GAMMT - Chapter 86
Chapter 86: Impatient
Steam filled the bathroom. This was different from the gene pool, where the focus was on genetic transformation and nothing else mattered. Here, she was taking a shower.
When people showered, their emotions were relaxed. Fu Chuan ran a hand through her hair, water flowing through her fingers, washing away the white lather of the shampoo. She seemed somewhat absent-minded.
Suddenly, as if sensing something, she turned her head toward the bathroom door and quickly grabbed a towel from the side. But just as she had managed to half-cover herself, a black shadow seeping in from under the door flashed inside.
It was incredibly fast. The wall itself seemed to shift, as the figure had used a wind arcane truth—fusing its body with wings—to fan itself directly through the door's ventilation slit.
As it flashed into the steamy bathroom, its originally invisible body was immediately cloaked in a hazy form outlined by the water vapor.
This person's control over elements and arcane arts was extremely precise, silent, and rather terrifying.
"Who?!"
The figure didn't respond. Upon seeing her, it acted like a robot, raising a hand without a word. The wind element swirled, instantly coalescing with the bathroom's steam to form a dripping, translucent wind-elemental scythe in its hand, which it then swung viciously at Fu Chuan.
The district where the Sage Medical Hall was located was called the Sage District, primarily because of the hall's presence. The residents nearby were indeed all high-ranking officials and dignitaries. Two streets away, diagonally from Fu Chuan's flower shop and residence, stood a rather classical old house, likely several hundred years old.
Ancient trees stood gracefully, and the willows whispered like lutes.
Qin Liechuan was not lying in bed but was dressed in loungewear, reviewing classified documents. The information detailed the on-site survey data from Red Lion Manor.
The bureau had already launched an investigation.
"Director Qin, are you sure you don't want to stay at the bureau's medical facility? This is no minor injury, after all."
"But it's not a major one either. Just some internal organ damage that's slow to heal. It's of no consequence."
"Didn't the people from the medical hall say so?"
Qin Liechuan recalled the woman he saw in a half-conscious state when the snow was melted away. She seemed to have assessed his injuries at a glance and didn't even frown, not bothering to cast a single healing spell before she went to inspect the surroundings.
It wasn't that he was one to hold a grudge, thinking the girl was too cold-hearted. Rather, he felt her judgment was incredibly accurate. His life was indeed not in danger, and her decision to immediately investigate the suspicious activities at Red Lion Manor was the right one, buying time to preserve some of the evidence.
Was she only eighteen?
"Besides, I'm here, all the equipment is on, and you're all here. It's not like that group would be bold enough to come and assassinate me here, right?"
The moment he said that, the expressions on Qin Liechuan and his guards changed. They all whipped their heads in the same direction.
On the balcony, Qin Liechuan looked at a house two streets away, sensing the intense elemental fluctuations from that direction. His brow furrowed instantly.
There was an assassination attempt, but perhaps not targeting him.
The group took to the air, flying at top speed. The distance was short, and they arrived in an instant.
Qin Liechuan and his men arrived within two or three seconds, greeted by the sight of a bathroom wall that had been slashed open. The faucet was broken, and hot water was gushing out.
"Who goes there!"
The guards were all level 50 elites. Even before reaching Fu Chuan's residence, they spotted a black shadow escaping from the steam-filled, broken bathroom on the second floor, fleeing under the streetlights. Four guards immediately locked onto the target, casting support, binding, and attack spells.
Miss!
All of them missed?
How high must its agility be? Damn! Over 70, surely!
The next second, the black shadow zipped to the ground, burrowed into it, and vanished without a trace. Two guards followed, burrowing into the ground in pursuit, while the others remained on guard. After all, feints designed to lure guards away before assassinating a high-ranking official were not unheard of.
Qin Liechuan had just reached the balcony but didn't enter. Instead, he turned his back to the room, averting his gaze.
The person inside was unharmed, dressed in a bathrobe, though her expression was grim as she seemed to be pondering something.
