CSMCDB - Chapter 205
Chapter 205
The Empire's meetings always gave Wen Yuncheng a satisfactory answer. She wasn't worried about these things. Right now, she was just pondering whether the Huanling troops on Dragon Island would be enough to get her to Level 90. Once she reached the Saint rank, she could crush anyone, be it the Dragon King or the Phantom Saint.
Sometimes, Wen Yuncheng wondered if she was being too much of a cheat, if she was going too far. But she quickly let it go. So what if she had such immense power? She held no grand ambitions. She protected the Starry Sky Continent and constantly killed its enemies only so she could have a proper, grand wedding with Lin Jinyu later.
She was a person without much ambition.
Perhaps this was for the best.
If someone else had obtained the system's power, it would have been all too easy for them to slaughter their way to the top and unify the continent. They could even rely on machinery to wage interplanar wars in the future.
"1947, what will I get after I reach the max level?" Wen Yuncheng asked, instinctively curious.
[You'll receive a gift from me.] 1947 said with a laugh. [At that time, you might be subject to some restraints, but you'll also be able to do more and have control over more things.] Although 1947 felt that those restraints wouldn't really be restraints for Wen Yuncheng. It had watched her grow up; it knew she wouldn't do certain things.
Like starting wars, or relying on her abilities to wantonly slaughter other planes.
"That's pretty good, then," Wen Yuncheng said with a sigh.
She wasn't overly concerned about some things; one could even say she was a bit cold-blooded to the core. Countless lives had ended at her hands. Although there were all sorts of reasons for it, sometimes reasons couldn't serve as excuses, nor could they cover up the truth. She was the guardian deity in the hearts of the people of the Starry Sky Continent, which meant she was a demon to the people of the Huanling Continent.
Sometimes, Wen Yuncheng worried if she would be affected by the killing, but she later discovered that slaughter brought her no pleasure, nor did she become addicted to it. She pursued great power, hoping to protect the people around her, but it seemed the number of people she was protecting was growing, even if it wasn't her conscious intention.
The way things were now was perhaps good, but people always change. Wen Yuncheng didn't know if she would change in the future, but 1947's mention of restraints put her at ease.
In truth, even if the template was stripped away after everything was over and she became an ordinary person, the longevity potions in 1947's store would be enough. That way, she could accompany Lin Jinyu for a very, very long time. Perhaps Lin Jinyu wouldn't be able to let go of the Flowing Cloud Sect then, but that didn't matter. She could go to the Flowing Cloud Sect too.
[It won't be stripped away, don't overthink it.] 1947 interrupted Wen Yuncheng's thoughts with some exasperation. The old father thought unhappily: How can you consider the template being stripped away without doubting Lin Jinyu's feelings for you? If you weren't so powerful, would Lin Jinyu still like you this much?
But 1947 didn't say it out loud. Watching Wen Yuncheng run over to Lin Jinyu and insist on stealing a few kisses in a cloyingly sweet display, it suddenly felt that if Wen Yuncheng lost her abilities, Lin Jinyu would probably protect her very well.
She might even be overprotective. At the very least, Wen Yuncheng would have absolutely no ability to go out and cause trouble.
At this thought, 1947 suddenly felt a little eager, even developing a sense of longing for such a scenario. But it was just a thought. Thinking about it for a quick laugh was enough.
It wasn't nighttime yet, and Wen Yuncheng felt that the Huanling troops would definitely be changing their position. To help the Empire reduce the number of enemies they would face in the fourth phase, and to lessen the Empire's casualties and pressure, Wen Yuncheng felt it was necessary for her to infiltrate Dragon Island multiple times to get a real-time grasp of the Huanling forces' location.
To be honest, this was a bit dangerous, because the Dragon King might keep the Huanling troops by his side for safety. But whether the Huanling side would agree to that was another question. Wen Yuncheng would have to investigate for herself. And for that... she didn't want Lin Jinyu to follow her.
Just as Wen Yuncheng was racking her brain trying to figure out how to bring this up with Lin Jinyu, Lin Jinyu brought it up herself.
"If you need to investigate, then go. Don't worry about me." Seeing Wen Yuncheng hovering around her, looking like she wanted to say something but was hesitating with a tormented expression, Lin Jinyu knew what was on her mind.
"I'm afraid you'll worry." Wen Yuncheng scratched her head, then said guiltily, "But I also know you'll worry no matter what." In truth, wanting Lin Jinyu to let her go and not worry so much was just her own subjective feeling, as if it would make her feel a little better. But Lin Jinyu would still worry.
Lin Jinyu shook her head. "I'm proud of you."
It was just that sometimes she wished she could be of more help.
Wen Yuncheng went to Dragon Island in disguise. She planned to use her swap ability with Number One, Two, or Three to return, as it was instantaneous. No matter how skilled she was at activating the shuttle, it would still take a second.
The Floating Magnetic Disk carried Wen Yuncheng as she zipped through the dragon valley. She saw many young dragons; the dragons in the central area were mostly weak and fragile. Wen Yuncheng thought that if she planted bombs here, the dragon race could truly be wiped out.
