MORIC - Chapter 2

Chapter 2: That Coquettish Love Rival is So Annoying

Chi Yueshan's tough talk had fallen completely flat, and she was left with the disgusting feeling of having been teased by her love rival.

She stepped off the stage resentfully, still able to hear the students' chatter.

"As expected of my goddess, so beautiful. I'm so jealous of that Omega, getting her lips touched by such a beauty."

"If it were me, I wouldn't eat or drink for the rest of the day. The bliss of such a kiss~ ah~"

"Who's that Omega? I feel like I've seen her somewhere."

"Haven't you seen the forums? She's the special admission student who sexually harassed Senior Wen Xinghuo."

...

As Chi Yueshan descended the steps, she didn't forget to glare at the few who had called her ugly.

Ugly, my ass. I just didn't bother to dress up.

This lady is busy, unlike you pampered Omegas who do nothing but shop all day.

Sigh, I wish I could go on a shopping spree too, but I'm broke.

Feeling dejected, she started walking toward Area D, only to see a female Alpha approaching her.

The Pearl Auditorium wasn't a particularly large building at Guyun Academy; it was generally used for student dances or administrative events.

As such, there was no dedicated backstage exit.

Wen Xinghuo had just heard her name from backstage and used her light-brain to watch the on-stage feed.

Just as she came out, she saw a female Omega with fluffy hair walking toward her.

The moment the other girl saw her, she looked like she was on stimulants, trotting over to greet her ecstatically—

"Hello, Senior!"

"I sincerely wish all new students a wonderful three years at Guyun Academy, a magnificent practical training experience, and a smooth graduation."

"Of course, this is also your…"

Xi Zhoumeng's voice was like a siren's call, the kind that would make even a dog's eyes pop with hearts.

The sound of her love rival's speech in the background couldn't suppress Chi Yueshan's elation; her eyes looked like they were about to shoot flames.

Yet, she was also shy in front of the person she liked. Her gaze uncontrollably roamed from the scar on Wen Xinghuo's forehead all the way down to her abdomen, which was enough to make the usually expressionless Wen Xinghuo feel a bit awkward.

"Senior, do you remember me?"

Chi Yueshan tried to pitch her naturally un-cutesy voice higher, hoping that looking up at Wen Xinghuo from a forty-five-degree angle would make her appear pitiful and endearing.

Unfortunately, her current appearance had nothing to do with "cutesy" and was more like that of a tomboy.

Beneath her robe, she wore pants custom-made for transferring into the mecha theory major, making her look like a beggar at first glance. A few of her pockets were stuffed with theory exam papers, which jutted out and stretched her brand-new school robe into a comical shape.

Wen Xinghuo grunted in acknowledgment.

It was hard to forget such a fiery gaze, like that of an enthusiastic gym-goer trying to sell you a membership.

"Senior, can I add your light—"

"Next, please welcome my dearest friend, Wen Xinghuo…"

Chi Yueshan's words were brutally cut off by that drama queen Omega on stage. Wen Xinghuo apologized to her and left.

The second-year female Alpha was nearly 1.9 meters tall and had a large build. Beneath her Guyun Academy robe was a fashionable three-piece suit. Her shoulders weren't as broad as a male Alpha's, yet she exuded a powerful sense of security, a completely different flavor from Xi Zhoumeng's slim waist and long legs.

Such a strong Alpha vibe!

Chi Yueshan was practically drooling.

It was a shame everyone at school wore pheromone patches; otherwise, she would have loved to get a whiff of this person's pheromones to satisfy her craving.

Someone on the forums said they smelled like gunpowder—that was just too cool.

Born to be a great general.

With an infatuated expression, Chi Yueshan was still giggling foolishly as she returned to her seat.

Xuan Ping watched her, completely unfazed by the others' ridicule, and secretly admired Chi Yueshan's mental fortitude.

Guyun Academy had been established for a century, and it had been fifty years since it began recruiting from the Lower World. In all that time, not a single student from the Lower World had ever entered the Council.

They either ended up serving the nobility or obtained permanent residency in the Upper World and never spoke of their past again.

Xuan Ping's own dream was simply to stay in the Upper World; it would be even better if she could bring her parents over.