Qin Liechuan glanced down at the spot where the assassin had disappeared into the ground, a thought forming in his mind: with such terrifying agility and assassination speed, the fact that she was unharmed meant she was either more perceptive and powerful, or…
At that moment, the young woman he had his back to had already changed in her bedroom and walked out. In a soft, husky tone, she said, "Director Qin, I don't think he was here to kill me."
Qin Liechuan turned around. He watched her towel-dry her hair, his gaze shifting away slightly to the gash in the wall. He assessed the attacker's strength and found himself believing her conjecture.
"If not for an assassination, then why? And so stealthily…"
A guard was using a device to scan for elemental signatures. Hearing this, he looked puzzled. It was too much of a coincidence. They had all assumed it was someone from the TK Group targeting this young physician, possibly in retaliation for the Red Lion Manor incident. After all, if not for her timely warning, their plan would have succeeded.
But as he asked the question, he turned to look at the young woman, elegantly robed and exuding a fragrant aura, and a less reliable theory popped into his head.
A philanderer?
Qin Liechuan, however, didn't engage in pointless speculation. He simply removed the badge from his chest and activated the data within.
Fu Chuan glanced at the badge, a thought stirring within her. As expected, high-ranking officials in certain imperial departments were equipped with the empire's finest devices, capable of bypassing arcane grade levels to lock onto an enemy's true nature.
There was once a player who specialized in side quests to climb the official ladder, eventually reaching the level of a provincial vice-minister. The stats on his badge were to die for.
A director-level badge should be a tier below that, but Fu Chuan could basically ascertain its power.
So, the assassin must have been scanned, since Qin Liechuan had arrived in time.
Soon, a screen projected from his wrist device showed a black shadow.
The shadow was continuously scanned, and the face of an ordinary man quickly appeared. Qin Liechuan glanced at it, frowned, and asked Fu Chuan, "Do you remember this person?"
Fu Chuan stepped forward to look. "The one from the supermarket."
It was the same man who had been pestering her.
Qin Liechuan grew thoughtful. "It seems he was deliberately engaging you then to probe you. I thought as much. How would an ordinary person have the guts to approach you?"
Although this Fu Chuan looked young and had a gentle temperament, not arrogant or overbearing, she clearly didn't fit in with ordinary people.
That man bullied the weak and feared the strong, but he wasn't an idiot. He should have had some discernment.
Hearing this, Fu Chuan's gaze shifted, and she glanced at Qin Liechuan. "I don't know him. Is he from the TK Group? But before this rescue mission, I had no involvement in this matter. It makes no sense for him to have probed me in advance."
It was indeed very strange.
But Qin Liechuan wasn't worried. He activated a second button on the badge.
After a second scan, the face locked on the screen seemed to be peeled away, layer by layer.
Finally, a young and handsome face was revealed.
It was the face of someone between a youth and a young man, elegant and refined, with an air of nobility that was almost overwhelming.
Huh?
Suddenly transforming from a sleazy middle-aged uncle to such a beautiful young man, the guards exchanged glances. Qin Liechuan looked at Fu Chuan.
"This one, do you know him?"
He thought it might have been a love-struck, crazed youth trying to assault her…
"I don't know him," Fu Chuan replied, completely unfazed.
"Never seen him before? No contact at all?"
"None. Director Qin, if I had ever come into contact with such a capable and handsome young man, I would surely have some impression. I'm not made of stone."
She certainly seemed like she was.
In any case, Qin Liechuan felt this girl's composure was almost frighteningly steady. And from their first meeting, he had sensed that she wasn't particularly impressed by physical appearances, male or female.
He wasn't bragging, but over the years, he had received his fair share of compliments. Yet this person…
"Then we'll run a thorough check through the system. Until we confirm the other party's identity, you're still in danger. Would you like to stay at the Sage Medical Hall? Or I can arrange a safe place for you?"
A guard at his side suggested, "Why not stay at the Director's home? It would be convenient."
They all knew about this girl and were aware that if not for her quick thinking today, their superior might have died, and they would have been finished as well. Thus, they held a very favorable impression of this young physician.
Fu Chuan: "?"
Qin Liechuan shot his personal guard a cold look, and the guard quickly lowered his head.
Fu Chuan didn't pay it much mind and said, "I'll go back to the medical hall."
