Invasion - Chapter 109

Chapter 109

Chapter 109

"I’ve heard about you," the Queen on the throne summoned Lin Yuan to her side, "Child, there’s no need to be too gentle with those sentinels."

Lin Yuan shifted her attention from the corner. "Too gentle with sentinels?"

The Queen would often guide her on combat techniques as a Guide these days.

But Lin Yuan didn’t quite understand what she meant. Weren't sentinels Guides' partners and friends on the battlefield? Wasn’t it right to be gentle with friends?

"They’re just fragile creatures; there's no need to waste too much energy on them," the pale Queen said, her voice soft, like an elder kindly instructing a younger generation.

She stood up and walked down the long corridor with Lin Yuan.

The two strolled through the white stone pillars covered in murals, all the way to the dark corner, to the giant cage.

"Actually, making them submit is very easy."

Several sentinels in the hall strode over, knelt on one knee before the Queen, and pulled open the curtain covering the iron cage.

A half-mutated sentinel was lying in the damp, dark cage.

His form was grotesque.

A pair of broken blue butterfly wings on his back, his head and arms those of an adult male, but from the waist down, it was a bulging insect’s abdomen, glowing faintly in the darkness like a firefly.

Half-human, half-beast, low, pained groans coming from his throat, he was already on the verge of berserking.

Lying in the dark cage, having been tortured, disheveled, his broken glasses still on his nose.

He was a very handsome sentinel, and very strong, the torture hadn't dulled his sharp aura, when the curtain was opened, he struggled, grabbing the bars, his eyes, in the darkness, filled with bone-deep hatred, staring out from the cage.

The Queen reached out and took Lin Yuan's hand.

That hand had once felt warm and soft to Lin Yuan.

Now, as if its disguise had been removed, it was cold and damp, its skin sticky.

As the Queen held Lin Yuan’s hand, Lin Yuan clearly felt a cold force, spreading like frost in the hall, towards the imprisoned sentinel.

The enraged sentinel immediately collapsed.

Lin Yuan detected a strange sensation.

In that dark cage, like grass dampened by dew, a cat scratching in the night, butterflies entangled together.

That sentinel, his fangs and claws removed, collapsed on the ground, turning into a puddle of water, a burning ember.

At first, he still tried to control himself, but soon began struggling, disregarding his appearance.

Sweat soaked the floor. His body like a fish out of water, struggling to open his mouth, gasping, but unable to make a sound.

The fluorescent light from his lower insect abdomen brightened, rhythmically flickering in the darkness.

Although Lin Yuan hadn't seen it before, she knew. This was a sentinel's bonding heat being induced.

This was a state only induced during the most intimate moments between Sentinels and Guides, after they bonded, becoming soulmates.

The Queen had only gently tapped her fingers, and just like that, in this hall, she made the powerful sentinel submit.

While inducing his bonding heat, she also corroded his strength, making him powerless to resist, he could only lie there on the ground, sweat soaking his clothes, letting out soft, low, pained sounds.

Around the hall, several armed guards stood tall, their expressions indifferent.

They coldly watched their former colleague, their comrade, struggling in pain on the ground.

The palace at the top of the tower had always been deserted, only the Queen residing here.

Now, perhaps to guard this prisoner, a few armed sentinels had been deployed.

The sentinels stood calmly, watching the writhing figure in the cage, not a single trace of emotion on their cold faces.

Lin Yuan pulled her hand away.

The hand holding hers had only felt cold before, now it made her incredibly uncomfortable.

The food in her stomach churned, and she felt like throwing up.

"What’s wrong? Can't bear to watch?" the pale Queen looked at her, her face hidden behind the veil, her features unclear.

It was as if there were countless eyes behind that thin veil.

Cold eyes from the distant void, staring intently at Lin Yuan.

As if a thousand weights pressed down on Lin Yuan’s shoulders, demanding that she be more docile, that she kneel down, that she watch this cruel and humiliating scene, and be entertained by it.

