Chapter 39

The method for selecting the 'sheep' was quite simple.

Regardless of how many squads made up the opposing Mob Squad, their rule was to fleece only members of other squads. A family sticks together—even to the end.

In this hastily assembled large team, teammates generally stood close together for a sense of security and to ensure they could counterattack at any time.

This positioning happened to give Kai Yun and the others an opportunity.

After rushing out, Kai Yun circled with her finger, marking the area, and shouted, "Hit these three!"

The four of them simultaneously concentrated their firepower, launching a storm of dense attacks towards the spot she indicated.

The commentator exclaimed, "Excellent, they are still using the tactic of a small group surrounding a larger one, a reverse pincer movement! What can I say? Perhaps this counts as a strategy? As long as it helps them score points, there's nothing wrong with it. But I still hope they become more cohesive after getting to know each other!"

Kai Yun's team's coordination was... tacit – the kind where everyone fought their own battle.

They seemed utterly incapable of working together. Forget entrusting their backs to each other; their teammates felt more like ghosts behind them, whose mere presence severely reduced their individual strength and affected their deep friendship.

This peculiar lack of trust spawned a new type of team cooperation. The name could be patented: "Don't Touch Me!"

If the camera zoomed out, you could see Kai Yun's team's positioning was like this: Jiang Tu unleashed his ultimate in the middle of the enemy formation. Lei Kaiding charged to the front to intercept, Kai Yun stood directly opposite Lei Kaiding, and Ye Sa chose to hang on the left or right side of the mountain path depending on the 'sheep's' position.

Even though there were only four of them, to the students caught in the encirclement, it felt like they were being attacked by a hundred thousand units of firepower. After all, who could withstand Ye Sa's continuous hidden weapons, Kai Yun's occasional flashing flying knives, and Jiang Tu's impenetrable sword array?

Even their own 'plastic' teammates were dumbfounded.

The surrounded students angrily yelled at their allies, "Holy crap! What are you looking at? Hurry up and come help!"

The remaining examinees immediately hesitated.

After all, it was just a 'plastic' relationship. Kai Yun and the others' stance looked truly terrifying. Should they risk going up to save people, or should they take advantage of the 'demon king' being occupied and escape first?

After a moment of hesitation, seeing no one step forward, they chose the latter.

Their noble heads turned resolutely, leaving behind only cold, heartless backs, bidding farewell to the few who were surrounded.

The abandoned teammates cursed loudly behind them.

"There are more of us, why are you running?! Don't you have any knightly dignity? Fight them head-on!"

A righteous rebuttal came back from the air, "There are a lot of First Military Academy people too, look at their results! Is dignity more important than life? You're dying without any dignity either!"

The three left behind were instantly dealt a heavy blow, both physically and mentally.

The commentator gleefully announced, "A large-scale friendship breakdown in progress! This scene is being replayed everywhere in this examination hall. It tells us that a man's mouth is truly a lying devil, and an ally's mouth can even deceive a ghost."

These temporary alliances were truly unreliable. They didn't even need a major disaster; a small disagreement was enough for them to scatter. There were also internal conflicts triggered by point distribution, teams of examinees who enjoyed playing spy games, and all sorts of bizarre squabbling scenes. 'Plastic' could at least be maintained; the relationships between them were like eggshells, shattering with a single tap.

The commentator added, "Of course, Kai Yun's mouth is a 'walkthrough guide'. No one can escape because what she says is truly reasonable!"

When those three little darlings were left isolated and helpless, Kai Yun smiled at them and said, "Give up resisting! I'll go chase them down and avenge you!"

Lei Kaiding skillfully chimed in, "Your outcome cannot be changed, but you can change theirs! You are still a very influential player!"

Kai Yun: "Eliminating one competitor opens another door to victory."

Jiang Tu was practical: "A one-hit kill corpse can look a bit better."

Ye Sa said, "The cafeteria is opening."

The three gradually lost their fighting spirit. Their movements slowed, they sighed softly, their faces showing disappointment mixed with a sense of heroic sacrifice.

Kai Yun quickly closed in, no longer bothering to break their defense, and finished them with one strike. Keeping her promise, she left them in a dignified posture.

The commentator drew out his words, sighing dramatically, "As expected, it's the same result again."

The audience had finally seen enough major scenes; they were children tempered by society now. They could maturely smoke cigarettes, shake their legs, and comment on this match.

"Well done. pats shoulder"

"'The cafeteria is opening,' that sounds exactly like something Kai Yun would say."

"Brother Ye's subtext is that he wasn't full just now. Do you think he was talking to the opponents? No, he was talking to Kai Yun."

"It shouldn't be long until they clear the stage. The fewer people there are, the more advantageous it is for them."

After dealing with these three, Kai Yun waved her hand, and the team immediately moved forward without stopping.

Ye Sa had been walking on one side of the path while Kai Yun walked on the other. Ye Sa looked straight ahead, seemingly unintentionally, slowly moving towards the middle, then stopped about a meter away from Kai Yun.

