Compatibility - Chapter 53
Chapter 53
The cramped space was thick with the scent of passion, ambiguous, yet laced with a tender, wanton warmth.
After the security guard left, Song Nanyin didn't rush to get up. For one, her legs were too weak to support her; for another, Liu Zhaoran was still holding her. Her embrace was so warm and soft that Song Nanyin felt a drowsy illusion wash over her.
To be honest, she just couldn't bear to get up.
"Is Team Leader Song feeling a little better now?" Liu Zhaoran suddenly spoke. The question, coming out of nowhere, made Song Nanyin snort. She began to wonder if she was really that obvious, that Liu Zhaoran could pick up on it so easily.
But she still had her pride, and she was also prickly and tsundere, so Song Nanyin refused to admit it, still talking tough even now.
"What are you talking about? When was I in a bad mood? Whether I'm in a good mood or not is always yours to decide, anyway. I'm just a little tired from work. I'll be fine after I rest a while."
Song Nanyin knew this excuse was flimsy, but she couldn't think of anything better to say on the spot. She couldn't very well tell Liu Zhaoran the truth, could she? That she liked her, but Liu Zhaoran didn't like her back, so she was wallowing in heartbreak?
"Is that so? Then take some good time to relax over the New Year. Team Leader Song, I really like the way we are now, and I hope we can always be each other's partner, even each other's support."
"Me, I always thought you were someone who lives in the moment. I didn't expect Team Leader Song to be so good at keeping things hidden in her heart. I don't like to wrong myself, and I don't want to do anything that makes me miserable either."
Liu Zhaoran held Song Nanyin, speaking as if confiding in her, but it sounded more like murmuring to herself. She hadn't failed to notice Song Nanyin's distance. On the contrary, she had felt that withdrawal and coldness acutely.
Liu Zhaoran was restless. A sullen fire burned in her chest. Work had to be done, so she forced herself to calm down, but it barely helped.
Such loss of control was foreign to Liu Zhaoran. She hated this anxious, fidgety feeling, hated the taste of slipping beyond her grasp.
So today, she had done this, said these words.
"If you're unhappy, and I'm the one who made you unhappy, I hope you'll be honest and tell me. At the very least, give me a chance to comfort you."
Liu Zhaoran's voice was soft, coaxing. Before this, Song Nanyin had never known that a person could move someone with just their voice. But now she believed it. She had no choice but to believe it. After all, this woman was whispering right by her ear, every word sinking deep into her bones and marrow, turning her whole body weak.
Song Nanyin felt a little aggrieved. She figured Liu Zhaoran was probably that kind of straight woman lesbian circles called "the most insufferable": the one who flirts without knowing it, who flirts and never follows through. That damned charm, making her fall so hard. She really wanted to bite her.
"Hey, why are you flirting with me? Just talk normally. It's so sappy." Song Nanyin poked Liu Zhaoran's face with her hand. Someone this vain would definitely be unhappy if their face got poked, right? So she poked and poked and poked. But this time, Liu Zhaoran didn't dodge and didn't get unhappy. Instead, she leaned in on her own, offering her face to be poked.
"Sorry. Everything I said was sincere. If Team Leader Song thinks I'm flirting with you, then that's what it is. I just want you to be a little happier, because that's the only way I can be happy. It's rare to have time like this. I want you to enjoy these things. Or rather, enjoy me."
As she spoke, Liu Zhaoran kissed Song Nanyin's earlobe. Whether it was that sentence striking home, Song Nanyin only felt her chest pound, her heart going numb and tingly along with it.
She suddenly felt that her stubbornness over this period had actually been rather pointless. Because she liked Liu Zhaoran, and Liu Zhaoran had no idea. In the other woman's eyes, perhaps she had just been throwing a groundless fit.
Song Nanyin had thought it through. No matter where her relationship with Liu Zhaoran stood, at least right now, they were inseparable, the closest people to each other. If something else came afterward, she could deal with it then.
Whether she liked Liu Zhaoran or wouldn't like her later, since none of that had materialized, none of it had arrived, it wasn't a question to be pondered now.
