, and its jaws stopped moving, as doing so would be agonizing. The car's deformation lessened slightly.

At that moment, Wang Jiu estimated the position, climbed from the driver's seat to the back, and fired again. Some bullets hit flesh, others hit bone.

It was called a mutation, and it certainly had the credentials for it.

Five bullets later, with blood dripping down, she still hadn't found its brain.

This was getting troublesome.

However, she had a rough idea of the bone distribution. Considering the structure of a snake... the brain should be in this position.

She pinpointed the location in her mind, but she was running out of time. The python, sensing how troublesome the prey in its mouth was, felt a sense of crisis and began trying to swallow the car into its stomach.

Two bullets left.

Wang Jiu pulled the axe from her waist, quickly used the gaps from the bullet holes to chop open the car's skin and widen the opening, then shoved the bottle of Corpse Dissolving Potion through the hole and into the flesh of the python's upper palate. Then she fired a shot from below. Bang!

The bottle shattered. The bullet passed through the Corpse Dissolving Potion, carrying the splashing liquid into the flesh. In an instant, Wang Jiu smelled a strong, acrid, corrosive stench. Oh ho! This stuff worked well.

The python thrashed in agony, and the entire car shook with it. Its tail slammed into a pillar, cracking several stones, and swept across other cars, sending several of them flying.

Its killing power was truly astonishing. If she had been hit by that tail, Wang Jiu would have been turned into meat paste.

As loud crashes echoed outside, Wang Jiu braced herself inside by planting one foot against the back of the driver's seat. She held the gun with one hand, the long barrel passing through the hole. Using the light filtering in through the gap of the snake's unclosable mouth, she took aim at the hole from which corrosive blood was now pouring and fired the last shot.

Bang!!!

The bullet finally entered the Mutated Python's brain.

Three seconds later, the car fell silent. The Mutated Python also fell silent, lying there motionless.

System: "Congratulations, Weakling No. 1, for successfully killing the Mutated Python of instance Hospital 444. Data review complete. Based on the solo kill, excellent kill efficiency, and no personal injury, the comprehensive evaluation is excellent. This result will be added to your total score for this instance. You may also activate the monster treasure chest and unlock the corpse loot function ahead of schedule. A reminder: As this is a Tutorial Instance, there is no treasure chest drop for this kill. However, because the Mutated Python is classified as an instance monster, you may choose to unlock its corpse loot. The method is as follows."

Wang Jiu glanced at the very vivid instruction manual. To summarize: extend your little hand, touch the corpse, and then select 'unlock'.

A very user-friendly, point-and-shoot camera-style operation.

Specifically, it was one word—touch!

Wang Jiu climbed out of the car, touched the snake's corpse, and a prompt popped up: "Confirm unlocking loot?"

"Yes."

Then she saw a progress bar for dissecting the corpse.

This... gave her a strangely subtle feeling.

Has it really been gamified?

While waiting, Wang Jiu noted that this System fellow was very pragmatic and snobbish; its attitude toward her had clearly changed. Perhaps she could use this opportunity to get more information.

"Was this instance an isolated incident, or the beginning?"

"The beginning."

Wang Jiu's brow tightened. Lost in thought, she asked, "Everyone?"

"Initially, a portion of the population, chosen at random. But it will soon encompass all living beings."

"All living beings?"

"Including cockroaches."

"..."

As if she'd thought of something, Wang Jiu's expression suddenly turned ugly.

"Can I leave now?"

"No. The unlocking is not yet complete, and I am calculating your total score for this newbie instance."

"Your efficiency isn't very good, then."

"..."

The one who had been so refined and polite suddenly became irritable.

The System, unfamiliar with human nature, thought to itself, Could it be that this No. 1 has a pet cockroach? Is she worried about it?

Ding! Unlocking complete.

The entire massive snake corpse disintegrated and vanished in an instant, leaving only three items behind.

A rather plain, ordinary bronze coin.

A dagger that emitted a dull, dusty-grey glow.

And a badge with the insignia of an azure serpent.

"One dollar," Wang Jiu questioned the System in a tone of utter contempt.

System: "This is a Copper Coin, the lowest denomination of currency in the new world to come. It is valid in both reality and the system."

New world? Universal?

Catching the key information, Wang Jiu narrowed her eyes. "Does the System have a store that sells things?"

System: "No. There will be no trading market between the System and players. However, there is an auction market between players. You will understand the specifics once you finish this newbie instance and successfully activate your ID-bound game."

Without waiting for Wang Jiu to speak, it seemed to have its own priorities and quickly added, "However, you killed an additional monster that was above your level during the newbie period. A reward of one Copper Coin is quite stingy. But at least you got a dagger. Obtaining a weapon right after the newbie instance is treatment generally reserved only for outstanding MVPs."

This meant it wasn't something Wang Jiu had gotten by luck, but a standard reward the System gave to outstanding MVPs. A weapon?

That important?

"I can bring it into the next real instance, right? Meaning I'll have a weapon from the start?"

"Yes."

The System was not surprised that Wang Jiu had grasped the key point.

System: "However, the main point is this badge."

Wang Jiu picked it up and frowned suddenly. What was it made of? It was much heavier than she'd imagined, almost half a kilogram, yet it was just a badge.

Then she saw its attributes.

Azure Serpent Emblem (Bronze Grade)

Attributes: All attributes +1.

Weight: 0.5kg (Valid in reality and instances)

"Doesn't look like much. Just +1?" Wang Jiu deliberately tested the System with a disdainful tone.

To put it another way—that's it?