Lin Yuan always felt that the Queen's attitude towards her was strange.

She couldn’t sense any malice from the Queen, Her Majesty’s fondness towards her was even sincere.

But that fondness always made Lin Yuan shudder, her hair stand on end, as if the Queen would happily devour her alive at any moment.

Lin Yuan gritted her teeth and looked at the cold Queen beside her.

The juvenile Kraken in the vast mental sea saw a grotesque and enormous being.

It stayed far away, its form hazy, with many, many eyes, countless arms, and all sorts of strange limbs, like a monster pieced together from countless lives.

Incredibly large and grotesque, its powerful mental fluctuations spread like a solution that could corrode everything, pollute the world.

"You’re still young, you don't understand the pleasure of this," the Queen said with a gentle sigh, magnanimously waving her hand, loosening her control.

The sentinel in the iron cage instantly went limp from his pained whimpers, collapsing completely in the cold and damp cage, his body slightly twitching, his eyes unfocused, tears and saliva uncontrollably flowing, no longer with the sharp, hateful look from just now.

"Child, the strong controlling the weak, this is the natural law of the world," the Queen's voice was very soft, coming from the darkness, subtly and silently corrupting people's hearts.

"You’re just still too young, you’ll understand all of this sooner or later."

Lin Yuan seriously thought about these words.

She was gradually realizing that she held great power, that most of the Guides and Sentinels in the world might not be a match for her.

She should also be able to, like Her Majesty, easily get many things, control many people.

With a wave of her hand, a forceful invasion, she could make strong people submit, control their joys and sorrows.

She could easily gain their adoration, their fear, and their passionate love.

It wasn’t very difficult, incredibly tempting.

Many familiar faces flashed through Lin Yuan’s mind: Xiao Niao, Rachel, Guo Suo, Xun Hua, Nicole, Yun Luo…

She thought about how she had, bit by bit, formed a mental connection with these lovely people.

How she had slowly transformed from a lonely monster into someone with so many friends.

That process had been very slow, very difficult, not easy, it required putting in her heart.

Finally, she thought of that fish.

That whale, swimming in the deep sea, its huge body, shaking its head and tail.

He had carefully, tentatively, slowly opened that beautiful and mysterious underwater world to her, slowly, trying his best to approach her. It was only after experiencing so much, spending so much time together, that the two could become so close, so trusting.

The Queen’s mental pollution had been silent and imperceptible. But a light had been lit on the surface of that turbulent sea, its brightness cutting through the thick fog.

Lin Yuan had found her true self.

The light shone in the thick darkness. The resolve in Lin Yuan’s heart became firm at that moment.

All the decay and filth, the grotesqueness and strangeness around her, even if as strong as a towering wave, could no longer corrupt or shake her, could no longer make her afraid.

Lin Yuan, looking at the pale and indifferent Queen, at this moment, felt that she wasn’t as powerful or invincible as she seemed.

She could even sense the Queen’s slightly disappointed sigh.

Just at this time, a slight tremor came from the White Tower.

Like a violent explosion, the strong impact shaking the seemingly unshakeable White Tower.

Even here in the palace at the top of the tower, she could feel the slight trembling caused by the explosion.

Everyone in the White Tower, at that moment, looked confused and surprised.

An attack, this had never happened before.

The White Tower, enormous, sturdy, towering into the clouds, protected by the holy light, a symbol of the empire, something unshakeable in everyone's heart.

Not only was security inside the White Tower incredibly tight, with the elites of the Royal Guard stationed there, equipped with the most high-tech security systems, there was also the protection of the holy light.

Since the White Tower appeared in human history, no one had ever invaded it, no one had ever defiled this sacred place protected by the holy light.

The Queen, in mid-sentence, abruptly turned her head, her cold gaze piercing through the veil, looking downwards.

Her icy eyes were like winter frost, seemingly able to see through the layers of space, all the way to the bottom of the White Tower.

At the bottom of the White Tower, thick smoke from the explosion spread, and sharp alarms rang.

