S-Class Dungeon’s Mistress - Chapter 182
Chapter 182
"Wow, I can't believe you actually made it this far?"
A bouncy voice rang in her ears, and Adelaide instinctively twisted her face in disgust.
Hair similar in color to Cereza's, large round eyes, and lips curved in a cheerful smile. Objectively, it was a face that would be considered charming, but to her, it was nothing but unpleasant.
"I thought you'd died, carelessly trying to obtain Helheim without knowing your place. Did you hide like a little rat somewhere else?"
Ellie. Adelaide muttered her name and recalled their first encounter. How could she have thought this face was cute back then? She hadn't recognized the ugly heart hidden behind that pretty exterior. Remembering her bright smile while confessing at the café made her stomach churn with revulsion.
From the way she was speaking, it seemed she had revealed Helheim's entrance in the sky specifically because she wanted Adelaide to die. Well, a demon like her couldn't possibly have helped her out of pure goodwill.
"Both those running wild outside and this one here... You've hidden quite a few interesting cards, haven't you?"
Irritation rose at her sarcastic tone, but Adelaide deliberately didn't respond. She had no desire to engage in any further conversation with Ellie.
She rolled her eyes to scan the surroundings. Behind Ellie, dozens of demons were spread out. They seemed stronger than the demons she had encountered so far, likely because they were protecting Uriel's true nature.
How strange to have so many high-ranking demons in a single dungeon. Adelaide clicked her tongue in surprise. During her time living in East-Belial, Maximilian had been almost the only high-ranking demon she'd encountered, but lately, they had become so commonplace.
She fixed her gaze back on Ellie. Her leisurely stance before the high-ranking demons confirmed her suspicion that she was more than just a mere subordinate.
'It's so ambiguous. Her demonic energy seems too weak to be a high-ranking demon. But her skills so far are far from ordinary.'
Her identity was still unclear. Even Lisianthus seemed unable to confirm what she was, which clearly indicated she wasn't a typical demon.
When Adelaide looked Ellie up and down, Ellie let out a scornful chuckle. Then, with an affected tilt of her head, she continued speaking.
"Oh, so that's how you could casually discard Caladium? Talking about how he's a good demon and all, and then immediately throwing him away once he became useless?"
Snap. It was as if something had been severed. Specifically, Adelaide's reason.
Whoosh!
Enormous demonic energy burst forth from Adelaide. It was her power manifesting her desire to completely obliterate all the demons before her eyes.
An overwhelming energy spread quickly in all directions, suffocating in its intensity. As the dense demonic energy swept over the demons, those who had been standing arrogantly began to collapse one after another.
"Ugh!"
"Gasp...!"
Thud, crash. Sounds of knees and foreheads hitting the ground followed. Some demons even exploded under the pressure of her demonic energy.
The high-ranking demons looked utterly shocked. The fact that they were brought down by the energy of a mere succubus was humiliating. They tried to rise quickly, but to no avail. They couldn't even breathe properly.
Just as Ellie was about to step back in surprise—
Swish!
A pitch-black blade cleanly sliced through her slender neck. Her smiling face was effortlessly separated and fell to the ground. Adelaide stood where Ellie had been, her pink eyes burning with ferocity.
Thud, roll. The neatly severed head tumbled across the floor, soon followed by the woman's body slowly collapsing.
"I warned you," Adelaide said, carelessly wiping the blood from her face.
"Never insult Caladium with your filthy mouth again."
Her brazen words were infuriating. Ellie was the very person who had betrayed Caladium and condemned him to over a hundred years of suffering. How dare she even mention his name?
Adelaide exhaled irritably and turned her head. And then she noticed that all the enemies who had been kneeling moments ago had disappeared.
'I felt a familiar energy just now.'
To be precise, bright red spheres were scattered across the floor. These were what had been demons just moments ago. The high-ranking demons, who had been making such a fuss, had been compressed into small balls in mere seconds. The brief cracking sound was likely bones breaking.
The culprit was obvious.
"Didn't you say you were saving your strength in case Abaddon arrives?"
"Hmm. I did it without even realizing."
"How dare they glare at the master," Lisianthus added nonchalantly with a light smile. Seeing his beautiful face somewhat calmed her agitated mind.
"In any case, something is definitely strange about this woman."
"Yes, I felt it too."
