VAP - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: The Sleeping Beauty Whose Words Are Law (4)
The sensation of the system and host merging was like a sugar crystal dropped into a pool of water, instantly melting and dissolving into sweet molecules that permeated every single drop.
It was wondrous... but also indescribably awkward, as if while everything about the other person was laid bare to her, everything about herself was also laid bare to them.
The system's core data successfully merged, transforming into a tiny point of light that sank down, down into the host's mental space.
It sent out invisible ripples, only retracting them after it had detected and analyzed Qi Jiu's physical data.
When Yue Du opened her eyes, she was already in her original human form, standing within Qi Jiu's mental space.
Everyone had their own mental space, and each one presented a different scene, determined by the individual's conscious energy. There was no standard by which to measure them.
These scenes could be a calm and tranquil sea, an ornate palace with carved beams and painted rafters, or even an unremarkable, ordinary house from which one could open a window and see the bustling streets...
The person themselves couldn't see the scenery within their own mental space, but it would change according to the consciousness deep within their heart.
One day it might be crowded with house after house, and the next it could become a vast plain. Others remained the same forever, never changing.
As for Qi Jiu's mental space... it was rather peculiar.
Yue Du looked around.
A silent, azure lake, a brilliant, warm sun, a large expanse of green grass perfect for lying down and resting, and several temple-like buildings whose snow-white domes looked holy and serene under the bright sunlight.
It was a beautiful place, and, of course, a perfect place for a nap.
Qi Jiu's conscious form was lying on the white stone steps outside one of the buildings, hands clasped behind her head, enjoying a sunbath with her eyes closed.
Her already fair and translucent face seemed to become even whiter under the sun, almost transparent, possessing an ineffable beauty.
A host could only enter their own mental space after falling asleep...
Therefore, Qi Jiu's presence here proved that she had once again become a sleeping beauty, resting comfortably on that soft, large bed.
But even though her physical body was asleep, her conscious form in this mental space was still single-mindedly focused on lying down—
Truly lazy, it seemed.
Yue Du was filled with helplessness.
But she knew Qi Jiu must be conscious. After all, such a short time wasn't enough for her to fall into the deepest sleep, sinking into a subconscious that even the system couldn't explore.
So she took a step forward. As she did, the body of a twenty-three-year-old woman gradually transformed into the likeness of a seventeen-year-old girl.
To be honest, the changes to her figure and skin were not significant... but the temperament of the system as a whole was now completely different.
This girlish system walked with light steps to the foot of the stone stairs.
When Qi Jiu noticed the movement and lazily opened her eyes, the person who appeared before her was the youthful and delicate seventeen-year-old version of Yue Du.
The girl wore a uniform somewhat similar to a summer school dress. Her mid-length black hair was scattered casually over her shoulders, her features were delicate, and she possessed the unique youthfulness and vitality of someone her age.
Her eyes, with their slightly upturned corners, were a light shade. In the sunlight, they looked like two cups of translucent raw pu'er tea.
"Hello, Qi Jiu."
Meeting the host's half-open, almost pure black eyes, Yue Du offered a gentle, soft smile tinged with joy. "It's a pleasure to meet you! My name is Yue Du. I'm a system who graduated from the Main God's system training program seven days ago. Starting today, I'll be at your service."
How does one quickly build a good relationship with a host?
Yue Du decided to first establish some common ground between them. The common ground she chose was their status as students.
Who would be overly guarded against a fledgling little system who still had the air of a student about her? Especially not Qi Jiu, who was a high school student herself.
Yue Du knew that Qi Jiu didn't normally read novels or manga, and that the concepts of "systems" and "Main Gods" didn't exist in the online literature of this small world.
In this situation, Qi Jiu would surely be utterly confused and would first ask what a "system" was, and then what a "Main God" was.
That would give them a topic of conversation. With a bit of back and forth, how could they not become familiar with each other?
Yue Du's own little scheme was clicking along perfectly.
However...
"What did you say your name was?" Qi Jiu asked nonchalantly.
Her beautiful black eyes widened a fraction, but they were still languid, as if they might close again at any moment.
The long list of definitions Yue Du had prepared got stuck in her throat. She took a deep breath, swallowed her prepared speech, and said without a change in expression, "My name is Yue Du. The 'Yue' for excellence, the 'Du' for reading."
"Sounds like a good student," Qi Jiu commented.
Her tone was flat, making it impossible to tell if she was offering praise, criticism, or simply making an association without any deeper meaning.
Yue Du smiled and replied, "You guessed right. I was number one among the systems in my graduating class, for every single assessment."
Qi Jiu closed her eyes and said casually, "So my luck is pretty good, getting assigned an honor student system to serve me?"
Yue Du nodded. "That's right."
Qi Jiu gave an enigmatic smile, finally moving her clasped arms from behind her head. Pushing up on her elbows, she sat up gracefully.
"Sit here," she said, patting the empty space on the steps beside her, her tone soft and slow. "Tell me about what you systems do. And while you're at it, you can go ahead and give me all those explanations you prepared."
Yue Du: "...Alright."
What else could Yue Du say? She was just a poor, helpless little system.
The little system sat beside Qi Jiu and dutifully began to function as a walking encyclopedia.
Author's Notes
Back when Yue Du was alive, most people in the industry knew that the great agent Yue's acting skills were better than any of the artists she managed...
Not that it did her any damn good.
