VAP - Chapter 4

Chapter 4: The Sleeping Beauty Whose Words Are Law (3)

Yue Du observed in secret for a full week, gaining a deeper understanding of her future host.

Qi Jiu was truly a sleepyhead.

Moreover, this unusual sleepiness had nothing to do with any medical condition. Yue Du had once considered whether she might have Kleine-Levin Syndrome—a disease colloquially known as Sleeping Beauty Syndrome, characterized by periodic hypersomnia and pathological hunger, which is quite distressing for the patient.

But Yue Du quickly overturned this guess on her own.

Qi Jiu’s sleep was entirely within her control. The eighteen-hour-a-day super-long standby was simply because she herself wanted to sleep!

As for symptoms of hunger, they were nonexistent.

Perhaps because she expended little energy daily, Qi Jiu’s meal portions were smaller than average. Her three meals a day were delivered by a dedicated person, but she was quite picky. The moment she tasted something that didn’t suit her palate, she would frown, set her chopsticks aside, and go back to sleep.

Then, an auntie responsible for cleaning would come over and dutifully clear the dining table.

Yue Du: “…”

That’s right, Qi Jiu’s family was quite wealthy and influential, which was why they could afford to wait on this young lady. It was said that the Qi family’s steward had even donated a building to the school, hinting that the faculty shouldn’t disturb the young lady’s sleep.

Yue Du was noncommittal about this.

If that was really the request, it would be better to let Qi Jiu sleep at home. Why bother with the commute?

However, it was true that the school’s teachers turned a blind eye to her. Yue Du couldn’t understand the reason for this excessive indulgence until one day in math class…

“This problem! Didn’t I go over a similar type of problem last week?” The math teacher slapped the lectern with the board eraser, his voice trembling with anger. “What, not a single one of you knows how to do it? Not one?!”

The entire class was silent as cicadas in winter.

It had happened—the most terrifying scenario: “Nobody knows how to do a problem that’s already been taught”!

Usually, in such situations, the teacher would get angry and call on the students in the front row or the top-ranking students one by one. After discovering that no one could solve it, he would fly into a rage, then spend the entire class period slamming the lectern and sighing loudly to make the students remember this profoundly significant and difficult problem!

Even Yue Du, who had been away from the classroom for many years, couldn’t help but tremble… if data could tremble.

The atmosphere grew tense. The math teacher’s sharp gaze swept across the room, and he suddenly raised his voice, “Tong Manman, wake Qi Jiu up.”

All the students: “!”

They subconsciously looked toward the back row of the classroom.

The girl sitting in front of Qi Jiu, having been called out, had no choice but to glance back cautiously, her voice tight. “Teacher, there’s really no need—”

The math teacher was dismissive. “Wake her up! The reason I don’t bother her usually is so I can use her at times like this. Otherwise, who would want to spoil her.”

Tong Manman’s face was crestfallen. “Then… then maybe you should do it yourself, Teacher?”

The math teacher: “…Useless.”

In the end, Tong Manman took a deep breath and woke Qi Jiu up.

Yue Du suspected that Qi Jiu was usually very grumpy when she woke up, enough to make her classmates tremble in fear. How could she not be?

Fortunately, Qi Jiu didn’t say anything this time.

The math teacher asked her to come up and solve the problem.

“Just write the simplest solution for them to see!” the teacher emphasized, fuming. “It’s not like I haven’t broken it down and explained it in detail. Every single one of you has a terrible memory.”

A boy in the second row muttered under his breath, “This problem is different from last week’s. The third condition…”

The teacher heard him and glared. “If the problem type is the same, it’s the same. Don’t make excuses for yourself.”

Qi Jiu glanced in that direction before slowly putting on her jacket and walking up to the podium.

She picked up a whiteboard marker, glanced at the problem nonchalantly, and began to write.

Qi Jiu’s handwriting was beautiful, with an obvious languor—just like her. It also had an unrestrained, free-spirited quality that was pleasing to the eye.

Without even needing to think much, or perhaps the thought process was entirely internal and not shown, Qi Jiu wrote down the steps to the solution with the grace of flowing water.