But she wouldn't do that. Wen Yuncheng sped through the area. Many of the dragons on Dragon Island had probably never left in their entire lives; they knew nothing of the outside world. It sounded rather tragic. Perhaps they had once wanted to leave, but if they left Dragon Island for the continent, they would be captured for research. Even in the Empire's eyes, every part of a dragon was a treasure.
The Dragon King was probably unwilling to accept that fate.
Wen Yuncheng sighed inwardly and swapped back just before her camouflage state ended. Then she returned again.
Over and over, she searched for the location of the Huanling troops.
Wen Yuncheng finally found them, but the Huanling troops were no longer in the dragon valley area. They were actually stationed on the outer edge of Dragon Island. Wen Yuncheng had been searching for them in the valley the whole time but couldn't find them. In the end, she only found out by overhearing some dragons chatting.
After discovering their location, she just noted the coordinates and didn't act immediately. Just as Wen Yuncheng was about to swap away, she sensed something. Turning around, she saw a figure standing on a distant mountain peak, watching her from afar. The feeling was very familiar. The Dragon King had found her and locked onto her.
But the Dragon King didn't make a move.
Wen Yuncheng didn't move either. She deactivated her camouflage and looked up to meet the Dragon King's gaze. She was essentially an ordinary person; without using her skills, the Huanling troops couldn't sense her, but the Dragon King had been locked onto her the whole time.
Then, Wen Yuncheng swapped away.
She knew that one hundred and fifty thousand experience points were in the bag.
But beyond that, she probably couldn't count on getting any more experience from the dragon race.
How strange. The Dragon King was clearly an ambitious fellow. He had sent so many Emperor, Venerate, and King-rank adult dragons to fight and die, yet he himself had never taken action. But now, the regretful Dragon King seemed like a completely different dragon.
Wen Yuncheng had speculated on what the remorseful Dragon King might do. Break with Huanling and defect to the Empire? ...Never mind.
When Wen Yuncheng returned to their residence in the Imperial Capital, she saw Lin Jinyu looking very uncomfortable. "What's wrong? Are you not feeling well?" Wen Yuncheng hurriedly took out a grandmaster-grade HP potion, but then she remembered that these potions only restored health and couldn't cure illnesses.
"No, I'm just..." Lin Jinyu hesitated for a moment, then said calmly, "I'm just trying my best to endure the Star Power being emitted by the Plane Consciousness."
"Don't be so hasty. Cultivation isn't accomplished overnight. You've said that to me before." Wen Yuncheng frowned. This was no small matter. She didn't want Lin Jinyu to be overwhelmed and burst from Star Power just because she wanted to improve quickly.
"I know my limits," Lin Jinyu said. The Heart of the Plane normally emitted an amount of Star Power energy that was within her tolerance, but Lin Jinyu wanted to raise her upper limit a little, for instance, by poking the Heart of the Plane from time to time to make it release more Star Power.
"I haven't married you yet," Wen Yuncheng muttered worriedly. "Do you want to come with me tonight to wipe out the Huanling troops? I don't plan on letting a single one escape. I'm prepared to spend a lot of points to make a big scene. You can take out a few of their generals who are above your rank."
"I'll go. Won't the Dragon King intervene?"
"He will, but the rest of the dragons won't," Wen Yuncheng said. "We still need to make it a quick battle. I'll set up the mechanical self-destruct dogs first and detonate them as we leave after I've used my skills. Tonight will be very exciting."
Because she had blown up a hundred for Lin Jinyu's birthday, Wen Yuncheng now had only a little over sixty self-destruct dogs in total, which wasn't a lot. But... what could she do? She'd have to make do.
She had to kill as many Huanling troops as possible in one go.
There were always some among the surrendered demonic beast soldiers who wouldn't behave. Wen Yuncheng planned to take a trip to the Demonic Beast Great Forest after this and then check on the other places where the demonic beast prisoners were being held. If some had submitted, there were naturally others who hadn't. The Empire had initially wanted to get information about the Huanling Continent from these beastmen soldiers, but they hadn't learned much. Most of the prisoners were just kept in custody. Wen Yuncheng planned to go and try to persuade them with reason. If they refused to be persuaded, she would turn them into experience points.
"I'll go set up the mechanical self-destruct dogs first. After I activate my skills, you tie up the Huanling generals for a while." Wen Yuncheng's target this time wasn't the generals, but to cover the Huanling army with a wide-area skill. Killing a single general, even a half-Saint, would only yield ten thousand experience points—a huge loss. After giving these instructions, Wen Yuncheng shoved a random teleportation scroll into Lin Jinyu's hand. "If I can't get back in time, use this to teleport away first. I'll come find you." She had temporarily placed a tracker on Lin Jinyu, so even if Lin Jinyu was randomly teleported, she could retrieve her Little Ice Mountain at the first opportunity.
"Don't worry." Lin Jinyu smiled and drew her Heaven-rank longsword from its sheath. "I won't let them interfere with you."
"If there's danger, teleport away immediately. Don't wait for me." Wen Yuncheng couldn't help but add one more instruction before activating her camouflage and sneaking toward the place where the Huanling troops were stationed.
She had also suspected this might be a decoy, a trap set by the Dragon King and the Huanling generals. But she later discovered that these were genuine Huanling troops. Even if it was a trap...
It couldn't stop her.