"I'll have to trouble you to investigate this person's identity. Do I need to file a police report?"
Qin Liechuan replied, "No need. We'll handle the investigation. You can rest easy."
Fu Chuan said nothing more. When she was about to leave for the medical hall, Qin Liechuan and his guards insisted on escorting her.
"It's fine, it's on the way."
Fu Chuan glanced at him. She was quickly escorted back to the Sage Medical Hall. After all, they were Arcanists, and travel could be extremely fast when needed.
Head Nurse Bear and the others were very busy, and Fu Chuan had no intention of telling them about the incident, so she left directly.
Watching Fu Chuan enter the dormitory building, Qin Liechuan turned and led his men away. Of course, he hadn't just been escorting her.
The guards returned, reporting that they had lost the target.
"That person is extremely skilled, likely an assassin specializing in agility and stealth."
"Keep investigating. He probably lives nearby and has been observing and probing Fu Chuan."
In truth, Qin Liechuan didn't quite understand what secret this Fu Chuan held. Was it merely because she had interfered with today's mission?
Unable to figure it out, Qin Liechuan ordered his department to conduct a sweeping search while he returned to the bureau and used his authority to look up the identity of the handsome young man…
The identity was quickly revealed.
"Xie Qingyan?"
Qin Liechuan was stunned.
He had previously been the head of the Economic Department in Jingyang City. Although he was busy with his duties and not a local, and had little contact with Jingyang's Green Blood families, he had at least heard of this person.
After the upheaval in the Jingyang Xie Clan, since it was the main branch of the Xie Clan that had acted, all parties tacitly understood the situation, and no one bothered to check if all the Jingyang Xie members were dead.
Now it seemed… not only was Xie Keli alive, but this Eldest Young Master of the Xie Clan was as well.
So why wasn't he targeting Xie Keli? Why was he targeting Fu Chuan?
And what was the relationship between this Fu Chuan and Xie Keli?
Unbeknownst to the officials, whose attention was now drawn to this assassination attempt, deep in the soul of the unconscious Qin Minfeng in some underground alley, a struggle was taking place. He wanted to cry for help but couldn't wake up. Moreover, he could feel his body being systematically destroyed by a continuous release of electrical energy.
Inch by inch, his internal organs were being damaged. He found it hard to breathe, and his heartbeat began to slow.
Pain, so much pain.
It was a prolonged process of dying, and in the deepest recesses of his soul, he relived many memories.
But ultimately, they boiled down to two thoughts.
1. Fu Chuan is killing me. Why is she killing me? Has she forgotten how close we were as children? I clearly said I would protect her! Even tonight, I only wanted to capture her alive, I never intended to harm her. How did she get mixed up with Xie Keli? She betrayed me!
2. Why is she killing me this way? Why… why…
Pain and confusion tangled repeatedly, enough to make a protagonist—who wasn't exceptionally talented but had developed a self-aggrandizing personality thanks to a system bug—feel endless resentment and bitterness in his final moments.
This wasn't how it was supposed to be.
He had dreamt many times that he would eventually become the master of this world. How could he die here?
Impossible!
Someone will come to save me, right?
Those people, they will definitely come to save me.
Where is that TK infiltrator? Where the hell did he go?! Damn you, TK!
Inside her dormitory, Fu Chuan took off her coat and collapsed onto the sofa, exhausted. She closed her eyes, and suddenly, she received a strange notification.
"Ding! The host of this Merit Points System has died. Although not a direct kill, based on causal calculations, ownership will be transferred to you. Do you wish to bind this system? If not, it will disintegrate and be converted into destiny and luck, which will permanently belong to you."
He's finally dead.
Qin Minfeng.
But what surprised Fu Chuan was that Qin Minfeng's system would be transferred to her.
That was the protagonist's bug-like system.
Fu Chuan opened her eyes, sat up, and rubbed her eyelids, suppressing the tremor in her heart. After careful consideration, she made her decision.
"Do not bind. I want the luck."
Fu Chuan was a "god" from outside the game; she saw the system's rules at a glance. It was nothing more than a system for getting close to various people and winning them over. On a male protagonist, it was a stud system; on a female protagonist, it would have a similar effect.
