The First Pope - Chapter 112

Chapter 112

It was rare to hear such a responsive reply from Olivia, and Cynthia was eager to spend time alone with her. Whether it was doing something intimate or just drinking nectar and chatting, she would feel content and happy.

But the sudden appearance of a large number of Magic Dragons in the Slade Sea Region was no small matter; she had to go back and see for herself.

And Olivia agreeing to accompany her was something that made Cynthia even happier than the prospect of them being alone together.

The wooden door was narrow, only wide enough for one person to pass through. Cynthia stepped slightly to the side to make way, watching as Olivia walked past her. She deliberately leaned in, her lowered voice carrying an unconcealable smile, "Is Her Majesty the Queen reluctant to part with me?"

She rested a hand on Olivia's shoulder, her long, fair fingers twirling a lock of her long hair.

Olivia's steps faltered. She glanced sideways at Cynthia's hand, then gently brushed it away and gave a faint "mm" before walking out of the wooden house.

Although the response was overly concise, Cynthia couldn't help but let out a low laugh.

Darcy had left the house a step ahead of them, so she didn't see their interaction. Seeing Olivia come out first, she asked, "Does Her Majesty the Queen need to summon her people?"

If the Magic Dragons went berserk, the human knights and Light Knights alone would surely not be able to withstand their attacks.

"Not for now." Olivia shook her head. She raised her right hand into the air and waited a moment. A dark green longbow flew into her hand. She passed the bow to Cynthia, who was behind her, and said softly, "I heard from Polly that you can use this bow."

She had seen Cynthia draw this bow, but her consciousness was already fading at the time. It was only later, when Polly described it, that she recalled the event.

This was a god's weapon. Even she could only use it when channeling the divine power from the temple deep underground with a branch.

But Cynthia had drawn the bowstring with her own power alone, which was truly shocking.

Cynthia took the dark green longbow, her fingertips brushing over the bowstring before she gently drew it back. Seeing Olivia's astonished expression, she raised an eyebrow and asked, "Is there something wrong with this bow?"

There was nothing wrong with the bow; the one who was not right was probably Cynthia.

Olivia gave her a deep look. "You are the first person who has been able to draw its string."

Cynthia was taken aback. She looked down at the longbow in her hands, her gaze growing more serious.

So many incredible things had already happened around Cynthia that Olivia had grown somewhat accustomed to it. She turned and walked toward the teleportation array. "Let's go. Let me see the power of this longbow in your hands."

A portion of the cities in the Slade Sea Region had just been cleared out, and one of them had been targeted by a Magic Dragon. The dragon circled endlessly above the city; to it, the dense crowd of humans below was like a swarm of ants. It could crush a whole pile of them with a single swipe of its claw. But it remained in the air, choosing not to descend, because it detected a very unpleasant aura of light among those ants.

Memories from the era of the gods made it feel apprehension and fear at the sight of light. But the aura of light below was too weak, and it really didn't want to give up this sleeping spot. Greed weakened its fear and apprehension of the light, and the Magic Dragon flew in circles, conflicted about whether to go down or not.

Although the Magic Dragon kept circling in the air, the dragon's breath it occasionally spewed still posed a mortal threat to the humans below. The God Race chanted spells to erect layer after layer of barriers to counter the dragon's breath, while the Light Knights and human knights worked together to evacuate the humans from the city.

Susan watched the situation from a short distance away. Seeing the newly built wooden houses destroyed again, she clenched her fists in anger.

Doris saw her trembling and thought she was afraid of the Magic Dragons. She placed a hand on her arm and soothed her gently, "Don't be afraid. Darcy and Cynthia will be back soon."

"I don't sense any danger. These Magic Dragons probably won't bring us disaster," Doris said, placing her hand on the back of Susan's to share her perception.

Doris's heart was a sea of tranquility, which invisibly dissipated Susan's anger. Her tightly furrowed brow relaxed, and she turned to stare at Doris for a moment, asking curiously, "Why are you the only one who can foresee danger? It seems the other God Race members can't."

She had never heard Cynthia mention anything about foreseeing danger either.

Not only was Susan puzzled by this, but the entire God Race was as well. But Doris couldn't provide an answer. She said apologetically, "I'm not sure about that either."

She felt she might only find the answer by returning to the place of her birth.

As the two of them were talking, a golden chain suddenly flew from the horizon and coiled around the Magic Dragon. Caught off guard, the dragon was startled as the chain bound it. It struggled furiously but couldn't break free from the chain's restraint. It was thrown by the chain onto an empty plot of land, and a golden barrier appeared over the heads of the humans who had not yet been evacuated from the city.

Susan and Doris simultaneously turned to look in the direction the golden chain had come from. Cynthia and Olivia were standing on a high slope, looking toward the Magic Dragon and saying something. One was warm, the other cold, yet their figures standing together were unexpectedly harmonious.