His change was too sudden; he had been acting strangely since earlier, as if he was holding something back. If he weren't her teammate, Kai Yun would have suspected he had ulterior motives.

Kai Yun turned her head and asked directly, "What are you doing?"

Ye Sa said something out of the blue, "Those who can survive on Rebuilt Barren Star are all strong." Ordinary people couldn't cope with the complex environment of Rebuilt Barren Star.

"I know," Kai Yun said. "That's why I came to the Alliance Military Academy Tournament to recruit people."

Ye Sa said, "How could people from the Alliance follow you to Rebuilt Barren Star? What doesn't the Alliance have? Even if you struggle there for thousands of years, it won't become like the Alliance. Would anyone be willing to leave a utopia?"

"Rebuilt Barren Star also has ideals. And it's especially fulfilling," Kai Yun said. "Wouldn't an 'infrastructure maniac' be happy there?"

Ye Sa shook his head. "That's different."

He opened his mouth, wanting to say more, but Jiang Tu ahead turned back and made a shushing gesture, indicating someone was ahead. Jiang Tu held up three fingers, indicating that there was likely a depleted team that had just finished a battle.

Kai Yun and Ye Sa immediately hid in the trees to ambush, leaving him and Lei Kaiding to lure the enemy.

Ye Sa climbed onto the tree next to Kai Yun's. After a while, he spoke to Kai Yun again, "Why did you go to Mobile University?"

Kai Yun asked, "Then why did you?"

Ye Sa: "Mobile University is convenient. You pay and you're in. You can choose any grade." Regular military academies have so much paperwork it's annoying.

Ye Sa asked, "Were you also there to participate in the Alliance Military Academy Tournament?"

"Not really," Kai Yun said. "I was rejected by the Alliance Military University."

Ye Sa said, "How is that possible? Even if you weren't from Rebuilt Barren Star, you should have been able to get in."

"Probably because..." Kai Yun said uncertainly, "I have Rare Energy Immunity?"

It was earth-shattering.

Ye Sa stumbled, almost falling off the tree.

"Pfft—"

In the pub, Qin Linshan spat out a mouthful of wine. He cursed loudly, his voice perfectly blending with the commentator's and Ye Sa's, issuing a soul-searching question: "What Rare Energy Immunity?!"

"It's just immunity. Does it mean I can't use general high-level weapons? We only have one ancestral saber on Rebuilt Barren Star. I only realized after coming to your Alliance that the weapons here are completely different from ours," Kai Yun said. "It should be because of this, right?"

Ye Sa's face turned the color of soy sauce. After a long time, he managed a sentence that might or might not have been encouraging: "...You can say that with a bit more confidence."

Kai Yun: "Oh, okay then."

Ye Sa fell silent, turned his head, and hugged the big tree beside him tightly, presumably in private shock.

"Damn it!" Qin Linshan wiped his mouth, anxious. "Why aren't you asking her more?! How can someone have Rare Energy Immunity? Who's ever heard of such a thing?!"

Not long after, the restless Ye Sa turned his head again and asked, "Really?"

"Really," Kai Yun said. "Is it that rare?"

Ye Sa: "...Rare."

This was the first time in his life he had ever heard of it.

Ye Sa had never felt so gossipy. With trepidation mixed with probing, he cautiously asked, "Then, how immune are you?"

"Isn't immunity complete?" Kai Yun said honestly. "It says 'Immune' on my physical examination report. Every year. I originally wanted to get a handy weapon, but I tried them in your training building and found they weren't as good as my original saber."

Ye Sa's fingers twitched, hugging the tree a little tighter.

"Didn't anyone tell you what this means? You've been practicing martial arts for so long?"

Kai Yun said, "What does my martial arts training have to do with this? My master said to learn it if I liked it!"

Ye Sa: "...Oh."

Their conversation was scattered.

Qin Linshan wanted to rush into the screen in person, first headbutt Ye Sa out of the way, then headbutt Kai Yun unconscious. Everything could be over then.

A moment later, Ye Sa spoke again, "Don't be sad..."

Kai Yun looked bewildered. "Sad about what? I don't think it's a big deal. As the saying goes, 'Heaven has endowed me with talent for a purpose.' When I draw my saber, I can scare them to death too."

"It's just..." Ye Sa found that his sympathy had nowhere to go when facing Kai Yun. Finally, he just added, "Qin Linshan is quite a jerk." He didn't even tell her.

Qin Linshan slammed the table in anger. "What does that have to do with me?!"

He didn't train this child! He had only just taken her in!

Kai Yun asked, "Really?"

Ye Sa nodded solemnly. "Really. It's all because he's too irresponsible."

Kai Yun thought he was talking about Qin Linshan's past deeds. She frowned and said, "That's too bad. I didn't see that."

"You..." Ye Sa uttered a famous line. "You're quite naive."

Not far away, Lei Kaiding sneezed and looked around twice.

Wow, he had the illusion that his 'brother in misfortune' was not far away.

Qin Linshan was going crazy, clutching his hair. He repeatedly banged his head against the table, causing the surrounding customers to stare at him in surprise. The owner was startled, hesitating whether to call the police.