The demons of Greenville hiding behind Lisianthus tilted their heads, unable to understand what they were talking about. Adelaide kicked Ellie's corpse lightly and elaborated.
"She died too easily. Though I didn't think she was stronger than me, she shouldn't have died so instantly."
"The energy from the corpse is strange too. It's like it's still alive..."
Lisianthus's eyebrows twitched dramatically. He had finally realized the source of the peculiarity. Though he was late in recognizing a phenomenon he hadn't witnessed in a long time, he was now certain.
The ability to transform into a completely different demon, demonic energy that remained even after death—all of this pointed to one specific power.
"Adelaide, come here."
He quickly reached out, wrapping his arm around her waist. Lightly lifting Adelaide, he took a step back.
Simultaneously, something strange happened.
Squeak, twist. With a bizarre sound, Ellie's dead body began to writhe unnaturally. Even the head lying on the floor started moving without anyone touching it.
"Kyaaah! G-Ghost!"
Julliard screamed. Raham, pale-faced, grabbed Pia and stepped back. Cereza, as always, remained expressionless.
Adelaide was just as shocked as Julliard but didn't show it. She suppressed her urge to scream hysterically. She didn't want to appear weak right now.
Lisianthus gently stroked her arm, soothing her fears. The whisper in her ear was as sweet as cotton candy.
Soon, Ellie's body slowly moved, picking up her own head and bringing it back to her neck. The grotesque scene made Julliard almost foam at the mouth.
"Oh my, how cruel. Treating a weak demon like me this way."
A bright smile spread across her blood-stained face. Adelaide bit her lip to suppress another scream.
"Isn't this against the rules? Doesn't the Greenville Dungeon protect the weak?"
"I never said that. I don't unconditionally protect the weak. I simply, absolutely, hate evil ones."
Thanks to the tension in her voice, it didn't tremble. However, she was still frightened and gripped Lisianthus's arm tightly.
"Evil ones? Isn't that too vague? Who exactly defines what is evil?"
"Who else but me? Of course, one decides for themselves who they like and dislike."
Don't try to complicate things with difficult words, Adelaide thought, letting out a cold laugh. Her cold gaze fixed on Ellie—or more precisely, whoever was controlling Ellie's corpse from behind.
"You, Uriel, who desecrates corpses like this, are undoubtedly an evil one without needing further consideration."
After hearing Lisianthus's whisper, she now saw it clearly. The demon before her eyes was not alive.
Ellie was dead. Not from her recent attack, but had been dead for a long time. Perhaps for decades.
Some consciousness seemed to remain, but it wasn't entirely her own. It appeared to be an alternating mix of Ellie's dead self and Uriel's consciousness.
Ellie laughed, stretching her lips to their limit, looking utterly delighted. Then her pale skin began to rot at an incredibly fast pace. A horrific stench spread, making Adelaide furrow her brow.
Soon, only hair and bones remained, falling to the ground with a thud.
"Disgusting," she muttered, shuddering. Even Shawarma would seem ordinary in comparison.
Tap, tap. Footsteps from a high-heeled shoe grew closer. A white-haired woman emerged from the dark, revealing a face with a cheerful smile, just like Ellie's.
"A Necromancer. Estimated to be S-class, and unlike the known high-ranking demon, Uriel herself seems to be closer to a top-tier demon in capability."
Necromancer—a term referring to the wielder of the power 'Necromancy', which resurrects and controls corpses. Necromancy isn't typically considered an extremely powerful ability, but an S-class would be different. The level of demons they could resurrect would change dramatically.
There was even a joke that an S-class Necromancer could resurrect a demon king. Of course, it was an exaggeration, but it was certain one couldn't be careless.
"Thanks for the introduction, handsome manager."
Uriel smiled and lightly snapped her fingers. The demons killed by Lisianthus's power began to resurrect one by one. Their compressed bodies straightened, quickly returning to their original form. However, their eyes were unfocused, their mouths hanging open—faces devoid of soul.
The corpses were truly alive! Adelaide's eyelashes trembled again in fear. Having witnessed Necromancy directly for the first time, goosebumps rose on her skin.
"If I'd known you were such a talented individual, I would have recruited you at that meeting. To be honest, I was already struggling with your appearance back then. Any chance you might change your mind now?"
But as Uriel spoke, fear vanished, replaced by a new emotion.
How dare she eye my man.
Adelaide raised her head, consumed by rage.
