MORIC - Chapter 25

Chapter 25: Heart Racing

Xi Zhoumeng vaguely brushed off Duan Daizhen's questions. Just then, a pop quiz was announced for the class, much to the displeasure of all the students.

The few Omegas like them who were studying mecha theory were mixed in with the Alphas and Betas, sitting in the back row, perfectly embodying the phrase "fishing in troubled waters."

Duan Daizhen was once again watching a popular romance story on the StarNet about a domineering Alpha CEO and a delicate Omega. The senior next to Xi Zhoumeng, who was retaking the class after failing, was sweetly communicating with her fiancé.

Xi Zhoumeng was dead tired, propping up her face as she drowsed off.

In the front row, Wen Xinghuo was sketching a component part when Xi Shuang, sitting beside her, asked, "How far have you gotten with that first-year?"

Xi Shuang had naturally slender eyes, and when she winked and nudged, she looked even more frivolous.

Wen Xinghuo didn't understand and asked in confusion, "What first-year?"

Xi Shuang bumped her shoulder. "You know, the one... with the glasses. Named Chi... Chi something..."

Wen Xinghuo: "Chi Yueshan?"

Xi Shuang's smile grew even more suggestive. "What's going on with you two?"

"Hey, Wen Xinghuo, I think you're quite something. You reject her so thoroughly with your words, but haven't you already given her a bag?"

Wen Xinghuo: "What?"

Xi Shuang thought she was playing dumb. "Oh, come on. I saw that first-year has a pretty good figure. That dress yesterday was really nice."

Wen Xinghuo: "I gave who a bag?"

How could she not know about this?

The teacher was still reading from the PPT on the light-screen, which displayed diagrams of many precise mecha instruments. For this group of mecha pilots, it wasn't exactly basic material.

Most of those who performed mecha maintenance were Betas with A+ spiritual power and Omegas with A+ spiritual power.

These students were screened upon admission. Betas were much more docile compared to Alphas and Omegas and didn't like to stand out. As a result, the atmosphere in the Beta academy was actually the best.

There wasn't a separate mecha theory class just for Omegas. The academy knew this group of Omegas was just slacking off, or they were forced by their parents to attend.

Generally, Omegas who studied mecha theory definitely had Alphas in their families who had been on the battlefield.

Wen Xinghuo put down her pen and asked again, "You're saying I gave Chi Yueshan a bag?"

Xi Shuang nodded. "Didn't you? I ran into her this morning, and she was carrying the one you asked me to buy for you before."

Xi Shuang's family had more than just a little money. Although they weren't nobles, their businesses spanned almost the entire galaxy.

If their daughter hadn't been an Alpha with high spiritual power, her family wouldn't have wanted her to come to Guyun Academy, hoping instead that she would attend a political, legal, or business school.

Xi Shuang: "Isn't it the one you asked me to have my family buy from Planet Kiel X last month?"

She had an expression that said, "You're definitely lying to me."

Wen Xinghuo frowned, finally dredging up the memory of this incident.

She had no interest in such things and no money to buy them. The only reason she had asked Xi Shuang was because of Xi Zhoumeng's request.

Xi Zhoumeng was a drama queen. It wasn't that she lacked the channels or the money; occasionally, on a whim, she wanted to experience the thrill of saving money.

So she had Wen Xinghuo ask Xi Shuang to buy it. The young mistress of the business personally procured the bag at a seventy percent discount. Xi Zhoumeng was incredibly satisfied with the low price.

She even told Wen Xinghuo not to tell Xi Shuang that she was the one buying it.

After all, she had the image of a noble lady to maintain.

Wen Xinghuo couldn't understand Xi Zhoumeng's thought process at all, but she was on good terms with Xi Shuang, and it wasn't a big deal.

At most, she would have to endure some of Xi Shuang's teasing winks and nudges.

Wen Xinghuo hesitated for a long time, wanting to speak but stopping herself. Xi Shuang felt like she was putting an honest person on the spot.

"Forget it. It's fine if you don't want people to know. But since you and Zhoumeng are together, you shouldn't be fooling around."

Xi Shuang and Wen Xinghuo were sitting in the first row on the right side. The classroom was large, and people were seated sparsely. Most of the Alphas were scribbling furiously for the quiz.

For a moment, Wen Xinghuo didn't know what to say.

"It's not what you think."

That was all she could manage to say in the end.

