Invasion - Chapter 110
Chapter 110
Ni Ji eliminated the Minister of Finance, took his ID card, and followed the narrow secret passage downwards.
He was surprised to find that the space inside was much larger than he had imagined, clean, tidy, and beautiful.
This was a huge, hidden space at the top of the White Tower, almost directly below the palace where the Queen resided.
After emerging from the hidden entrance, before him was a long, curved corridor, with pristine white walls, bright lights, and soft music playing, colorful children's rooms filled with toys on both sides.
It looked a bit like a kindergarten.
If it weren’t for Luther's message on that piece of paper, Ni Ji wouldn’t have known that such a secret place was hidden in the upper levels of the White Tower.
Of course, only a place like the top of the tower, used by only a few people, could hide such a large space without being noticed by those coming and going.
It was like a secret base hidden inside the tower. Huge, hidden, secretly nurturing something.
The sentinel's sharp hearing allowed him to hear many subtle sounds of breathing and talking.
Those sounds, their rhythm fast, lively, like children's.
The corridor was circular, with several floors.
Walking deeper, Ni Ji saw some young children living here. These children, all Guides, without exception.
Ni Ji walked very carefully, concealing his presence, suppressing all his emotions and mental fluctuations, not making a single sound.
He had always been a soldier who was good at hiding his mental waves, and after being with Lin Yuan, under her powerful mental power, his abilities in this area had even improved.
But these children seemed exceptionally perceptive, as he got closer, some would look at him with puzzled eyes, searching the place where he was hidden.
This made Ni Ji have to slow down, sometimes stopping, hiding for a while, waiting for the children to relax their vigilance.
Strange.
Why were there so many children being secretly raised at the top of the White Tower, in such a place?
Weren't all the Guides in the country living at the Guide Academy at the bottom of the White Tower?
The environment here wasn't bad, there were flower-filled gardens, beautifully decorated playgrounds, and patient and gentle teachers taking care of the children.
Most of the children's faces were filled with happy, innocent smiles.
Soft music, bright flowers, artificial sunlight, pure white walls, gentle teachers, and happy children.
A place as beautiful as paradise.
Why would such a place be secretly hidden at the top of the White Tower, only accessible with a few Royal Family members’ ID cards?
If Victor's fat head hadn’t already been destroyed, Ni Ji really wanted to go back, crack open his brain, and ask him what was going on.
Among the singing and dancing children, Ni Ji saw a familiar face.
The girl who used to deliver coal briquettes to his building, who later differentiated into a Guide.
That six or seven-year-old girl no longer looked dirty and thin.
Her small face was clean, her hair in two neat braids, she was wearing a beautiful white dress, sitting in a corner, a doll, given to her by a teacher, in her hand.
But unlike other children, she wasn’t happily playing.
Her lightly freckled face was expressionless, she just absentmindedly followed the teacher's instructions, doing the same things as the other children, but her eyes held a maturity and calmness not befitting a child of six or seven.
Even, at a certain moment when Ni Ji looked at her, her eyes clearly looked towards where he was hiding.
Her gaze cold and sharp, containing a power that didn’t match her age.
Ni Ji avoided her gaze, listened for a while, and didn’t hear anything.
That child had clearly seen him, yet she remained silent.
Ni Ji clearly remembered the scene when she was taken away.
At that time, to care for her sick grandfather, the young girl had hidden the fact that she had differentiated into a Guide.
But when she returned home, she discovered that her grandfather had already died in the small, dark house.
Ni Ji had gone into the house to check afterwards, and the old man’s death wasn’t from natural causes, but from someone else’s hand - to make this child willingly go to the White Tower, someone had used the most despicable methods.
He hadn't expected to see this child here.
He hadn’t expected this orphaned girl, after being brought to the White Tower, wasn't sent to the Guide Academy, but hidden here in secret.
The pure White Tower, a symbol of the empire’s purity, yet within this giant tower, how many unknown secrets were hidden?
Ni Ji walked forward, deeper into the center of this area.
Luther had drawn the path here on the note, and told him that this was the only place the Queen cared about.
Only if this place was invaded, would Her Majesty leave the palace.
The lively academy was quiet in its depths, a circular structure surrounding a hollow atrium.
Here, the world was devoid of all color, only white remained.
The walls, the pillars, the floor, everything smooth as jade, pure and spotless.
A strange sense of holiness.
Ni Ji, choosing a secluded spot, drew the black saber he carried with him.
To conceal his identity, Ni Ji had left behind his conspicuous red demon blade and chosen this black blade from the shelves inside the house.
The blade was straight, its edge frosty, looking like an ordinary, sharp, cold weapon.
But when Ni Ji plunged it into the ground, several lifelike eyes opened on the dark blade.
Those eyes blinked, moving back and forth on the blade, and made strange sounds.
{Hey, are you sure you want to do this?}
Ni Ji glanced at it, a silent affirmation.
{That woman is terrifying. I also don’t want to face her.}
"What reward do you want?" Ni Ji asked calmly.
Having obtained these strange weapons from contaminated zones for so many years, Ni Ji knew very well their different personalities.
The red demon blade only wanted his blood, and as long as he was alive, his blood could be given at any time, it was the easiest to satisfy, while this black saber was the most troublesome, Ni Ji was very reluctant to use it unless necessary.
{Hee hee, then I want to see the orca French kiss for three minutes.}
The veins on Ni Ji's forehead bulged, he gritted his teeth, "Something else."
{Then fine, I want to see you tied up by the Kraken, I haven’t really seen her yet, those red tentacles must be incredibly alluring.}
The characteristic of the black blade was eyes, and its hobby was watching strange and grotesque scenes that pleased it.
Ni Ji almost sheathed his blade.