"Team Leader Song, shall we head back?" Liu Zhaoran shifted her somewhat numb feet. She figured Song Nanyin should be past the afterglow by now, and it was time to go.
"Oh, you should have other clothes in your lounge, right? Lend me something to wear." Song Nanyin didn't need to look to know she must be a wreck right now. Her skirt and panties were soaked, some residual liquid still clinging to them. However you looked at it, this outfit couldn't be worn again.
"I do. We're about the same size. But you probably won't fit into my bra."
"Who said I'd wear your bra? Just find me some outer clothes and pants, and... panties..."
"Mm, panties are no problem."
Liu Zhaoran and Song Nanyin helped each other up, and the two of them, in their high heels, returned to the brightly lit office.
"You go shower and change first. I'll clean up outside." Holding two large packs of wet wipes, Liu Zhaoran gestured toward the outside for Song Nanyin. Song Nanyin understood what she needed to clean, but she couldn't help questioning the quantity of two entire packs of wet wipes.
At first: Was there really that much? Does wiping that... really need this many wipes? Then it gradually shifted into doubt: Two packs of wipes... should be enough to wipe it clean, right?
With her doubts in tow, Song Nanyin took her clothes and went to the small bathroom in the lounge. This was her first time at Liu Zhaoran's place here. After all, the office was usually full of people and loose lips. Even though the two of them lived together, they deliberately came and went separately to avoid anyone finding out, let alone coming to Liu Zhaoran's lounge to shower.
Come to think of it, Zhang Kai really did go out of his way for Liu Zhaoran. Not only had he prepared an entire floor of office area just for her, he had even put a fully equipped bathroom in her lounge, complete with a bathtub.
Standing under the shower to wash up, Song Nanyin lowered her eyes to a certain limp little part. A thought suddenly hit her: she hadn't been too embarrassing today, had she? The time hadn't been that short, had it?
Realizing what she was thinking about, Song Nanyin slapped her cheeks twice. After washing up clean, she came back drying her hair. By then, Liu Zhaoran had already changed her clothes and was sitting at her desk going through documents. She seemed about to leave.
"Done showering?"
"Mm. Your lounge is quite nice."
"If you like it, you can come rest here in the future."
"Yeah, right. If I did that, who knows what the people at the company would say if they saw. Are you done with your overtime? Let's go."
Song Nanyin had no intention of waiting for her hair to dry before leaving. Her hair was on the coarse side, and she rarely used a blow dryer. Waiting for it to air-dry would take too long.
Back home, the two took another simple shower. The room didn't have any bright lights on, only the ambient lamp on the table. The fractured crystals glinted beneath the light, casting rippling patches of light across the wall like water waves. It was an atmosphere suited for kissing, and also very suited for making love.
Song Nanyin had barely lain down on the bed when Liu Zhaoran pressed on top of her, slipping the opened finger cot onto her own hand.
"Team Leader Song, like you said earlier. Tonight, it's my turn to be satisfied."
After "settling the debt," Song Nanyin was tired, panting roughly. She casually peeled off the soaked finger cot and tightened her arms around Liu Zhaoran. The woman docilely burrowed into her embrace, nuzzling gently.
"We're off starting tomorrow afternoon. How does Team Leader Song plan to spend the New Year?"
"I made plans with my best friend. I'm going to her place."
Song Nanyin found it a little odd that Liu Zhaoran would ask her about the New Year, and she didn't notice the flicker of disappointment that passed through Liu Zhaoran's eyes after she finished speaking.
"Is that so? Then I wish Team Leader Song a happy time." With that, Liu Zhaoran turned over, facing away from Song Nanyin, ready to sleep.
Feeling the atmosphere suddenly shift, Song Nanyin wondered what was wrong with Liu Zhaoran, but didn't think much of it. In her view, Liu Zhaoran would surely go back to her hometown for the New Year, or else she would definitely have a crowd of people inviting her out. Either way, it wasn't like herself, with only Chai Yue accompanying her every year.
"Oh. Good night, then." Song Nanyin muttered quietly, glancing at Liu Zhaoran, who had her back to her and was wrapped in the blanket.
She seemed upset? But she was also kind of cute.