Xi Shuang said while highlighting key points, "I think that first-year is really quite interesting."

Not sure what she was thinking, she glanced back furtively. "Then what about Xi Zhoumeng?"

Xi Shuang's expression suddenly became hard to describe. "Xinghuo, you're not cheating, are you?"

The accusations she was leveling were getting bigger and bigger. Wen Xinghuo's mouth twitched, and the scar on her face made her expression look even more ferocious. The teacher on the podium caught a glimpse and, heart pounding with fear, quickly turned the page.

Thud.

Many people looked up toward the source of the sound. Xi Shuang had been slammed face-down onto the desk by Wen Xinghuo, who had grabbed the back of her head. She almost went into convulsions.

"Get a grip."

Wen Xinghuo still had one hand free to write down key points. "I won't cheat."

Xi Shuang, her voice as faint as a thread, begged for mercy, "Okay, okay, I get it! Let me go!"

The Betas across the aisle were laughing.

In the back row, Xi Zhoumeng was also startled awake by the noise, thinking class was over.

Duan Daizhen let out a sound of surprise. "Isn't that Wen Xinghuo and Xi Shuang?"

Xi Zhoumeng didn't even lift her eyelids. "What's wrong?"

Her voice was laced with sleepiness, lacking its usual crisp clarity but carrying a hint of sexiness. The Betas in the row ahead of them blushed.

There were many in the academy who liked Xi Zhoumeng. Although the Beta division didn't often see this dream Omega of the masses, they had more or less heard of her.

Their only point of intersection was this mecha theory class.

Although it was a theory class, there was still a practical component in the final exam, but it didn't account for many points.

Last year, Xi Zhoumeng had also barely passed. Everyone felt that making such a beautiful Omega inspect mechas was a terrible waste of a natural treasure.

Duan Daizhen: "I don't know. Xi Shuang probably annoyed Wen Xinghuo with her big mouth."

Xi Shuang was also famous in the academy. There were only fifteen spots in total for the Alpha Day Class each year, which meant these individuals had absolute suppressive power in terms of spiritual power.

The star Alphas of the second year were Xi Shuang and Wen Xinghuo.

Initially, Xi Shuang had been the more high-profile one.

She was a complete foil to Wen Xinghuo, from appearance to personality. Often, people who liked Xi Shuang would end up being recommended Wen Xinghuo instead.

Xi Zhoumeng had no interest. Just then, the teacher handed out the quiz papers, telling them to turn them in before the end of class.

Duan Daizhen turned off her light-brain, quite seriously following the rules.

She just filled it in randomly, not wanting to even glance at the questions.

"If I get a zero on this, my mom's going to scold me again when I get home."

She propped up her face. Xi Zhoumeng glanced at the test paper, then scanned the Omegas from this year taking the mecha theory class, and asked Duan Daizhen, "Do you have a list of the first-years taking this course?"

Duan Daizhen nodded. "I do. I'll send it to you in a bit."

She then asked, "What's up? Is there a first-year Omega you like and want to recruit into the council?"

Their council recruited new members every year, but they considered many comprehensive factors.

Family background was the top priority.

Xi Zhoumeng shook her head. "Just asking."

She thought of Chi Yueshan, who had flipped through her mecha theory textbook last night while she was showering. The other girl had been engrossed, her face filled with seriousness. It wasn't mere curiosity; one look was enough to tell that she knew a thing or two.

Duan Daizhen said, "Oh. We can step down next year, right? My mother has already screened high-quality Alphas with a seventy percent compatibility rate for me and is urging me to go on blind dates."

This was the predetermined journey for most Omegas. The education they received from a young age was like this, so there was nothing really to resist.

After all, most people lived just to pass the time.

Xi Zhoumeng: "Pick one you like and start dating first."

She spoke in a low voice while writing on her paper, the carbon pen leaving marks on the page.

This world still maintained a paper-based civilization, yet Xi Zhoumeng felt a strong sense of disconnect.

Duan Daizhen: "We'll see. Don't we have the drama elective this afternoon? I haven't been in a long time. This semester is passing pretty quickly; the class ends in another week."

Their credits were more than enough. The activities frequently organized by the council already helped with that. Omegas also needed a perfect report card, which included social activities.

Not to mention the various galactic competitions available for Omegas.

In comparison, electives weren't that important. A single performance from them was enough for the drama teacher to give them a high score, so it didn't matter whether they attended the regular classes.