Although it was a means to an end, Fu Chuan was an outsider. She felt a subtle sense of restraint toward the natives, always feeling they weren't from the same world. Getting too involved would be troublesome later on. If she had to actively entangle herself with so many locals because of this system, she was truly unwilling.
She could guess with her fingers that its next targets would likely be paragons like Xie Siyi, Qin Liechuan, Li Cang, or Wei Mingtang.
"Qin Minfeng might not have been so profit-driven from the start. But when a system dangles a grand prize and lays out a path to the pinnacle of life, how many can resist greed and the temptation of a shortcut? Over time, I might become just as detestable as he did."
Moreover, Fu Chuan had a sound personality. Using some cunning for self-preservation was understandable, but this path wasn't about resisting and scheming to protect her own safety. It was about actively exploiting the genuine feelings of others for personal gain.
A pig-butchering scam system.
Fu Chuan silently gave the system a nickname as she refused to bind it.
"Are you sure? You are rejecting an opportunity to become a god."
Fu Chuan frowned. "Can a god let me leave this world and travel to other cosmic spaces?"
The system fell silent.
Not impressive enough, huh.
Naturally, Fu Chuan once again firmly refused to bind it.
"Refusal to bind confirmed. This system will now disintegrate and transform into destiny and luck, integrating with your will and soul."
"Good luck to you, wise and calm God-Refuser."
As the destiny and luck merged into her body, Fu Chuan felt a subtle sensation.
Her entire body felt strangely nourished.
The change began from the depths of her Gene Tree.
She had a faint feeling that after killing Qin Minfeng, the very soil that nurtured her Gene Tree had changed. In the future, its growth and mutation potential might become as full of bugs as the protagonist's.
"Although I thought I might get some benefits after killing that personal grandpa-in-a-ring, I never expected the benefits to be this great."
Fu Chuan felt that perhaps even twenty trips to the Xie Ancestral Temple couldn't compare to this benefit.
Now that Qin Minfeng was truly dead, Fu Chuan flicked her fingers… and the underground electrical circuit and the bottle of soil-melting agent were withdrawn by her.
The evidence was annihilated.
At a stall in the Sage District, a seemingly ordinary old man stirred his steaming rice noodles with chopsticks. He turned his head to look at the military personnel conducting a search in disguise on the street and frowned slightly.
He sensed that these disguised military personnel seemed to be looking for someone.
Could he have been exposed?
Or did that Qin Minfeng finally make a move…
Fortunately, he wasn't using his supermarket disguise and had changed into an old man, otherwise he might have been identified.
That Fu Chuan was very strange.
He couldn't figure it out for the moment, but he realized he couldn't stay here any longer. He had to leave quickly. He lowered his head and slowly finished his noodles.
After paying, he melted into the crowd.
Qin Liechuan was baffled, but after using his equipment and deploying personnel for a sweeping search, he finally made a discovery in the morning.
At 8 AM, Qin Liechuan appeared in an alley.
The sky had brightened, and the alley was no longer dark like the previous night. It was well-lit, with warm sunlight. Both ends of the alley had been sealed off by officials.
The equipment detected someone underground.
A dead person.
But the body hadn't been excavated yet. After Qin Liechuan arrived, a second lieutenant was preparing to act. As an Arcanist, digging up a person was a quick task.
The soil was manipulated, rolling back to either side, but soon everyone was looking at each other in bewilderment.
It was a dead person, buried alive.
The body was covered in dirt, its face bluish, and the subcutaneous tissue was stiff and blackened.
"The deceased died from electrocution. The perpetrator is likely a lightning-element Arcanist. Time of death was one in the morning."
"Here's the surveillance footage from outside the district. Take a look."
In the footage, some people used this alley as a shortcut during the day. But at night, due to lingering electrical circuits, most people avoided it for safety. Fu Chuan, being an Arcanist, had no such qualms. From entering to leaving the alley, everything seemed perfectly normal.
Qin Liechuan checked the time. It was just past ten o'clock then.
Only Fu Chuan had passed through at night.
