The First Pope - Chapter 130
Chapter 130
Expelling the Magic Dragons, reclaiming their territory, and then taking revenge on the Sethite wizards—everything the witches wanted to do had been accomplished with the Blood Demon's help. These were tasks they might have died trying to achieve, yet for the Blood Demon, it was as simple as lifting a hand.
The Blood Demon was mysterious and powerful, with intricate ties to the Temple of Darkness. Had it been the witches of the past, they would have certainly been wary of such an existence. Even with her help in their revenge, their vigilance would not have lessened one bit. But now... under Elder Kana's persuasion, the witches had come to trust the Blood Demon implicitly.
The speed of this trust felt unreal.
Since the age of the gods, the Capri Plains had been the territory of the witches. They practiced witchcraft, but they were ultimately a branch of the human race. As such, many human villages and towns were situated around the Capri Plains, and the two sides interacted freely.
After the gods left and the Sitatul Continent collapsed, these villages and towns were almost completely destroyed. Humans either went into hiding or were captured by the Vampires. Just outside the Capri Plains were numerous cities the Vampires used to imprison their blood slaves.
After reclaiming their territory with the Blood Demon's help, the witches did not begin rebuilding their homes. Instead, they started clearing out the Vampire-occupied cities around the Capri Plains, rescuing the imprisoned humans.
Batch after batch of rescued humans were escorted back to the Capri Plains by the witches. But for these humans, it wasn't a rescue; it was merely being moved from one prison to another.
The desolate Capri Plains had become "lively." Betty, who had been shut in her room day and night performing divinations, was unaware of this. When she pushed open her door and saw groups of humans being escorted past, she froze, her brow slowly furrowing.
Camille, who was squatting by the door playing with a skeletal rat, heard the door open. She turned her head and called out happily, "Sister Betty, you're finally out!"
Betty's gaze followed the escorted humans. After a moment of silence, she asked in a low voice, "What are they doing?"
Camille glanced in the direction of Betty's gaze and replied, "You mean these humans? That Lord Dark God told us to do this."
She scratched her hair and complained, "I don't know what she wants to do. Rescuing these humans is so much trouble."
Although the dark magic incantations from the Blood Demon had greatly increased the witches' power, they still had to rely on skeletons for transportation. A round trip to a more distant city wasted a lot of time.
And most importantly, if they kept "rescuing" people like this, the Capri Plains would run out of space. She had no desire to live in the same territory as humans.
The Vampires only liked to keep young blood slaves. Among the rescued humans, the elderly were few; most were teenagers. Due to hunger and illness, they looked thin and haggard, their eyes devoid of spirit.
The humans living in the Slade Sea Region weren't like this. Betty had seen the light in their eyes. It shouldn't be like this... She stared at the procession for a while, then lowered her gaze slightly, her hands behind her back unconsciously clenching into fists.
Camille observed Betty's expression, then cautiously approached her, tentatively reaching for her sleeve. "Sister Betty, let me take you somewhere fun."
Before her fingers could touch Betty's sleeve, Betty sidestepped to avoid her. She raised her hand to pull up her hood and said expressionlessly, "I have something to do. Don't follow me." With that, she strode away.
Camille stomped her foot in frustration, her eyes filled with disappointment as she watched Betty's retreating back.
Inside the Temple of Darkness, the Blood Demon floated before the statue of the God of Darkness, holding a stack of parchments and waiting with an air of boredom. Her figure flickered between solid and ethereal, her aura fluctuating in strength, and the crimson mist surrounding her looked much dimmer than before.
She floated in mid-air for an unknown amount of time before Elder Kana, dressed in a black robe, hurried in from outside. Under the Blood Demon's deliberate guidance, the Temple of Darkness appeared pitch-black in Kana's eyes, with only the statue of the God of Darkness in the center emitting a faint glow, capturing all her attention.
"Lord Dark God." Elder Kana bowed slightly toward the statue, her tone reverent. In just a few days, she seemed like a completely different person.
The Blood Demon circled Kana a few times, very pleased with her masterpiece. "The spells I gave you last time, have you been supervising their practice?"
The Blood Demon handed the parchments to Kana, her low laugh bewitching. "This is the most powerful dark magic passed down from the age of the gods. Once you learn it, you will be able to summon my war generals."
"With me here, no one will be able to bully you again."
Kana took the parchments and looked up at the statue, her eyes showing a hint of confusion but mostly reverence.
A gray shadow appeared silently behind Kana. She reached out, pulled out a piece of parchment, and glanced down at it. It was covered in densely written incantations, the blood-red script looking exceptionally eerie.
"You're writing spells with your divine consciousness..." Wolf Fang glanced up at the Blood Demon, a flicker of understanding in her heart. She said coldly, "So this was your plan all along, spending all your time with these witches."
She tossed the parchment aside and struck a merciless blow. "You think you can rely on a few witches to break the seal left by the Main God?"
"You must be dreaming."
"We've been trapped in this temple for a thousand years, and we still haven't completed the array to break the seal, have we?"
"If we can't do it, what could these witches possibly know?"
The Blood Demon rushed in front of Wolf Fang. Surprisingly, she wasn't angry. Instead, she explained patiently, "If we can't get our bodies back, our divine consciousness will eventually dissipate. But if we place our consciousness into the bloodlines of these witches, it can be passed down forever."
"Look how obedient this witch is." The Blood Demon reached out to touch Kana's shoulder, then turned to persuade Wolf Fang. "Do you want to give it a try? I even saved a family specifically for you."
They had been together for tens of thousands of years; Wolf Fang saw through the Blood Demon's intentions at a glance. She snorted coldly, "I'm not interested."