{Relax, relax, you’re still so young, why so easily angered and embarrassed? Don’t you also very much like this?} The eyes on the black blade blinked, muttering their complaints.
{Consider it a debt you owe me, when we go back, I'll properly think about what I want as a reward.}
…
After the explosion, inside the palace, Her Majesty sat on her throne, as calm as usual, not at all concerned about such a minor disturbance.
Leisurely waiting for Luther to bring her news.
Until, at a certain moment, as if suddenly sensing something, she abruptly stood up.
She left Lin Yuan and the sentinel guards in the main hall, and, alone, her white dress trailing behind her, walked down the long steps.
"Her Majesty actually left the palace?"
"I’ve never heard of such a thing."
After the Queen left, the blank faces of the sentinels in the hall seemed to regain some human-like expressions, a few quietly glancing towards the cage in the corner, with a hint of pity in their eyes, whispering very softly,
"Ji Xuan…"
"Vice-captain Ji is actually a rebel?"
"Indeed, unbelievable."
"Shh, don't talk about this, let's keep our heads."
Lin Yuan heard the name Ji Xuan.
She didn’t know this vice-captain, but she had heard Ni Ji mention this name several times.
"Vice-captain Ji and I saw something about your parents.”
"You have to be careful. Ji Xuan told me that Her Majesty is very dangerous.”
"Ji Xuan got me a bonus, I’ll bring you some candy.”
So it was him.
He was the rebel, the traitor.
This explosion below, all this commotion, it was probably his companions, here for him.
Lin Yuan walked towards the corner where Ji Xuan was imprisoned.
The sentinels guarding the main hall smiled and greeted her, knowing she was favored by the Queen, they all affectionately called her "Guide Lin".
"Her Majesty taught me something. I want to give it a try," Lin Yuan said.
The young, beautiful Guide, with her fair, delicate face, her slender arms, her gentle voice, looked completely harmless.
No one would be wary of her.
The sentinels all smiled at her.
A golden light flickered in the depths of the petite Guide's eyes, she extended her fair finger and snapped it.
The sentinels looked confused at first, then their expressions gradually turned blank.
Lin Yuan’s white finger moved, and they, following the direction of her finger, turned around, leaving the area around the cage, walking numbly towards the other side of the hall.
Invading the sentinels’ mindscapes wouldn’t normally be this easy.
But in the current world, perhaps other than those few sentinels who often worked with Lin Yuan, most sentinels were completely unguarded when facing a Guide.
They didn't have the awareness to resist a Guide’s mental invasion, they still saw guides as those gentle, harmless beings with no attack capabilities.
The sentinels in the hall were easily influenced by Lin Yuan. They left the cage they were supposed to be guarding, leaving Lin Yuan alone.
Lin Yuan, having led the guards away, looked down at the dark cage before her.
The metal cage was cold and dark, the tortured prisoner inside weakly lying in his own blood and sweat, gasping.
He looked like he was about to die, his mindscape collapsing, his entire being entering a berserking state.
The reason Her Majesty had left without any concern, was probably because she knew that even if his companions came to rescue him, regardless of the cost, it would be futile.
Ji Xuan in the cage had his eyes wide open, his gaze empty, staring at the top of the cage, his broken glasses still on his bruised nose, tears uncontrollably streaming down his face, faint moans from his throat.
No matter how outstanding a person he had once been, he had now been completely destroyed.
Lin Yuan even knew how it had been done, mental power invading the mind, tearing apart and crushing a person’s soul.
Cruel and repeated abuse, until they were no longer human, lost all control, completely falling into the abyss of becoming a beast.
"Hey," Lin Yuan crouched down and called out to him, "Can you still hear me?”
Lin Yuan reached into the cage, tentatively sending a bit of her mental power into his mindscape.
His mindscape had been completely destroyed, barely able to react.
Sometimes it was like this, in the face of absolute power, all resistance and struggle seemed pointless, even the strongest person was the same.
In the muddy cage, only a pair of broken butterfly wings still fluttered weakly, seemingly unwilling to give up.
After a while, amid the flapping of butterfly wings, and Lin Yuan’s soothing mental power, Ji Xuan seemed to gather a bit of his will, his eyes slightly moving, looking at Lin Yuan outside the cage.
He struggled to open his mouth several times, finally letting out an incredibly hoarse voice,
"Could… could you just kill me? I don’t want to experience that again.”
Lin Yuan also felt that it would be best if he died at this moment.
Many times, when nothing could be done, making a rational decision was the right thing to do.
That’s why she had rationally left Ni Ji behind, going with Teng Lu. She would seriously consider eating that little monster’s flesh when he pleaded with her.
Perhaps helping him find release really was the best choice right now. Lin Yuan thought, at least she had a way to make him lose consciousness without feeling pain.
She extended her hand into the dark cage, towards the sentinel’s face, about to press down, when she felt a weight in her heart, heavily weighing her down.
The broken butterfly wings on the ground fluttered violently.
“Don’t give up, help my brother.”
A voice suddenly rang clearly in her mind.
“Help him.”
“Please.”
It was a mental fluctuation unique to Guides.
Other than her, where would there be another Guide in this place? Lin Yuan blankly looked around.
Thanks for the chapters so far! I really look forward to the updates every day.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised Ji Xuan seems salvageable, I thought he was about to traumatize a few more people as he dies.
The room with the kids, it seems like the Queen takes the strong ones and... Probably turns them into contaminated zone pillars? Seemed like that was what she was hoping for when she sent Lin Yuan into the eyeless zone. Maybe she eats some of them too, that's probably why her mental body seems like a frankenstein of body parts.
Also, it's a wonder how Lin Yuan didn't grow up in that room instead of at the academy.
Woww Yk ur prob onto smth. Damn that’s crazy to think abt
DeleteThose poor kids
