SCOM - Chapter 63
Chapter 63
“I didn't expect you to be Zuo Dihong's daughter,” Zhang Yongzhen said, smiling down at Zuo Luohuan. “It was worth waiting here for several days.”
Ever since he saw Zuo Luohuan at the administrative center, he'd felt a strange sense of familiarity. But Shui Bai never got close to anyone and didn't particularly like Omegas, while Zuo Luohuan was openly entangled with Ji Yuezhi. It was said they lived separately but clung to each other whenever they could.
Still, he couldn't ignore that inexplicable familiarity, so he decided to keep watch at the research institute alone at night.
When he brought them for the introduction, he deliberately misled them, saying the sixth floor was off-limits and the professor only came on specific days. In reality, the most esteemed professor at the institute worked in his second-floor office every day, and the safe in the corner of his office would trigger an alarm if opened.
Zhang Yongzhen waited in the sixth-floor testing room every night, telling no one. If no one came, the familiarity would have been his mistake. But if someone did come… it had to be Shui Bai.
Over the years, they had been very careful. Only Shui Bai had noticed something and escaped.
Zhang Yongzhen completely ignored Zuo Luohuan's questions, clearly certain she was Shui Bai.
The slight smile on Zuo Luohuan's face vanished completely. She looked up at him expressionlessly. “I thought you would at least kill me yourself.”
Hearing this, Zhang Yongzhen jumped down from the second floor. “Last time, something came up, so I handed you over to Hong Tongdao. Not this time. After all, you're my friend. I want to send you off personally.”
The moment he landed, Yan Yan seized the opportunity to escape to the emergency stairwell with the documents, quickly ascending. He didn't dare linger, sprinting to the top floor, pulling out the grappling hook from his backpack, and throwing it towards the adjacent administrative building. Using the rope, he quickly entered through a window.
— I must get these documents out.
On the first floor of the research institute, Zuo Luohuan looked at Zhang Yongzhen and suddenly laughed. “Send me off? You can try.”
“I'm curious how you escaped from the mine,” Zhang Yongzhen said, controlling a fully formed second-generation robot dog. He didn't take Zuo Luohuan's words seriously.
Hong Tongdao had tortured her to near death, injecting her with all sorts of drugs, especially Delirium, the best drug for interrogating Alphas. Even the strongest Alpha couldn't endure the pain after being injected with Delirium. So, he had let his guard down, instructing two subordinates to take her to the back of the mine and dispose of her.
As a result, she wasn't disposed of. Instead, his two subordinates were killed. And because he had killed the Hong family heir, allowing Hong Tongdao to take control of the Hong family's assets, there was a period of unrest on Xijiang Exile Star. By the time they sent more people to search for Shui Bai, they couldn't find any trace of her.
Zuo Luohuan stood there, her gaze sweeping over the robot dog. Red eyes, a light gun in its hand—it was a Gashro robot dog.
She spoke indifferently, “I was buried in an ore cart for a few days, that's all.” Relying on a hollow blade of grass for air, she had been buried in the ore on a transport cart for two days. Several times, Zuo Luohuan thought she would die there. Finally, the ore was loaded into a starship's cargo hold. After takeoff, she struggled out of the hold and was rescued by the pilot.
“An ore cart?” Zhang Yongzhen seemed to find something hilarious, bending over with laughter, a hint of madness in his demeanor, completely different from the calm and erudite secretary he had appeared to be during the day. “Buried in that kind of ore for several days, and you didn't die? Shui Bai, you're truly tenacious.”
Zuo Luohuan pulled a soft blade from her sleeve, casually twirling it between her fingers. “Are you Gashro?”
Zhang Yongzhen's laughter abruptly stopped. He straightened up and looked at Zuo Luohuan. “Yes. I originally wanted to be friends with you for a few years, but you had to go to Hong Tongdao's study.”
“I couldn't possibly be friends with a Gashro,” Zuo Luohuan said. The soft blade between her fingers suddenly shot towards the robot dog, destroying the barrel of its light gun.
“I was going to give you a quick death,” Zhang Yongzhen said, his face darkening, his pupils becoming vertical slits. He and the robot dog attacked from both sides.
The robot dog's light gun was unusable. A curved blade sprang from its elbow to forearm, slashing at Zuo Luohuan. At the same time, Zhang Yongzhen fired his light gun at her.