But her timeline didn't match Qin Minfeng's. For an Arcanist, a three-hour gap was an eternity.
This meant she might be connected, but she wouldn't be a suspect.
Qin Liechuan subconsciously recalled that at one in the morning, he was escorting Fu Chuan to her dormitory. Before that, she had been at home and was even attacked.
It wasn't her.
"The deceased's identity has been verified… It's Qin Minfeng, a student who just passed the re-selection exam for the Big Four Academies. He has already enrolled and been confirmed as a student of West Jin Academy."
Qin Liechuan's head snapped up, and the others' expressions grew complicated.
What the hell was this? They thought they were investigating the TK Group, but now they were entangled with the supposedly dead Eldest Young Master of the Jingyang Xie Clan and a high school entrance exam candidate. But undoubtedly, both were connected to the same person.
Xie Keli.
"So, what is the relationship between Xie Keli and Fu Chuan?"
Qin Liechuan fell silent, while the second lieutenant gave a wry smile. "This is troublesome. Qin Minfeng himself isn't a big deal, but the problem is that he's now a student of one of the Big Four Academies, and he was killed around the time of the entrance exams. It could be a revenge killing. According to education law, this matter must be handed over to West Jin Academy for a thorough investigation, with the Education Ministry overseeing the case. The case has to be transferred."
If it was transferred, more departments would get involved.
The situation would become complicated.
"Maybe it's just a conflict between these exam candidates, unrelated to our investigation. Should we just transfer the case?"
Qin Liechuan remained silent, instead bending down to examine Qin Minfeng's body. He soon picked through the items that had dropped from his backpack upon death and suddenly pulled something out.
"Unrelated? I doubt it."
"This ship ticket, do you think the Lian Family or he himself could have obtained it?"
The second lieutenant's expression twitched when he saw it.
A ticket for a long-distance, high-speed vessel. This person was trying to flee to another province, and on a top-tier provincial high-speed flight at that. Tickets were incredibly hard to come by; usually, only Orange Blood families or some prominent figures could arrange a seat on such short notice.
"He just finished his entrance exam. It's unlikely he was thinking of leaving Beluke before the exam. So he must have wanted to escape something after a setback in the exam, hence the hasty departure. And this ticket was procured for him by someone else. He has backing."
The second lieutenant's analysis led him to believe this was a complex matter with hidden connections.
"Take the body back for autopsy first. Also, investigate him and that Xie Qingyan. I have a feeling there's a secret connecting these two."
"And the one linking them is Xie Keli, while the one affected is Fu Chuan."
Qin Liechuan pondered for a moment, then turned his head toward the Sage Medical Hall.
If he remembered correctly, she had an outreach rescue mission from the medical hall today.
He thought for a moment, contacted Head Nurse Bear, got Fu Chuan's communication number, and made the call.
"Doctor Fu."
"Do you know Xie Keli?"
He got straight to the point.
Fu Chuan, not yet out of bed and slightly grumpy from being woken up, rubbed her eyes and replied.
"Who?"
Qin Minfeng was dead.
The news spread like a plague. It was strange; a person who couldn't even rank in the second tier among 4,000 candidates, yet his death seemed to have tugged at the nerves of some hidden network.
The news reached Pang Ci and the others who were still lingering in Beluke City, and they were quite surprised.
He's dead just like that?
"Couldn't have been the BOSS, right?"
"Probably not. Wasn't he taken away by that Aunt Xie?"
"Who knows. It was so sudden. That Xie Keli has always been cunning; he might have been the one to do him in."
"I really don't get it. What kind of deep-seated hatred must it be…"
The Lian, Chen, and Donglong families all had different reactions, but according to procedure, West Jin Academy would definitely intervene. As their enforcement team headed toward the Sage District…
In the shadows, the TK Group's undercover agents, having lost contact with their dispatched expert and learning of Qin Minfeng's death, immediately reported to their superior.
This superior was in a secret meeting with another high-level member.
"That Fu Chuan is definitely suspicious."
