SDIWD - Chapter 28
Chapter 28
Her campaign was over before it even began. Although Hua Mu wasn't dead, she was pretty much done for. The injuries on her palms and soles felt a little better after Bai Zhen's treatment, but her back and legs were still sore.
What made her feel even more desperate was that there wasn't even a pile of hay to sleep on at night. Bai Zhen gave her jacket and pants to use, but it still didn't make Hua Mu feel the slightest bit comfortable—it was no comparison to a human cushion at all!
It wasn't that Bai Zhen hadn't thought about letting Hua Mu sleep on top of her, as they had the past few days. But Hua Mu's earlier reaction made her think she had overstepped her bounds, so she had to bury the thought deep in her heart, not even daring to mention massaging Hua Mu's legs again.
Hua Mu couldn't lie still any longer. She sat up and poked the Sentinel guarding beside her with the tip of her foot.
"Miss, what are your orders?"
Hua Mu was furious. Bai Zhen had clearly said she would give her a massage before carrying her back, but then she didn't mention it again. She didn't keep her word!
"My legs hurt."
Bai Zhen was at a loss. Observing Hua Mu's expression, she asked cautiously, "S-should I give you a massage?"
Weren't you the one who said you'd massage them for me!
"Mmm…"
Bai Zhen couldn't help but reveal a joyful smile.
Hua Mu's willingness to let her get close was the greatest sign of trust. After all, it was an unwritten rule of the Grand Duke's residence, and even the entire royal family, that Sentinels could not get too close to the Young Lady.
In the past, she had always cautiously abided by this rule. It was only after coming to this island that, due to various external conditions, she couldn't strictly enforce it.
Of course, being far from civilized society, her guard had indeed been lowered far too much.
"Then, Miss, please bear with it. If it's too painful, just tell me."
"Mmm…"
Please stop with the nonsense and get on with it!
Hua Mu proactively placed her leg in front of Bai Zhen.
The Young Lady's calves were straight and slender. Although they had tanned a bit from the past few days of island life, they were still in stark contrast to Bai Zhen's wheat-colored skin. For some reason, Bai Zhen suddenly felt a little thirsty, and her hands had already pressed down involuntarily.
"Mmm-hmm…" The Sentinel's palms were dry and warm, the pressure just right. It was so comfortable that Hua Mu couldn't help but hum.
She felt that Bai Zhen's skills were not much worse than her private masseuse's.
Bai Zhen was extremely patient and uncomplaining. As long as Hua Mu didn't tell her to stop, she massaged her again and again. Calves, arms, shoulders, and back—she massaged Hua Mu until her whole body was warm.
But the Young Lady still wasn't quite satisfied—her back was still sore.
"The sand is so uncomfortable."
Compared to the rainforest, the beach was safer at night. Bai Zhen had moved a few dead logs to enclose an area at the junction of the beach and the grassy slope, then dug the sand deeper in the middle to build a fire, creating a warm resting place that could block the wind.
The only slightly uncomfortable part was that they couldn't use hay for bedding in this situation, as it could easily start a fire.
Hua Mu had always been picky about her sleeping conditions. Bai Zhen felt she should proactively offer to be her cushion, but for some reason, she found it hard to say.
She was afraid of being called a pervert by the Young Lady again.
Bai Zhen massaged Hua Mu's arm and said in a low voice, "How about I find some banana leaves for you to lie on?"
What good are banana leaves!
How could this Sentinel have no sense of self-sacrifice at all? And she called herself the most loyal guard.
Hua Mu didn't care anymore. "No, that's not comfortable either… You, you be my cushion, just like the last two days."
Bai Zhen's heart leaped with joy. "Is that okay?"
Hua Mu felt something was strange, but for a moment, she couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong.
"What do you mean, 'is that okay?' Isn't that your duty? This Young Lady is tired and uncomfortable right now."
Afraid that Bai Zhen would refuse, she unconsciously put on her "Young Lady" airs.
"Yes, yes, of course!"
Of course Bai Zhen wouldn't refuse. It was her honor to be the Young Lady's cushion!
Hearing her agree so readily, Hua Mu scrambled onto her as if afraid she would go back on her word.
"My back is so sore. You massage it for me too."
Before, with the hay for padding, Hua Mu had only put half her weight on her. Today, there was nothing, so she just sprawled on top without a care.
The height difference between the two was not small, and their physiques were even more vastly different.
In order to maintain royal decorum even in front of the camera, Hua Mu's figure had to be slimmer than standard. At a height of 163 cm, she weighed less than forty kilograms. Coupled with the fair skin cultivated from a life of luxury, she looked just like a frail little lamb.
As for Bai Zhen, with a height of 180 cm, a well-trained body, lean and powerful taut muscles, and wheat-colored skin from year-round sun exposure, she looked like a black panther, constantly on alert.
Forget sleeping together in such an ambiguous position, just the incongruity of them standing together would be enough for the tabloids to report on for three days and three nights.
Lying on top of Bai Zhen, Hua Mu was incredibly comfortable. Not only was she soft and warm, but she also provided automatic massages, no worse than her latex mattress. She decided that not just for tonight, but until they went back, she would make this Sentinel be her cushion!