But this Omega was an orphan. She'd heard Chi Yueshan had relied on part-time jobs to scrape together her tuition fees. She probably had no ties to hold her back, right?

While Wen Xinghuo was speaking, Chi Yueshan not only had her light-brain recording the audio but was also taking notes. Xuan Ping even saw her take several pictures of the LED screen.

There were plenty of enthusiastic Omegas at Guyun Academy, but that didn't apply to the special admission students. Every year, the special admission students tried their best to keep a low profile, terrified of offending their classmates and being expelled.

"Yueshan, just because Senior Wen saved you, you're…"

This in love?

Xuan Ping really wanted to remind her not to be a dreamer. Even if Wen Xinghuo wasn't of high status among Alphas, she was at least from a minor noble family. People like them could never hope to reach that high.

The female Alpha on stage was tall and sturdy, not conforming to the mainstream aesthetic for female Alphas.

But Wen Xinghuo's spiritual power was S+, and in a nation that relied on piloting mecha for war, Alphas with strong spiritual power held absolute authority.

Therefore, quite a few Omegas were fond of Wen Xinghuo.

Guyun Academy also had an Omega Council. It sounded very impressive, but to put it simply, it was an organization that arranged large-scale events with a matchmaking-like nature.

They would further grade Alphas based on appearance, family background, spiritual power, and physical strength, providing a list of candidates for Omegas who planned to marry right after graduation.

The current president happened to be Xi Zhoumeng.

When Wen Xinghuo first enrolled, she was unknown, and her humble origins were no secret.

She was the illegitimate daughter of the Wen family head, who had been left to fend for herself in the Lower World.

This Alpha with extremely high spiritual power had been plain-looking before she presented. Even after being brought back to the family at age ten, she was never treated well and was constantly ridiculed.

Now, she had made a complete comeback.

Wen Xinghuo's voice was rather neutral, sounding like that of an honest, simple person. She finished her dry speech and stepped down.

In Xuan Ping's eyes, even with S+ spiritual power, she had no charisma.

She was too intimidating. A serrated red headband was wrapped around her forehead, with half of her bangs hanging down; she didn't look very respectable at all.

Her smile made her look like she had the blood of several people on her hands, which ran completely counter to the elegant and reserved Alpha style favored by the planet.

She gave a complicated look at the excitedly-scrolling-through-photos Chi Yueshan.

Her taste is a bit intense, she thought.

At the end of the ceremony, the host announced that there would be a unified spiritual power test for all students next Friday.

They were to line up according to their secondary gender at the Pianyao Luo Plaza.

As they were leaving, Xuan Ping still walked with Chi Yueshan.

But today, Chi Yueshan had been too flamboyant and had even talked back to an Alpha. Xuan Ping could feel the faint, mocking whispers as they walked.

The person in question was completely unfazed and was chatting with Xuan Ping.

Chi Yueshan: "What have you been up to this week?"

During the first week of school, the first-years didn't have official classes yet, though the second and third-years had already started.

For Omegas, it didn't really matter whether they attended or not, since their daily lives revolved around romance and gathering information on Alphas.

They would get together to gossip about who was caught having sex without being marked, or who got engaged but then cheated and was caught red-handed by an electronic dog.

Xuan Ping and Chi Yueshan had met on registration day and added each other on their light-brains.

She was timid and had barely left her dorm, except to time her calls to her parents with the power outage schedule in the Lower World.

"Just around the academy."

Xuan Ping's voice was so soft that Chi Yueshan had to lean in close to hear her. They had just walked out of the auditorium's main entrance when Chi Yueshan was about to speak, but she was suddenly shoved hard, and the books she was carrying scattered on the ground.

The sky outside had already turned completely dark, and the young masters and mistresses were all heading toward the dining hall.

Some were in groups of three or five, while others rode in the school's hovercars.

"You bumped into me."

Chi Yueshan reached out and grabbed the robe of the person in front of her.

Xuan Ping glanced at the embroidery on the other person's robe—a first-year Alpha with the surname Ou.

Her face paled, and she instinctively bent down to pick up the books, afraid that Chi Yueshan would cause more trouble. "Let's go eat," she urged.

Chi Yueshan didn't let go. "I said, you bumped into me."