She raised her hand slightly, and a gray whirlwind tossed both the Blood Demon and Kana outside the temple.
Outside the temple, the Blood Demon stomped her feet in anger, her usual irascible temper returning. "Damn it, damn it."
In order to integrate her divine consciousness into the bloodline of the Garcia witches, all the spells she gave to Elder Kana had been written with her own consciousness. This had consumed a massive amount of it, causing her power to decline significantly.
As fellow war generals serving the God of Darkness, she couldn't stand being weaker than Wolf Fang. Having expended so much of her divine consciousness, she wanted Wolf Fang to do the same. Unfortunately, Wolf Fang didn't fall for it.
Kana was completely unaware of the exchange between Wolf Fang and the Blood Demon. Being thrown out of the Temple of Darkness, she merely assumed the "God of Darkness" had sent her out. She clutched the parchments in her hand and was about to turn and leave when, suddenly, a shower of golden meteors appeared in the overcast sky—beautiful, spectacular, but also terrifying.
Kana's expression changed, and she immediately drew her bone staff and began chanting an incantation.
The still-fuming Blood Demon looked up and said in surprise, "The Power of Light?"
Wolf Fang also emerged from the Temple of Darkness. Staring at the golden meteors filling the sky, she wondered aloud, "There's someone on the Sitatul Continent who can use Light Magic?"
She and the Blood Demon exchanged a look. The Blood Demon thought for a moment and said, "Come to think of it, I sensed the Power of Light when I was leading the witches to get their revenge." It was just that she couldn't stay outside for long, and at the time, she was preoccupied with how to use the witches, so she hadn't gone to investigate.
When the Goddess of Light left, she didn't leave behind any legacy of Light Magic. It should have vanished from this continent. Wolf Fang looked up again at the seemingly endless shower of golden meteors, briefly sensed the direction the Power of Light was coming from, and her figure quickly disappeared.
With quick reflexes, the Blood Demon grabbed Kana and chased after Wolf Fang.
The golden meteors appeared in the sky above the Capri Plains like brilliant fireworks, but the witches were in no mood to appreciate them. They dropped what they were doing and gathered together. A black barrier of light suddenly appeared, blocking the descending golden meteors. The Power of Light and the Power of Darkness collided, creating a tremendous noise.
More golden meteors rained down from the sky, shattering one black barrier after another. The two sides were locked in a stalemate for an unknown amount of time before a group of God Race members, dressed in pure white robes and holding staffs, appeared in the witches' field of vision, treading on golden light. The surrounding ruins did nothing to diminish their sanctity and nobility; their silver hair was even more dazzling than the golden light.
The God Race had grown stronger again. Standing alone in a corner, Betty raised a hand and pulled down her hood. Her eyes stared fixedly in the direction of the golden light, searching quickly. When she didn't see that familiar figure, she didn't know whether to feel disappointed or relieved.
Darcy led her people to a stop several dozen meters from the witches. She stroked the staff in her hand, her cool gaze sweeping over the witches before she frowned and said, "Where is Kana? Tell her to come out."
"Isn't this our ally?" an Anderson witch stepped forward, deliberately scanning the God Race contingent and feigning surprise. "You're still alive?"
"Those Sethite wizards are truly useless."
Darcy's face darkened. She tapped her staff, and a Grand Light Spell she had prepared long ago shot forward. As the surging golden light was about to hit the witch, it was swallowed by a cloud of black mist. The Anderson witch flicked her bone staff, a smirk on her lips as she taunted, "It's been a while. How has the God Race become so weak?"
"The dark energy on them is so strong," Doris whispered to Darcy. "It's just as Cynthia said. They've obtained dark magic incantations from somewhere else."
Darcy's gaze lingered on the witches at the forefront for a few moments. Then, she gave a signal to her people behind her and was the first to raise her staff.
Light and darkness clashed once more, and the very ground began to shake violently. By the time Wolf Fang and the Blood Demon arrived, the God Race and the witches were locked in a fierce battle. The two of them floated in mid-air, curiously observing the God Race below.
If they had only seen one or two people with silver hair and golden eyes, they might not have recalled anything. But now, seeing a whole group of them using Light Magic, Wolf Fang quickly recognized their identity. "Aren't these the flawed products abandoned by the Goddess of Light?"
"Who taught them to use Light Magic?"
And after so many years of procreation, they had actually become a new race instead of being absorbed into humanity.
"I hate the aura of light," the Blood Demon said, her tone laced with disgust. "Once I break the seal, I'll kill them all."
The Sitatul Continent under her control would have no need for such a disgusting race.
While the God Race and the witches were locked in a stalemate, Cynthia, Olivia, and the Morgan witches were in a forest outside the Capri Plains, standing on a high trestle bridge and observing the situation.
"The Garcia and Anderson families have indeed grown stronger." Cynthia tapped her fingers on the vine railing, saying thoughtfully, "They must have entered the Temple of Darkness."
From the memories of the Sethite wizards, their clan's dark magic was all obtained from the Temple of Darkness by the Vampires, who then gave it to them. The witches must have had some kind of fortunate encounter in the temple as well.
Chelsea, who had only just learned that the Temple of Darkness was located in the Capri Plains, pressed her lips together and said nothing.
"Gods don't need incantations to cast spells," Olivia said suddenly, her gaze fixed on the direction where golden light and darkness intertwined.
"Oh?" Cynthia paused, turning her head to meet Olivia's eyes. She spoke slowly, "Well, that makes things more interesting."
The God of Darkness wouldn't leave incantations in the temple. So where did the spells obtained by the Vampires and the witches come from?