Xi Zhoumeng nodded. She still looked very sleepy, but she answered the questions quickly.

It was as if these questions, which were somewhat difficult even for Alphas, were very simple for her.

Duan Daizhen wasn't surprised. After all, some people could fill out the entire paper and still only get half the points.

After all, they didn't have to pilot mechas, let alone engage in interstellar combat.

This kind of course was merely icing on the cake for their matchmaking profiles.

Xi Zhoumeng had hardly ever attended the drama class. Her management of her own credits was flawless.

In areas where a high score wasn't needed, she didn't get one. In areas where it was required, she could get a perfect score.

The system called this behavior the arrogance of a genius.

Xi Zhoumeng felt it was as common as eating and sleeping.

She spent most of her time wasting it away; she wasn't the protagonist, anyway. Even though the annoying system kept the main storyline progress bar pinned in her mind, it couldn't stop her from slacking off.

In the afternoon, Xi Zhoumeng and Duan Daizhen went to the drama elective classroom.

Because it was a mixed-grade class, there were students from the first, second, and third years, though relatively fewer from the third year, as many had gone for practical training.

"Is it group rehearsal today?"

As soon as Duan Daizhen entered, she saw many people gathered together.

The teacher was operating a light-screen, apparently letting the students choose scripts.

Chi Yueshan was sitting with Xuan Ping. Compared to the other Omegas who seemed close to one another, the two of them formed their own circle.

However, they weren't an exception, because in the southeast corner there were three others: a female Beta and two Omegas. They were from the royal family.

Alphas never usually appeared in elective classes, but Betas were quite common.

Duan Daizhen spotted Chi Yueshan at a glance and said to Xi Zhoumeng, "Hey, your love rival."

Xi Zhoumeng didn't even lift her eyelids. Beneath her school robe, she wore a black-purple cashmere dress, its hem flaring out like a lotus leaf, enveloping her curvaceous body.

The long, red tassels of her earrings, which dangled to her shoulders, swayed with her movements, drawing the gazes of many.

Xuan Ping: "Senior Xi actually came."

Chi Yueshan had long known that Xi Zhoumeng was also in the drama elective, but after all this time, she had never even seen a shadow of her. She had assumed the other girl was just a name on the roster.

She hadn't expected her to show up with the air of a young lady on an inspection tour.

Chi Yueshan should have been resentful toward Xi Zhoumeng, but as it happened, she had only just left the other's room that morning.

The moment Xi Zhoumeng walked in, she felt as if she could smell that bitter, biting scent of morning mist. It was as if her lungs were freezing solid, yet there was also a madness that wanted to shatter the ice.

Chi Yueshan turned her face away, trying to banish the lingering sensation of the other's fingers from her mind. "I see her. What is she doing here?"

The drama elective classroom was in the school's small theater. The doors were taller, making the backlit figure look like a celestial being.

The stage lights above were bright. Perhaps it was the contrast between the sparse and dense crowds, or perhaps it was the nature of their compatibility rate.

Xi Zhoumeng looked up and saw Chi Yueshan.

【System: Your heart rate has increased.】

【Xi Zhoumeng: My heart always races when I see a beautiful woman.】

Chi Yueshan had her back to her, her hair still a mess.

But Xi Zhoumeng felt as if she could strip off her clothes and see her inner self.

The suppressor patch is mine.

The suppressant is mine.

But the person is not mine.

Xi Zhoumeng tilted her head, looking toward the corner that interested her more.

The petite little princess sat with her royal relatives, like a delicate dodder flower, still unable to get used to such occasions.

No matter how you looked at her, she didn't seem like Wen Xinghuo's type.

What independent and strong woman? That was complete nonsense.

Xuan Ping: "Senior Xi isn't looking at you. She's looking at..."

Chi Yueshan whipped her head around and saw Xi Zhoumeng walking toward the southeast corner.

The people around them were all whispering—

"I heard Senior Wen walked the little princess from the royal family back to her dorm yesterday. The size difference is great!"

"Another love rival!! Fight, fight!"

"Wuwuwu, they're completely different types. I still like Senior Xi!"

"But that's a princess! She might even be the next queen. I don't think she can be beaten..."

Chi Yueshan was furious. How could her title of "love rival" be gone overnight?

That bastard Xi Zhoumeng! She doesn't even see me!