Exhausted from the day, Hua Mu finally fell asleep in contentment, but Bai Zhen found it somewhat difficult to fall asleep.
While the need to stay vigilant was one reason, she knew there was another reason preventing her from sleeping immediately.
Bai Zhen came from the Black-Eyed Clan and had lived with her people in a remote tropical rainforest since childhood. It was only because she awakened as a Sentinel that she entered civilized society for the first time.
The outside world was vaster than she had imagined, but also colder. The dazzling modern technology, the glittering city life, and the strict hierarchical military system all made her feel suffocated.
She was a minority, no matter where she was. A member of the rare Black-Eyed Clan, the only Sentinel in the Black-Eyed Clan, and a rare female among Sentinels.
The curiosity and exclusion, ridicule and teasing from others were like a nightmare for the young and naive Bai Zhen. She felt that she didn't fit in with anything, and no matter where she was, she couldn't find a sense of belonging.
As a child, Bai Zhen had run away from the Tower several times. The longest time, she wandered outside for nearly a month. But even after running away, she didn't know where to go. A young Sentinel like her, lacking a Guide and Little White Pills, couldn't last long on her own.
It was at that time that she met the person who would change the course of her life.
Bai Zhen had never thought she would be so close to her, nor had she ever thought that she could be trusted and relied upon so much.
The Sentinel shamefully felt a bit of secret joy, delighting in the fact that the two of them were sharing such an experience.
If it weren't for this situation, she and the Young Lady would never have been so intimate, nor would they have been able to talk so much and do so many things together.
She knew full well what a predicament being stranded on the island was for the Young Lady, yet she couldn't help but rejoice secretly.
She must be the most unqualified guard, not only failing the trust of the Queen and the Grand Duke, but also betraying the oath she had sworn.
"Miss, I'm sorry."
Hua Mu had a wonderful dream. In the dream, she was having afternoon tea with Catherine and Manman. Although it wasn't lavender tea for beauty and skincare, the linden tea that could relieve muscle soreness was exactly what she needed right now.
The raspberry sour cream cake was refreshing and delicious, the cranberry cookies were crisp and sweet, and paired with a little fruit salad, it was truly a perfect afternoon tea.
While eating, she boasted to her two best friends about her experiences on the deserted island, telling them how she cleverly obtained fresh water and salt from the sea, how she dealt with the behemoth-like coconut crabs, and how she built a bamboo raft.
She had actually brought the bamboo raft back and placed it in the small lake outside her private villa, occasionally using it for fishing.
Catherine and Manman were full of admiration and envy for her, and then they asked about her Sentinel.
Something must have happened, right?
A lone Sentinel and a lone Guide on a deserted island—it would be too unreasonable if nothing happened.
The afternoon tea topic of noble young ladies was unexpectedly pure yet risqué, fantasizing about realms unknown to them, longing for an unforgettable… uh…
Hua Mu saw the Sentinel, wearing only a sports bra, poling a raft towards them. Her perfect body caused the two noble ladies beside her, also Guides, to cry out in surprise, casting envious glances at her.
She watched Bai Zhen flash a brilliant smile at her, her mind filled with only one word: "indecent." Please hide a body like that properly, will you!!!
In a fit of anger, Hua Mu woke up!
The Sentinel was pressed beneath her, her heartbeat steady and calm. She was probably asleep. Hua Mu was afraid of waking her, so she didn't dare to move, cursing herself for having such a ridiculous dream.
The morning air was a bit chilly, but there was still residual warmth from the fire in the sand pit, and Hua Mu was wrapped up tightly by Bai Zhen, so she didn't feel too cold.
It was strangely comfortable, snuggling like this.
Hua Mu adjusted her position, and Bai Zhen's body shifted along with her. She secretly raised her eyes to look at the Sentinel's face and saw a rare expression of relaxation and exhaustion. Her heart ached a little—Bai Zhen was truly tired.
Hua Mu sighed silently, repeatedly pondering the meaning of the dream she'd had.
Was it a prophetic dream? Did it mean someone would come to rescue them soon?
No way. Wouldn't Catherine and Manman see Bai Zhen's body then?
Young ladies of their background basically had no right to choose their own partners; their families would help select a spouse of equal social standing. Perhaps out of a rebellious spirit, these two best friends of hers particularly yearned for a sincere romance that crossed class boundaries.
Of course, if you added elements of master-servant, a female Sentinel, and some erotica, it would definitely become popular in the circle of noble young ladies—she was referring to romance novels.
Perhaps because rarity makes things precious, coupled with the slightly taboo feeling of being with another woman, the Guide ladies around her had, at some point, suddenly developed a strong curiosity and longing for female Sentinels, forcing her to hide Bai Zhen away carefully.
"Miss, are you awake?"
Bai Zhen had actually noticed Hua Mu stirring long ago, but she thought she would sleep a little longer, so she hadn't made a sound to disturb her.
Hua Mu didn't want to answer her. Even though she was awake, she wanted to lie there a little longer.
Had her friends gone crazy? What was so great about such a foolish, clumsy, and clueless Sentinel?
Oh, except for being a pretty good human cushion—but that's all she was, nothing more than a human cushion!