The two girls who caused the explosion, amidst the rising heat and smoke, moved quickly through the flames, making a hand gesture to each other, their heads lowered.

"Retreat immediately."

Their movements were swift, they were powerful sentinels, like two swallows darting across a cold pool, moving through the smoke and the roar of the explosion.

Before the guards could even react, they, under the cover of the smoke and explosion, were already escaping along the pre-planned route.

Using the smoke as cover, they rushed out of the White Tower. The bright, sunny world outside was just a step away, and one of the girls even made a "success" gesture towards her companion.

The next moment, an icy consciousness, like an avalanche, descended from the top of the tower, instantly capturing her.

The girl opened her mouth, took two difficult steps, then froze on the spot, right at the boundary between light and shadow.

Her companion, seeing this, immediately took out a syringe and injected herself without hesitation.

In the next second, a strong fluorescent light, unique to sentinels, appeared in her eyes. She grabbed her incapacitated companion and accelerated towards the exit, running like lightning, relentlessly, under the influence of the drug, all her emotions shielded, even the powerful, avalanche-like consciousness couldn’t capture her.

A vehicle approached from afar, and the two sentinels, who had detonated the explosives at the bottom of the White Tower, jumped in, speeding away from the capital.

"Detonation mission complete. Avenger, be careful," the escaping sentinel sent a message to a hidden personal terminal.

From top to bottom, the White Tower was in chaos amidst the roar of the explosions.

From the Guide Academy and the Sentinel barracks on the lower levels, to the scientific research institute, the agricultural base, and even the offices of high-ranking officials at the top, everyone was shocked, asking each other what had happened.

Royal Guards hurried past.

Minister of Finance, Victor, uneasily stood up from his soft and luxurious seat.

"What's going on? Why are there tremors? What happened?" He asked, a little bewildered.

He called out a few times, but the sentinels outside seemed to have all run away, no one answered.

His office was in the best location, quiet and private, incredibly spacious, its luxurious decorations fully displaying his noble status.

Too much incense had been burned in the room. Victor, his body weak, couldn't stand steadily.

Just then, a tall figure, his back to the light, entered this incense-filled office.

Victor squinted and realized it was a sentinel he knew.

A member of the Royal Guard, his name seemed to be Ni Ji.

"It seems there was an attack by thugs, nothing major, Commander Luther is already handling it," the sentinel said as he slowly walked in, casually closing the heavy door inlaid with gold and gemstones.

The sentinel's voice was gentle, reassuring, he walked forward. In the swirling smoke, a handsome face appeared.

The dim light cast sharp shadows on his nose and brow bone, making half his face seem to be in light, the other half in darkness, a sharp, distinct kind of beauty.

Like an unsheathed blade, bright and dazzling, something they, these nobles lost in alcohol, spices, and lust, would never possess.

Victor liked shiny things, even more, he liked to taint beautiful things, so, he smiled, waving for the sentinel to come closer, "It’s good that Luther’s handling it, you… come here."

The sentinel was very docile, just like the way all those lowly people acted in front of him, his smile very good-looking.

The next moment, a white light flashed before his eyes.

Victor, in disbelief, looked at his hand.

That hand, which had casually controlled countless lives, appeared in his vision, dripping with blood.

That fat hand, covered in jewels, fell onto the luxurious carpet, together with his head.

His eyes wide open, he didn't understand how he could meet such an end, he was clearly a superior, a noble of the highest rank.

Ni Ji kicked the bloody head aside, and moved the heavy, gold-inlaid chair.

Beneath the chair, a deep hole appeared.

He flicked the blood from his black blade and walked down into the sloping tunnel.

Above the White Tower, near the palace, beneath the desks of the empire's important ministers, such hidden passages, who knew what they hid…

In the palace, Her Majesty the Queen on the throne looked away, as if sensing something. A rare, cold smile appeared on her thin lips.

"Ah, how interesting, an ant has actually crawled in," she turned to Lin Yuan, "It seems I have to go down there myself. Will you wait here for me?"