Zuo Luohuan dodged the robot dog's blade, grabbed its shoulder, and pulled it in front of her, blocking Zhang Yongzhen's shot. The robot dog's head and limbs twisted 180 degrees as it attacked Zuo Luohuan again. Just as the tip of its blade was about to pierce her eye, Zuo Luohuan struck its abdomen with her knee.
Although the robot dog felt no pain, Zuo Luohuan's force was immense, knocking it back. She grabbed its arm and swung the two-meter-tall robot dog into Zhang Yongzhen, who was charging from behind.
Zhang Yongzhen stumbled back a few steps and immediately fired at Zuo Luohuan. Zuo Luohuan, spotting her soft blade on the ground, retrieved it while dodging the shots.
The robot dog and Zhang Yongzhen attacked together. Zuo Luohuan didn't retreat but charged forward, kicking at Zhang Yongzhen. In mid-air, they exchanged several blows. Zhang Yongzhen dodged her kick, but she was hit in the abdomen. However, her hand grabbed his light gun, twisting it to fire at the robot dog's head, hitting its chip.
Zhang Yongzhen didn't have time to check on the robot dog. He wrestled back his light gun and fired wildly at Zuo Luohuan, only to find her getting closer and closer.
Dodging the barrage, Zuo Luohuan even paused to wipe the blood from her lip, like a demon returned from hell. She appeared before Zhang Yongzhen in a flash. In his vision, he only saw her hand rise slightly, her fingers lightly brushing his neck.
In that instant, Zhang Yongzhen felt no pain, only a chill on his neck.
“You tried to ambush and kill me alone last time, and you dare to come alone again?” Zuo Luohuan said coldly, stepping aside, only a trace of blood on her soft blade.
Hearing her words, Zhang Yongzhen instinctively wanted to retort—he had brought a robot dog and had a light gun—but he couldn't speak. A strange sound came from his throat.
The next second, he saw a spray of red blood in the air.
Just before collapsing, Zhang Yongzhen's brain finally registered—the blood was spraying from his own neck.
Zuo Luohuan looked indifferently at the fallen Zhang Yongzhen. His carotid artery severed, he was drowning in his own blood in less than a minute.
She wiped the blade on his clothes and whispered, “Dying so quickly. Consider it a parting gift from a friend.”
Zuo Luohuan put away the soft blade and pulled a light gun from her waist. Looking down at it, she suddenly recalled Ji Yuezhi giving it to her that afternoon.
This light gun wasn't part of any standard series. Ji Xixiu had the Seventeenth Army's weapons development department design it specifically for Ji Yuezhi for self-defense. It was palm-sized and easy to carry. Ji Yuezhi had pointed this very gun at her on the night of her coming-of-age ceremony, yet today he had lent it to her.
Zuo Luohuan chuckled softly, an unreadable emotion in her eyes, before putting the gun away. If she had used this gun, she wouldn't have had to struggle so much against Zhang Yongzhen and the robot dog. But unless absolutely necessary, Zuo Luohuan wouldn't use it. Anyone with a mind to could trace it back to Ji Yuezhi.
The commotion on the first floor of the research institute wasn't small. Zuo Luohuan didn't stay long, quickly leaving. As she went, she could already see people rushing towards the scene.
Yan Yan had successfully returned home. He sent the recorded files to Ji Yuezhi and hid the paper documents for the time being.
When Zuo Luohuan arrived, the Jiang family was waiting at the back entrance of the hotel. They hid her in a laundry cart, and after Ji Yuezhi called for laundry service, they pushed the cart upstairs and into his room.
Just then, they received a message from Jiang Hong, who was at the pool.
[The research institute has been discovered. The hotel manager received a call and is heading to your room. I don't know why they still suspect you.]
These past few days, Jiang Hong and Luo Shaoyuan had been enjoying themselves in the hotel's public areas. Even if someone suspected them, there was no evidence. But it was different for Ji Yuezhi and Zuo Luohuan.
“Leave after you change the sheets,” Zuo Luohuan told the Jiang family member.
“Yes.”
Both of their optical computers vibrated with a message from Jiang Hong: [They'll be at your room in about a minute. They have a key card. Don't get caught.]