The latter, hidden in the darkness, remained silent for a moment before speaking. "Qin Minfeng only gave us a part of his pledge of allegiance, but it was enough for us to successfully sabotage Zhou Linlang's team's operation. This proves his words were not false. The higher-ups' intention was that this person is a bit mysterious; we should stabilize the situation first, get him into our territory, and then investigate. Now that he's dead, the secrets he held are lost. The person who killed him might now possess them."
"We need to check this Fu Chuan's background."
"Also, there might be a supreme treasure or a top secret on X5 star. I've noticed the four great Orange Blood families have recently sent people there to investigate. After all, it's impossible for a garbage planet to produce two such figures at the same time."
While they were having their secret discussion, Fu Chuan had already joined the Sage Medical Hall's outreach team early in the morning, heading to a high-incidence dungeon area outside the province.
Many physicians from the Sage Medical Hall were on the trip. The lead physician was a dignified woman in her forties with the surname Jiang.
Doctor Jiang had been in this profession for many years and was a veteran of the Sage Medical Hall. She was a level 60 high-grade grand physician who could invigorate blood and regenerate flesh with a wave of her hand; expelling poison and dispelling illusions were child's play for her. She was completely different from a self-taught amateur like Fu Chuan, but she was very caring toward her.
The reason was simple: she was the youngest.
"The medical hall hasn't hired anyone in many years. We're so busy we can't even touch the ground. Now that we finally have you, we must take good care of you."
Fu Chuan was a bit puzzled. "I see quite a few physicians in Beluke. The medical hall has a great reputation, so many professionals must apply. If you're short-staffed, why haven't you hired anyone in so many years?"
Doctor Jiang smiled. "The director is picky and looks down on ordinary physicians. Besides, there was a period when physicians from other places kept trying to switch over, and there was no shortage of so-called outstanding students from the Big Four Academies wanting to become apprentices… Their intentions were quite devious. The director got tired of it, so he hasn't been keen on hiring for many years."
Oh, apprentices?
Fu Chuan understood and didn't say more. Soon, Doctor Jiang began assigning tasks.
"This is an urgent request from the county police station. A dungeon erupted last night, engulfing an entire village in the middle of the night. There are many ordinary people inside. Based on the current notifications, the dungeon might not have been cleared yet, or it failed due to exceeding the time limit. The casualties will be extraordinarily high. They need our help."
The Sage Medical Hall's good reputation was partly due to this. It didn't exclusively cooperate with high-profile departments or occasions to save so-called nobler people. In fact, the successive directors of the Sage Medical Hall had always upheld the founder's will: life comes first, regardless of status, and aid is dispatched based on the order of danger.
So, even though the military had repeatedly requested them to dispatch personnel, the Sage Medical Hall maintained its aloof yet down-to-earth principle, prioritizing an ordinary village.
Why?
Because more people would die here.
If they didn't come, no one else would.
And while the military's matters seemed important, there were many other places they could request aid from, giving them room to maneuver.
This was also the main reason Fu Chuan chose the Sage Medical Hall.
It was people-oriented.
The airship soon arrived at the dungeon area. The sky curtain was still up.
But a large crowd had already gathered outside.
They were Arcanists who had come upon hearing the news, hoping to clear the dungeon. There were high school students and university students, mostly from Beluke City's academies, mixed with a roughly equal number of independent Arcanists. There were three or four hundred people in total.
Fu Chuan's mind was still on Qin Minfeng's death. She estimated that someone would come looking for her soon.
Just as the airship was about to land, the sky curtain suddenly opened.
The dungeon was over?
Fu Chuan snapped back to reality, only to hear piercing screams coming from within as the curtain opened. And what she saw was…
The village of three thousand households that had been engulfed by the dungeon had long since become a living hell.
There were corpses everywhere, and living people being devoured as they fled…
Chasing and slaughtering them were ugly, green-skinned monsters.
Goblins.
But not ordinary Green-skinned Goblins, but Blue-skinned Goblins. The difference was immense. With such a large goblin army, it was no wonder the Arcanists inside couldn't hold out and the dungeon failed.
Now, only a few dozen people were stubbornly resisting the goblin army's assault, but they were completely incapable of protecting the village behind them, leading to the brutal massacre of the villagers.