The new students were mostly between 18 and 19 years old. The Alpha before her had a head of red hair, a face full of acne, and a face as wide as a toilet seat cover.

Chi Yueshan was so repulsed by his ugliness that she took two steps back.

The other party, however, thought Chi Yueshan had retreated out of fear.

"So what if I bumped into you? What are you gonna do about it?"

The male Alpha was surrounded by other Alphas, both male and female.

Limited by the innate physical constitution of an Omega, Chi Yueshan was only a little over 1.6 meters tall and always had to look up at people.

With her face mostly hidden, compared to the fashionable Omegas of the day, she looked almost unpresentable.

"If you bumped into me, you should obviously help me pick up my books."

Her voice was no longer as delicate as it had been in front of Wen Xinghuo; now, it sounded a bit aggressive.

But her voice was naturally high-pitched, so it inevitably lacked any real threat.

Another burst of laughter erupted.

Chi Yueshan pulled Xuan Ping to her feet and calmly looked at the ugly mugs before her, thinking, Compared to Wen Xinghuo, these Alphas are worlds apart. What a bunch of freaks.

"What's so funny?"

Chi Yueshan turned her head. "Does the academy have a rule against Alphas bullying Omegas without reason?"

Xuan Ping looked like a good girl; Chi Yueshan knew she must have spent the week memorizing the school's rules and regulations.

Xuan Ping didn't even dare to look up, purely out of fear.

Even though everyone wore pheromone patches, an Alpha's natural aura of dominance still had some intimidating power.

Her voice trembled like a bullied lamb's. "Y-Yes, there is."

The gang across from them laughed so hard they were about to get stitches. The pig-like Alpha who had bumped into her said, "Bullying is a very serious word, classmate. I just bumped into you by accident. Does that count as bullying?"

Chi Yueshan lifted her eyelids and asked again, "Is there a rule that prohibits Omegas from bullying Alphas?"

Xuan Ping let out a small "ah" and shook her head subconsciously.

Chi Yueshan let out a laugh and lifted her chin. "What class are you in?"

The beanpole Alpha next to the pig-like one said sarcastically, "What, you want to tattle to a teacher? We're from the Star—"

Chi Yueshan cut in, "Any Alpha who can't get into the Day Class is trash."

As she said this, she charged forward.

She was terrifyingly fast. Xuan Ping was so shocked her jaw dropped as the Alpha who'd bumped her went flying.

He was already fat and looked clumsy, so he didn't roll very far after being hit.

He rolled to a stop right in front of a luxury car, on the hood of which sat a sheep.

In this day and age, live dogs were a rare sight. The planet's civilization had been extinguished and reignited by the flames of war, incorporating many foreign elements.

Some cute creatures had gone extinct after the planet's reconstruction and could only be seen in their former liveliness through documentaries.

But people could never resist fluffy things. With no dogs, there were electronic dogs.

Xi Zhoumeng had no particular fondness for dogs. While it was a pity the species was extinct, weren't there still sheep?

Her car was incredibly ornate, and the sheep on it even had a very fashionable ear-loop dye job.

The window of Xi Zhoumeng's hovercar was hung with a beaded curtain, and the crisp sound of its chimes, accompanied by her melodramatic "Aiya!", drew more attention than the fallen Alpha.

The beauty inside sighed. "You scared my baby."

Chi Yueshan's mouth twitched. She'd misheard it as "You scared baby me."

And what's this new creature? she thought.

The Alpha got up, grimacing, and he and his group all looked toward Xi Zhoumeng, calling out "Senior" with fear and trepidation.

Only Chi Yueshan didn't speak. She bent down, picked up her books, and prepared to leave without even glancing at Xi Zhoumeng.

Even an Omega like Xuan Ping found it hard to resist Xi Zhoumeng's beauty.

After all, she looked like a goddess from a legend. Even in a school robe, from her grooming to her features, not a single flaw could be found.

"Stop."

Xi Zhoumeng spoke.

Even a single word has to be said so coquettishly? Chi Yueshan thought.

Utterly disrespectful, she glanced at the Omega in the car. "What is it?"

Xi Zhoumeng thought to herself with an "oho": A bit of an attitude, aren't we?