Seeing Zuo Luohuan safe and sound, Ji Yuezhi felt relieved. After the door closed, he quietly looked at her, his iris pheromones suddenly releasing strongly. He pushed her onto the sofa and knelt over her.
Zuo Luohuan didn't resist the push, letting him knock her onto the sofa. As he knelt over her, she reached up to support his waist.
Ji Yuezhi knelt with his legs apart, their faces close. He straightened up, trying not to sit on her thighs.
Sensing the pheromone fluctuations in the air, Zuo Luohuan realized the Omega was nervous. She released her own strong Alpha pheromones, mixing with his to soothe him. The room instantly filled with a heady scent.
“Don't be nervous,” Zuo Luohuan said, gently stroking Ji Yuezhi's waist and pulling him to sit on her lap.
It was the first time Ji Yuezhi had felt such strong Alpha pheromones from Zuo Luohuan outside of a heat cycle. They weren't oppressive at all, but rather comforting. Feeling her palm against his waist, her fingertips gently massaging, he almost instantly went weak, collapsing against her.
After Zuo Luohuan said she would return, Ji Yuezhi had timed his shower and changed into a bathrobe, trying to appear as if they had just finished. But Zuo Luohuan was still in her original clothes.
Ji Yuezhi put his hands on her shoulders, subconsciously reminding her, “Clothes…”
He didn't realize how soft his voice had become.
Zuo Luohuan chuckled, tilting her head up to meet his beautiful, clear eyes, a hint of dominance in her gaze. “Help me take them off.”
Ji Yuezhi pursed his lips. Those people were coming soon, and he wanted to get Zuo Luohuan's clothes off quickly, but his hands trembled. He only managed to remove her jacket, tossing it aside.
Footsteps approached outside the door. There was no time.
Ji Yuezhi wrapped his arms around Zuo Luohuan's neck and kissed her, his warm lips pressing against hers, clumsily nipping and licking.
Just then, a beep sounded from outside. The hotel manager and several guests barged in.
Zuo Luohuan sighed inwardly. She parted his lips, gently sucking on them, one hand pulling up his slipping bathrobe to cover the back of his neck.
“Luohuan…” Ji Yuezhi murmured between their intertwined lips, a slight pant in his voice. He pushed Zuo Luohuan away, trying to look towards the door.
Zuo Luohuan held him down, preventing him from looking, and quickly grabbed a thin blanket from the sofa, covering him completely.
Her Alpha pheromones instantly became terrifying, the pressure immense. Some of the people who had entered couldn't withstand it and fell to their knees, unable to even lift their heads.
Zuo Luohuan carefully bundled Ji Yuezhi up, a dark fury brewing in her expression as she glared at the hotel manager. "How much longer are you going to stand there watching?"
Her tone was light, but the hotel manager was instantly drenched in sweat. He scrambled out with his companions, stammering, “Guests, I apologize! There must have been a system error with the room number.”
Hearing the door close, Zuo Luohuan withdrew her pheromones, loosening her grip slightly. She looked down at Ji Yuezhi. He wasn't in good shape. Surrounded by such strong Alpha pheromones, his exposed skin was flushed, and his beautiful eyes were glazed with moisture.
Zuo Luohuan wiped the dampness from his lips with her thumb, her other hand gently pressing on the scent gland on the back of his neck. “Withdraw your pheromones, be good.”
Ji Yuezhi, feeling unwell, furrowed his brow slightly, withdrew his pheromones, and buried his face in Zuo Luohuan's neck, silent.
They didn't move, just held each other. Zuo Luohuan's thumb continued to massage Ji Yuezhi's scent gland, easing his discomfort, waiting for him to recover.
The Alpha didn't care about her own condition, only focused on comforting the Omega.
Nestled in Zuo Luohuan's arms, Ji Yuezhi suppressed his almost uncontrollable panting. A light sheen of sweat appeared on his forehead, but the furrow in his brow gradually relaxed.
“Feeling better?” Zuo Luohuan whispered in his ear.
“…Mm.” Ji Yuezhi looked up, pushing against Zuo Luohuan's shoulders, trying to get up. But as soon as he stood, he swayed.
Zuo Luohuan stood and helped him to the bed. She brushed the damp hair from his forehead. “I'll be back soon.”