The other Arcanists waiting outside were stunned.
"How can this be!"
"Damn, isn't this dungeon supposed to be low-grade Blue Tier? How is it so strong?"
"Get back, they've gotten stronger! Crap!"
The group of Arcanists had been hoping to take advantage of the situation, but they never expected the dungeon to be this outrageous.
"Sigh, it seems the dungeon has mutated. These Arcanists are not high-level enough and probably can't withstand the damage. The situation will only get worse. I'll go to the front lines to fight; you all are responsible for saving people."
With that, Doctor Jiang descended, not even waiting for Fu Chuan and the others to agree.
Doctor Jiang was powerful. At a certain level of power, a healer could switch to offense, abandoning healing for an attack role.
She spread her wings of light and descended from the sky. As her staff's brilliance swayed, the dignified and elegant woman brought down eighteen pillars of heavenly light that crashed into the goblin army, instantly killing three blue-tier, level 40 goblin BOSSes.
Clasping her staff with both hands, she summoned her pet, a Refluxing Light Butterfly, behind her. It continuously drew back the already released light element, recycling it into a sustained barrage of light orbs, effectively providing non-stop support for her own attacks.
Impressive.
Was this a healer? This was a Great Light Master!
Among the crowd were a few candidates still waiting in Beluke City for their school term to start, like Tao Tao. They were overjoyed to see such strong reinforcements arrive.
However, not being locals, they weren't very familiar with the situation. It was only from the exclamations of some Arcanists beside them that they learned who had come.
"From the Sage Medical Hall?"
"Aren't they physicians? Physicians can fight like this?"
"Not all of them. There are physicians who can't fight."
The physician who couldn't fight… descended.
Her wings were like a storm, and with the second-fastest speed, she plummeted from the sky. Before anyone could get a clear look at her, they saw a dense web of Luminous Body healing threads, like the light from a thousand pear trees blossoming, instantly covering more than half the village.
Anyone still breathing, not completely dead, was sustained by these milky-white beams of light tinged with gold.
What terrifying burst healing. It was as if the main vat at a dairy factory had just burst, and an endless supply of milk rained down on them.
And in the midst of this halo of light, with wild, stormy wings spread behind her, her own body seemed to have melted into an outline of light.
One with the light, yet never dissipated.
The other physicians were stunned.
Damn, her one move healed more than all of them combined!
It was a breathtaking, almost divine healing technique. Even Doctor Jiang was taken aback. She turned to look and murmured, "No wonder that picky old eccentric nodded his head this time… I thought it was because of her looks…"
The student group was even more explosive.
"My god, it's Luminous Body! A physician who has mastered Luminous Body! And look at that… a level 30 Luminous Body! And it's a super-strong burst combo of Light Glory and Luminous Body."
"Heavens! How much must that have cost?!"
"Quick, take a picture! For my communicator wallpaper, oh my god!"
The great healer switched to offense, the small healer became a great healer, and the other physicians were also capable of both fighting and healing. The Sage Medical Hall made a powerful impression on the crowd of Arcanists, its name now gilded in gold. Those from other cities watched, trembling.
With such support, the several hundred Arcanists outside finally stabilized, steadily holding their ground against the goblin army.
But even with such strong reinforcements, this mutated blue-tier dungeon put immense pressure on everyone. Doctor Jiang had already sent a message to the city.
"Hold on for another fifteen minutes, reinforcements will arrive. Little Fu Chuan, after that burst, hurry and replenish yourself. Don't get hurt."
A high burst meant a high cost. Fu Chuan glanced at the few candidates among the hundreds of Arcanists whom she had recently fought, and decided not to reveal her sustainable methods. But thinking of the many injured people here, if she held back… it might delay their rescue.
Wei Mingtang was also here, and she was too perceptive.
But there was no need to reveal too much now. The time wasn't right.
So Fu Chuan casually threw out eight puppets.
The puppets flew down, instantly expanding to become as large as stone pillars, firmly planting themselves in the ground. Then Fu Chuan threw a pile of potions to them. The puppets drank the potions on her behalf, rapidly converting them into mental power for her…
Don't ask where these puppets came from. The answer was that she had burned money to make them in the gene pool of the ancestral temple.