That’s right, not even a scrap of paper for calculations. It was all mental math.

After finishing, Qi Jiu placed the marker aside and returned to her seat on her own.

She pulled her jacket over herself and fell asleep again in a second.

The math teacher was very satisfied; this was exactly the effect he wanted. “Do you all get it now? Did you understand? Raise your hand if you understood!”

After a brief silence, only two or three hands went up.

The teacher took two deep breaths in a row. “Fine, you’re all really something. I’ll explain it again. If I see this type of problem next time and you still don’t know anything—heh heh.”

Using the solution Qi Jiu had written, the teacher began his lecture.

Yue Du, who had witnessed all of this: “…”

Yue Du’s composure had shattered.

This was all wrong. Her future host wasn’t just a great beauty and a school tyrant, but also a top student—the kind who could save the teacher in a pinch and provide a demonstration?

No matter how she thought about it, a person like this wouldn’t develop into a villain. This was clearly the standard setup for a protagonist!

These variables would have too great an impact on the mission.

Without further hesitation, Yue Du immediately wrote a five-thousand-word observation report and submitted it to the customer service in the System Space.

The report described Qi Jiu’s daily life, personality, and behavior in meticulous detail. The image of a cold, sleepy, high-IQ, and languid young lady came to life on the page, forming a stark contrast with the pitiful character described in the files.

At the end of the report, Yue Du seriously proposed:

My designated host’s experiences are severely inconsistent with the information on file. I suspect there are some problems with the mission world that may affect the progress of the mission. I hope Miss Customer Service can reply as soon as possible with an explanation and a solution.

She also attached a photo of Qi Jiu just after waking up, a panoramic photo of the Qi family’s high-end residence, and a photo of Qi Jiu solving the problem with flair.

Miss M, a humanoid customer service representative in the main hall of the System Space, did indeed reply to her very quickly.

To: 0996

Dear, you don’t need to worry. It’s normal for the actual situation in a small world to differ from the mission data!

After inspection, everything is normal with the villain Qi Jiu in the 161 Silver Galaxy Small World. The changes are within a normal range and will not affect the villain mission. Rest assured.

Qi Jiu is so beautiful, isn’t 0996’s heart moved? Having such a host is a gain.

Additionally, the space’s technical staff found that System 0996 does not seem to have bound with a host yet… M regrets to inform you that this constitutes passive sabotage. Please bind with Qi Jiu immediately.

Wishing you a smooth mission and an early return!

Sincerely,

—Customer Service M

Not only did she not get an explanation, but she was also accused of passive sabotage?

Yue Du was so angry she wanted to delete the reply, but after a moment’s thought, she calmed down. After all, communication records with the System Space couldn’t be deleted casually; they could be used as evidence if something went wrong in the future.

So she backed up the reply before viciously deleting the original to vent her frustration.

Of course, she still had to bind. By binding, there was a chance to complete the mission. Without binding, the mission couldn’t even be unlocked.

It happened to be the end of the school day, and Qi Jiu was already awake, yawning lazily.

Yue Du adjusted her data to its optimal state. A stream of blue data gradually formed a chain, its tip aimed at the space between Qi Jiu’s eyebrows. The target seemed completely unaware.

The next moment, fusion.

The system’s data stream broke down into several strands, simultaneously pouring into Qi Jiu through the space between her eyebrows. The blue and the fluorescent white light intertwined, creating a scene of stunning, magnificent beauty. It was a pity that it occurred in a form unobservable to ordinary people, so no one could glimpse its splendor.

The entire process was extremely fast, taking less than one-hundredth of a second. It seemed that no one would ever know of this moment.

But Qi Jiu suddenly paused, her usually half-lidded eyes widening slightly.

During the fusion, the system had no perception of the outside world, so Yue Du naturally had no way of knowing—

As she was fusing, what kind of interested gaze and expression her host wore.

Yue Du: Reminds me of the fear of being dominated by the top students in my class.jpg

Qi Jiu: So you reported me to your space just because of that?

Yue Du (calmly): How could that be? Isn’t it standard procedure to submit an observation report when there are anomalies?