The furious roars of the Magic Dragon bound by the golden chain attracted the other dragons. The already gloomy sky instantly turned dark. The scales on the Magic Dragons shimmered with a cold light, and their dark green eyes were like two burning flames. The flames pressed downward as if searching for something, and soon they locked onto Cynthia and Olivia.

Olivia raised her right hand slightly, and flames erupted from the ground, forming a barrier in front of her and Cynthia. She looked up at the Magic Dragons in the sky and said in a low voice, "These few Magic Dragons are much stronger than the previous one."

If one were to use Vampires as a comparison, several of these Magic Dragons were much stronger than even Third Generation Vampires. Coupled with their hard scales, sharp claws, and powerful dragon's breath, they would even have the ability to fight against Second Generation Vampires.

It would be impossible to drive them away without paying a price.

With the help of its companions, the dragon bound by the chain finally broke free. It soared into the sky in a rage, then opened its mouth and spewed a breath of dragon's breath toward Cynthia. A gray, cold mist mixed with ice spikes rushed toward the fire barrier, and the flames immediately dimmed.

Surrounded by more than a dozen Magic Dragons, Cynthia remained calm. She caressed the dark green longbow in her hands, her golden eyes lifting slightly to gaze at the dragons in the sky through the fire barrier. The dragon that had just spewed its breath at them was still roaring at them, looking very eager to charge down and shatter the barrier.

For some reason, the other Magic Dragons just circled in the air, growling as if they were communicating.

"They don't seem to want to attack us." Cynthia raised a hand to tuck her wind-tousled hair behind her ear, saying thoughtfully, "They're hesitating."

What would make a magical beast feel apprehensive?

Olivia turned her head, her pale green eyes fixed on Cynthia. The movement of the other's lips as she spoke momentarily entranced her. It wasn't until Cynthia turned to look at her that she averted her gaze and said in a low voice, "The previous Magic Dragon was the same way when it faced you."

Hesitant, struggling, apprehensive—which was why it had fled in the end.

Cynthia touched her own face, suddenly recalling the memory she had seen from the statue in the temple at Pegel. A flicker of understanding crossed her eyes. The sound of footsteps came from behind her. She turned around to see Darcy and the other God Race members standing not far away, waving their staves at them.

Cynthia nodded at Darcy. Suddenly, Light Knights in golden armor walked up from both sides, forming a barrier in front of the God Race. Cynthia's gaze fell on Sophie, who stood in the very center of the Light Knights. This once-slender girl had now grown into an outstanding knight.

Cynthia's lips curved slightly. She withdrew her gaze, then raised the dark green longbow. Her fingers rested on the bowstring and slowly drew it back. A golden arrow rapidly materialized on the bowstring. A powerful pressure cut through the surrounding space. The dark clouds overhead suddenly dispersed, and dazzling sunlight streamed down, seeming to merge with the arrow.

"Let's catch one of the Magic Dragons…" Cynthia raised the bow slightly, aiming at the roaring dragon, and said with a smile, "We'll know what they're afraid of after we ask it a few questions."

As her words fell, the golden arrow shot out like a bolt of lightning. The moment the bowstring was drawn, the circling Magic Dragons sensed the danger. They stopped their growling and looked down in unison. That familiar golden light tore through their memories, and the sacred figure of the Goddess of Light burst into their minds.

In the era of the gods, they did not fear the God of Darkness, whose power was of the same origin as the dark power within them. Nor did they fear the invincible Earth Mother. They were even less afraid of the other subordinate gods. Only the Goddess of Light… her scorching, dazzling Power of Light was their nemesis. They had been defeated at her hands countless times.

This was the divine power of the Goddess of Light… The Magic Dragons scattered and fled, their figures quickly disappearing from sight. The dragon that had been roaring at Cynthia, its mind clouded by rage, instantly calmed down. It turned to flee with the others, but the golden arrow remained locked onto it. Before it could even leave the city's perimeter, it was struck in the back. It let out a pained cry and crashed heavily to the ground.

Previously, to make Talia pay a price, Cynthia had conjured three arrows in succession, and the last one had already pushed her to her limit. Although the discomfort had faded after some rest, using the bow again in such a short time, Cynthia still felt the strain.

"This is the divine Power of Light…" Olivia gazed at the golden arrow embedded in the Magic Dragon's back, her eyes deep. Though she had long suspected it, seeing it for real was still a shock.

Cynthia lowered the longbow and shook the hand that had drawn the string. Olivia's peripheral vision caught the movement. She turned to look, then grabbed Cynthia's wrist and lifted it. Seeing some fine red cracks had appeared on the back of her hand, her brow furrowed. "…Don't push yourself."

After she spoke, she saw Cynthia looking at her with a peculiar expression. She paused and asked, "What is it?"

Cynthia chuckled, turning her hand to grasp Olivia's, squeezing it gently. She teased, "The person who loves to push herself the most is telling someone else not to overdo it."

She wasn't overdoing it. Olivia snorted softly and pulled her hand away from Cynthia's.