That was a huge sum burned in tens of thousands of blue coins!
The attempt to craft an Intermediate Meditation Puppet had failed. What came out of the rice cooker were eight deviant, milk-sucking reflux primary light puppets.
Their stats were good, but they were just too deviant.
The boss eats, it spins the table; the boss takes attendance, it asks for leave; the boss has a meal, it blow-dries its hair. Its alchemical path seemed to have a bad temper.
The cost-effectiveness was enough to make one's heart bleed. The money from the wasted materials alone could have bought a hundred of these light puppets.
Fu Chuan was very depressed about this, and once even doubted if she had any talent for alchemy—of course, this was the result of her crafting before absorbing Qin Minfeng's luck.
But while she burned through money at a frightening rate, for others, it was a shock.
Tao Tao and the others were stunned.
"Is that a physician? Why do I feel like she's a walking golden cat… glittering with golden light everywhere, and she looks so young?"
The candidates, who had just had their eyes opened by a group of heaven's chosen during the entrance exam, were now shocked. Tao Tao couldn't help but glance at Wei Mingtang not far away.
As a fellow woman, she admired Wei Mingtang's powerful talent and abilities, and she envied Yun Baobao's proud family background and aptitude. But this physician from the Sage Medical Hall also seemed exceptionally young…
Doctor Jiang and the others were fine, just once again confirming: the medical hall had recruited a beautiful little rich girl who wasn't stupid but had an insane amount of money.
Reinforcements finally arrived and wiped out the remaining monsters in a few moves. But at that moment, Fu Chuan was suddenly grabbed by a black shadow that shot out from under the rubble.
The person was covered in blood, with one arm severed—the wound clearly from a bite—and half of his face was mangled, though it showed signs of healing. He had been on the verge of death when Fu Chuan's healing had rained down, saving his life.
He clung to Fu Chuan, tugging at her sleeve and making whimpering sounds.
Was he mute? Or was his throat injured?
The boy, about eleven or twelve years old, was crying as he tried to pull her sleeve. Fu Chuan took his wrist in her hand, and her Luminous Body climbed up his arm. Following his severed finger's direction, Fu Chuan casually blasted away the rubble, revealing what was underneath. She fell silent.
Her silence wasn't one of peace, but a deafening roar.
A clamor, the prelude to a necromantic ritual.
Under the rubble, a family of four had been gnawed down to white bones, with not even much blood left.
They had been dead for some time.
She turned her face and saw the boy making animal-like whimpers, his hands holding hers in a silent plea.
But Fu Chuan could only respond with silence. Then, a streak of black light struck the back of the boy's head.
He fainted.
Fu Chuan looked up. In the crowd, a blood-soaked Wei Mingtang said calmly, "If you don't knock him out, he'll die from suffocating due to the pain. That's a condition you can't heal."
The healing arts mastered by current Arcanist physicians were mostly for external injuries. If someone died from cardiac arrest and suffocation due to extreme pain, not even Doctor Jiang could save them.
Fu Chuan was slightly dazed but said nothing.
Many years later, many people would still remember the young physician in white, allowing a filthy, mute boy with a severed arm to cling to her, their clothes connected by blood, but ultimately, there could only be silence.
Doctor Jiang sighed and suddenly asked the military personnel beside her, "Do you have more reinforcements? Who's that coming over there?"
Everyone turned to look.
An airship landed, and out came the enforcement team from West Jin Academy.
Tao Tao and the others thought they were here to rescue them, thinking to themselves, is West Jin Academy this down-to-earth? Couldn't be, they weren't the young masters of Orange Blood families.
But they soon found out why these people were here.
"Is Fu Chuan here? You are currently suspected of being involved in a murder case. We have evidence pointing to your participation in the murder of Qin Minfeng. Please come with us to cooperate with the investigation."
Fu Chuan lowered her eyes. She knew trouble had arrived.
One of the consequences of Qin Minfeng's death.
But she hadn't expected it to come so quickly, and with such force.
So what exactly had Qin Minfeng given those people… to make them so impatient?
